Politics Prize 2023

Topical Talk Prizes are a chance for students who take part in Topical Talk lessons to get recognition for sharing informed opinions about the news. This competition gets students talking about the standard of politicians' behaviour.
Entry deadline: November 20th 2023.

From crime and carelessness, to corruption and cluelessness – politicians are often in the news for the wrong reasons. This competition gives students the opportunity to have their say about politicians and their standards of behaviour.

How do I get my students involved?

  • Teach the lessons

    Download the Special Edition from our resource library and run the easy-set-up lessons with your students to help them make informed opinions.

  • Students create

    In Lessons 5 & 6, students will create a piece of work to share their final opinions about the question: what’s the best way to maintain politicians’ standards of behaviour?

  • Enter the competition

    Enter your students’ work into the Politics Prize 2023 by November 20th 2023 for a chance to win! See entry requirements below for more details.

What will Prize winners get?

The students' work will be judged by an expert journalist from The Economist.

Winners will get their work published on our website, alongside personalised feedback – and they’ll be sent a goodie bag, perfect for budding reporters.

Entry requirements

  1. To enter the competition, teachers must email their students’ work to [email protected] with their students' first names, ages, school name and country
  2. Teachers can send multiple entries in one email or multiple emails, but only one entry per student will be accepted.
  3. Only entries sent from a registered Topical Talk account-holder email will be considered
  4. Students must be between 9 to 16-years-old
  5. The students' work must be a product of the Special Edition lessons
  6. Entries must be submitted by November 20th 2023
