Do international alliances always make the world safer, or can they sometimes lead to more tension?

I think alliances can sometimes lead to some tension, but although this can happen it is also much more beneficial for a country to be in an alliance because of several reasons:
If a country joins an other with the stronguest economic and military power, your country will also be benefited by that. An example of these is Poland when it joined the NATO, its economic power is now a days reaching a 220% from what it was on 1989, and it is partly thanks to NATO allies. Also its military power grew, from beign one of the weakest countries till beign now the NATO´s third most powerful country in military forces.
Joing an alliance is also beneficial for a country because it might provide you help in case of enemies attacks. In case of NATO, they have Article 5 of the Washington treaty, which says that an armed attack against one or more members of the alliance is considered an attack against all. This will be good for a country as it was for United States on September 12 of 2001, when the treaty was invoked by NATO following the 9/11 terrorist attacks. It was the first time the treaty was needed but fortunately NATO lauched its first anti-terror operation. Allies supported the USA as they would do with any other country in case of needed.
Taking part in an alliance also will provide a country a better perspective when making decisions. Others opinion when taking a decision make it more accurate and of higher quality thanks to seen other points of view. In an alliance all countries can give opinion about it and, as in a group, impeuve it with new knowledge and and better perspective. An alliance is built on trust on each other, and the well bean of a country affects all of them, so they all will try to help as much as they can.
After giving all this reasons I must also said that in an alliance there may be some problems or disagreement about a common decition, but as some as in a team, that is not a big disadvantage compared with all benefits join it provides.
