Should technology be used in sport?
Good morning, everyone, I hope you are having a lovely start to your day. Today I am here with you to discuss a very important topic that can influence the way sports with technology are played. The topic, should technology be used in sports. Personally, I am on the side that technology should not be used in sports for it brings lots of negatives. In this speech I will explain the multitude of reason backing up my opinion.
The first thing I will state is that technology doesn’t actually make the game fairer. VAR, was created so that there are no more inconsistent, bad decisions. It is a good idea but poorly executed. They didn’t think of all the cons. Some may argue that correct decisions have gone up from 82 percent to 96 percent but the truth is that it still is not perfect. The referee is not perfect nor is VAR, also the mistakes it made, that I can promise you that a human would see. I can vouch because even me and three other people easily saw that the situation called for offside but VAR called it onside which eventually made the team that was given a free goal win the match. Another reason is that it ruins the sport. Before VAR when it was established in 2016, defenders would go all in for a tackle strikers didn’t care about offside no one was scared. With ai players are scared that the referee will blow the whistle. Think of this question, what is the point of sports without fun excitement.
Finally, ai gives an unfair advantage to other participating athletes. One example is that a Norwegian ski team won a competition 2 times in a row that was because the used special threads. Clubs with more money will buy the latest technology.
Throughout this speech you have seen that VAR doesn’t make the game fairer, and technology just gives and unfair advantage so the truth is that ai doesn’t make it safer. It ruins the experience and honestly were better of without. The way to move forward? Is not to remove but to improve it. No fun no sport. Don’t cheat. Learn it, play it, master it.
