Do famous voices really help?

Voices | Activity for everyone

Is raising awareness just as important as giving money or aid when trying to solve global problems?

In this video, Matt Damon, co-founder of Water.org, explains how public figures can use their visibility to draw attention to urgent global issues. He talks about how his values were shaped early in life, and how having a platform has allowed him to shine a light on the global water crisis, an issue that can change everything for people’s lives.

  • I think awareness is as important as giving money or aid people cannot help with a problem they do not know or understand. awareness helps global issues reach a wider audience and encourages people to care, donate, or take action. The video with matt suggests that famous voices can draw attention to global problems much faster than charities or governments alone, because celebrities have large platforms and can influence public opinion, it could lead to more discussions, media coverage, and support for important causes. but, others might argue that awareness but no action is not enough, and giving money, aid, or practical support has a more direct impact on solving global problems.

    1. I partly agree because although I also think it's really important and that it may make the difference, I don't think it's as important as donating money. However, I believe none of them are valuable for themselves and is the union of awareness aid, and money what really can solve a problem and take it to its very end. Besides, each case is different and I don't think we can universalize it.

In conclusion, although I believe awareness is important, I think the most important thing is to have all those factors combined, creating the greatest productivity. Each part is important but they make much less of a difference by themselves while together they can be exponentially more powerful.

  • Yes I agree to this because nowadays people follow trends more than anything and trends could be anything ranging from the latest dance moves to helping the needy and most at times these trend setters are popular faces including musicians, artists, you-tubers etc. So yes I believe that if famous voices were given the right aim, they could really be of great help.

  • Public figures are very essential when it comes to the matter of global problems. I say this because as public figures, they have much attention on them and their voices really draw attention to whatever they say. People like Matt have the platforms to voice out their opinions, and have the spotlight on them most of the time, and with the fame they have acquired, most people will listen to whatever they have to say. Government, NGOs and other organisations help when the need arises, but there is a limit to how much they can do, especially on a global scale. In cases like these, all hands need to be on deck and all the help that can be gotten is needed. And what better way to rally people towards a national or global cause than to use a voice that the people will listen to (mind you, it is the people that contribute highly in scenarios like this and the won`t unless they have a good enough reason to). In my opinion, this is one of the responsibilities placed on such figures; to unite the people towards a common problem.

    1. I agree because there are people from extremely poor places in this world and someone like Matt could give exceptional yet ample support with water to them👍!

  • I think awareness by famous figures is important because they shed light to issues. that may be overlooked. The video suggests to me that famous figures can actually shed light to things that may be overlooked. This is because people see them as role models and want to do the same thing they do, and as the figures bring the problem and offer solutions, the individuals who look up to them will do what they say. Take for example, the topical talk voices, these individuals are all experts in different areas and are brought together by this platform because of their expertise to ask questions on issues, convince us and see our perspective, which is actually incredible.
Like the voice of this topic, Matt Damon who is the founder of water.org, water credit and water equity, these companies have an aim to help eradicate poverty while trying to contribute to water cleanliness. He stated some vices in the video such as poverty, political repression and systemic inequality, from his story, we see that his mother was his role model and shed light to this issues which affected his mentality and in his bid to be like her, he became the individual he is today. An advocate against water crisis and as he stated in the video advocates for clean water as it can change everything in someone's life.

  • I think awareness is as important because, as the video suggests, public figures shouldn't just take their position for granted; instead, they should use this opportunity to make a change in the world. Everyone should have a vision. In the case of Matt Damon, he used his public status to address issues such as global water crisis, which led him to become a co-founder of Water.org. These issues should not be overlooked, but should be taken care of immediately as this can lead to great development.

Also, considering the fact that these public figures are well known, most people might actually listen to them when they address an issue. By this, many people will work hand in hand to solve the issue at hand, and this will improve the standard of living in many communities.

Furthermore, public figures can aid by donating money to less developed communities through fundraisers, recurring giving etc. These communities can use the donation to develop their society in wherever they are lacking, to the betterment to individuals and society at large.

However, many may hold opinions that differ from mine, due to everyone having diverse beliefs, in the sense that public figures don't really help in solving global issues and crises. Thank You.

    1. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this topic versatile_morning. You state that public figures shouldn't take their position for granted. Do you think all public figures should be world changers? Can you share more on this point with us?

      1. Well, in my opinion, I think all public figures should be world changers. You may be wondering why I say this. You might think that the primary reason for public figures hold their position is simply to show off and make money. However, that is not the primary reason. Their primary reason is for them to influence and create an impact in the environment around them. Everyone should take part in coming up with solutions that benefit our communities, and public figures are no exception. They, too, should co-operate with citizens to solve crises that may be affecting their communities. Many public figures claim that they have nothing to do with the crises around them due to the fact they don't want to stoop to low. A famous quote goes, " No one has ever become poor by giving"- Anne Frank. Just as the quote implies, no one has never and will never get poor by giving. Therefore, I don't think it is acceptable that some public figures refuse to help others simply because they fear losing what they have.

