Elon Musk - Is he too powerful?
This post was written by a student. It has not been fact checked or edited.

Elon Musk bought Twitter. But this isn’t the first step of his road to taking influence in the world. Elon Musk has a huge economic influence. He owns “Tesla”, “SpaceX” and some other companies. Tesla’s cars were and still are the world’s leading electric cars. With “SpaceX” he tries to make traveling into space affordable for everyone. With those companies in his back, he does not only have a huge influence in economics but also in politics. This influence comes because many (mostly American) politicians get influenced by those companies.
As I said, Musk has also bought “Twitter” (X). Now that he owns Twitter, he controls what is posted. So, there are fewer freely shared opinions. He also controls the algorithm. This means that if you open Twitter, it is more likely for you to see posts by Donald Trump or people who are related to Musk than other content you might want to see or expect to see. By changing what is posted and what the consumers see, Musk influences people and their way of thinking.
By his economic power, Musk got involved in politics, and he still is. He has an office in the American government and tried to influence the German elections by doing live chats with Alice Weidel, the chancellor candidate of the AfD, a right-wing party. He also got involved in Italian politics.
I think some influence is okay and understandable. But at some point, as Elon Musk, it is too much. It is kind of perverse how much influence he has. Some people might say that Musk achieved all this on his own, and then it’s okay to have this influence. But I don’t think so. If he achieved all this on his own, by hard work, you should let him have his money, but he must not have this much influence. He can have some influence, but if he focused on America and didn’t take influence in Europe, I would be fine with it. But so much influence is too much!
Overall, I would say that Elon Musk is too powerful because he takes political, economic, and social influence. You should let people have their money and some influence, but at this point, it is too much.

I agree with your statement that Elon Musk did not earn his power. US president Donald Trump created a whole department for Musk. Musk is the head of the federal department DOGE (Department of government efficiency), which is a department that didn't exist before president Trump selected Musk as one of his advisors.
