  • What catches my eye about these is how the influence of our worldview is so clear. What this means is that if our online experience is ranked first, it implies that many young people are learning about the world through technology before understanding it themselves. The internet is geared around speed and popularity than accuracy. At the same time, the opinions of people close to us and the environment we grow up in quietly set boundaries on what feels "acceptable' to think. Together, this creates a pressure to agree rather than to question. These results remind me that shaping a worldview today is less about what we are taught and more about what we are surrounded by. If we don't question those influences, we may never know which thoughts are truly ours.

    1. Yes straightforward_artist. You have really raised good strong points and I totally agree with you. I was not really shocked by the results though. Our online experience was ranked first because according to statistics (sources gotten from google), approximately 68% of the global population 27% of their day online. That is about 5.56 billion people spending 6 hours, 38 minutes daily every single day! With this, it is sure that online experience will be ranked first. Where you grow up and live and also the people who you are close to play a crucial role in shaping your worldview. These two help imbibe acceptable norms and values in you as you grow up. I am going to give a very practical example. Let's imagine this boy called Nathan. Nathan had a very rough childhood. He was an orphan who was reminded that his parents did not want him and e was quite useless. Everywhere and everyone around him screamed rejected. That has already started shaping his view about the world. He already sees the world as wicked and cruel. When he goes on the internet, he wouldn't want to see anything happy as it will make him feel worse. He just keeps looking at negative things. This will shape his online feed which will just worsen his view about the world. In average circumstances, where there is no better change in his life, his worldview is going to be very negative. In summary, these factors really affect, shape and change our views about the world in their different ways.

  • Yes is what I spected, because we use online and a lot of digital things everytime and this is very common because now its more advanced, but it is interesting that the other two ones are so close , so that means that online influence us almost the same as where we live or the people close to us.

    1. Can you explain why it is interesting that the other two are so close?

  • Welcome Back Topical Talkers
It is striking that these results show a largely balanced distribution, and it seems there is no single winner in terms of what influences our perspective; rather, it is a fair competition between our digital lives, our physical environment, and our personal relationships.
It's astonishing how similar, even convergent, these results are, as if our minds are pulling in three different directions simultaneously. The internet is shouting one thing, your neighbors are doing another, and your best friend is whispering a third. In shout, we are all a massive mix of our browsing habits, our geographical location, and our group conversations.
Since all three are within 1% of each other, it implies that most people are influenced by a "triple threat" of factors. You aren't just a product of your feed and your inner circle simultaneously.

    1. Did you think that one influence was going to out-weigh the other two?

  • I agree because... all of this things are the building units of the world view a person may see. Firstly, all of the stuff a person may see online will play a big role in shaping worldview to him. secondly,it is believed that the environment in which the person is living in may shape his personality and his world over view. Finally, all thoughts people around you have may occasionally change your worldview, and those people may be friends or family members.

To conclude,I see that this poll is actually telling the truth as all of this three things may build a person's worldview.

  • it catches my eye how technology is just improving

you will see children with phones laptops it is nit good beacuse reduces thier mental thinking

  • So.... Yes what we see in online came out slightly ahead, while where we live and the people around us followed closely . So the results show us about how different influences come together to shape the way of ours and other's perspective too.

  • Well, I am a Nigerian topical talker and in where I come from, we are most times restricted from using our phones some parents don't even buy their kids phones which is most times a good thing, anyway back to the topic, my world view is most times if not all the time gotten from what people closest to me think because you could say that I am always around them and well I live around a lot of wise people so I trust most of the things they say and I know you might say that if I know they are wise then why don't I trust every thing they say, well the honest answer is I'm a teen and I don't really trust some things. So my world view is 57% gotten from what the people closest to me think, then like 33% is gotten from what I see online and i guess the remaining 10% is gotten from where i live and I guess it is because I don't really see weird, new or crazy things everyday, so yes this is how my world view is shaped. : )

  • I didn’t expect this at all! It’s interesting to see that all three factors have somewhat of an equal influence because i think your geographical location matters BUT the people around you and social media have a stronger impact on your worldview. Especially since we are constantly flooded with people from all over the world online.

  • I was suprised at the result especially since we see a lot of different people and places online. We are exposed to many different opinions, maybe before technology our worldview was more shaped by where we live rather than all three. It is hard to think that all three are equal nowadays.

  • I strongly agree with the resulta obtained in the poll and are the same ones as I expected due to the fact that social media is a really popular tool used by youngsters, actually a huge percentage of them change constantly their worldview based on what the see on the network. Of course where you spend most of your time changes the way you see the world, a person living in one country with some specific habits and living conditions see the world in a completely different way than an individual living on an other place. Last but not least, your close-knit friends and family thoughts affect your way of seeing the world, because after spending a lot of time with them you start sharing the same ideas, thoughts and even behavior.

  • what influenced me to the topical talk is [1]it helps students think well [2]time management accuracy and open mindness
many students making educating comment making influencing and encouraging advice giving questions to educating answsers

  • Hello, the truth is that I did not expect that what we saw on the internet or on social media would affect our society so much, but if we think about it , I think we use new technologies too much in our day to day, we use them for everything and for unnecessary things and I think this poll can make us reflect since it is not very good that what we see online is so important in our lives.

