Do international alliances always make the world safer, or can they sometimes lead to more tension?

My big question was ‘’Do international alliances always make the world safer, or can they sometimes lead to more tension?’’ It depends on the country. I believe that it does make the world safer due to the fact that they would trust each other. Tell me, would you join an international alliance if you didn’t trust one of the members in it? I wouldn’t. Which is exactly why I do think it would make the world safer. No country would join it unless they trust that none of the other alliances do something out of line like that over the other alliance which would not be okay for the rest and would start something that no one wants to happen. This is why I believe that it will make the world safer.
However, people do think that it won’t always make it safer. Now, I don’t disagree but it depends on the country. Some would bring in Trump and all the things he's doing in the world right now. Trump created a major diplomatic standoff by pursuing the annexation of Greenland(according to trendsreseach.org), a territory of NATO ally Denmark. He refused to rule out the use of military force and threatened 25% tariffs on European allies who opposed the move. This move did make the other counties disappointed by the decision. But none wanted to get more tariffs on it since most of their business comes from the US.
However, Trump is one person, it doesn’t mean the world isn’t safe. Having an international alliance means every country has a different point of view, so Trump wouldn’t make the world not ‘’safe’’. But he is close to taring it abit.
So to me I believe that it does make the world safer due to the many different points of views, and many smart minds trying to solve problems and conflicts. 70 years of conflicts not reaching WW3 is due to NATO solving other countries' conflicts beause of many alliances working together to solve these problems.

In my opinion i will say that:
"International alliances are often seen as safeguards against war. When countries promise to defend one another, they create a sense of shared security that can discourage aggression. A strong example is North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), founded after World War II to promote collective defense. By making it clear that an attack on one member would trigger a response from all, NATO has arguably helped prevent large-scale conflict in Europe for decades. Alliances like this can build trust, encourage cooperation, and create open channels of communication that reduce misunderstandings".
However, alliances do not always make the world safer. They can also increase tension, especially when rival blocs form. Before World War I, European powers were tied together through defense agreements. When one conflict began, alliance obligations quickly pulled many nations into war. Instead of containing violence, alliances helped it spread. Similarly, during the Cold War, NATO and the Warsaw Pact divided Europe into opposing camps, deepening mistrust.
Alliances can also create fear among non-members, who may see them as threats. This can lead to arms races or counter-alliances, increasing global instability. Ultimately, alliances are tools. When managed with transparency and diplomacy, they can deter conflict. When driven by rivalry and suspicion, they can heighten it.
I like your answer. But I think the important word in the question is "always". In history we learned that alliances led to world war one. Each alliance competed to dominate Europe and to have an empire. So before 1914 alliances led to more tension. But NATO is an alliance of democratic countries. And democracies make the world safer. Some may disagree because America is bombing Iran. But NATO defends Europe.