        1. I like your perspective versatile_morning. Thanks for sharing.

      2. I think all public figures should be world changers not because they want only their names to go far and wide but to help their various nations and countries. Even if they might be busy they should be able to contribute ideas and be like fundraisers to their nations.

  • By nature, as someone might say, public figures as such tend to draw more attention to certain details in life, which is probably why they are so often used to advertise, but in this aspect, the public actually do help with extreme cases like lack of water, poverty, and so many more, and if they stand against them and if the public know their opinions on these kinds of issues and know what they are doing to hinder these issues, the likelihood is there for people to follow on. In Matt's instance, water – he has a website for donations to give access to clean water sources and tools for access to water. We know Matt for movies, but if you happen to open up on him, it won't take you much research for you to find he is the founder of Water.org. My point is that in this case, famous figures do play a part in such aspects of life.

  • I think that spreading awareness is important because some people aren't aware of some global critical issues.

Some company like save water (as mentioned) uses some famous voices as an awareness point to spread the issue of lose of water around the world. Save water uses a lot of celebrities like MR Beast and Kai Cenat as they spent a lot of money and encourages others to spend more money for giving more water for poverted kids and adults.

As the celebrities have millions and millions of followers and most of them follow more that one so they could see the goodness spreading and donate too.

    1. I agree because spreading awareness is just as important as giving money or aid, but in various ways as they have different roles. Like you said, it makes people aware of global issues. Just to add, it changes the behavior or mindset of people, and can inspire large people to act, an example is the MeToo movement, which in Tarana Burke's view is to empower women through empathy and deal with sexual harassment.
Also using a point from the video, Matt explained how famous voices matter and the good they can use their voices to do. He also stated how it is making an impact on the global water crisis.
Raising awareness is just as important as providing money, but in a different dimension. Money is saving lives today. Awareness can change the future.

  • Yes raising awareness is as important or more then as giving aid. With out raising awareness there would be no attention to a certain issue.

Matt Damon highlights that raising awareness is important and is an important step in fixing our earths problems. Without awerness and issues are not addressed and fixed. Water.org is just a small step in fixing earths water crisis but he did say that these issues do not need to be accepted and we can fix them for the better. Others might argue people who actually give the materials are the true heroes. They are the ones who give the key materials to change with. But the people who create the aweraess are the really heroes, they create the plans and the ones who donate are just following that plan. In conclusion people like Matt are the ones fixing our planet one step at a time.

  • I think awareness is definitely important, because making sure people are aware of a problem is the first step to solving it. If we are in the dark about what is going on, we will not be able to take action. People should know about what is happening, or about important issues that may affect themselves or others. That way positive changes can be made. If you try to do something without raising awareness of your cause, it would be impossible to gain support, and nothing will happen. I think public figures are definitely an effective way to raise awareness, because people look up to celebrities and are influenced by them. If a celebrity does something, we feel like this is the fashionable thing, or the right thing, or the thing that we should be doing. And also, the very definition of being a public figure is that people and the media pay attention to you, so if someone in the public eye tries to raise awareness of a cause, people will hear about it so this is a very effective way of raising awareness. Although celebrities are not always necessarily reliable sources of information, public figures definitely increase awareness.

    1. Thanks for sharing your point of view noble_turtle. Why do you think that celebrities are not always reliable sources of information?

      1. Because, just because someone is a celebrity, this doesn't necessarily mean they are an expert on any given topic (unless the reason they're famous is for being an expert on that specific topic, of course) people are often more likely to believe something if a celebrity says it, but someone being famous doesn't always mean that what they say is accurate. Sometimes influencers are paid to make things look a certain way, or the information they present isn't well researched. This isn't always the case, just sometimes.

    2. I agree with your point that awareness is the first step toward solving any problem. When people understand an issue clearly, they are more likely to care about it and take meaningful action. Public figures can certainly play an important role because their voices reach millions of people very quickly, which helps important causes gain attention.
However, I also think that awareness should be supported by accurate information from experts, educators, and reliable organizations. While celebrities can attract attention, long-term change often happens when people also learn the facts and understand how they can personally contribute to solutions.
In your opinion, what is the best way to combine the influence of public figures with expert knowledge so that awareness leads to real and lasting change?

    3. I agree with you. Raising awareness is very important as it will make more people pay attention to that particular problem, if more attention is paid to a cause, more funds can be raised or free aid to support those who need it. Awareness created by public figures influences more people to buy into the cause.
Awareness is like a catalyst, with no awareness the money eventually runs dry and people lose interest. For example if you give a village a bag of rice they might eat it for a week, but if you raise awareness about why they don't have rice, they might be able to fix the issue. Global problems can't be solved by cheques, political awareness for example can help make laws that can change the situation. Another way to look at it is that if one person can give $100 for cause and maybe a public figure raises awareness and 1000 people give $10 each, a lot more can be done through the awareness that was raised.

