Does AI cause more harm or good in the world?

Many praise artificial intelligence for its efficiency and ability to quickly gather information from the internet, however not many think about how it poses a threat to things such as the environment and our economy. Therefore, in my opinion, I think that AI will do more harm than good in the world.
Firstly, the usage of AI contributes a large amount of carbon emissions into the environment. In fact, by 2030 it is predicted that the amount of CO2 produced will amount to 40%. This is because the energy-intensive nature of training large models of AI results in excessive consumption of electricity as it is primarily sourced from fossil fuels. In fact, according to the MIT Technology Review, training just one AI model can emit more than 626,000 pounds of carbon dioxide.
Furthermore, the use of AI will weaken humanity’s ability to think creatively and critically as they continue to depend on AI-generated content rather than developing their own skills. People have started using artificial intelligence to create art, writing, music composition which also takes away careers as well as our innovativeness.
Building on this point, as AI continues to rapidly advance, the availability of human jobs will start to decline as AI threatens to replace careers in industries such as customer service, manufacturing, transportation, and more. This will leave many workers displaced with no alternatives and widens the gap between the working class and upper class which will result in social unrest and economic inequality.
Finally, since anyone with access to a working computer will be able to use AIs such as ChatGPT or Google’s Gemini, they therefore will have the ability to weaponize this tool, causing more harm than good. AI can be used for misinformation campaigns or cyberterrorism. With the advancement of deepfake technology, individuals can use this to create realistic videos and spread fake news or commit fraud by framing a celebrity, political member, and more which leads to severe consequences including reputational damage, legal issues and harassment.
In conclusion, while AI has a large amount of benefits like improving cybersecurity and supporting education, its negative impact on our society and economy outweigh these positives drastically. AI poses a large threat to the environment, careers, critical thinking skills and the safety of populations. Without the use of AI being regulated and the lack of sustainable alternatives, AI will continue to do more harm than good.

I agree with you meticulous _ fern AI is surely doing more harm to the society. Look , animals , human, spirits all live separately and when one interferes in others life for example we cut forests for our benefit and in turn animals attack at us similarly I think until and unless we are independent we are most luckiest . AI is currently helping us but it also sometimes over pampers us which leads to being dependent and if we are being dependent so we don’t realise that we also have our own hands and legs to work by ourselves. Elon Musk has said several times “ AI is far more dangerous than nukes” and if we are dependent on AI we will always require it and in turn it would take some revenge from us and in some or other way it will start to blackmail us in order to take control over us . It also really affects the Environment and Nature is our mother who feeds us who takes care of us who has given birth to us and AI is harming us and are mother too. One more proof that AI is our enemy is that it is trying to steal our jobs too which is our source of money and we still consider AI as our friend?? AI destroys our three pillars of life :mind ,Mother Nature and money . Here’s a question for all now , do you now consider AI as your friend or foe???
