Would giving 16 year olds the right to vote improve democracy or just change the way campaigns are run?
Just giving 16 and 17 year olds the ability to vote would improve democracy since the youth are always thinking about how it will affect them in the future and consider how they wish to grow up. This is shown by the polls on the Green Party where it is becoming increasingly popular among the younger generation (18-24) due to their policies on low-cost education and their care about the planet which most children wish to preserve contrary to most adults who know it won't affect them. Campaigns may be changed but the facts remain the same. Teens will not vote for someone because they are told to. Teens will not vote someone who doesn't align with what they want for their future. And teens should certainly not be refused the choice on their future. It will undeniably lead to an economically and environmentally sustainable future unlike the current cost-of-living crisis where we will hardly be able to rent a home (the bare minimum). No campaign on tik-tok, instagram or Snapchat that follow trends will lead to those, who should be considered responsible with the level of independence already given to them, making wrong decisions about their future. They are seen as an impressionable age group so why don't schools teach children to navigate themselves in the torrent you know as the political world. These so-called “convincing" campaigns won't permeat a child armed against propaganda. How can someone be expected to be improve when they aren't given the support, better yet the chance?
