Should modern sport test not just natural talent, but also training methods and technology, or does that make competition unfair?

  • In my own opinion, I think technology can both be fair and unfair. Technology can be fair because, in soccer, technology has created a system called Video Assistant Referee which helps the referee to check and confirm goals and possible fouls making the game fair to all players. In tennis, there is another system called the Hawk-Eye which helps the referee check whether the ball is in or out of the court, it also makes the game fair to players too. Technology has made a lot of games to be fair and equal to players. On the other hand, technology can sometimes make sports unfair and an unequal because richer teams can afford expensive gadgets and training machines to help them boost and improve their performance. Poorer teams will not be able to afford fancy technology and gadgets to improve their performance. In conclusion, technology can make sports fair only if everyone has equal access to it. The gap will become equal if there is equal access, but if there is no equal access, the gap will be widened even more.

  • In my perspective I think that Technology widens the gap. Technology is a good thing "yes" but it is not good in some cases, for example two teams are in a race(Team A and Team B) but it turns out to be that team A is richer than than team B. Team B will have to rely on his strength, and effort because the richer team will have better and more quality equipment like shoes, watches(stop) , stockings, sunshades etc. That is when buying advantage comes in. A team who is more powerful can buy more advantage because it has the money, capacity, power, and even human resources that can help them win. That means that the richer team will have more reasons to win or over take the other team even when the poorer team puts in more effort ,the richer team will still win. In summary I would say that richer teams can or will win poorer teams because they are at an advantage so technology widens the gap not make it more equal thank you.

  • I think that sport should test talent because it shapes the competitions, makes it easier and soley dependent on talent. A talented athlete possesses hidden potential and is able to turn that potential into real performance. Training sharpens ones mind but technology further helps a person to be perfect at it. In my opinion, I believe practice turns weakness into strength and also turns failure into victory. Therefore modern sports present human talents, intelligence, and technology at its best.

  • I agree with you, technolgy can not make sports more equal, it is only creating a gap due to the fact that technology is developing immensely and it is taking sports to another level which is making it easier to win medals or trophies. I understand that technology is created to make sports easier or to prevent injuries in sports, it is really helpful but in some cases people take technology for granted and some use it to cheat which makes sports unfair. It seems unfair to other countries which are deprived of these technolgy because they do not have the budget to get that technology. In sport everything about it is suppose to be fair and equal. Also, there can only be fairness where technology to be used is standardized and each team has equal access to it.
