Syrian refugees: an international problem.
Looking at the news headlines in the past few months, one of the most intriguing questions is what sould happen to the Syrian refugees. The host countries are not known for helping these people whatever their backround is. Currently almost half of Syria 's registered refugees(aprox. 3.1 million) live in turkey, which hosts the largest refugee population in the world. The turkish gonverement grants Syrians temporary protected status (also known as TPS), allowing them to stay legaly, though it does not provide a track to citizenship. The other half live in Lebanon, Germany, Jordan and Iraq( source:www.theguardian.com). I think that the refugees deserve safety and of course, the oportunity to build stable lives, whether that means staying in the host countries or even returning back home. None of these people have chosen to be refugees and they shouldn't be treated as a burden. The international community needs to support not just in terms of humanitarian aid, but also in helping Syria recover so that returning back home becomes an option for those who want it. I have to admit that its a tough situation with no ideal solution, but the priority should always be protecting the human lives and rights. No one can deny that that the situation is really complicated, but all the people should find a stable home, where all their rights are protected.
