  • I believe that some people believe voting rights should match a person’s legal responsibilities. Their idea is that if someone must obey laws, pay taxes, and take responsibility for their actions, they should also have the right to help choose leaders and influence decisions. Others think voting is a basic right that should not depend on responsibilities. They argue that government decisions affect everyone, so everyone deserves a voice. They also worry that linking voting to responsibilities could exclude certain groups unfairly. Because of this, most democracies allow all adult citizens to vote. The debate continues because people want a balance between fairness, responsibility, and equal participation in society today.
