Disagreement and debate
Discussion statements | This is for ages 14 to 16
It is more important to hear different opinions than to find the right answer.
Are you for or against? Explain why
Do you agree or disagree?
Sharing opinions is an important part of discussing the news. But is it more important to hear opinions or answers that are correct? What do you think?
You could structure your answer like this:
I think it's more important to... because...

I agree with this statment because we dont need the right answer, we need diffrent perspectives . I believe this as your opinion on something could change after you have heard the impact of something that happened to someone else . So not only do we need the right answer but the fair answer
A great point of view reflective butterfly but if we heard many different perspectives and all of them are wrong what did we get nothing! Think with me if you are having a math session what are we aiming to do get the right answers or different answers we all by default try to get the right answer, however I don't we shouldn't look for hear different perspectives because it is a way of finding the right answer, but our main aim must be the right answer to benefit us cause if we listened to other perspective and used the wrong answer in very important things like a design of a building if we got that wrong answer we will lose lives so we must look for the right answer.
Hi, Positive Tamarind!! I am going to disagree with you here because the opinions of others aren't the answers to a mathematics question, they give insight into how others see the world.
I agree because you thought about the comfort of others , we all need to listen to others and understand the pros and cons of our opinions. Think of you having all the money in the world. STOP!! and now rethink about it, wouldn't it be nice to be able to buy all you like, but don't forget as you have all the money, others don't have and are living in poverty and can't get daily needs but you have it all in excess. But rather I would advice us to have a mindset that says "WHAT WOULD THE WORLD BE WITH US ALL BEING EQUAL AND OUR OPINIONS ALL HEARD? " or "WHAT CAN WE DO TO MAKE EVERYONE HAPPY?". Which is why I concurred with you when you said "SO NOT ONLY DO WE NEED THE RIGHT ANSWER BUT THE FAIR ANSWER" . Let us all not be self centred but selfless. This is why I envisage dialogue among all of us in global and public decision makings for the betterment of the world for each and everyone of us based on our collective opinions.
Hello, Reflective Butterfly. I'm in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, but I'm originally American. I don't agree with your statement. You argue that we don't need the right answer, but if we only collect opinions instead of pursuing correct answers, meaningful agreement becomes impossible. Common ground isn't built from endlessly stacking viewpoints; it's built by testing ideas against reality.
Some things in life do not require opinions; they require accuracy. Would you trust someone who says, "In my opinion, this would be the best surgery for you," or a doctor who says, "This is the best surgery for you," based on evidence, training, and proven results? Treating facts as interchangeable with opinions undermines expertise and decision making.
Yes, people may disagree about many things, but disagreement does not mean there is no right answer. It simply means not everyone accepts it. If everything were "just an opinion," progress in science, medicine, and engineering wouldn't exist.
So no while opinions matter in values and perspectives, truth still matters where evidence exists.
I agree with you. According to one of my friends, the truth is what you believe it is. Finding the right answer is not what will make the world a better place, but finding an answer that can change people's perspective of life for the better.
You have a really good point there.
Hi, reflective_butterfly, Looking at your point from a different angle, there could be a lot of controversies in trying to here out different people's perspectives; So I don't think there will be a need to listen to different opinions which could lead to disputes from various opposing views when we could just find the right answer to whatever the issue may be, because at the end, we will all have to come to a concluded answer.
I'm not sure about this because, all in all the fair answer might not always be the right action to take the fair answer may lead to one side or another not getting to have what it is that may truly be acceptable such as so the rise of different communities who practice inhumane activities is we all gathered together to discuss how to go about them the fair answer would probably to try and accept their customs and methods even if they include that people are bound to get hurt.
I think its more important to share opinions even if they are right or wrong because it can show other people's perspective when it comes to controversial topics.
Thanks for sharing awesome_knowledge! It is great to hear other people's perspective. But what about if that person's perspective spreads misinformation?
It is more important to hear different opinions because you can see all the different perspectives to what people think about the same topic and you can all come together to make a final decision that everyone is happy about which could be your answer.
I'm not sure about this because even though it is true that you can make a final decision that can make everyone happy about, but how would it worth if the decision is completely wrong and only making people happy in a short-term. For example, we can look at issues toward taxes. If we lower the taxes, a lot of people would be happy about it, but wouldn't that affect to the country's economy leading to some financial problems in long-term?
I disagree because just because someone shares their opinion doesn't mean that they're correct. There's nothing wrong with having a different opinion to someone else and it's important to have conversation with a variety of opinions, however, our main priority, especially when we have so many people in extremely unfortunate situations, such as war, should be to find solutions, rather than to share opinions that may not mean much to the topic or are adverse to finding solutions and would cause more harm than good
Thanks for sharing your thoughts wondrous_fox. I can tell that you have really thought about this question.
Hello wondrous_fox, I agree with you because opinions are not always helpful if they don’t lead to real solutions.
For example, in healthcare, decisions cannot be based on personal opinions. If doctors treated patients using guesses or unproven ideas, people could be harmed. Instead, doctors rely on research, testing, and evidence to choose the safest and most effective treatment. This shows that in serious situations, finding the correct answer is more important than hearing many different views.
I do think opinions can help at the beginning, like when scientists discuss ideas before testing them. But after that, facts should win, not feelings. If we keep spreading opinions that are wrong, it can confuse people and slow down real help.
So I agree with you that our main focus should be finding correct answers and real solutions. Opinions are useful, but only when they help us get closer to the truth.
True resplendent_blueberry, life is influenced by facts, especially relating them to real life situations. Opinions will not be useful when they do not solve problems. In a detective case for example, facts and evidence are crucial but opinions will not solve the case. Opinions are influenced with beliefs, emotions, assumptions and many more. In a crime case, they can lead to wrong conclusions. Detectives work with proof in order to find out the truth. Therefore, opinions are not answers to certain things.
I disagree because... you mention issues such as war, but to this I question, is there really a correct answer to such a complicated problem. Yes giving opinions doesn't make them correct, but this doesn't mean that opinions does not have any truth within them, you can always use these opinions to help you shape what you think is the correct answer by taking the different perspectives and experiences from these opinions. But even saying this, it bluntly shows that to even figure out what the correct answer could be, you must listen to other people's opinions.
I agree with you because it is not everyone that have the same mind set and you will not tell what is in the person mind whether it can help the society or not. Because you might not know where it might lead you. So we should try to look forward in hearing everyone`s opinions before putting it into practice.
I strongly disagree against your motives in regards of your answers., this is because peoples opinion leads you towards making the right decision. It cannot mislead you when you get to make wise choice in terms of scale of preference and conscience to acceptance.
Do you know that the different opinion attained from others, gives you the room to make your own decision, you can either get others opinion and back it up with your own thoughts.
For example, "In incident that took place in a Northern school"
1)At first, where is this Northern School?, Maybe I haven't been to places in Africa and my mind map direction or my mobile device isn't of help to me at the moment ,this is actually risky, but at least the direction from others and my own little knowledge from close by friends and relatives would give a great support to my locations.
2) The same way that an error is made in a computer electronically, is the way humans make mistakes that can lead to the wrong decision because we are not perfect. Your points can only help an expert but what happens to those who lack the knowledge and necessities to making the right choice always without an aid.
3) To be self reliant is good but doesn't help in all case, Imagine migrating to a different environment that look really unfamiliar to you especially during your NYSC, you can only adapt when you are open to the things around you, the people around you are the only ones to help you find a better road to any of your destination, so other peoples opinion is very important because the guides us into making our own decisions.
Hi wondrous_fox, I agree with you because people have their different views and perspectives and not everyone can accept or tolerate other people's views. Our prime concern should be finding effective solutions to the problems around us and not wasting our time trying to argue with someone who has an alternative view. However, our opinions too could be wrong so rubbing minds with others would also be a good thing to do when finding effective solutions to problems.
I disagree because we all have different answers. Maybe if you listen, you'll get a different opinion. Right or wrong, it doesn't matter. Everyone can have the same idea, which makes it boring. As you said about war, what if they don't know what to do? Then they need ideas. Different ideas are important, so we can make all the ideas a solution.
I agree with you wondrous_fox, because no one is perfect, so it doesn't guarantee that people will give the right answer too. Because not everyone views the world in the same way. But I actually agree with the fact that we should actually listen to others opinions too to also add to our knowledge, and help us see the world differently as others. If we are able to come together and find solutions and share ideas, just with time, we will be able to actually solve issues without needing a 'right answer'.
I get your point and i agree to an extent that finding solutions is important just like in cases of war. But I still think that finding other people's opinion really matters. At the same time, hearing people's opinion can help us get those right answers and solutions. Even if not every opinion is correct, they might reveal perspective we may not have thought about, or even bring better ideas just like in the same case of war you talked about.
Sometimes the right answer is easier to find when you listen to what people have to say.
True.....
If different perspectives were heard, true, it will give more insight and deeper thinking about the problem, but here's it, opinion sharing does not mean accuracy, everyone has their way of thinking though, so to say the least, as the wondrous_fox said, it may be key in a conversation, but solutions and results for dire situations and maximum productivity and deliverance can prove to be very vital to us as a global nation.
I think it's more important to hear different opinions than to find the right answer as there can be many different points of view that can also be right and it is also important to respect other people's culture.
I believe that providing truthful answers is really crucial especially when talking about something proven or at least discussed by experts with evidence.
Many people across the globe have a variety of personalities, thus we’re facing different opinions; many of these are true and based on evidences, however, others are based on some theories that aren’t proven yet.
I think it’s more important to hear different opinions than to always find the right answer, because that’s how we learn and don’t get stuck in one idea. Sometimes I think I’m right about something, but when I hear someone else’s opinion, it makes me think again. For example, when we talk about news in class, my friends notice things I didn’t even think about. That doesn’t mean there is no right answer at all, but if we only care about being correct, people might stop talking and sharing. Hearing different opinions helps us understand why people think the way they do, even if we don’t agree. I think listening first makes discussions more fair and interesting.
I partly agree with you because sometimes facts are important and people can't suggest new and creative thoughts without having prior knowledge, can they? However, opinions are also important, a discussion will be boring if it was just informative. So, I believe that a discussion should have the two in a balanced way.
Why do I agree with you?
Because opinions are the design and decoration of a conversation. They are independent and not static, so they can vary and bring interesting ideas to a discussion. If anyone said an opinion, the other will disagree\agree, which will make the discussion continuous and moving from one topic to the other.
Why do I disagree with you?
As opinions are essential but not more than facts. Without right answers, scientists won't be able to go on and carry more investigations and discoveries. If they said only opinions, no actions are going to be taken and science won't develop.
