I believe it's safer for a country to have many different allies because no matter how powerful the relationship is,having multiple allies can support you, supply you,or even fight back if they come upon an unexpected turn. There are endless possibilities, including negative, but even if something negative happens, other allies can help.

One reason is your allies could support and supply you,no matter the situation. For example,The Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan and eventually got so bad, they made the INF treaty.

Another reason is that allies can fight back for other countries and do more than one country can.For example,In the Soviet-Afghan war,the U.K and other countries helped fight back and provided weapons and money to the Mujadeen rebels fighting the Soviet.

In conclusion,Having multiple allies can have multiple benefits, like recieving weapons or support and could possibly get more than just one relationship could give you.