  • I think awareness is important because it helps people notice problems in the world that normal people might not see. Some serious issues, like the water crisis, can stay hidden if nobody talks about them.

After my research about Matt Damon, I found out that he travelled and saw how other people live. He realized how serious the water crisis is and decided to use his fame to tell people about it.
Awareness can also make countries take action. When people talk about problems, countries may feel they should send aid to help those in need.

However, Some people might say awareness is not enough because talking about problems doesn’t solve them. They think real help like giving money or food, is the only way to make a difference.

I think awareness and aid should work together because if people don’t know about a problem, they can’t help solve it. Knowing about a problem is the first step to changing it.

I Hope my everyone understood my opinion!!!
    Thanks for reading 🤗

  • I think awareness is extremely important because even if we have the internet to get informed we still take a lot of things for granted, like the example Matt Damon gave about safe water. A lot of people don't realize it is missing from a lot of places in the world just because they never had to live without it.

I think its important for famous people to support good causes because they can influence regular peoples behaviour. And regular people can also make donations but also they can change their behaviour, which actually can have a positive impact on society and the planet.

However others might argue that famous people come from a privileged position and so they don't have the moral ground to tell us what to do.

  • I think awareness is important because if something is very important you have to be prepared for the aftermath. the video suggests that famous people get attention because of their jobs. However others might argue that famous people do not get attention because in the video it says " I wanted to use the attention to address the global water crisis."

    1. Hi practical_introduction - Could you explain a little more about the argument that famous people do not get attention?

  • In my personal opinion, l think that awareness is important because in the video, Matt Damon talks about how famous figures status will bring people to listen to them more than protesters or people fighting for a cause. The video also suggests that public figures have lots of influence on people based on their status and how they can use that attention to speak about important causes the world is fighting. In contrast, others may argue that people will only listen to famous figures because of their status and because they are more biased, not listening to what people are fighting for in the world.

  • I think awareness is important because,if you don't have awareness then you won't be aware of your surroundings and what's going on in the world good or bad.The video suggests that you should be aware because Matt Damon used the attention that he got,to talk about things that really matter which lead him to talk about the global water system. He made a company about cleaning the water that we drink so we can have clean water. However, other might argue that awareness from famous people is not reliable because some famous people might not give the information their suppose to say.But I believe that they will tell the right information if needed.

  • I think awareness is just as important as giving money or aid because awareness is what inspires people in the first place. If no one knows a problem exist then donation, policies and long term solutions never get started. In this video suggest public figures like Matt Damon can use their platforms to shine a light on issues that most people never think about- like how the global water crisis affects education, health, and even safety. His story shows that visibility can spark a huge change.
However others might argue that awareness alone isn't enough because talking about a problem doesn't automatically fix it. They say that real progress depending on funding, infrastructure, and practical support, not just attention.
I think the strongest solutions happens when awareness and action work together- one opens people's eyes and the other changes lives.

  • I think awareness is important because in the complex world of International Aid it serves as a Foundation for Justice. while Financial Aid provide immediate physical tools such as food, water or infrastructure it offers only a short time fix, On the other hand Awareness provide long term sustainability by addressing root causes and ensuring that justice is served. This video suggest that public figures can you there visibility to draw attention to global issues and it is true because I saw a video of Bille Eilish on Grammy Awards where she had a chance to speak up and she used it to speak about the ICE OUT movement where immigrants are facing injustice and she address their issue and I want to share that this was travel from USA to India and this made materialI want to share that this was travel from USA to India and This made me to realise how Just is had no boundaries if aI want to share that this was travel from USA to India and This made me to realize how justice had no boundaries if awareness was spread. I would like to share that awareness would have a great impact because it has people who are in the dark to realize what happening globally, if people do not know anything about Crisis they might not show interest on international aid which would lead to a major problem. someone else might argue that awareness is simply posting something about a crisis on social media and not actually helping it, I will answer them by telling if we spread awareness the hell will come because the people would stop think we should Help and think we should give Justice. Thank You!

  • I think raising awareness is just as important as giving money or aid because when more people know about a problem, more people can help solve it! For example, Matt Damon talks about the global water crisis in his video. He uses his fame to make more people care about it. It's like when your friend shares a story in class about a charity drive; if more people know, more people donate, right?

In the video, Matt says he learned about water problems when he was younger, and now he’s using his platform to get others to care. I think that’s pretty smart. But others might say just giving money or building wells is better because it actually helps people right away. I get that point, but if no one knows about the problem, no one’s going to help in the first place, right?