To conclude, both of them are important but still we can't live without "right" answers. Right answers are the bricks of a building that all others depend on.
Hello, your well organized and impactful opinion influenced me! I like the fact how you pointed out perspectives. I completely agree with you that it is important to hear all of various opinions from others than just persisting only right answers. I think your structures and detailed infromations including investigations(like BBC report) made a good quality and persuadable judgement.
You mentioned this already, but in my poin of view, the world had developed a lot and still keep on going forward by the idea of creativity. I don't think there's always 'right' answers but how effective that is. From collecting and reflecting with those wonderful opinions from eachother, I'm sure it could be the first step that can change our world better and be a pioneer who creates new genre.
First I agree that hearing different opinions is the best because first of all it encourages critical thinking and many topics in real-life do not have only one correct answer so I guess hearing different opinions is the best. By listening to different opinions we can get a better understanding and we can also see it from multiple perspectives which helps us to make more balanced and thoughtful decision and also hearing other peoples opinions helps them to feel more confident in speaking because if you only keep sharing your own opinion without listening to others it can create an atmosphere of fear making others loose their self-esteem.
In conclusion I will say that listening to others opinion matters a lot and we should all know that everybody`s opinion matters and we should all give them a chance to speak their mind.
Thank you for your comment! And welcome along.
I think it’s more important to know the real answer of anything. Knowing the real answer let’s us all view anything in the right way so that we could give everything it’s right and justice. For example if I said that Mohamed Salah is a bad footballer…… does that mean I’m right ? Did I give him his right as a player?
I'm not sure about this because in all our problems, there are many solutions that can be given to a problem, but the problem here is the fact that among the different solutions, there is always the one that suites majority of others. Take for example a topic in mathematics called "QUADRATIC EQUATIONS" that has about 3 methods for solving of which students are then allowed to choose the best that suits them, they all will still be able to give the correct answer, but through different routes, this is the same as life. If I were to answer your question example, I honestly would give my own perspective as him being a good or a bad footballer and not argue with others as we all have our own opinions and perspectives , like some may like him and others may not but that is who he is and how he plays, so we don't just find the right answer but a balanced answer( an answer that is right and comfortable for all). THANK YOU
Okay but this is not a choice it’s the right way of getting the real answer ……. hearing perspectives might not be the right way to get the solution of any answer. This example is not as the situation of this argument since our situation is: hearing perspectives a better choice than knowing the REAL answer? OUR ARGUMENT right now is seeing the right way of knowing the real answer of any phenomena. If I said in my opinion polar bears have white skin am I right?
I think I know understand you now. To your last question to be frank I don't know the answer to that, but now the main point is that in life, there is always an answer, but it could go either ways, I mean either positive or negative. But seeing the right way of knowing the real answer of any phenomena is based on our collective perspective, which is why I like the concept of democracy which has majority rules, minority rights and would suggest this as a method of finding the real answer. THANK YOU.
You're right. We are all entitled to our opinions, especially on controversial topics. However, there are some issues that opinions are not helpful in. For example, you cannot use opinions in the operation room. You use facts that are supported by evidence. So I think that there should be a balance between the two.
In my own point of view, this question is a dilemma for me since both of them are important and significant however they also have disadvantages in different situations.
Sharing opinions
Sharing opinions is an efficient way that involves creativity and diversity between students and employees for example, when there is a teamwork activity, the teacher divides us into groups, but he doesn't put the clever ones together in one group, yet he puts each one in one group so that other students can learn more experience and something new from the intelligent students. They can share opinions moreover the weak learns from the strong. However, there is a problem that someone in the group can say his opinion and forces others to obey him. This makes others frightened to say their own opinions. By the way, it is not a 100 percent that his opinion is right. all of us do mistakes and it is the right for anyone to say his own opinion. May be, the one who said the opinion is right.
Giving facts directly
Facts are very efficient. They tell us what is going on. they are told by experts are professional people. They help us understand and tell us what is going on. for example, if we are talking a climate change, hearing people's opinions is valuable but learning and knowing the scientific information (facts) is crucial. On the other hand, hearing a lot of facts without opinions is way more boring.
To conclude, I believe that mixing and balancing both together is the best way to begin a discussion. We can't discuss without any one of them since both of them are extremely important.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, @quickwitted_knowledge! Your example of students learning from each other in a classroom is a useful way to think about this. I would challenge you, however, on thinking of students in black and white terms such as, 'weak' and 'strong'. It's important to remember that intelligence comes in many different forms, and every student has an important and thoughtful perspective to bring to the table.
Sharing opinions oftentimes can lead to the correct answer. Throughout history, the necessary debate and discourse done by the Founding Fathers of America is what led to the creation of a stronger government from the Articles of Confederation to the U.S. Constitution that is used today. In modern times, it's very important to understand both sides of an argument to not only settle matters but also create an environment willing to listen, one built on engagement and non-judgment. Even though when it comes to conflict or pressing matters, it is important to think and act quickly, critical thinking is what prompts discussions and, ultimately, solves them.
Thanks, dazzling_solution and welcome to Topical Talk! I like how you connected a historic example like the Founding Fathers to modern times.
I agree with this comment because it clearly shows how sharing opinions can lead to stronger and more effective outcomes. The example of the Founding Fathers debating and moving from the Articles of Confederation to the U.S. Constitution is a strong piece of evidence that discussion and disagreement can improve decision-making rather than weaken it. I also agree that understanding both sides of an argument helps create an environment of listening and respect, which is essential in both historical and modern contexts.
However, I would add that while debate is important, it only works when people are open-minded and willing to question their own views. Without that, sharing opinions can turn into conflict rather than progress. This is why critical thinking and respectful engagement are just a s important as speaking up.
I think that opinions are way more marvelous. Opinions make innovation sparkle in all societies. Opinions can do unexpectable things. Did you know that most of the inventions were at first an opinion. Here are some people that invented something which inspired the world by their opinions.
This can be the most surprising thing that Steve Job's (iPhone inventor) opinion and vision led to a magnificent change in smartphones. He did not follow people, yet he created his own path.
Larry page and Sergey Brin's said that they could organize, manage and create the world's biggest search engine. Also, they said that they could do something that contains all of the world's info, information and statistics. Actually, their opinions became true, and their search engine (Google) became the most popular one and it had the best security ever.
You cannot live without Netflix, can you? Did you know it actually began as an opinion? Reed Hastings' opinion was why cannot people watch films and shows online, and they rent or borrow DVDs? He was so upset about this situation consequently he made Netflix and created happiness to everyone.
Jaap Haartsen's opinion and vision were creative. His thought was about connecting 2 devices wirelessly. Therefore, he created Bluetooth. This added a lot of technology to our life that made two devices link together.
To conclude, you may think that opinions are just only words told by someone and then forgotten but literally, they can turn into ideas and thoughts then to unbelievable inventions which can turn the world and make it full of great technology.
I think it's more important to find the right answer because if there is a tsunami some people think that it's not going to come and you believe in them you won't be prepared for the tsunami and you could lose everything just because you believed the wrong person.
Awesome Raccoon, I strongly disagree with you. Opinions don't have to be followed, your just to listen to them and decide on the best course of action.
For example, there are many ways to solve a math problem. But you only have to choose the one you think is best. Another instance is let's say you are playing a game of football (soccer) and you're with the ball inside the 18-yard box. You can then have two options.
1. Your teammate is in the center of the box calling for a cross so he can score the goal with a header.
2. You see an opening in the defence that is wide enough for you to take the shot.(Mind you, some of your other teammates are saying you should pass it while others are saying that you should take the shot.)
As you can see, there is a chance for either of these two options to result in a goal. But it's ultimately your decision to make. What you do at this juncture is to pick the alternative YOU feel is best and not anyone else. Nobody can really tell you what to do, they tell you what they feel is best for you to do.
I really like your perspective and view, In this situation yes finding out the best answer for safety is important and you have made me realize that this debate topic is completely situational. Depending on the situation opinions sometimes really matter and sometimes one sole opinion is all that matters. If a new law is being established is it better for one person to make a decision or the whole town give their thoughts before implementing the law. Your opinion can change though so you need to be sure that you believe your opinion is what you want to think and believe before sharing it.
great job have a great weekend! yes! yahoo!
I think it's more important to hear opinions and answers that are correct because while everyone has their own opinion its important to be able to build on our own ideas with others opinions and answers. Furthermore, everyone in this world is different and was raised differently in their own cultures using the traditions that may have been passed on through generations. While that is a good thing we should always be looking at ways we can improve that answer and maybe change our perspective by listening to others and answers that may make more sense. The idea is not to completely change our view but to learn about conflicts in the world and distinguish facts from just our own ideas on what may have happened. What do others say?, How does the answer differ from our own ideas? and, What could we do to help find a positive solution that can benefit everyone?
We should also focus on the source of the opinion, answer or topic so we can avoid any unnecessary comments that may have nothing to do with the problem, could potentially lead to offending others, and misleading others to a possible wrong answer. Although it is only your opinion and you're allowed to have an opinion that is unique, but listening to the context and opinions of others can lead to an even better conclusion.
I disagree that it is more important to hear opinion than answers that are correct. That's because facts provide a more OBJECTIVE view rather than the subjective opinions. Using facts in news rather than opinion would make the citizens know reality and make sure everything is said true. As if opinions spread before the real true fact is known this would create huge misunderstanding between people. I see it that such a thing would lead to huge world-wide problems. An opinion, on the other hand, is only personal bias excluding opinions supported by facts .
I think it is more important to hear different opinions, rather than just valuing answers that are correct, because, in the words of the Wizard from Wicked: For Good, “the truth [what’s correct] is just what everyone agrees on”, and what everyone agrees on and deems as correct can change. When our Founding Fathers created the Constitution, they believed they had devised a way to ensure a “correct” system for running the United States. However, as of 2026, the correct system for running the US has changed, which is why we have added 27 amendments thus far. While some things, like the color of the sky or what sound the dog makes, have definitive answers, when it comes to politics, societies, and government, what we deem “correct” can often change, and if not, it's highly likely to be debated, meaning it is not unanimously correct.
Hearing different opinions increases critical thinking and prompts new ways of thinking, fostering diverse perspectives that are crucial for creating solutions and allowing systems to adapt over time. Even when people spread misinformation, though this can be incredibly dangerous, it can lead to increased conversations, new hypotheticals, and education, as someone may not be spreading misinformation maliciously but simply because they are uninformed. If we only focus on “correct” opinions, we create a very homogenous society that thinks just one way, which isn’t conducive to change or adaptation, which is brought by diversity and new ideas.
I can see that you pasted this comment in which makes me wonder whether you used AI to write your answer. Can you convince me that it's all your own work?
