Can technology make sports more equal, or does it only widen the gap between competitors?

Have you ever heard of technology in sports? If you recently watched the Winter Olympics, you may have seen different types of technology in use! I feel that technology can help make sports better, but it can also give unfair advantages. In the most recent games, Team USA used 3D-printed spikes to enhance ice grip. This technology might help to create larger records, but I feel this technology may sometimes give teams unfair advantages. Therefore, I think that technology should be used less in sports to make it more fair for teams who can’t afford the same technology.
- Recently, there was a record high of technology use in the 2026 Winter Olympics. Multiple teams used drones to show “first person” views for the audience to watch and hear on radio and television. When these videos are seen by different sponsors, they may choose to sponsor high performing teams. When these teams get sponsors, more people watch them and the team earns more money. With this money, they may buy technology such as AI to repeat key moments and pictures. These pictures may be false causing viewers to believe them. As a result, this gives them an unfair advantage over others just because of false technology.
- People who might feel as if I’m wrong would be coaches and players who use these technologies for improved performances. They may say that the rules allow the use of technology, but they really don’t care about how it might negatively impact others. With this technology, the players have easier movements, practices, and recoveries.Although this is true, there is a man named Jeremy White who has an article about how a helmet ruined his skiing trip. The helmet is the RG2. He talks about how you can take off the helmet with gloves. However he says “Trouble is, taking the chin piece off was never a problem. Putting the darn thing on was the issue.” Although the RG2 is available to citizens, the teams could also alter the helmet. These alterations could give the player an unfair advantage!
- In summary, I believe that some technology can help. I also think that the technology could give players an unfair advantage against other teams which is not fair. This advantage would make athletes break records due to technology rather than their talents! Therefore, technology should be limited unless everyone has access to the same resource.
