Written standpoint on Elon Musk

Topic: Elon Musk: Money, power, and influence

Question: Is Elon Musk’s power a problem ?

I believe that Elon Musks’ power can be a problem if he uses it

wrong, which he is already kind of doing.

The first reason that supports my opinion is that just already the relation-

ship between him and Donald Trump is a bit problematic because by hav-

ing this high political position, Musk can easily influence people and

change their minds. Many people believe that certain politicians or overall

people who are involved in politics, have an idea of what they’re doing be-

cause why else would they be in this high position ? A political posi-

tion/politics is a good and fast way to influence people. In Germany for ex-

ample, far right-wing parties influence the opinions of many people so that

they can be elected, which actually works. Elon Musk can also influence

people with his political postion. But popularity and social media influence

also plays a big role. To be involved in politics he used his money, of

which he has alot, and bought Twitter. Just buying the app has already

made him famous. And by posting other things on there too, like his opin-

ion and other ideas he gained even more popularity. Another example

which supports my opinion is that, as soon as people start to win a lot of

money and have a high position like in this case a political postion, they

start to realise the power they have and see it as an opportunity. As an op-

portunity for themselves and their own purposes, rather than for example

helping people. Elon Musk does use this power or his political postion for

his own purposes like ,,X’’ or ,,SpaceX’’

.

In conclusion, Elon Musk's immense power, driven by his wealth, political

influence, and social media presence, could pose a significant problem if

misused, as it allows him to manipulate public opinion for personal gain

rather than for the greater good

  • No I don’t think his power is a problem because it is not hurting anyone it is not doing anything to the world. It is not hurting anybody’s lives so what’s the problem with his power.his money doesn’t do anything to the world ether.

    1. I do not agree. He is, in fact, one of the most powerful persons in the world. In the US, he is leading the government department DOGE, which is responsible for the firing of over 277,000 people since January 2025. He definitely has influence on world politics because of his close relationship with the US-President Trump.
Well, this wouldn't really be a problem if he would use his power to do something good. But he isn't. Over 200,000 government employees have lost their job because of him, with no apparent reason as "not being productive", which has been disproven over and over again. Thousands have lost their entire existence because of him. And this only in the first month. The number of government employees fired for unfair reasons is why to high. And this is definitely affecting people.
Additionally, he has tried to influence the German federal elections by supporting the far right party AfD. This party is not only open about their racist world view, no, they also want the deportation of "Ausländers", basically everyone who does not have German roots. I don't think I need to explain why his influence on the world is rather bad.
And all of this would not have been possible without his money. With his money, he bought the social media platform X(formerly Twitter) which supports hate speech and the harassment of people who don't support Musk's worldview or have disproven him.
A group of climate activists have received millions of death threats just because Elon Musk decided to hate on them.
The people who let him control their actions make him really dangerous.

    2. I disagree, as an American I have seen a few major problems with Musks power. For example, there were firings in the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration), the CDC (Center for decides control), the national park service, and many other federal organizations. This could ruin the lively hoods of many people who work for the United States government. In addition we have seen that the firings in the FAA have already caused problems, as there have been many plane crashes in the last few weeks. I personally know people who have either been fired or forced to return to the office by Musk's department.

  • Wow, I totally agree with you! Elon Musk’s power is like a huge, shiny balloon that could float away and cause trouble if it’s not handled carefully. When someone has so much money and influence, it’s easy for them to use that power to do whatever they want—kind of like a kid with a giant candy store. The problem is, the more power you have, the more it can start to feel like you can do anything, even if it’s not always the right thing. It’s like having a magic wand—you could use it to help people, but it’s super tempting to use it just for yourself.

Elon Musk already has a ton of influence, and when he got involved in politics or even bought Twitter, it was like he got even more control, like suddenly having the biggest microphone in the world. The more people listen to him, the more he can sway their opinions. If he’s using that microphone to promote his own interests, that could be really dangerous, like someone steering a ship in the wrong direction, even though they’re supposed to be helping everyone get to safety.

Also, I think you’re spot on when you say that once people start getting too powerful, they start thinking more about what they can do for themselves, rather than for the greater good. It’s like when someone gets the biggest slice of pizza, but instead of sharing it, they eat it all themselves. The more money and control he gets, the more temptation there is to put his own desires first.

What do you think would happen if someone like Musk kept using his power for personal gain instead of helping others?

  • Very interesting thoughts!
How do you think he should be using his wealth and influence for the greater good?

    1. Well it’s not very easy to change his mind and opinion on different topics, but he could for example explain to the public why he is making these certain decisions. This way the people can understand him better. Another example is that he shouldn‘t only make decisions on his own, but Musk should also involve other politicians or even citizens before he chooses what he wants. This could be very helpful because first, if he works with other people who have more knowledge on certain topics, he can find better solutions. And second, by involving other people, there will definetly be other opinions, this can lead to him making decisions which are fair for everyone because he also listens to other peoples thoughts.
