Can technology make sports more equal, or does it only widen the gap between competitors?

  • One strength of your Standpoint is that you show both sides of technology in sport. I really liked your example about carbon fibre shoes and the 2008 swimming suits because it clearly shows that tech doesn’t always make things fair, sometimes it helps the athletes who can afford better gear.

I agree with you that technology can make sport fairer, especially when it reduces human mistakes. For example, in tennis they use Hawk-Eye, and in football they use Video Assistant Referee . These systems don’t care who you are; they just show what really happened. That means winning depends more on skill, which supports your point.

But I also agree with your concern about expensive equipment. During the 2008 Summer Olympics, swimmers wearing high-tech suits broke many records, and later those suits were banned. That makes me think: if a record is broken mostly because of technology, is it fully fair? It’s like giving one runner super shoes and telling the others to just try harder. It doesn't feel fair, right?

One way you could make this even stronger is by adding one clear solution, like how sports organizations should control equipment to keep things equal.

Overall, I think your message is thoughtful; technology is a tool, and we choose how to use it. Thank you for making me think about both sides of this topic.
