Thank you to everyone who entered the competition in the last week of term. We're delighted to announce our final two winners of the year:
delightful_effort of Michael Faraday School who came up with an original and simple idea related to the Future of Work Issue. The task was very easy to follow and would have led to lots of creative thinking.
believable_hippopotamus of Ormiston Bushfield Academy who set a challenge to interpret statistics on a new Issue idea - health care. We were really impressed with the level of thought that went into their questions.
Well done to both of you!
It's nearly the end of the year so we thought that this week, we would put the competition in YOUR hands.
Your challenge this week is to think of your own BNC competition.
It can be related to any of the Issues from the year but you must explain which skill it links to and why.

My competition links to the Issue Cancel culture.
I would challenge people to research stories about the news in Cancel Culture and report in which scene is fairest/unfairest for people to be cancelled.
This would help students use both speaking and listening skills as they would need to listen to the stories and share their opinion and backup for what they say.
My competition links to the Issue about Cancel Culture.
I would challenge people to think up of a situation where cancel culture was unfairly used. This would help students to practise their creativity and problem-solving skills because you have to think up of a situation and also judge whether it is unfair or not. I also think that it will help their listening skills because they would have to explain why they think the situation is unfair. Maybe as an extra, the student can think about the suitable punishment for the 'crime' the cancelled person did. This will help their listening skills because they would have to understand and learn more about the problem and think up of a suitable consequence.
My competition links to the Issue about protesting.
I would challenge people to research and find out about what people have recently been protesting about around the world and think of a fair way to solve it.
This would help students to practise the skill of both listening and creativity because they would need to listen to both sides of the story, and then think of a fair way to solve it in a way that both sides are happy.
My competition links to the issue about cancel culture.
I would challenge people to actually think about whether it is actually fair and whether it actually achieves justice or whether it's just a way to shut people out and to just exclude them and then give me a reason about why they think that.
This would help them to practice problem solving and creativity because they would have to think about the circumstances and whether its fair or not.
My competition is linked to protest
I would like to challenge people about protest because protest is happening a lot and has happened quite recently because of something I find quite stupid.
I would also like to challenge them about protest because I think that protest can help them develop more in their speaking skills and their listening skills since they can’t get to say what they want to say.
My competition links to the Issue 'The future of work'. I would challenge people to decide if it is a good idea to work from home. This would help student to practise the skill of speaking for their own side of their argument and listening to other sides of the argument as well. It would also help problem solving and creativity since it makes make you try and think about both hands of the argument before you decide what side you are on. This is why a competition to decide if working from home would be a great idea.
Challenge:
Research some companies that are building back greener and list them. Choose the one YOU think are doing the best job and why. ( Remember that it is your opinion )

My competition links to the Issue Protest.
I would challenge students to use their skills to share their opinion on which type of protest they think is the most effective, and to explain their reason why, with examples of their chosen protest. They should then ask other students a question concerning protest as a challenge.
This would help them to learn examples of protests, and will develop their speaking, problem-solving and listening skills. This is because they need to listen (which is reading online) to the examples in the news, they will need to explain, developing their speaking skills, and will need to choose which type of protest they think is most effective by using their problem-solving skills.

My competition links to the Issue about ' Build Back Greener '. I would challenge people to ' Build Back Greener ' because I want them to know about it because our planet is a MESS! We need to clean our planet otherwise...... we're DOOMED! We need to alert as many people as possible to try and make them help. We need our planet to survive! This would also help the people practise the skill of creativity because ' Creative people can come up with ideas about what might be going on and what could be done about it '. These people/You can find a solution to this problem and then they/you will try to fix/clean our planet ( Earth ).
Our planet is WARMING. We MUST act NOW ( before it is TOO LATE ) !

Competition:
This week's competition is to research about the topic ' Build Back Greener ' and make a comment ( try your best to make it like a poster or make a final piece and say on the comments section of the competition ' I've completed it on my final piece! ' ). You must explain why we should stop cancel culture in your comment / final piece . YOUR target is to PERSUADE the reader to help with building back greener. The 2 lucky winners will each get their very own copies of their comment / final piece. You can use them to stick them all around your street , place or anything else! Don't be shy to be as creative as you like!

My competition links to the 'Future of Work' . I would ask you to think of a job and suggest how it could be improved in the future ? This would help your speaking , listening, creativity and problem solving skills because you would have to be creative and think of a problem in a job that if you could solve, you would. It also involves your speaking and listening skills because your sharing your ideas and you can listen to other people's ideas. :D
My competition links to the issue about From pandemic to Infodemic.
I would challenge people to research and express their views about the question: Even though you don’t have to legally wear a mask which started from Monday 19th July, should you wear a mask to protect other people from covid-19?, (in case you are asymptomatic, which means you don’t know that you are infected by covid). People will have to explain and research their reasons with a point, evidence, explanation and link : PEEL.
This would help the students to practise the skills speaking, listening and problem-solving because, for listening - students would listen to the arguments about the question, for and against, for speaking - and then based on that, students could express their own opinion on what they believe, and for problem-solving - students will be able to solve the problem based on what they think should be done - Should people wear a mask to protect other people from covid-19?
My competition is about the issue racism. I would challenge people to explain why they think racism is bad and why it should stop. I would also challenge people to show or explain how to show racism the red card and why. I would choose this because racism is wrong and it shouldn't be allowed. This is why I would choose my competition about racism.
My competition topic would be based on the issue of health care and mental health. Personally I would challenge people who enter the competition to have a look at statistics within the past 5-1o years (different age categories) and I would let them compare and explain the results amongst each other. I think not only that but the competitors should list why health care should be more openly talked about; this would be beneficial and may challenge people because it gives a sense of reasoning, but also lets the society take a step back and contemplate why the world may be like this.
My competition links to the issue about ‘Arts’.
I would challenge people to pick one art piece that they think is important and explain why they think it’s important.
This would help students to practise the skill of listening as well as speaking because students would listen to the other students explanation about the art, listening skill, and the students would explain their answer, speaking skill. This will give everyone an equal opportunity to speak their mind while others listen.