This reminds me of climate change. A lot of people talk about it, and now more governments and companies are taking action. You get more people to care, and it just grows and grows.

So, if we want to fix problems like water shortages or climate change, we need both: raising awareness and giving money.

    1. I d agree resplendent_blueberry, and here's why following the topic of clean water:

Telling people to just donate and not telling them the cause they're donating for or why it is highly important can lead them to believe that they are likely being scammed and this will cause them to not donate at all, even if they aren't. This means that situation won't be addressed and will make it even harder to stop in the future, as it is very likely that prices will have increased by then, leading to a lack of justice for citizens in countries where clean water cannot be accessed by everyone; even though
there is definitely enough water on this planet for us and generations to come, scientists have proven it and we know that and energy source such as hydropower is renewable, meaning it will never run out. We won't gain any but we won't lose any either.

Global issues in the future, such as disease, will also be influenced by whatever we do today. Several diseases are caused by malnutrition and by not having access to clean water. This means that more countries will possibly have to supply aid, meaning they're losing money that they could've been planning to spend on national issues like roadworks or rebuilding which would help their economy and increase global stability.

However, like you said, others will say that just giving money or building wells will address these problems right away, but are we sure they will last? People could decide to stop donating and wells could crumble in the event of a natural disaster.
I agree, we need both working in unison to make a difference.

  • I think awareness is just as important as giving money because if people do not know about a problem, they will not try to help solve it. In the video, Matt Damon explains how he used his platform to shine a light on the global water crisis. He shows that when famous people speak about an issue, more people start paying attention and learning about it.
However, some people might argue that awareness alone is not enough because real change needs money and action. I understand this opinion, but I believe awareness is the first step. When people care about a problem, they are more likely to donate, volunteer or support organisations that are working to solve it.

  • I think that famous people really do make a difference in this topic as people follow them and support them, otherwise they wouldn’t be famous. Say if Trump (no offence) told everyone his opinion, all of the democrats would ignore what they wanted to vote and do the opposite of the person they don’t like.

I also think that public figures make a big change as people will copy them and listen to them. Matt Damon makes a good point about using his job, that is well known, to share his political opinions and listen to others. But I don’t think that famous figures are very important when it comes to aid, depending on their job at least. Say if you co-owned a company, and shared your opinion on which country you think your government should give aid to, that wouldn’t be very important and I don’t think the message would reach people important enough for anyone to care.

    Thank you.

  • I think that awarness is sometimes more important than giving money or aid, because people must know what are the main problems in their country before they actually start to help it with. Also, when small amount of people become aware of the global issues, they can spread the word and then everyone can become aware of the problems in the world. I think that public figures can use their visibility to draw attention to urgent global issues, because many people know celebrities on social media better than the state leaders. A lot of people follow celebrities on social media, and I think, when they spread some opinions on social networks, a lot of active followers can see it, and many of them will accept it. However, others might argue that following celebrities cannot be very effective in solving global problems, because some people do not support all celebtities and not everyone agrees with their opinions. Of course people won't confirm someone else's opinion if they don't agree with it. I think that in the end everything comes down to personal choice.

  • In order to provide aid and money when solving global problems, one needs to be aware of the problem. That's why informing and discussing problems such as this, is the first and most important step, because if we are not aware of the problem or what has caused it, we may end up providing false help, meaning helping where aid is not needed while ignoring the real issue. We might even end up creating other problems. For those reasons, awareness is very important and when public figures use their popularity to draw attention it can be really helpful since not only is it a confirmation that people from all walks of life can help but also inspire others, especially young people who are the future.

  • Famous people can be really influential when it comes to the matter of global awareness. I say this because public people get much attention. In my opinion awareness is important. Matt Damon suggests that other people should care about global problems such as water.

  • I think awareness is important because if we are not aware of the problems around the world then we do not provide anything in return, i believe that everyone should participate in one or more activities that help solve problems of our planet. The video suggests that some people who are in the public light they should promote those kind of activities.

  • I think famous voices help because some famous people are like role models or idols, so if famous people speak about international aid or other global problems, people(their fans)will try their best to do what is in their power to help.
Public figures should use their popularity and influence to draw people's attention towards global problems.

  • Can raising awareness help as much as giving resources to solve global problems? Can famous people help spread awareness? I think famous voices help. Celebrities can help spread awareness because they get more attention than regular people. Awareness is as important as giving money or giving aid when trying to solve global problems.