I think it's more important to hear different opinions than to focus only on finding the "right" answer because opinions show us new perspectives and help us understand the world in ways that a single answer never could. News and current events are rarely black and white. For example, debates about climate change solutions or education reforms often have many possible approaches and listening to different opinions (whether from scientists, activists or young people) can inspire better decisions. As the BBC has reported, public discussions that include multiple viewpoints often lead to more creative and fair solutions.
Hearing opinions also teaches critical thinking. When we listen to different ideas, we learn to question, compare and form our own judgements rather than just accepting what someone says is "correct." Isn't it better to understand why people think differently than simply memorizing an answer?
Of course, some might argue that finding the right answer is more important, especially in situations where accuracy matters, like health advice or safety rules. While that is true, even in these cases, considering opinions can help explain why rules exist and how they affect people differently, making the "right" answer more meaningful and easier to apply in real life.
Hello, inspirational_tsunami,
I strongly agree with you because listening to different opinions can help us understand big issues better. For example, during the climate change protests, some people say we should stop using cars, while others say we should make cars cleaner. If we only listen to one opinion, we might miss better ideas that could help everyone. Also, in school debates about homework, some students think homework is too much, while others say it helps them learn. Hearing both sides helps teachers make better choices.
However, the problem is that not all opinions are based on facts. For example, during the COVID-19 pandemic, some people said that masks don’t work, even though scientists proved masks reduce the spread of the virus. If we only listen to opinions and ignore the correct information, people can get confused and make wrong choices. So, opinions are useful, but we still need true answers too.
So, do you think opinions should be more important than correct answers, or should both be equal? What do you think?
You clearly have a very well written argument, but hence the purpose of this discussion I would like to highlight some areas you may have overlooked, to deepen the discussion. Thank you!
I agree that opinions and perspective are very important, especially in discussion. But when people have mis-informed opinions and spread them, they can negatively impact people by giving them false information that they abide by. Misinformed opinions from influential figures, or people in power, have a greater reach. When leaders are involved, and biased opinions are valued above answers or facts it reaches more people hence causing more harm. Let me explain where “Answers” come into play here. If we valued facts and answers over misinformed opinions, it would promote researched opinions through encouragement and normalization. Going forward, instead of promoting opinions which are mis-informed, influential figures could share the facts with the public. Answers always have more than one conclusion, even if it varies ever so slightly. That difference can leave room for opinions to form. Leaving the public to decide on which opinions they choose based on evidence, is an ideal outcome.
To summarize, opinions shouldn’t be based on another’s influence, or overlapping opinions you hear online. This is because they can be mis-informed and lead you astray. Instead, we should promote answers, so people can build their opinions from that in order to have an informed public. Thus have true discussions which work towards solutions instead of problems.
I disagree with the idea that hearing different opinions is more important than finding the right answer. I think finding the right answer matters more, especially when we are talking about the news.
Different opinions can be interesting, but not all opinions are helpful or true. For example, if something in the news is about safety or health, listening to lots of wrong opinions could confuse people and even cause harm. In situations like that, facts and correct information are more important than just sharing what we think.
I still think people should be allowed to share their opinions, but they should be checked against evidence. If we don’t try to find the right answer, discussions can turn into arguments instead of learning. So, in my opinion, opinions are useful, but the truth should always come first.
I agree that facts and the right answers are very important, especially in news related to health and safety. However, listening to different perspectives also matters. For example, imagine you were asked to buy 2 boxes of chalk, but you misheard it as 2 boxes of salt. If you don’t listen carefully or ask others to clarify, a small misunderstanding can lead to a completely wrong result. Similarly, when we listen to different viewpoints, we understand the situation better and avoid mistakes. Listening doesn’t mean accepting every opinion as true, but it helps us think critically and reach the right answer. So, truth should always come first, but listening is an important step toward it.
A very solid point you mad here resplendent_blueberry. Especially on the part of allowing other peoples opinions to be heard, but still checking it against evidence in order to prevent discussions turn into arguments and confuse the people more.
Today we live in a world when sometimes the opinions of the majority might not be the best opinion, but decision making bodies still put their opinions into consideration neglecting the fact that what they think might not be what should be done. Having a system where the credibility of facts and information is taken seriously, unnecessary confusions and arguments wouldn't be brought up. And this way, people would still live in peace knowing that their opinions were heard and at the same time, the right decisions were made. THANK YOU.
I think it is more important to hear different opinions, rather than just valuing answers that are correct, because, in the words of the Wizard from Wicked: For Good, “the truth (i.e. what’s correct) is just what everyone agrees on”, and what everyone agrees on and deems as correct can change. If we only focus on “correct” opinions, we create a very homogenous society that thinks just one way, which isn’t conducive to change or adaptation, which is brought by diversity and new ideas.
Opinions are what shape the world as we know it. It is a cognitive, emotional, and social human process that is a part of almost all our daily lives. It is vital that none of us, especially as youth, get caught up on the idea of just being "right" or "wrong." Just like a math problem, there is always more than one way to solve it. While we each may have differing opinions as represented on this platform, our minds could also be changed when attentively listening to another person.
Consider, for example, amending the Constitution. It is a process that takes consensus amongst many representatives and senators before a change can be officially made. It is known to be a lengthy process, ranging from multiple months to years because everyone's opinions must be heard rather than only focusing on the broad concept of what is the "correct" answer.
I disagree, I believe that it is more important to find the right answer than to hear different opinions. While that is not to say efforts shouldn't be made to find diverse perspectives, there often comes a point that hearing so many opinions result more in compromising with an unaffected party than reaching an informed solution for those being truly impacted. In an era where information is readily available, and people are more connected than ever in human history- it can be easy to find a million different opinions about seemingly an unambiguous topic. Of all of the proposed answers, realistically how many of these sources have the knowledge or experience to give a non "copy and paste" justification?
While the "right answer" may be subjective, it is meaningless to constantly seek out opinions and indulge in "well here's my two cents..." if we ignore those at the core being impacted and those who can meaningfully contribute to the discussion. If the goal is to help, then the priority should be exploring enough possibilities to work out what the best solution will be.
I agree because lots of people have different opinions and I think its good to hear from different perspectives then if we listen to them all we can find the right one that we agree with. I also think its good to listen to all the different anwers
I think it's more important to hear different opinions because humans are, inherently, imperfect. Our imperfections are what differentiate us from each other. Problem is, when you want to find an objectively correct answer, these imperfections make that impossible without that answer enduring fire and criticism from all sides and angles. A truly correct answer would be so discussed that it is unilaterally agreed upon among almost everybody. Now, an important distinction to make is that humans will always oppose each other but finding objective facts is possible, somebody NOT agreeing with those facts is also possible. So, again, there's always a degree of probability when it comes to these things. An example to illustrate this point are 'Hilbert's problems' created by mathematician, David Hilbert. Hilbert created 23 mathematical problems, some of them deemed impossible to solve, others are deemed 'solved' but only when you interpret the problems in a specific way while some are completely and utterly cracked. Now, as you can see, each one of these problems was discussed among mathematicians until they came up with answers to some. The actual math is too hard for me but the point still stands. Different opinions refine the correct truth if a correct truth ever comes to be. There's also the social side. Hearing different viewpoints that you don't agree with fosters a sense of community and empathy within people. If we always have a right answer, we may create echo chambers or accept overtly simplified analyses of subject matter which deserves more attention.
I agree with this because in today’s world I believe it is more important to hear different perspectives rather than just one answer. When we listen to other people’s thoughts and ideas, we don’t just understand them better we can improve our own ideas as well. By combining different viewpoints, an idea can become stronger and more meaningful than it was before.
I think its not really important to have different opinions because you can be mislead for instance you have 500 naira and you need to get something that has food, water and drug for a cow and you 've thought of it you can get one slice of water melon but when you asked they were like share the money and buy it separately which if you do it wont be enough so it misleads someone's thought.
I definitely see your point. Letting someone influence your actions can have serious consequences. However, I think we should all try to learn to change our opinion only if we have been presented with valid arguments and sufficient examples. I know that once someone has whispered an idea in my ear, it slowly makes its way all over my thoughts, overshadowing whatever beliefs I might have had in the first place. A lot of the time when I am met with a new perspective, which is completely different from mine, instinct takes over. I try to deny it out loud or in my head. Somehow, it pops in my mind later on. I chew on it. I've noticed that the more I allow it to live rent free in my head, the more it starts taking over and influencing my judgement. That's why I do my best to take into consideration every single aspect that links to the new idea, before forming an opinion or changing my old one.
For example, I used to think that a certain shoe brand made products that were not my style, although they were pretty popular among my friends. However, I kept on seeing the shoes everywhere: at the park, at school, on the bus. I got so used to seeing them around, that I started to slowly like them. Little by little, it built up, because I hadn't sat down to try to learn why, exactly, I hadn't been so fond of them in the first place. Then, one day while I was shopping for shoes, I bought that exact brand. All of a sudden, they didn't seem so bad. Now, thinking about it, I should've thought about what I liked and disliked about them and why much earlier on.
I disagree because that is just one person's opinion. You ask for opinions and THEN pick the best one. You may not agree with everyone's opinion and you have that right. It is your choice to do what you were advised to do or the advice you feel is best.
I strongly agree that
we need to listen to hear different opinions before we get the right on.
here are my 5 strong opinions
1. When we listen to other people we gain more opinions not only opinions but strategies that you would have never taught of
2.when we hear different opinions from people it encourages group work in the society and at the nation at large.
3.it brings about debates which helps children to reason and think outside the box
4.No one knows nothing it may just be lack of experience or lack of understanding about the particular topic that is being talked about
5.when we say we listen to other views before we choose the right one we mean that if you only listen to yourself and not listening to others you might not get the target or objective of that day
I believe that with the aid of this my five opinions or sayings you will agree with me that it is more important to hear different opinions before finding the right answer.
I agree that that it's important to hear different opinions than quickly finding the right answer because opinions helps us to see the different sides of the same story. Some people believe that finding the right answer is important to stop harm early, and I understand that point of view. But, when we listen to these opinions, we understand the situation better instead of judging too fast. However, a recent news article in my city states that a man was publicly accused in a viral video before the truth was verified and before any proper investigation could happen, the people after watching the video decided that he was guilty. This incident shows the danger when opinions spread faster than facts. Unlike courts, the internet does not wait for evidence or investigation, and the damages caused by viral opinions can't be taken back. So listening to different opinions is important but only when we think critically and respect the truth.
