In 1995, scientists and leaders from different countries ‘called for a worldwide meeting to discuss an issue that has been threatening the world which is “ climate change” COP stands for “Conference of Parties”. This was a time when the first COP was held Berlin. Since then the COP has been held annually to discuss what was agreed as climate crisis. In the few coming lines, we will discuss what is meant by climate crisis, its causes and effects on humanity.
Climate crisis or climate emergency is a term used to describe the degree of seriousness of different types of threats and dangers caused by climate change. Through the first decades of the past century, the weather all over the world was known and stable. For example, Egypt weather was known to be dry and hot in summer while warn and rainy in winter. The Gulf area was known for its extreme heat while the area of Europe and America were marked by cold weather. So what happened to make all the changes?? A lot of human activities has been in progress. These activities include increase in numbers of factories that marked the revolution industry in Europe and spread allover the world. Add to this increase in the number of people riding private cars, increase in number of different means of transportation especially planes, increase in air conditioning and heating inside houses , increase in pollution from factories, waste areas and dumps, plastic products. In many parts we see increase in using lots of oil to power cars and planes, burning coal and oil in factories as well as burning coal, oil and gas to make electricity. As a result of all these actions, the Earth is witnessing hyper global warming which is causing climate changes all over the world. We find some area are hotter and dries while others are getting wetter and others witness more and more extreme weather. So we can call what we see now climate anxiety more than climate crisis which marks a lot of extreme worry about what is coming next and how we are and will be affected by this.
So, will we keep standing still or we will try to do something? If we go back to 2020 at the time of the pandemic we can we can remember it was reported that the ozone layer was about to be healed due to less human activities in travel and work and all other activities. We need to move to transitive forms of energy. We need to stop buying private cars and move to public transport or using bikes. Switch the lights that are not needed. Use less air conditions. Adopt “Reduce, reuse, repair and recycle” as our motto. Switch to electric vehicles. Eat more vegetables and throw away less food. These actions may by small but will lead to greater results
To conclude, we need to take actions to stop the mania of climate energy we need to stop, think and reflect on our daily activities and watch out.
