Do international alliances always make the world safer, or can they sometimes lead to more tension?

International alliances could do both. They could make the world safer but they cpuld also caused more tensions between countries. However, in my opinion, most alliances, especially military alliances caused more tensions between countries. I'm not saying this as my opinion, but also a proof from past incidents which had happened beacuse from international alliances.

First, international alliances could put pressure into countries which could caused more tensions. Countries that feel that the international alliances are threatening their interest could feel pressure from the international alliances. The proof is the creation of NATO increased tensions between the Western Europe NATO members and the Eastern Europe communist blog during the Cold War. This showed that altough NATO was at first created to protect its members from communist influence, it instead caused more tensions between both sides.

Second, international alliances didn't stop tensions between countries. Altough two countries are in the same alliance, the alliance didn't stop the tensions between them. Turkey and Greece showed this. Altough they were both a NATO members, they still have tensions with each other. This is caused by them joining NATO just for their own interest, not to stop the tensions between them.

Lastly, an international alliance could compete with another international alliance as well. They could compete in either military, economic, or politic dominance. BRICS is a real example of this. BRICS was created by Brazil, Russia, Iran, China, and South Africa. BRICS is an economic alliance made to increase the economic-political relationship between its members and to balance Western Europe and US Dolar dominance. While competing for dominance, this could cause tensions between the members of both alliance.

However, I don't think everyone think the same as me. Others could think that an international alliance could benefit or protect their country and so in their opinion, an international alliance make the world safer. But for me, it's just one side of an international alliance. The other side that people failde to notice was the tensions that countries had now could be indirectly caused by an international alliances. Sometimes, war and conflicts isn't just caused by only tensions between countries. But, it's also supported by tensions caused from an international alliance. And, I don't like to mention what type of international alliance because all kind of international alliance could have similar negative effects.
