METAVERSE: ITS EFFECT ON THE MENTAL HEALTH PRODUCTIVITY OF MAN

Metaverse can simple be defined as the single, shared, immersive, persistent, 3D virtual space where humans experience life in ways they could not in the physical world. This idea alone is appealing to those who wish to escape from reality or who want to entertain themeselves. Examples of a metaverse include: Roblox, Fortnite, Minecraft and so on. A metaverse is simply a place where humans can live in their own imagination. It ia a huge step forward for the MMOSG society. But, everything has its disadvantages.

As we should know, mental health and productivty are closely linked, and with the ability of man to detach from the real world for such a prolonged period of time, the life of man is bound to be affected negatively. The excessive participation in activities involving the metaverse can result in so many problems going from procrastination to addiction. People wouldn't feel the need to carry out their responsiblities. This can lead to cyberbullying, obesity, depression, anxiety, lack of motivation, stress, paranoia, psychoses, and somatic sypmtoms.

The metaverse is packed with so many advantages like social connections, collaboration, opportunities, and entertainment but at what cost? The devlopment of virtual and augmented reality shows that the metaverse is yet to reach its full potential.

Mobile games on their own have taken a toll on the mind and body of the human being. For example; social anxiety, interpersonal conflict, muscoskeletal problems and fatigue. How much more the recent developments in the metaverse?

With this understanding, how are we going to combat and hopefully curb the issues that the metaverse is inflicting on man as of today? How will we spread awareness of this predicament?