I agree with this statement because if you don't hear different perspectives you will never find an answer that suits our diverse world. In my opinion I would listen to opinions and understand different peoples perspectives so you can figure out what is the most practical and will benefit the most people. The right answer for one person will most likely not be the right answer for another person. That is why we have conversations like these where people can share their opinion on important things that impact them. One person cannot predict the impact on another person that is the beauty of democracy and communication-you can help make choices that have an impact on you or the people around you and make this world a better fair place for all of us! Thank you to the Economist for setting up this program so me and others can feel heard, respected and we can make fair choices together!
Hi, I think young people (ages 12-16) should get access to political subjects like voting and reporting ,as everyone can have ideas. So I think there should be more websites that are actually looked at by the government.
Please could you explain why you think young people of those ages should be able to vote?
I believe where you come from, and some twelve year old students really are smart anough to vote, but I dont really agree, and I say that for multiple reasons:
Firstly, people between 12 and 18 are easier to manipulate and dont have the same education and mental abilities. The brain does not fully develop until about 21, and grown adults, let alone children, dont have the same critical thinking skills and access the enough education to be rational enough to be able to influence a country.
If children from twelve years old up are allowed to vote, politicians will base their campaigns on even more manipulative and misleading content. Not to mention, many will just vote for whomever their parents support.
Allowing children to vote will simply mean adding more easily swayable voters to the voter pool and election results will become even more extremist, as extremist candidates and parties base their campaigns on exploiting human biases and prejudice, like scapegoats and misinformation.
You introduce some interesting points in your comment, highspirited_dragonfly. Do you think young people, if they were taught how to think critically, would be less vulnerable to manipulation? What do you think young people would need in order not to become victims of campaigns which try to exploit them?
In general, im inclined to say yes to your first question. However, children are largely controlled by parents, especially when young.
If they are allowed to vote, there will be an incentive for parents to convince their children to side with one political party or the other. This does not happen right now because parents know that no matter how much they try, most likely, their children will start thinking for themselves by 18(and they wont vote until then), so the effort is not worth it.
However, if children are allowed to vote from 12, many of them will not have developed the critical thinking skills necessary to disregard what their parents have said for so many years. Almost everyone will want to have another person voting for what you, as a parent, think is right. So, from young ages, knowing you will have a few years where your child will probably vote for what you tell them to, you (as anyone else) will try to convince them to vote for whoever you tell them to, and young children are inclined to do what their parents tell them to.
So, if kids are allowed to vote, then we will not see an increase in the amount of authentic contributions to discussions, we will see parents making their children vote for whatever the parents think is right. This is no longer democracy, as a large portion of the voters wouldnt really be voters, but duplicates of voters. Thus, a demographic is inflated and representation is no longer fair, as parents are represented not by how many parents there are, but by how many children they have. This would be extremely unfair to everyone else.
It is more important to hear different opinions than to find the right answer.
I agree because without hearing different opinions then you can’t even have an opposing debate. Also you don’t know what’s happening in their state or country. Say Donald Trumps immediate negotiations' to acquire Greenland for an example, you can’t just come on to topical talk and say I’m right you’re wrong if you don’t know their opinion and views on the topic. So yes, I think you need to hear the other person’s perspective before you go and tell them yours. We don’t need the right answer we need different perspectives and views because your opinion or view could change after you hear the impact of something that has happened to someone else or someone else has witnessed. So we don’t need the right answer but the fair answer.
It is important to hear different opinions as sometimes there is no right answers just a different view on something. This happens a lot in the world, take the war between Russia and Ukraine some may say it is Russia fault even though in both sides of the war innocent people are dying. A lot of the time there is no right answer but a different lens of a matter.
This question is intelligent and requires critical and deep thinking. From my point of view, I think that both of them are important and a powerful discussion can't be held without any of them. Because literally I'm thinking of them as a picture colored with vibrant colors. The drawing itself is not going to look attractive and appealing without colors, would it? Imagine with me that there is a drawing without coloring, will it hook you attention and curiosity? In the same time, we can't use the colors alone to paint the blank page. This is the same with a discussion, if only pure facts are included, there will be no debate, no points of view and this will lead to an empty discussion. However, if opinions and different perspectives were added, it will sound more vivid. Even in science investigations and experiments, there is a part called "Prediction", they fill this question before knowing the results, they say, I "think" ...
However, facts are also essential. Without facts, opinions will not be formed. Not only that, but also people are going to be ignorant if they don't learn facts. They are the threads of truth in life, and they help in ALL the fields even art! Facts don't depend on another thing to see if it is true or not but opinions do.
Good comment. Do you feel facts or sometimes opinions are more important in certain situations?
From my point of view, I think that as situations differ, the need for an opinion of fact differs. For example, in fields like medicine, I think it not preferred to know others' opinions because at the end, doctors will follow the "static" facts. However, they can listen to others but MUST make sure from them using again the "static" facts. So, in both conditions facts are the foundation and opinions here are pointless. Also in law, a policeman can't say that a robber for example looks kind. In this case, he will not rely on his feelings and guesses but on the proof. I know that others may disagree with me because opinions have already played a crucial in life development. In science, Democritus first proposed the idea (and it was a thought) of the cell before knowing even it was totally true or not. Still, I agree with them but I want to highlight on the information that not all people are like Democritus. As he thought of that idea from a scientific perspective not randomly like some of the people.
However, opinions can be really important. Some other cases like art, education and community, opinions shape the conversation.
In art, opinions are the main subject as the idea of a creative drawing can't be decided according to facts. Even in school, we have a discussion in every lesson sharing our thoughts on a specific topic. Finally, in building a fair and strong community, opinions are important, as the person responsible for the whole community will not be able to take decisions to make everyone happy.
Hearing opinions is more important then to hear answers that are correct, I say this because to be able to answer a question with a "correct" answer, this would more than likely make that question a simple question, but what if someone ask a question that does not necessarily have a "correct" answer? This is where hearing other people opinions on the issue matters, problems such as wars, climate change, philosophically ideas, complicated things that does not have a straight forward answer. Even small question, such as "what is the best movie" does not have a "correct" answer, but if you are willing to listen to other people opinions, even though you may not agree, you would likely be able to learn a lot of things about movies that you may have never thought about and maybe even changing you answer for the best movie. Us as human beings, a species who are well know for being social, we communicate and listen which is what made us be able to adapt and progress much quicker than most species, lets not forget this skill and only listen to the "correct" answer.
Good comment. You quoted some amazing questions which certainly amplify your point of view point.
I think it's more important to hear different opinions than to find the right answer because hearing other people say different things about a common topic can make me see different perspectives that I may or may not heard about. Having different opinions is like hearing almost the same story but from another view for example like the tale of the "Little Red Riding Hood" but instead of being from the girls side it could be from the wolf's side of the story. Maybe my example isn't the best but I hope I made my opinion stand out from the crowd.
I think it's more important to hear different opinions than to find the right answer, because what might sound truthful to some, will make almost no sense to others. That happens when people who come from different backgrounds try to explain how to do something, marking it or advertising it as "the best way". To me, it seems a bit similar to the "cereal before milk, or milk before cereal" debate, where for some reason, certain people find it hard to acknowledge that there is another right way of eating your breakfast, except for theirs. From my point of view, it doesn't matter which way you do it, as long as you get to enjoy the food. This, although a relatively small issue, can grow to become so much more harmful, especially when people get used to constantly feeling that they and only they are in the right.
Another example could occur during an election. By that, I mean people strongly believing that their vote is the only way to go and maybe using offensive language or even violence towards others.
Since this is not something we should uphold any longer as a society, one way to fix it could be by doing our best to try to listen to as many diverse opinions from as many people as possible and contemplate their validity. Opinions are relative and most certainly not facts.
I think the statement is not about two mutually exclusive things, but about the right answer and something that often leads to the right answer, however difficult it may be.
In my opinion, the reasons we even have debates and discussions is, firstly, to reach a consensus and find a solution.
Secondly, i think we engage in debates and discussions because we are social beings and they satisfy our need for social interactions.
So, they serve two functions: firstly, finding the closest thing to a right answer we can get to, and secondly, entertainment and socialization.
However, it's not all sunshine and rainbows. The more people have a say in the conversation, the more likely it is that someone will manipulate everyone else. In fact, this is the main problem that athenian philosophers had with democracy. Fortunately, this is not an essay against democracy, and rightfully so, as this problem can easily be fixed with the right education.
Conduct it well, and a debate will take you to the solution. Conduct it poorly, and it turns into a breeding ground for extremism and hate.
Finding the right answer, however, will circumvent the need for additional debate and, therefore, take away an important social interaction between people. It means practicality over human interaction.
After all, from a utilitarian standpoint, we have to choose between pleasure from practicality and pleasure from interaction.
In the end, we do, however, have to consider whether or not its even likely to be the right answer. Do we even know if we're right if we dont hear everyone out?
I really like how you point out the risks and the value of debating, even when the stakes aren’t huge. It made me wonder: do you think the process of hearing different especially more extremist or isolating views can sometimes lead further away than landing on the “right” answer? Because more opinions can change both how we understand each other and our own thoughts
Hearing people's suggestions or opinions is more important than looking for correct answers because sharing ideas and putting them together is what makes progress. In the society today if we are only looking for correct answers and not sharing ideas we would end up not achieving anything because you feel like this persons view is not good. Development in countries did not occur with just correct answers but rather it is different people's perspective.
You have made an interesting point here, do you think you could give some examples of when we could share ideas as a society and why this would be important?
For example if there is scarcity of water in a certain community, and the local government says that the only place that the community would be able to get water is in a very far away place and it takes hours. You now decide to come up with an idea of building a well, someone else with a similar idea says we build a dam, every body is now looking for solutions of having water close to their community. If the local government is a type that does not try to listen to peoples view the whole community would have been going to far away places as the only source of water that the local government found, so that is why it is important because when people give their own ideas different solutions can be derived and it usually brings progress and development when their ideas are put together.
I think this question doesn’t always have one correct answer; it really depends on the situation. In subjects like history or science, getting the facts right is important because there is a correct answer. But for questions like ‘What is the best food in the world?’, there isn’t one right answer since everyone’s choices depend on their culture, memories, and personal taste. That’s why, in such cases, listening to different perspectives matters more than proving one answer right. some questions seek facts, while others seek understanding.”
Good and well thought comment.
Well written comment and I fully agree, but as I was reading something threw me off, and I decided to AI check it, and it came out to 100% AI. this festival is a houner to be a part of and everyone here is super nice so i think it is not respectfull when people don't obey their laws and create a AI comment. Please take this into acount as if you are using AI, you should think about how you are disrespecting this festival.
