Lowering the voting age - Standpoint image 3

If people of all ages can be influenced by misinformation, we can ask if there should be an age limit for voting.

Lowering the voting age could help more people vote and be interested in politics. If younger people can vote, they may feel like their opinion matters and want to learn more about how the country is run.

The UK government has said that the voting age might be lowered to 16 for the next general election, which could happen by 2029. This would make England and Northern Ireland the same as Scotland and Wales. Right now the voting age for UK parliamentary elections is 18.

Some people think younger people can be influenced more easily by misinformation, especially online. But adults can also believe misinformation and wrong news.

Because of this, age does not always mean someone will make better decisions. What matters more is if people understand the information and think carefully before voting.

In conclusion, there may still be an age limit for voting, but it is important that everyone learns about elections and how to understand information, because misinformation can affect people of any age.
