Would giving 16-year-olds the vote improve democracy or just change the way campaigns are run?
In my opinion, allowing 16- and 17-year-olds to vote would help improve elections because the government could hear everyone’s point of view. Schools also teach young people about elections, so they would understand more about how the government works.
Another reason is that young people are affected by the decisions the government makes. For example, decisions about education, the environment and the economy will affect them in the future.
Although some 16- and 17-year-olds might not take voting seriously and could vote for someone as a joke, this can also happen with older voters. This means that age does not always matter, and it often depends on the person who is voting.
If young people are given the chance to vote earlier, they may also become more interested in politics and learn more about how their country is run.
In conclusion, I think 16- and 17-year-olds should be allowed to vote because it would give young people a voice and help them become more involved in democracy.