Raising awareness can help get more people’s attention, and they will act and help. If we don’t raise awareness, people will ignore the situation, and it might lead to a global problem. Giving aid is just as important as raising awareness because if more people find out about the situation, more people will give more aid to that problem. In the video, Matt raised awareness for the global water crisis, and it helped people learn about the situation. Matt has a famous voice, and he helped the global water crisis get attention and made people aware of the crisis. Famous people raising awareness can help lead people worldwide to hear a situation they can help solve. Raising awareness can bring problems that are deep in the shadows to the light. The problems should have people raising awareness about them, so we can fix and update it if similar problems happen again. If the problem stays unknown, little to no aid would be given. But if the problem gets attention from the awareness that was raised, it would get more aid than the problems that are unknown.

In conclusion, famous people’s voices and spreading awareness can help solve global problems. More people should spread awareness rather than ignore the situation.

  • I think raising awareness is as important since people are meant to think and adapt. The more they are educated and provided with ways of thinking critically .The video suggested that the way he was brought up really helped him to be there in the world aid and paying more attention to the water prolem. People need more of the enlightenment so that they can grow more independent and able to handle their problems with lower level of aid and not to wait and expect the world to solve their problems. However, some might argue that awareness is not the key since sometimes it is hard to spread awareness when the basic needs are not met.I believe that we can reach a compromise between providing aid and sprading awareness as well.

  • Yes, raising awareness is just as important as giving money or aid when trying to solve global problems.
Firstly, awareness helps people understand the seriousness of an issue. When individuals learn about problems such as poverty, pollution, or lack of education, they are more likely to care and take action. Without awareness, many people would not even know that help is needed, so money or aid might never be provided in the first place.
Secondly, awareness can create long-term change. Donations may solve problems for a short time, but education and understanding encourage communities and governments to find lasting solutions. For example, teaching people about protecting the environment can reduce pollution permanently, not just temporarily.
However, money and aid are still necessary. Some situations, like natural disasters or hunger, require immediate financial support to save lives. Awareness alone cannot provide food, medicine, or shelter.
In conclusion, raising awareness and giving aid are both essential. Awareness inspires action and long-term solutions, while money and aid provide urgent help. Therefore, they should work together to solve global problems effectively.
    👋🏻 By

  • I think that public figures can use their spotlight to create awareness on important problems like poverty and the likes of others. It makes it easier for people to learn about and donate to projects or foundations that are doing their best to help those in need.

  • I think awareness is as important as give money, or even more important. Give money is very important because the World move arround money but not always hace inaf money to donate so this is when awareness take an important place because if you awareness people When the have the inaf money they propably are going to donate.
I belive that is very important awareness young people because they are the Future of the World. In comclusion I think that money is important but There are a lot of diferents things That you can do.

  • I believe celebrities are expected to make big changes as if it’s their responsibility. Of course helping raising awareness is really important and something they are able to, I don’t think their following listen that much. Donating would be far more impactful and helpful to multiple people because sometimes what they say when trying to raise awareness backfires and people go on a hate train of them

    1. I understand your point, but I think that spending money is not as important as informing followers. For example, Matt raised awareness about the global water crisis, and because of that, many people paid attention to the problem. Probably, more people would donate to different organizations if they knew about the issue. If people support different organizations, the money is shared and not all of it goes to just one organization. The consequence is that more people could be helped through different projects. That’s why I think more people, especially famous people, should spread awareness. No celebrity should feel insecure if some people do not understand their opinion or decision, because there are always people who do not like a celebrity.

  • I think Raising Awareness is important as it might get more people to Know about the issues happening such as wars or even with other stuff such as extra needs (Example Jeff Player 831 in BeastGames) Awareness gets more people to know about the stuff happening be that International or otherwise if you get to do stuff like Charity session where everyone in the class picks a charity and put forward one charity and it goes to a charity final Infront of the whole year for the year to support it would not only possible if voted raise money for the charity or raise awareness for the thing the charity supports
People who are Influencers or are on Influencers videos (Jeff 831 Beast games) Can put forward stuff for awareness in hope more people come to know about it

  • Fellow students, esteemed writers.

I think that raising awareness is not as important as real substantial things, like money or aid, but is still valuable and useful it time of crisis.

Firstly, Money and Aid are very important in times of crisis, beit immediate, imminent or just less developed countries. Money and Aid are real, substantial forms of service, providing support in times of need. These things are crucial to help humanity lift eachother up and really excell as a species, as it is an instinct to help others.

Raising awareness to a crisis or less developed country is less important, because it doesn't provide and direct, immediate support. Celebrities or people with a lot of influence may be able to bring attention to a subject and have fans or followers contribute to financial aid or supplies, but this doesn't count as direct aid.

Raising awareness is still important though, as no one can contribute financial aid or supplies if they haven't heard of the cause, meaning that you can't just throw out money or aid and assume that it is going to a good cause. This shows that celebrities are important to bring an issue to the surface, but raising awareness on it's own does nothing without willing donors actually providing the support.

Others may disagree with me, claiming that awareness is equally important, but I deem this incorrect because celebrities can't do anything by bringing awareness if there aren't willing donors or people who actually donate to a cause.

