Can technology make sports more equal, or does it only widen the gap between competitors?

Is technology fair? I think that technology can improve sports but also widen the gap, or it can fail. Sometimes it is also unfair.

The first example that supports my opinion is in motocross, you have gears and a clutch. Some riders have electric bikes so on the start, we have to pull in the clutch and get it to gear two. Electric bikers only have to go and it gives them a huge advantage without gears.

The second example that supports my opinion is super shoes. In 2017, Nike made a type of shoes that made athletes run faster. Another reason , is expensive training items, like better boots or a headband which keeps you cool whilst everyone else is really hot.

On the other hand, the ref could be rubbing his eyes and a goal is scored. A lot of the fans are screaming it's a foul. So all the ref has to do is run to VAR and say if it's a goal or a foul.

To conclude, I think that better technology maks sports easier, does it for you?

  • I agree with you to some extent but to me I think it depends on the sport you are doing for example in equipment dominant sports, if the machine is better the athlete will have a massive head start for example cycling, formula 1 sports, sailing etc, while in some sports it is mostly used for officiating and training like like football, basketball and combat sports. The truth is that your booths or sneakers might be very expensive, if you don't have the touch, vision and teamwork you might still lose the game. Tech can only be unfair when only one team is using the tech and the other is not, you must also know the the unfairness does not necessary happen in the field but rather it happens in the dark in cases where one team can use AI for scouting and smaller teams can't even afford the software or its license, some wealthy teams can afford sleep and blood oxygen tracking equipment to help their players fully recover while smaller teams will just hope that their players feel good. When certain teams in a particular game are more favourable placed than other , the question we should ask ourselves is who exactly are the true winners?