First I thank smart snow for taking time to read my comment and I have to say that I full accept and follow the rules of this topical talk festival. While I was reading your reply, I also checked my comment in ai checkers like zero GPT grammarly and quill bot . Quillbot said it was AI written but, zero GPT and grammarly said it was 100% human written. So, this shows that AI checkers or not completely reliable for comments especially for small ones.
I disagree because correctness comes first, but opinions still matter and there serve different purposes reason been that:
1) correct answers are essential because they ground a discussion to reality. without shared facts, conversation about the news can slide into confusion, misinformation and manipulation which means that facts help us understand what actually happened.
2) opinions, which are important because they help us explore what it means. They reflect on values, priorities and lived experiences, opinion can highlight impacts which fact alone can not capture especially in social or political issues.
so therefore the healthiest discussion of this news usually have both: fact as the foundation, opinion as the interpretation which means that without facts, opinions mislead and without opinions facts feel incomplete.
I feel like its more important to hear different opinions. I feel this way because you can see others perspectives and it could change your opinion
Can you explain in more detail how it can change people's opinions?
this could change you opinion by comparing it with others
As this idea has a lot of advantages, it also have some disadvantages. Here are some examples of both:
Advantages: Listening to different opinions helps us understand new ideas, think more critically and work well with others.
Disadvantages: Too many opinions can waste time, cause confusion and lead to wrong ideas.
However, I agree with this idea but in certain cases, such as only considering opinions from people close to you or whom you trust.

I totally agree that sharing opinions is very important for discussing the news because you might not know what others are thinking and even if you get the answer wrong you could see why you were wrong. Hearing others opinions is just as important as your own opinion. But the opinions vary because some people can spread misinformation so that is why we should also consider not taking some of the misinformation. Overall I agree that opinions from others are great but also we shouldn't listen to false information.
To me personally I think if we all share our opinions we may find multiple answer because if we share out our thought others may find away to either reshape it or agree with it, our everyday life has different opinions about different things and the more we discuss the more our minds get open to other people's perspective. No one is perfect we all learn from each other.
I feel it is more important to hear out different opinions, because an answer to someone or a group of people, may be seen as offensive to another person or another group of people(based on their different values); so hearing out different opinions helps in acknowledging the presence of other people's ideas which would not allow room for discrimination of any form and also letting different people share their different perspectives which one may never have thought about.Just the same way we are sharing our different point of views on this particular topic.
I disagree with the post because I believe it is more important to find the right answer because not everyone's perspective is right. Many people may decide to listen to opinions that may not in any way be useful to them. It may be best to know that the right thing is always right even without changing over time but opinions change over time. The right thing will never change no matter what anyone believes or says.
I disagree because with out others opinion there is is highly a chance of everybody not agreeing on particular solution reason being that
1. what if the solution being given by you was a wrong ideas and that of your mates were correct and what you thought was right would be then given as a solution and everything end up worst, hearing others opinion helps you realize the truth
I believe it's good to hear everyone's point of view. Because when we hear other people's opinions and views, we can learn from them and also get to know about other people's views and beliefs and maybe a story of what someone might have encountered in a similar case. But on the other hand if we hear everyone's point of view and they are all wrong, we have not gained anything because many wrongs don't make a right .
But I believe that it will be better to hear people's perspectives and also know the correct answers.
Hello!
I think it's most important to hear the answers because it's the only way to solve the issue which opinions don't do. A key is needed to open a lock, similarly a fair answer is needed to solve a problem. It's impossible to take a proper decision with just perspectives and opinions and that will also face many consequences. For example, when people with fame like celebrities and political leaders express their personal opinion, there fan base often follows them blindly without knowing it's right or wrong. This kind of influence can mislead society and suppress Independent thinking. When opinions get louder than answers, people stop thinking and that is when a problem becomes unsolvable.Opinions can start discussions, but only answers can end problems. Real progress begins when decisions are based on facts, not fame.
I agree with this statement because it doesn't matter if we get it wrong. EVERYONE GETS IT WRONG. But, we need to know if there is a right answer. Different people, different cultures and different styles is important because everyone has a different perspective. Listening to on another is beneficial to understand different views. Also, on Topical Talk, there are people from different countries, so different experiences and answers.
Yes, I would say even though I'm focused on the suggestion that we should hear different opinions rather than find a 'right' answer, I believe it's important to hear different opinions than find a 'right answer' because we often come to more robust understanding of the truth by hearing diverse opinions. This is particularly the case in the news. The 'right answer' is often temporary or dependent upon people's backgrounds and values. In prioritizing hearing diverse opinions, I feel we achieve a few key goals:
First, we minimize dogma and echo chambers. If we're focused on hearing the answer we think is right, we're not opening ourselves up to learning and thinking critically. Diverse opinions force us to defend our stance against other opinions.
Second, we recognize that many newsworthy 'puzzles' are not easily-solved puzzles. Climate policy and international relations for example. These are complicated issues. The right answer might be a combination of what opposing sides have said.
Third, by hearing diverse opinions, we're helping our society. Exchanging opinions with one another respectfully leads to all of us to consider why people think the way they do.
So, finding correct answers is significant and we need to check the facts of any newsworthy debate. But the meaning and implication of the facts are suggested by us as we exchange opinions with one another. Thus, I don't agree that we should seek out a 'right answer' rather than exchange a variety of opinions. It's through these processes that we get to more bulletproof answers in the end.
I agree that it's important to hear different opinions rather than to hurry into quick decisions, at least when it comes to the young people. Many decisions are made before one fully understands the situation. I also see this clearly with my friends facing peer pressure. When someone chooses to puruse a different carrer, hobby or study patterns, opinions often form fast, they quickly get labelled as "not serious" or "won't succed". Simply because they chose a different path.
Some people might argue that students who respond quickly are often seen as confident and capable and I understand it. However, I disagree because those quick decisions are made with limited information. If we are able to understand the different views based on someone's personal goals, family situation, mental health struggles, our understanding changes. This shows that listening is not about delaying the answer, but obtaining a better one. For the younger generation, listening to various opinions aids in minimizing unfair judgements and peer pressure.
Can you explain more on what you mean by people being labelled as "not serious"?
I believe that this statement is false. Many have made good points on why perspectives matter. However, developing a perspective without knowing the facts basically means that you are making assumptions based only on your own views. In other words — it’s bias. Your opinions should be formed based on facts, and proof rather than what others tell you is correct. Even so, people can look at the same set of facts and reach different conclusions. Often, there isn’t one correct answer, there’s multiple. When discussion is based on facts, get the diversity and the voices you need to have multiple perspectives, and thus can consider all sides which is the ideal situation. If the opposite were true, you would hear many different opinions despite many being false, it can lead you astray from a solution to help the many based on factual info.
As a conclusion, I believe the correct answer matters above perspectives, because perspectives should come after the answer. Once that happens you can ensure each opinion is based on info you know is true, and this can work together to find instead of a “correct answer”, one that benefits those in need and target minorities.
Both are kind of equally important. while coming up with a end answer or finding a consensus is important, People sharing their opinions matters just as much. People's opinions, thoughts, ideas could shape other peoples minds, or even change people's perspective. I think of peoples opinions like 'jelly' and when you give your own opinion it could mold their own mind and give their 'jelly' a new shape. After people share their opinions we could combine them into one general idea that everyone some what agrees upon. To me its not really about changing the answer, its about changing people's minds.
I Think it is more important to hear correct answers, opinions are important as well though, because they are a way of having a look at different view points, but correct answers can help to inform people about certain topics, and I think that correct information must be shared and can be more useful, because if you are informed, you have the capacity to, for example, help others. And also when you spread correct information, with that information as a base, you can create a reasonable opinion. Knowledge is Power and I think that misinformation could be dangerous.
I think that is important to share opinions with someone, because you can have differents points of view about one topic, also, because if you close your mouth and you save this opinions to you, the people that surronds you they will think that all things dosent matter for you and you dosent care and maybe, thats not true or maybe, yes but you need to express your opinion to all thing not only in topics like the news but for example to things that you like and you dont like.
Finally, express your opinion is a very important factor in our lives and is more important to hear opinions that to hear correct answers because some times the opinion of one person is not the one that you want to hear. Instead if you only hear correct answers you think that all that you do is the best option.
I agree with the statement of listening to opinions. Trying to find correct answer without considering other viewpoints or perspectives might just be impossible. Opinions can help us see things in a way we never did. We should discuss opinions that can lead to finding the right answer needed. By just listening and understanding other people's opinions can prevent conflicts, arguments and even wars. So, I think listening to opinions is important.
I agree,
we don't need a straight forward answer sometimes we just need facts or opinions
for example
they is a case in the court of law based on the bank robbery. The judge cannot go blaming someone he must get sufficient fact and evidence before completing the judgement.
sometimes if we rely on answers and don't get the solution if another one strikes how do we solve them ?
think ? do not just go forward to the answer brainstorm on it
I strongly agree that it is important to here different opinions than the answer
thanks topical talk
I believe it's important to hear different opinions because we need to understand how it may affect other people in different ways .Also,it helps you understand other people's beliefs even if its different from yours.Another thing is we should try to find an answer everyone can agree on decide that's it's fair.Lastly,it can help you grow as a person because your able to understand you opinion and others. To conclude, this is why I believe its important to hear different opinions.
I say it varies on the type of question being asked, the mindset of the individuals involved and the general perspective.
If the whole conversation finds the right answer, it will not be wrong but maybe perhaps someone will not find a solid reason for it to be right, like someone said, it is not a Mathematics question, but a conversation.
Now if people do have perspectives to share, it will enhance background reason for the decision and probably less questioning, but a downside to this is how genuine other people's expressions are. Definitely people see the world differently, but that's it!, insights are there! Everyone can see people's expressions differently, maybe making it a bigger questionnaire or confusion maker or peace settler, just depends on the situation.
What do you think?!
I am in strong agreement with hearing different opinions rather than receiving a right answer.
In times of panic and confusion, the main factor that prolongs this situation is simply misunderstanding. The press is the fastest way of informing the global community on urgent situations, and sharing opinions on the press helps people to see the situation from different angles, and also allows individuals to wear others shoes, despite not being in the same struggle as others. This small act can go a long way in allowing peace to reign. I can agree that not all opinions are helpful, but all opinions are relevant in spreading understanding to people who might be confused. The "right" answer really only informs us, it does not solve any problem.
Using an instance of geopolitical conflict as an example, the right answer, would maybe tell us about the long running conflicts that has been going on between the countries, but the opinions of people living in those regions will help others to understand the underlying condition.
In conclusion, I believe that it is more important for opinions to be shared, as it helps promote understanding globally.
THANKYOU.