In conclusion, I think that financial and supply support is more valuable than indirect support.

    1. Hi Mesmerising_lychee you have put forward a good arguement that financial and supply support is more valueable that indirect support. Do you think that public figures raising awareness for specific causes can have an influence on where that direct support is allocated?

      1. Thank you for your insight, and I think that public figures have some say in directional allocation of goods and services, but again, isn't as useful as direct need.

Yes, if a public figure or celebrity raises awareness to an issue they can definitely change where the support goes to, but again, direct support is only brought by willing donors. What I mean by that is that a celebrity can bring up an issue and have people know about it, but no parties actually benefit from awareness of no one actually allocates any goods or services to the issue. The only thing that can solve a world problem is goods and services, and simply knowing about an issue doesn't do anything until it reaches someone willing to donate to the cause.

  • Famous voices can make a significant difference because they attract attention. Celebrities, leaders, and influencers have large audiences, and when they speak about important issues, people listen. They can raise awareness, encourage donations, and motivate action in ways that ordinary campaigns sometimes cannot.
However, attention alone is not enough. Real impact happens when famous voices support experts, charities, and long-term solutions. If their involvement is genuine and informed, they can amplify important messages and bring global issues into public discussion.
Ultimately, famous voices are powerful tools—but they must be used responsibly. When influence is combined with knowledge and commitment, it can create meaningful and lasting change.
    thank you topical talkers 🌹

  • kind of true aid should be apparently always should be used always but should always be careful of jealousy from other country's and mad country's

    1. Can you share what you mean by "mad country's"?

  • To be honest , Famous people like youtubers acctualy do not help at all because us young children could get manipulated into thinking what is right and what is wrong. It is a good thing to be inspired by good people rather than being manipulated by people because sometimes you acctualy can tell the difference between manipulation and inspiring.Us children who are still atending school make us very gullible to random people that we do not even know.If you want to search up on websites then i sugget that you ask a parent instead ofbeing manipulated.

    1. @ethical_mandarin interesting points. Are there ways that you think young people can grow their skills to ensure they aren't being manipulated? And do you think that parents can be manipulated too?

  • I think awarness is important because it helps people understand that problem exists. Many global issues, like poverty, climate change, and water crisis, continue because not enough people know how serious they are. When public figures like Matt Damon speak about clean water, they use their fame to help on these problems. Awareness can inspire people to care, learn more, and talk about the issue with others. If people dont care, they wont take action. In this way, awarness is often the first and most important step toward changes.
However, awarness alone isnt enough to solve global problems. People who are suffering need real help, such as money, food, clean water, medical care. Donations and aid can build wells, fund schools, and provide vaccines. Without financial support and practical actions, awarness becomes just words. For example, knowing about the global water crisis doesnt give a family clean water unless someone helps builds the system they need. So giving money and aid is necessary to turn ideas into real results.
In my opinion, raising awarness is just as important as giving money because the two work together. Awarness encourage people to donate, volunteer, and demand changes from leaders. Money and aid then provide the tools to solve the problems. When people are informed and also willing to give support, real progress can happen. To truly solve global problems, we need both strong voices and generous actions.

  • I think awareness is important, because if people know about the current issues going in the world it would be the first step to solving it. If protests and campaigns try to spread awareness, would it really be the same, as a biased person spreading it? No, because many people don’t pay attention to “ordinary people” but for example if someone you envy and respect does the same thing everyone would be exploding with comments and care about what’s going on.

This video suggests that if a famous person spread awareness, they would get 10x the amount of attention. For example, Celeste Barber used her social media account to launch awareness about the Australian bush fires in 2020 and she later opened a fundraiser to raise money. This act motivated people globally to donate over $50 million in only a few days time. If somebody else did this, they wouldn’t get the audience and attention they were hoping for.

However, others might argue that fame and favouritism, doesn’t just buy the attention and support, and would need foundations and organisations to actually assist the project. Others might also say many people will argue or disagree with the rather “biased” person attempting to influence and guide their fans and supporters.

In addition, I think if numerous famous people all come together to support and promote to help, everyone will understand the matters and issues that the world is facing or a certain country who is in need or in war.

  • I think awareness is just as important as giving money because if people don’t know about a problem, they can’t help fix it. In the video, Matt Damon explains that using his fame helped more people learn about the global water crisis. When famous people talk about issues, millions of people listen, and that can encourage others to donate or care more.

For example, at events like the Grammy Awards, celebrities sometimes talk about serious issues or wear symbols to show support. When artists like Billie Eilish speak about something important, their fans notice. That can make young people start researching or discussing the topic.

However, some people might say that awareness isn’t enough because talking doesn’t actually solve the problem. Money and real aid are needed to make real change.

