International aid - Standpoint image 5

International aid has both economic importance and its disadvantages that leads to making my own choice based on the reasons I will provide to you all today.

Does giving international aid sometimes cause more harm than good?

I think sometime it does because, the rate at which majority has benefited from international aid varies greater than that of the minority and this holds the question on ground to discuss.

International aid as supposed to being beneficial was to help countries in need and not countries that are not in need, continues aid can create dependency, some countries still rely on aid after decades instead of developing their economy.

Aid can be mismanaged or stolen, corrupt officials sometimes take funds from peers and countries tax, so the people who need help the most may not benefit. Aid can harm local markets. For example, free food donations can make it hard for local farmers to sell their crops and earn a living.

Some people might say that aid always help those in need. However, I think they are wrong because without proper planning, aid can end up causing more problems compared to what it had solved. Just like in July 2025, the US closed its aid office showing that money alone cannot solve poverty.

In summary, international aid should focus more on helping countries to stand on their own foot, in order to promote transparency, sustainability and local development rather than creating dependence and screening it out, remember aids advantages is toping high and due to its economic importance, the illegal practice should be scraped in order to promote a beneficial international aid for the world at large.