I think its due time to talk about the most argued point among youths today which is "grades vs mental health"
I strongly believe that as far as its important to get good grades, ones mental health should also be put highly into consideration.
To me, there are many importance of getting good grades like open doors to opportunities, etc but above this mental health is a fundamental aspect of every human activity because it controls ones ability to face difficult life challenges like anxiety, depression etc
However, in my own perspective, mental health also helps one manage their emotions also towards their grades because once one is able to control their mental health, they can also find solutions to their academic problems .
Moreover, our focus should not only be on academic grades, but also the ability to control their over-all well being.
What do you think about this?
I think it is best we hear different opinions of different people rather than going straight for the answer. Each person's perspective is shaped by their background knowledge and experience. when you only chase the answer, you might miss other important consideration that others might see.
both are very important, both left to me, i think that we should be focused on finding the right answer. most would want to have their ideas and opinions shared but if we are to make actual impact we must look for the truth. you can't use opinions when judging a case. you can't use them when building a house. you can't use them when cooking. opinions show us the view of others but they do not show us how the world really is. going for the truth is what makes us research and explore, come together to get different ideas that will lead us to the right answer and so many other things. once we can settle that this is how this is, we can start hearing from others about their views and opinions. to settle for perspectives rather than looking for the right answers would be to choose to live in one's fantasy where everything works for them rather than to "wake up to reality".(Madara Uchiha)
I believe it is very important to listen to everyone's perspectives and ideas regardless of whether they are correct or not because everyone's opinions should be considered equally, as we all think and reason in different ways. In addition, in some situations we can build on each other's ideas to then find the correct answer as a group.
I believe that it is more important to have the correct answer. Yes, having an assortment of opinions and thoughts is meaningful to engage in discussion and hear what others think but in the end, if none of the answers are right, it leads us nowhere. Sometimes, we need to prioritize finding what works in dire situations like war, famine, or any major issue. By having the right answer, we know what to do in order to save people. When we have many different opinions, there are many chances of misinformation that can ruin someone's life.
In my opinion, I believe that it's more important to hear different young people's views and opinions rather than just being given " correct" answers. I think this is crucial for us young people to be able to express how we feel about different things and feeling heard. By being able to share our opinions, it means adults get to hear and understand how a majority of different young people experience the world from different is and all have different morals .
In my opinion, sharing opinions is more important because it helps people to connect. Also it allows people to express their feeling and their point of views. It helps them to explain to people their opinion. Facts are important, but without opinions discussions become cold and disconnected. When people share their opinions, it creates dialogue and awareness and this can lead to real change in how people think and act.
I agree with this statement because an argument does not mean that I have to shout and say that my opinion is right. No, that is not a normal argument at all. An argument means that I say my opinion in a calm voice, and when I finish talking, you say your opinion. I have to listen to you until the end and I shouldn’t interrupt you at all. Then, we have a discussion to convince each other of our opinions. You try to convince me, and I try to convince you. If we still don’t agree, that’s okay. I have to respect your opinion. This is important because it helps us understand each other better.
I think it's important to hear opinions. It helps us see how other people view the news, and not just from our own perspective. Listening to others can help us discover solutions that we didn't even consider. This world is shaped by different opinions, thoughts, and perspective, not just answers that we believe are correct. Just because we think someone else's opinion is wrong doesn't mean ours is right, and just because we find their opinions and idea silly doesn't mean ours is better than theirs. Here is an example: just because someone likes the color blue and we don't, it doesn't mean that blue is an ugly color, it just means we have different opinions. Similarly, when someone says that opinions doesn't matter and correct answers matter more. It doesn't mean they're wrong and I am right. It only shows that we view things differently.
i would rather say that it is important to listen to the opinion of others, human beings have different ideas so it is rather best to say that every one has a different idea on a topic, for example all of us here in the "TOPICAL TALK" have our own ideas and opinions when being asked question or having a debate, so it is better to the ideas and opinions of others.
I feel like it is more important to hear different opinions. Yes, the point of seeking different opinions is to find a right answer that is suitable for you, but what about others? We should be more interested in listening to other people's opinions because then you can know the actual answer to a problem and not just what would benefit you. What might seem right to you might seem wrong to another so having a slight clue about other people's perspective and putting them together to form something suitable for everyone would do right to everyone.
I believe it is more important to listen to opinions than be right. I feel so because it widens out perspective. One thing I believe is that we learn now things everyday, probably even about ourselves.
There was once a conversation I had with my teacher about methods of reading as a student. There's the listening in class method, reading on your own or even summarising. Then, I was having issues reading so I tried out all three and it turned out I just had to summarise.
I am not trying to say being right isn't good but, you could try ten different methods from ten different opinions and see which works best and probably give out the opinions to different people. Also, hearing different opinions allows you consider areas you have never considered before you know, view things from a different point of view.
I think its more important to hear opinions because everyone sees life and life-concepts in different perspectives. The way you see something may not be the way someone else sees it. When you open up to listen to the opinions of others concerning a particular topic, you begin to realise that there's more than one way to put it, you begin to see from another point of view and understand it in another way. Answers are vital and straight-forward but listening to opinions can be more helpful because it helps us as individuals to share ideas and to understand what each of us are thinking, rather than being focused on one part and direction.
It is necessary to hear what others have to say because considering multiple frame of referance or stand point allows you identify possible issues and opportunities that might have slipped through people recognition. Also we should allow our minds to listen to different ideas, which will open the mind and strechen the mind widely .
We should learn and show others that understanding where people are coming from bulid up connection and diminish conflict.
Because not hearing what others have to say will lead disgreement on alot of things which may lead to conflict, lack of diverse perspectives and damaged relationships.
There are many discussions where there are no correct answers to it, sharing opinions is part of our nature as humans, we are social beings, we have to communicate with one and another---we have to listen to other people first before reaching a conclusion alone. We have to form our thoughts together, find what best for us, reach a solution that benifits everyone, not just a certain group of people. Having other people means we can join together to form ideas that we may have never even thought about by ourselves.
I think it is more important to hear other opinions because if people share ideas we can solve problems faster and easier so I think that we should listen to other people's opinions and also enterprising_avocado you do not all ways have to do things alone because when we work together we build bonds even if it is for a short time. Thank you for your time.
this is fair minded elephant from India. I think it's more important to hear different opinions because correct answers end a conversation. For example, your teacher asks a question, you tell the correct answer your teacher will say good job but if you share your own opinion, you can learn more and keep the conversation alive. In the news a fact is something that is universally agreed and it is a finished product, but an opinion is where different people share facts based on their own experiences like in the student hub so yeah while correct answers might seem good, opinions is what makes the news interesting. This is my perspective.
signing off: fair minded elephant.
While I believe hearing both is important, I believe that we need to hear the correct answers first and opinions second. By hearing the correct answers first, we know what is right, and then we can see other people's perspective without any confusion or bias. If we hear the opinion first then the correct answers second, then we tend to believe that the opinion we heard first is the fact and leads them to have a bias. After we hear the correct answer first, we can see other people's perspective and know what is right and wrong.
I think it's more important to hear others perspective because I believe that listening to multiple point of views is more important than finding an immediate answer because many of today's problems are extremely complicated and cannot be understood merely from a single point of view. A prime example of this would be "Artificial Intelligence". There exists many varying perspectives regarding ai. Some may believe that it'll essentially replace jobs and that humans will be unemployed, while the others may believe that it may bring endless number of opportunities for the future. Accepting one side of the argument over the other before understanding the issue thoroughly may lead one to misinterpret the issue itself. Nowadays, most of the school and college children fear and have concerns about their jobs disappearing soon, as the result of the extreme opinions displayed by those around them about AI. However, when experts from various domains such as tech, economics and eduction comes together, we gain a more profound insight. Their conclusion reveals that AI is not here to earse jobs but to reshape them. Nearly 60% of the jobs we see today will evolve with the help of AI and not vanish.(Source: McKinsey Global Institute). This is a reflection of how valuable different opinions are when determining the solution to any problem. So in the end, instead of hurrying to a conclusion, we must consistently seek to get the best answer for the problem based on a comprehensive understanding of all the factors involved, and to do this, we must be flexible to all the ideas and opinions
I wholeheartedly believe that we should prioritize getting different answers over a correct answer. Many complex societal issues such as war do not have a clear cut answer because they are inherently subject to personal view and opinion which cannot be confirmed nor denied. Additionally, this strengthens an eventual 'correct' answer if a correct answer ever comes to be. There's also the fact that listening to different opinions invites a sense of community and brotherhood between people even if you don't agree with them. A strengthened answer which had to endure rapid-fire arguments from all sides is going to be better than an answer with no thought. This also prevents echo chambers which constantly reaffirm your own opinion instead of taking you out of your comfort zone of making you explore different solutions.
I disagree with this statement because for sure not all the opinions are correct and that
This harms generation after generation. When someone gives their opinion and another person believes it, they will tell that opinion to someone else, and so the opinion will start to spread, even if it's a lie. Lies will spread among people, and that's truly bad.
I disagree with this statement because, you don't always have to be right. Yes, it is preferable but "To err is human" which is why some opinions can and will be wrong.
You are not meant to just judge based on someones perspectives, you judge(the opinion) using your own morals too. So if the opinion turns out wrong, you could correct yourself and the person who suggested it.
Also you stated that "This harms generation after generation" and it is a bit inaccurate. I say this because, there is space for correction. Like I said earlier, judge by your morals and if it eventually turns out wrong, there is always space for correction and improvement.
Thank you.
I disagree because most times opinions are biased and not neutral but we still need to discuss others opinions and perspective. In general, the news from trusted media has to be neutral so the audience can make their own conclusions. Hence that's why sharing opinions is good but it's more important for us to hear answers that are true but also not keep our ears completely shut from another point of view.
I think that sharing opinions is more important than just trying to find the correct answer. Our society always asks us to give them the most accurate answer, statistics and data. But I believe humans can actually work better when we share our perspectives and different ideas regardless of whether it is statistically accurate or not.
Looking for different perspectives can often lead to the correct or the most popular answer. Also, you can connect with different people more easily since when someone listens to your ideas even though they have a different perspective you automatically feel more respect and positivity towards that person.
Using Apple as an example, when Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak was making the company Apple. They looked at the idea of changing the way computers were used by people in their own perspectives. Jobs had the perspective of an entrepreneur and thought about design, marketing and how to make people interested in the products produced by the company. Wozniak brought the perspective of an engineer and had ideas for the technological advancements and the efficiency of the product. When these two people worked together and respected each other's backgrounds and perspectives, this helped them to build one of the greatest companies on earth.
And I believe this is the power of sharing different perspectives and respecting each person's differences.
