Should countries stay allies even if their leaders don’t get along?

"For NATO to be stronger, its partners need to be stronger... The stronger and more capable the partners in NATO are, the stronger NATO is." This is from an expert of NATO from April 2025. This explains how alliances only look for benefits for their countries, not friendships.
Throughout history, there have been lots of alliances, some more important than others, but most important the ones that are honest or just a lie to the society.
In my opinion, an alliance is not just signing a paper, it's about sharing your thoughts, military equipment, political thoughts... For this reason, we have to take into account different factors before making an alliance and one is with who we are doing it.
The first reason is, alliances are made to protect the population, they are not personal. In more details, alliances are important decisions that a country leader makes and they have to think globally, not just on themselves. Although some people may think that it's better to get along, it isn't necessary after all if it benefits our own country.
Secondly, we see nowadays a lot of new alliances but the majority of them are just made by strategic interests. Besides, all the military alliances that they made during world wars were just made thinking on their own. Some good examples are the alliance between Tony Blair y Gordon Brown or Donald Trump y Kamala Harris. They didn't get along well with each other but their alliances increased efficient governments and consecutive election victories.
Finally, a lot of leaders decided to alliance in world wars to not lose power or benefits. However, there are some exceptions such as the “Three bigs”, an important alliance between the United Kingdom, EE.UU. and URSS made in the middle of World war two. This alliance, known as the "Grand Alliance," was key to defeating Nazi Germany. Despite their differences, the leaders combined resources, military strategy, and political thoughts that would turn the tide of this war.
Nonetheless, someone who disagrees might think all alliances need to be done if the leaders get along but that's really difficult. The world is really enormous and a lot of people don't get along, especially if it involves politics. A leader doesn't need to focus if I agree with other leaders or not, they need to look for the best for their country and society.
In conclusion, I completely believe that it isn't necessary for making an alliance that leaders get along. Throughout history, alliances were and are made with strategic purposes, not with friendship ones. Besides, we need to take into account that alliances are not like making friends, you give your confidence, resources and money to other countries and that involves all of the humans that live there, not just one person.
