Reducing the cost of healthcare in general

This post was written by a student. It has not been fact checked or edited.

When people hear reduction in healthcare they do not necessarily think about a reduction in the cost of appliances needed to provide healthcare or the reduction in the cost of materials they only think about the reduction in the price of the healthcare given no matter the inconvenience it gives to the doctors.

According to the hbr.org The aging of populations and the development of new treatments are behind some of the increase. Perverse incentives also contribute: Third-party payors (insurance companies and governments) reimburse for procedures performed rather than outcomes achieved, and patients bear little responsibility for the cost of the health care services they demand, there is an almost complete lack of understanding of how much it costs to deliver patient care, when people talk about cost reduction, they think it means reducing the cost of healthcare to the patients but it also means reducing the cost of the delivering the actual healthcare. Poor costing systems have disastrous consequences. It is a well-known management saying that what is not measured cannot be managed or improved.

According to hbr.org Since providers misunderstand their costs, they are unable to link cost to process improvements or outcomes, preventing them from making systemic and sustainable cost reductions. Instead, providers (and payors) turn to simplistic actions such as across-the-board cuts in expensive services, staff compensation, and head count. But imposing arbitrary spending limits on discrete components of care, or on specific line-item expense categories, achieves only marginal saving and that is true. They make the service favorable for the person giving the need but not favourable for the person that gives the healthcare out. This same thing happens in my country, the service bolt protects the passengers but do not really regard the drivers, they collect all sort of information from the drivers but nothing from the passengers it is due to this that drivers have been killed numerous times by passengers and no one knows why.

We need to work towards total reduction of the price of medical care in general, we cannot keep reducing the salaries of doctors or reducing the appliances of certain applianes in order to make healthcare convenient for one party while the other part is unsatisfied.

I mean the more we continue to care about one party the more we continue to reduce the ratio of doctors to patients the cost of healthcare will continue to increase and doctors will continue to leave their jobs.

HOW CAN WE REDUCE THE GENERAL COST OF HEALTHCARE?

HOW DO WE SATISFY BOTH PATIENTS AND DOCTORS?

WILL THE GENERAL COST OF HEALTHCARE EVER REDUCE?