This is a really great response , can you inform us of where you sourced the information about Jobs and Wozniak to back up your answer?
I got my information from a site from LEMELSON-MIT called -Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak-. This webpage was made by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology possibly by a student but there wasn't any information about a specific person who wrote it. But I still think this is a very reliable source as other sources like Wikipedia confirmed that this site is trust worthy.
As I was researching for some information to back up my opinion I thought that this example fit very well with what I wanted to write about. Also whilst doing the research I was able to use my skills of doing lateral research which I have learnt in my class.
I agree with this statement, as we all have different point of views, even if we all know the right answer, this prospective will never leave our minds. I believe that if we listen to one another's prospective, we will surely find the right answer. The right answer is the logical one that we all agree upon. We need a listener talker interaction not a forced Answer.
In my opinion, both are needed and important in different kinds of problems. For example, in subjects like math and physics, the right answer is obviously more important. However, for subjects like literature and philosophy, opinions are more needed because these subjects relied on different perspective. In conclusion, both opinions and facts are important, depending on what we're talking about.
I think it is important to hear different opinions than to find the right answer.
First of all, an opinion is a possible fact, judgement about something, someone or somewhere that is formed and developed in the mind usually through critical thinking.
I believe that brainstorming or rather hearing other people's perspective is a very valid way to find the right way. There can be more than one way that is right so hearing other people's perspectives can unlock more than one right way or the only right way (in rare cases).
Everyone believes in finding the right way but they seem to forget that everybody has their own perspectives which can help solve the problem. So, I think hearing each others perspectives might not only help to find the right answer but also help in correcting and developing others people's way of thinking.
I think it is more important to find the right answer than to hear many different opinions. I agree that disagreement can be helpful because it makes people question ideas instead of just believing them. However, too many opinions without facts can cause confusion and lead to poor decisions.
When people focus only on what they think and not on what is true, discussions can turn into arguments with no solution. Feelings may become stronger than facts, and this can create problems instead of fixing them. Right answers help people make safe and fair choices, especially when the topic is serious.
Hearing opinions is useful at the beginning of a discussion, but facts should guide the final decision. Opinions can help us ask questions, but correct answers help us solve problems.
This makes me think about how people can learn to check facts before sharing their opinions. In my view, this could be improved if everyone slowed down and questioned information instead of trusting it immediately.
It also raises the issue of why evidence should matter more than feelings in serious discussions. I believe this is because feelings can change quickly, while facts help create fair and lasting decisions.
Finally, it leads to the bigger problem of how disagreement and truth can work together to solve problems rather than cause arguments. I think listening carefully and then using reliable information is the best way forward.
What do you think?
Hello , I think that it’s right that correct answers are the main thing that matters. As what makes talks real? TRUTH! When we talk about things that are happening today, we have facts that are needed, as they are truthful and are needed today when there’s so much misinformation going about. Opinions are also important, though. Opinions are views that are offered through them, showing us how people really feel. However, there can also be false information that can lead to more misinformation. Let’s look at how, in the pandemic, people said that masks are pointless; indeed, there are studies that have shown that they are not, though, as it would have caused more illness after not doing so. Perhaps, though, one hasn’t got to choose between .
To finalise here is the difference between a fact example and an opinion example :
Opinion
I think that masks are really important as I like them and they look really cool .
Fact
I see masks could be crucial because based on a meta-analysis of data from 29 countries in 2020, research indicates that if 100% of the population wore masks, it could result in an 88.5% decline in the daily growth rate of COVID-19 cases over 30 days, compared to a scenario with 0% mask-wearing. ( statistic by meta-analysis )
Thanks !
I believe that listening is a talent, because conversations is not just about talking, it's also about listening, but, no matter how many people debate and argue, there's only one correct answer, but not always is there one CERTAIN answer for example, some questions in science does not have a certain like asking can humans reach stars so some people say it's impossible because we need 4 years of light speed to reach only the closest star near to earth, and some say, how can you be so sure if you never try, you see, i thunk both sides are right because one is talking scientifically and one is talking in a normal human way, each one is corr
Honestly, I couldn't decide whether I am totally for or against this statement. I am for this statement because multiple opinions help shape one truth, although thoughts could differ and vary, they all still eventually lead to one single truth that cannot be changed. From my own experiences, I personally prefer to listen to several opinions about one issue or situation as this helps me gain more knowledge and most importantly, listening to several opinions helps me dig deeper and try to think of the opinions from different angles of view and how this opinion could totally differ from someone else's according to that person's perspective and how deeply affected they are from this problem or situation, which helps me imagine the stories and reasons beyond these controversial opinions or answers . I am against this statement because I think that listening to opinions without getting educated about the truth could be unreliable sometimes. People build there opinions and thoughts according to what they see online, which is unreliable because most posts and websites nowadays are structured upon false information, that is why unknown websites should never be fully- trusted. So in that case, I think depending on facts is the safest option.
I think it’s more important to hear answers that are correct because facts are the foundation of any meaningful discussion.Truth matters most when trying to make sense of things. Because solid ground comes from real facts, not guesses. When responses hit the mark, they keep talk rooted in what’s true. Missteps? They open doors to confusion, often cloaked as opinion. Fear grows where details get twisted. Biases thrive without clear signals. False stories take hold if nobody checks them. Knowing what truly occurred lets each person build honest beliefs. Before deciding how you feel, see what is there.Facts matter most, yet views still have their place. They bring color, feeling, strength - shaping how stories land. Yet when belief pushes fact aside, balance tips too far one way. Truth agreed upon comes first; only then do thoughts grow wiser. Once shared ground exists, expression gains weight.Truth comes before views - only then do firm stances hold weight, since accuracy shapes meaning. When facts lead, conclusions stand solid.
I disagree because not all option been shared are actually correct based on your speech, topic, ideology and sometimes your basic way of life. I believe strongly that it's actually better to find solution than to listen other people option. for example, in a yearly community festival things are always missing is better to find solutions than to look towards other people's suggestions which might not be helpful and could cause total waste of time
I strongly agree that it is more important to hear different opinions than to find the right answer for example,
in a math question eg..,2x + 6 = 8 where they said you should get the solution and the answer, if there are to mark the scripts, the solution would carry more mark than the answer.
it also applies to real life experience and situation like between farmers and carpenters who should reduce in size in Nigeria ?
we will need to look at facts and perspectives like if we reduce farmers the nation we be malnourished and weakened, leading to death. But also, the same goes for carpenters without them a house won't be comfortable without cushions or chairs.
so we need to think on the both sides and get our answer.
They cannot give you a question or a statement and you comment or respond without thinking, because you not thinking before responding can cause misinformation or fake news which can be mistakenly accepted.
THANKS!!!
I think it is more important to hear different opinions rather than finding what is the “right” answer, because the news can affect people in different ways. By listening to different opinions, we can understand the experiences, cultures, and emotions of other people, not only the facts. By listening to many opinions, we can think more seriously and not view the world in one way. Although facts and “right” information are very important, especially in the news, opinions can help us talk and think about the facts and their impact on people. By listening to other people, we can become more open-minded and respectful, and we can form our own opinions.
Well to me, I am strongly supporting the motion of listening to opinions and not just answers that are correct. We live in a world today where people feel good just by being heard. So even if we listen to the opinion of someone and and don't take into consideration, the person would feel happy just for the fact that you gave him/her a listening ear. So I would like to encourage us all to try and carefully scrutinize the thoughts of others before making decisions. THANK YOU.
Some topics are subjective in nature, there is rarely a "correct" answer. For those topics, many opinions from a spectrum of people are needed to form the most accurate answer. This is tricky though, some opinions are just more morally right (for example, "murder is wrong"), some opinions more morally wrong ("murder is right"). But even in my example, maybe some people might disagree with me, this shows how complicated this topic is. For morally grey topics, I stress that unbiased opinions from many people are needed for a productive discussion.
I Personally agree since truth is found in comparison. listening to different opinions means fact finding. Thus it is okay to have everyone's point of view first. This equally helps us to get experiences from such discussions and learner without quick decision making or settling to a point.
I personally agree with this statement, I think hearing out people's opinions shows us different perspectives and might even lead us to the answer we've been looking for. The correct answer to something is'nt always the right answer at least, depending on our moral values. If we already have the answer we we're trying to find, there wont be any room to see other people's opinions and we might even come off as cocky or arrogant if we hear an opinion that's incorrect and we want to correct them.
I disagree with this statement because opinions could change our view and perspective of the answer even though it could be incorrect. Because if we hear different opinions from the people we trust we could get swayed into thinking its the right answer.
I believe that the right answer could contradict from someone's belief which can cause them to view an answer the wrong way. An opinion could also cause a disagreement that could digress people from the actual matter.
I strongly believe that it's more important to share opinions.
First of all, what decide right or wrong answers/opinions? Does everything even have a certain right answer? There may be an answer that seems right to you, but it may look wrong from another person's perspective. World isn't just math where there is only one answer to everything. Everyone has different perspective, different background, and all these can make up different right answers which would just be an conflict of perspectives.
However, it is true that there would be some debate or argument that has a correct answer such as facts and universal truths. Nevertheless, even in such debate or argument, if we prohibit the exchange of opinions and simply force them to believe as is, it may only cause more opposition. To truly teach and help someone to learn something, we must first listen to their opinions and understand the. Only then, they can be resolved through the genuine conversation and sharing of idea.
What do you think about it? Do you think there's always a correct answers? Do you still think that sharing opinion is not that important? Please share your ideas too. I'm always waiting to listen to others' idea as well!
I think hearing different opinions is actually the most effective way to find the right answer. When we only look for one 'correct' fact, we often miss the context. By listening to diverse perspectives, we challenge our own biases and ensure that the 'right answer' we eventually find is well-rounded, inclusive, and based on a full understanding of the situation rather than just one point of view.
I would have to agree to this because the opinions of others not only give us the right answer, but it gives us a thousand and one views on one matter. It's like a maths question and just the correct answer may not impact as much as when many students share their ideas whether right and wrong and this gives us the insight we need to appropriately solve the question. it will show us errors we need to avoid, different (possibly easier) way of solving the question and we can learn from our mistakes and the mistakes of others, which as for me is the mode of learning that lasts the longest, even though it might not be pleasant.
So as of my statement, we should try our best to listen to the opinions of others.
Thank you.
I agree with that we should to hear to allot of options to know the difference between the people and how everyone thinks. This may help you in communicating because you have new how everyone thinks.
I do not agree with this statement as opinions are subjective whereas finding the right answer is factual, accurate and definitive. Also, if lives or vital factors are involved it is especially important to know the definitive answer rather than an opinion based answer.
