I think technology has greatly changed modern sports, including the winter Olympics. However, the debate on whether modern technology promotes equality among sports participants or increases the gap between them is still on-going. Based on my personal perspective, I think modern technologies can promote equality in sports to some extent, but at the same time, they can increase the gap between sports participants.

On the one hand, modern technologies have greatly promoted equality in sports. Perhaps the most significant contribution of modern technologies to promoting equality in sports is the ability of modern technologies to ensure accurate decision-making.Modern technologies, such as video analysis, motion tracking, and accurate timing, have been very instrumental in ensuring accurate decision-making. Additionally, modern technologies have enabled sports participants to keep track of their physical condition, thus reducing the chances of injuries. With modern technologies, sports participants can concentrate on improving their skills, strategies, and physical condition. With these technologies, sports participants can be sure of fair play, where the only determinant of success is hard work and talent.

On the other hand, technological advantages are not available equally to all sportsmen and countries. The richer and developed nations and teams are in a position to spend more on advanced equipment and facilities available in technology and sports science research. In addition, in winter sports, even small technological advancements in equipment and clothing are likely to have a major impact on results. Therefore, it is not possible for sportsmen form developing and financially poor nations to compete with others even if they possess exceptional talent and commitment.

Further, it is also argued that excessive reliance on technology might lead to a diversion of focus from the true essence of sports. This is because of results are entirely dependent on equipment and technology, it is not clear whether it is the athlete or technology that is helping him win.

Thus, it is very important that the role of technology in sports is regulated and governed by respective sports organizations and authorities. In conclusion, it is evident that technology is likely to reduce and also widen inequality in sports and hence it is crucial to strike a balance between the two aspects for fair and true results in sports.