What I do agree with , are the data that talks about how it affects where we live and the people we are surrounded by , since they are fundamental foreverything we do.

  • While I wasn't expecting it to be balanced (although social media would dominate this poll only having 1% higher) but i think this was or is a good result. Although the internet is a place where people can post their stuff and express themselves I think having an outlook on friends or family's views is for the best while where u live is most likely because due to how people have not explored the world or they make they view off from their environment is good one to. Overall while the internet is the best place for learning, exploring, and other areas of the other internets I think we all should explore and get our own ideals/Views before going online.

  • Hello, I have been quite impressed that internet is at the same level as the place where we live and the people around us , the first thing that everyone would think would be that we let ourselves be influenced by family and friends, the last thing I think that influences us to make our decisions is internet because it is the place where they least tell us the truth.

  • It is very interesting to see that the poll results are split almost perfectly into three parts it shows that our views are shaped by many different things like the internet our house and our friends l was a bit surprised that what you see online was the highest but it makes sense since we use social media so much it proves that everyone has a different way of looking at the world based on where they get their information from

  • What I found most surprising is that the highest ranked thing was What you see online. This is because I know that the popularity of technology grew so rapidly over time from when technology became first introduced to todays world when people are already coming up with ideas of an IPhone 18. It is crazy how social media grew in people’s daily lives especially if we think what life would be without tech.
I find it interesting that people started to like technology so much that they think that it shapes there lives.
However, it is understandable to think of it in a different point of view because without tech we wouldn’t even be able to communicate with each other without saying a word. Without tech we would not be able to have these weekly discussions about topics. And without tech we would not be able to continue our current lives as we are right now.

Looking at the two other choices we are given, I think that they are reasonable options because Where we live can stop us from doing daily routines and activities that we do all the time at our house, work and school. It can also affect the way our bodies feel to unfamiliar places depending whether it is too crowded or too far away from people.
The third option is What people closest to you think. This can not only make you act differently and shape the way your body responds to certain circumstances but also can make you mentally uncomfortable and anxious. Overall I am surprised that this choice was not the first.

Thank you for reading this and have a nice day
    Yours sincerely, miraculous_juniper

  • Yes, this is more or less what I expected. Thanks to the social media and the online research we are able to learn about the perspectives of profesionals and other people worldwide rather than just our opinion or what our inner circle thinks. Also, I was a little surprised with the fact that in the poll results where we live was that important, which is a good thing. Finally, i'm happy that what the people that are close to us think have like the same influence as the other two options because that way we can discuss the topics with the people that we trust and start a very interesting debate.

  • I completly agree with the poll. In my opinion, nowadays the social media is a really good source to look influence in people and the world in general. With this, we have an open view of the world and we can make our own oppinions. in other hand, the people around us are really important to influence us even when we are kids. In conclusion I think both topics have their points, but they all are needed now to open our mind and being influence by.

  • To be frank, these results to me were like a shock because I thought that in the present the most common source of information was the media.
However, I think that these results show that we have made equal strides in decision making by not depending on one source, but collating many results in order to get information, expanding our knowledge and not favouring one over the other

  • Hi! I don't think the same, since i believe that what can influence us most is our surroundings; It is true that we are also influenced a little by the things we see through the news in our phones, but they shouldn't be, because we don't know if they're real or not.
I also think it's more fun to learn about life and the world in general by communicating with other people and sharing opinions and points of view.

  • I expected to see that ‘what I see online’ would be first as you see the news online, you see social media, you see what everyone liked online. I voted for ‘where you live’ (I think at least) and I’m surprised it didn’t win as a lot of people match the ‘aesthetic’ of their homes or country. I expected ‘what people closest to you think’ to be last but by a lot more as many people try not to think much of other people’s opinions if it doesn’t affect them.

  • I agree because... A person worldview is shaped mainly by their environment and the people there are closet to by our believe and behavior while what we see on line challenge what we already believe than creating everything from scratch

  • Hi Topical Talkers! I agree with the results, because we live in a world that the news and the social networks have the most influence over people. Some people see something on internet that they don't agree but many times they change their opinion. For example someone see a video of a famous influencer where he give him opinion and a follower of him doesn't agree with his opinion but the follower change his opinion.

On the other hand, some old people don't have mobile phones with internet and they can't access to internet. They don't shapes their opinion with internet, but with what their closest people think.

  • Many things can shape a person’s worldview, but the strongest influences are usually family, culture, education, and personal experiences.
Family teaches our first values about right and wrong. Culture and society show us traditions, beliefs, and ways of thinking. Education helps us question ideas, learn facts, and understand different perspectives. Personal experiences—both good and difficult—often shape how we see fairness, kindness, and the future the most, because they feel real and meaningful.
For many young people, social media and global events also play a big role today, since they expose us to opinions and stories from all over the world. This can broaden our thinking, but it can also be confusing, so learning to think critically is important.
In the end, a worldview is not fixed—it changes as we grow, learn, and meet new people.
What do you think shapes your worldview the most?
    Thank you topical talkers🌹