At first, I thought that finding answers is more crucial. However ,I have now realized that perspectives matters more than answers because it gives us the freedom to express our thoughts, opinions and ideas that is more valuable than answer. As I discussed with my friends and family about this, and they said that answers often mark the end of a discussion, but hearing different opinions is where thinking truly begins. For example ,If the question is "What's the best Topical Talk Student hub question so far?". We will not find a answer and each and every Topical Talker's perspective will be different. This moment changed my mind that perspective matters. All the questions in this festival are completely based on opinions which helps us solve global issues and become future leaders and that's the goal of the topical talk!
I think that sharing options is important to the news and ECT is because it lets new reporters and the president know what the people want and what they think is best. For them and their future and what they think they need and deserve.
I think it is more important to hear the correct answers because accuracy is key to being knowledgeable. Although that does not mean we should not care to listen to other people's views and opinions as it could also spice up the way we see things. It is not just about knowing the correct thing, it is also about your view on it and how well you do it.
Hi this is practical_ibex.
I think it is more important to hear opinions this helps in seeking other peoples views rather than just pin pointing i believe there is right to fear hearing this was not given so that the people would still stay in their shadows but to speak out and understand people's minds and bring it up together and get a solid solution that will be to the benefit of everyone.
I think it's more important to hear opinions or answers that are correct because you are giving out information to other people that can be knowledgeable. If you give out false information it can have negative consequences, when spreading inaccurate opinions or answers it can lead to other people spreading the false information. However, opinions and answers are based on your perspective so people can learn more about how you think from your point of view.
The honest truth is that people are only concerned about the objectivity and the verifiability of information, most especially when that information is to be shared as news to the general public. So I honestly feel that opinions and right answers work hand in hand. People want to ensure that the information they were told isn't just coming from an internal source. And also, the information should be able to get verified.
So the role that OPINION plays here is the stage of collection of data (unprocessed facts) from different people. During this period, various people are asked different questions through different ways. So the listening and gathering of these opinions is to have the people's view about that matter.
Then when the RIGHT ANSWER comes in play is when we want to use these right answers to check and verify if the research that was made on the opinions tally together. The derivation of the final result is usually shared 70-30 with the right answers having an upper hand than opinions.
After all these, we realise that the both opinions and right answers are needed before news can be shared to the public.
Some people believe that hearing different opinions is more important than finding the right answer. I partly agree because, although open debate is valuable in many situations, there are cases where focusing on a fair and clear solution matters more than endless disagreement.
Listening to different opinions helps people think critically and understand issues more deeply. When individuals share their views, they bring unique experiences that broaden perspectives. In areas like education, social problems, or creative work, there is rarely only one correct answer. For example, in a classroom discussion about improving school life, students may suggest better facilities, stricter rules, or more extracurricular activities. Considering all ideas helps the school make a balanced decision rather than following just one narrow viewpoint.
Disagreement also encourages creativity and innovation. Many scientific discoveries and technological advancements happened because someone challenged an existing belief. Without debate, new possibilities might never emerge.
However, in serious matters such as international conflicts or public safety, hearing every opinion equally may not be fair. If one side justifies violence or injustice, treating all views as valid could harm people. In such cases, clear and just decisions are more important than endless debate.
In conclusion, hearing different opinions is vital for learning, creativity, and understanding. Yet, in critical situations, fairness and the right solutions must take priority, so a balance is necessary.
I believe that engaging with a diversity of perspective holds greater value than merely searching for the "right" answer. Contemporary issues debated in the media are often refined, rarely lending themselves to straightforward solutions. By considering a range of viewpoints, we develop critical thinking, question our assumptions, and deepen our understanding of the underlying reasons for disagreement. While arriving at correct answers remains important, it is through thoughtful discourse that we approach them with greater insight. Neglecting alternative perspectives leaves us vulnerable to unexamined beliefs, rather than fostering well-informed, independent judgement.
Arriving at the correct answer is more important than simply counting opinions. The truth helps guide and give purpose to our conversations. Without having something true to base our discussions on, we risk falling into mere noise rather than making progress. In today's social media age, it is easy to be overwhelmed by loud or popular opinions, leaving the door open to misinformation and poor decision-making. By basing our answers on evidence based truths, we can establish accountability and protect society from being manipulated. The truth allows us to make informed decisions, as decisions and policies should be measured against reality, not just our feelings . Opinions are interesting and helpful, but they must remain grounded in reality. Discussion is only helpful if it leads us closer to the truth; otherwise, we can get stuck in an endless cycle of disagreement. In this way, truth is not a limiting factor- it's what makes our discussions meaningful and responsible.
Interesting thoughts - can you say more on how social media relates to being overwhelmed by loud or popular opinions?
I strongly agree that hearing different opinion is a more important than just finding one right answer when we listen to other people we get to see the world through there eyes which helps us learn things we never knew before in a debate the goal should not be to when or to prove that one person is right everyone else is wrong instead the goal should be to understand why people think the way they do if we only look for one right answer we might stop listening to others as soon as we think we found it but when we value different opinions we keep our mind open this make our community strong because it shows respect for everyone no matter what they believe learning from others is how we grow and become better at solving big problems together
I think it's more important to hear different perspectives because the right answer is not always visible from the start.
Consider science. Physicians long believed that stomach ulcers were the result of stress. It required a scientist who was ridiculed for proposing the presence of bacteria to disprove this theory. The discovery was not made by possessing the right answer in the first place, but by permitting a wrong sounding viewpoint to coexist for long enough to be proven.
This principle is also true in everyday life. When it comes to picking a career path, the first 'right' answer usually comes from parents, teachers, trends. Exposing yourself to different opinions will prevent you from living out someone else's answer to your life. Others may disagree that opinions are a waste of time and that facts are what really count. Facts don't interpret themselves. Without different opinions, facts are nothing but slogans. So in my opinion, hearing different opinions really matters than finding an immediate answer.
I think it's most important to ask for opinion because perspectives create a greater impact than answers. Solutions can keep a big dot to the problem but if there is lack of people's opinion or satisfaction, then there is no use of concluding with a solution. Expressing opinions really helps people to develop their skills and to exercise their freedom of opinion and expression .For example,in our society we often face some strikes and protests for various reasons like lack of job employment or gender inequality, in that case, the government cannot take a proper decision, so this says that it is very important to seek everyone's opinion. As some people simply conclude that, answer is the one and only key to give a title card to the problem ,but that is when the real battle begins. Without listening to People's perspective any answer feels incomplete, imposed or even and unfair.
Now, take agriculture as an example. A government scheme might look perfect on paper and it may increase revenue, boost exports, or strengthen the economy. But, if that same scheme hurts farmers, ignores their ground reality, or adds pressure to their lives, then is it truly a successful answer? This is where perspective becomes more important than profit.
At one point, I also believed that answers are everything. But, as I grew, listened, and observed the society around me,I realised that the world taught me, how important is hearing perspectives!
I partly agree.
Listening to different opinions is important because it helps people understand issues better and think more critically. It also encourages open-minded discussions. However, finding the right answer is still important, especially in areas like science or law where accuracy matters. Overall, hearing different views is valuable, but it should lead toward finding the best answer.
In news discussions,it is not enough to listen onty to the correct answer ; it is equally important to hear different opinions. This is because each person has a different perspective. Often, one persons opinion does not match another's. Therefore, to make a discussion meaningful, both of these aspects must be given equal importantance.
By comparing correct information with various opinions and examining them from different viewpoints, we can understand an issue more clearly.
For example just as a single mirror cannot show a whole person, a single opinion cannot reveal the full picture of any issue.
I agree because you can get a more befitting and fair answer in the process of listening to others opinions.
Disagreement and debate are essential for personal and social growth. When people exchange different opinions with respect, they expand their understanding and develop stronger thinking skills. Debate isn’t about winning an argument, but about discovering new ideas, challenging assumptions, and improving decision-making. In a healthy society, respectful disagreement helps create progress, innovation, and deeper mutual respect
Bye bye
I think it is more important to have different opinions than to find the right solution. Obviously, both are important, and if we achieve to hear to different opinions that are also right , even better. However, I slightly believe that having different opinions is more important, because this can open up or create a debate due that everyone thinks or believes differently . All of us, has the right to write, express themselves, or say whatever they want, as long as it is done respectfully.
I think sharing opinions is important because not every one has the same idea on opinions
I disagree with this point because people's opinion differ. The fact that people have the same opinion, does not mean that they are correct. Perspectives differ from reality. Even though different opinions bay be fun and knowledgeable, but the right answer is very important especially if it concerns health, life and safety.
I think that sharing different perspectives is important in discussing the news because sharing different opinions may lead to the right answer. You may also interact with other people with different perspectives and debate on the discussed news and you may understand the issue very well.
However it is important to share different perspectives in order to achieve more.
I think it’s more important to hear different people opinions than to always find the right answer because sometimes i think I'm right about something but when I hear someone else's opinion it makes me think more into the question. When i talk about something in class I see that my friends notice things that I didn't know about. And if you don't hear different perspectives you will never find the right answer. In my opinion I think that listening to other people's decisions would help find information and other Information other people were trying to find. That is why in classes we have conversations like these where people can share their opinion and help other people understand what they miss.
I agree with the statement. Hearing different opinions is often more important than simply finding one “right” answer.
Many issues in society do not have a single correct solution. Listening to different viewpoints helps people understand problems more deeply and consider ideas they may not have thought of before. This can lead to better decisions and fairer outcomes.
Also, hearing opposing opinions encourages respect and critical thinking. Even if people still disagree, discussing different views helps them learn, question their own beliefs, and grow.
I think that both are important, without one being more of a priority than the other. There are multiple reasons why I believe this, so I will talk about it now.
The reason I don't think it's more important to hear different opinions than finding a right answer or vice versa is, firstly, the purpose/objective of a discussion itself. The reason a group does a discussion, is to of course reach an agreement. A decision that is fair for all members regarding the situation. That is the purpose of it. You have to talk with each other, hear everyone out about their opinions and stances on the problem to eventually reach the “right” answer.
If only one person says their opinion and everyone else just goes with it, you'll never know if it's the best answer you can find. By hearing others out, you can complement each other's initial stance. Doing that improves the group's discussion and overall answer to find the “right” answer you're looking for.
I agree with this statement because we didn't need the right answ we need different perspective.I believe this as yuor opinion on something that happened to someone else.
I agree with this because before knowing the answer you should hear what other people think aswell before you jumping in and saying I know the answer when you probably don't this includes creativity for making ideas it is good for hearing ideas cause then you could add some of those ideas and make your own idea for this this also includes listening aswell because listening helps you adapt to your point of view
