Why AI can have harmful effects

AI is a revolutionary tool dominating society today. It is used by millions of people; and, if used correctly, it can be extremely beneficial to everyone. Throughout the years, AI has proven it's infuence by helping fields such as healthcare, science, education, retail, agriculture, and many more. However, where do we put a stop to this influence and power? Although AI has many benefits, we also have to take into account the negative factors.

The environment: Because AI is such an advanced gadget, it can use a lot of supplies. However, AI uses mass amounts of crucial resources such as water, energy, and so much more. This can deprive us of critical resources that our Earth relies on. Not only this, but AI can also emit large amounts of carbon emissions. According to research, AI can emit almost 8 tons of these harmful gases a year. This is not only detrimental to our environment, but to as well the people. It can cause more natural disasters as well as increase the amount of illnesses and diseases contracted.

Students using AI: When students are assigned work, they usually feel too exhuasted to do it themselves. Instead, their alternative is to ask AI to do it. A repetition of this academic dishonesty can not only affect them now in school, but as well in the long run. For example, if kids keep relying on AI to do their work, it will almost impossible for them to find a job as they have no prior knowledge of anything. Simple jobs as in a cashier won't even be availible as it deals with decimals and math. This can ultimately affect the economy, leading to no progress as almost everyone is using AI, leaving little to none future doctors, lawyers, etc.

Scams/Hacks: AI has reached a point where it is extremely advanced. This can be tremendously hazardous as AI can now mimick any voice or image with just a small snippet. Examples of this can be seen in real life as scammers are already taking advantage of this tool. Imagien this. Someone goes onto one of your social media accounts and record you talking. With just that small video, they can make you say anything. This can be dangerous as they are able to call anyone and get money or personal information.

Jobs: AI has also gone to a point where it can already do jobs as in janitors, baristas, waiters, etc. This can be seen as in some places, instead of a person, you'll see a robot doing the service.

Overall, although AI is an extremely helpful tool, we have to also consider the negatives of it as it is causing detrimental effects to us.
