equal pay gap

The gender pay gap shows us that there is still a lot of injustice in our society and economy because it points to big and deep problems. It is super important to tackle these pay gaps between women and men, not only to be fair, but also because it can help the economy as a whole. If we narrow the gender pay gap, more women could earn more money, which means fewer women would be poor. We need a plan that includes both new laws and changes in the way we think about gender roles. The goal is not only to make it fairer for women, but also to make our society as a whole fairer and more successful.

One example of how we draw attention to the gender pay gap is "Equal Pay Day". This day shows how much longer women have to work to earn what men earned in the previous year. For example, if Equal Pay Day is in March, this means that women have to work almost three months longer to earn the same annual salary as men. This shows us how big the gap really is and why we have to keep at it to close it.