Overall, I think awareness and aid should go together. Awareness gets people’s attention, and aid turns that attention into real help.

  • I think raising awareness is just as important as giving money because people need to know and understand a problem before they can help solve it. In the video Matt Damon explain how he uses his platform to speak about the global water crises through water.org. This shows that famous voices can inspire action and attract support.
In Nigeria, especially in some rural areas, awareness about clean water and sanitation is very important. When people understand the impact, they are more likely to support solutions.
However, others might argue that awareness alone is not enough because real change also need funding and government action.
Overall, I believe awareness and practical support must work together to solve global problems.

  • Yes, famous voices can really help. Celebrities like Angelina Jolie or Leonardo DiCaprio can bring huge attention to global problems because millions of people follow them. When they speak, more people start listening and learning about the issue.

Raising awareness is very important as people need to understand a problem before they take action. Awareness can also put pressure on governments and organisations to respond. However, awareness alone is not enough.

Money, aid, and practical support are still necessary to create real change. In my opinion, both awareness and action are equally important — one starts the conversation, and the other solves the problem.

  • I think awareness is very important because when a high public figures bring people's attention to a global problem or need, people will try their best to come up with innovative ideas or government policy that will help reduce the negative effects or impact the problem is causing. The video suggests that high profiled figures demand attention for overlooked issues. I think that this true take for example Marcus Rashford, he used his platform to raise awareness about child food poverty, this made the UK government to provide millions in free school meal vouchers. Others might argue that we don't need just the public figures only to raise awareness, we need everyone who care about the world to make it better, another group might argue in the case of Marcus Rashford that that his tweets alone cannot replace the need for an efficient food distribution logistics network.

  • I believe that spreading awareness is definitely not as important as giving money or aid because what is gonna happen when lots of people know what’s happening compared to the impact of help that countries send can do.

  • I think awareness is important because when people attentive, they learn about what is going on. Growing up Matt Damon said his mom taught him about extreme poverty, systemic inequality and other issues like political repression as fixable. For example Mohammed Ali use his fame to protest against Vietnam war. Others might argue that his protests did not provide the social requirement needed to help the victims of that time.

  • I think awareness is very important in any society, community or even country because they help people know what is happening and help bring more people to align with the cause. According to the video, he said his mom taught him the values that help shape him, so awareness is the first step to any humanitarian work. For example Audrey Hepburn introduced millions to the struggles of starving children with her work with UNICEF. Others might argue knowing about a problem is not the same as solving it because people sometimes feel just by sharing a post that they have solved the problem.

  • I think awareness is just as important as giving money or aid when trying to solve global problems especially if the problem is rooted in social shame. Glenn Close uses her platform Bring Change to Mind to raise awareness for mental health to end discrimination. She uses her platform to advocate for increased research and resources. However others might argue that if we don't have enough hospitals beds or doctors to treat the patients, ending the stigma does not matter.

  • I think that it is really important for people to have awareness and to understand certain situations that affect negatively other
countries and people. When a person knows what is happening in the world and the needs that some people may have then they can provide aid and assistance in order to satisfy their needs. Also public figures can influence their followers and fans that support them to provide money or everyday items that can be donated to those who cant obtain them on their own.

  • A global issue of paramount importance is the shortage and depletion of water resources, as the brilliant Matt Damon advocates. In my opinion, public figures as well as governmental parameters should raise awareness upon urgent plagues, including socially, politically and environmentally oriented issues. The influence of these eminent figures is critical and vital to tackle global crisis and raise humanitarian values to the leading point of humanity. Therefore, we can set the foundations of an optimistic and luminous future for today's societies and upcoming generations, by drawing attention to the matrix of catastrophic problems and ensure sustainability for generations to come.

  • I believe awareness by famous people is really important. They are known and admired figures by citizens from all over the world. The influence they have on them is undoubtful especially nowadays . Their voices are widely heard and their opinions are deeply appreciated. So, just a post or a social statement could have significant impact. Even if it is not as direct as donating money raising awareness could be equally beneficial.

  • I think awareness is as important as lending resources. Awaress encourages people to care towards others in need, without awareness people may not even acknowledge that there are problems to solve. When people are informed about a certain problem, they are more likely to donate, volunteer or even push governments to make changes. This is where public figures play a big part, they tend to draw more attention towards the public eye. With their influence, it is possible for them to encourage the society to worry about global issues that might otherwise be ignored. They usually already have a large audience who likes to listen to them that could increase visibility even further especially through social media, interviews and news coverage. It is also possible for them to influence other public figures that may also continue to speak out about the issues we are facing globally. This can make an issue feel more urgent and important that pushes people to do something about it. However, their influence also comes with responsibility, because the information they share could shape public opinion in a big way. Overall, public figures can play an important role in spreading awareness and encouraging collective action on global problems. While I agree that money & aid are necessary, I believe awareness is the first step. Without it, there would be less motivation for people to contribute or care about global challenges. Thank you.

  • Hello I think celebrities should raise awareness even though protests and raits are still happening many just ignore them but when celebs raise awareness everybody notice like when Billie Eillish or bad bunny and more talked about ICE
And Billie Eillish said "nobody is legal in stolen land" I could go on but I think you get the point in the end all I am saying is that everyone should be aware of their surroundings so making celebs raise awareness is an great awarness

  • Awareness matters just as much as money or aid. It sets the agenda. Money goes where people are looking, but if no one’s paying attention, problems stay hidden — and hidden problems get ignored, both by funders and politicians.

Matt Damon talks about this in the video. His mom made sure he saw poverty, political repression, and injustice up close, even when he was a kid. She wanted him to get that these things aren’t permanent — you have to believe change is possible before you can make it happen. Later, when he suddenly became famous, Matt realized he had a megaphone. He could’ve just enjoyed the spotlight, but instead, he used it to shine a light on the global water crisis with Water.org. At first, his fame didn’t dig wells or lay pipes, but it got people talking. That attention brought in action and investment.

Some people say awareness isn’t enough — that talk doesn’t build infrastructure or fund big projects. When crisis hits, money matters more than speeches.

Still, the two go hand in hand. Awareness shapes what people care about. Once the public cares, governments and institutions start to listen. That’s when the funding and policy changes come. So awareness isn’t just “nice to have.” It’s actually strategic.

Money makes change possible. Awareness gets things moving. You need both.

  • Do famous voices really help? In many cases, they do. Public figures have influence, wide platforms, and the ability to draw attention to issues that might otherwise be ignored. When they speak about social, environmental, or humanitarian causes, they can raise awareness quickly and encourage people to take action. However, visibility alone is not enough. Real impact depends on whether their involvement leads to sustained support, credible information, and meaningful change. In my view, famous voices can be powerful catalysts, but lasting progress requires consistent effort beyond headlines and social media trends.

  • I think awareness is just as important as giving money when trying to solve a global crisis. Through the video I was able to connect the power that celebrities and people with a platform can do. From what I understand the reason Mr. Matt Damon only cared so much about make sure people had access to clean water was because his mother told him about it. I think awareness in this case is a prerequisite to donation as it is great if 1 person can donate 100k dollars but if they can do what Mr. Matt Damon did and got his platform to millions we could make so much more change. We saw this whenever celebrities endorse restaurants or in this case NGOs and other platforms. When singers like Taylor Swift even bring up a product it can get sold out in seconds due to her loyal fans. If she could raise awareness and talk about the environment or poverty for even 5 minutes I am sure if all her fans could donate just 1 dollar we could have billions. This would be much more powerful then if she just gave money as awareness causes discussion but also more people knowing and being aware about the issue. However others might argue that celebrities
are not professionals and don't know what they are talking about. I agree that this may be the case for some political statements and controversial issues but I believe there are many global issue such as no access to clean water or the environment that is very difficult to mess up. I would agree that the message may not be as clear or not put as well but I don't think we should put a stop to change just because it isn't perfect.

  • I think awareness is as important as giving money or aid when trying to solve global problems because it helps an individual to get access to the information he or she has gotten which very necessary as not to be mistaken for something else which may later arouse to a disaster.this video is suggesting on been passionate and motivated in serving humanity that why we have the red cross, briage, boy's scout and girl's guide etc.this organization are set up for protect and prevent alll harmfull obstacles taking place in the society. Others might think it is difficult to be of help to the community which is not supposed to be ,even if they are, trying ti protest themselves from fraud.we must be i
ready to give back to our society ,
    thanks .

  • I agree that famous voices and popular people's opinions really affect at the hour of giving aids. As well as publicity, many people can collaborate giving aids to countries when they are living a period of trouble or a hard situation, and show this help in the TV or in the media. This can really affect people's knowledge, feelings and wish to help other countries, as they are influenced by their inspirations.
Is this good? In my opinion, I think that the act of some celebrities collaborating in giving aids to other nations is really good, as they sum up more help due to people that they have convinced, as well as influencing in their opinions and making them to act and think as the people they admire. However, I also find a bit sad the fact that people is giving more aids and is solidary just because they are influenced by celebrities. Of course, more people summing to help other ones is very good, but, how many of those would help if they had not listened to the opinions that other people say? There is the possiblilty that many people want to help other nations just because they have been influenced by celebrities. This is good in some cases, but, probably, there are other nations that also need to receive aids, but that are not so visible to the rest of the people or their cases are not so known. Equally, the population of the area also need help.
For this reason, I think that people convincing other ones is good to influence to give aids and help the most they can, but we also have to take action following our opinions and feelings, and work and be informed by our own.
