But what about cheating?
Voices | Activity for everyone
New technology can improve performance in sport, but sometimes it also raises questions about cheating and rule-breaking.
During the Festival Live Launch Lesson, our experts Elise and Harry answered questions about sports and technology, including when special equipment or tools might cross the line and turn into cheating. Now they have some questions for you.

Cheating is not right, no matter the circumstance or situation. Whether in academics or in competitions or in sport, what is wrong is wrong. As long as you did not enter the sports competition the right way or win the right way, you cheated. Winning is not just about being the best, it is also about how you earned it. So if you cheat during sports competitions and come out as first, sorry but you are not a winner. It is better to fail honestly than win dishonestly. No matter the form of cheating, whether taking in drugs to enhance your performances, or lying about your age group it still counts as cheating. Athletes should be reminded that honesty is the best policy. Besides, in my own opinion, there is this pride and joy that comes with winning honestly and knowing you earned it.
I agree with you 100% because cheating is lying. But also the one how is cheating is cheating himself not the others.
I do not really understand your question but what I was able to get was that you asked how one is cheating himself not others when cheating. If this was your question, then I have a very good answer for you. When cheating, You cheat yourself first, because you have just deprived yourself of the pride that comes with knowing that you won by yourself. Also you have cheated yourself because you might have missed learning some fundamental skills or tactics you might have gotten if you followed the right ways.
I agree because... no matter how good the technology is you should not use it for any dirty reason
Hey Topical Talker I am dependable_pigeon From my own perspective cheating is the act of disobeying a particular rules for an individual to obey, They is a high rate of cheating during sports, 90% of people who engaged in sports have practiced cheating which will not even be fun because when someone cheat it makes it more easier for them to win the game and not be able to acquire anything.Thank you.
I agree because...every body working hard YES! wining is good but should not come with a price
example me breaking others bicycles just to win it will not be fair
I agree it should be a show of skill
Hi, topical talkers. It is quite obvious that new technology can improve performance in sports, but a line should be drawn between technology and sports when it shifts focus from human skill and athleticism to distorting a fair play. If technology is permitted or included in a particular sport, it should be accessible to all and not exclusive to few in order to make the game equitable . As a matter of fact, we shouldn't forget that our primary focus is human performance, not technology.
I agree because technology can be useful and improve skills, but it’s a competition about people and not gadgets.
I´m totally agree with you because is unfair for the athlets without access to technology to compete with others that have advantage. Also, this generates inequable opportunities between wealthy athlets, who can afford this technology and other ones that cannot be able to pay this huge quantities of money. Moreover, as you said sport is to test humans abilities, not machines one. In conclusion, technology hurts the spirit of fair competicions.
I agree with Harry. I personally feel people invent things because they are lazy to do the work or the work is too overwhelming for them. Technology makes sports better and fun but it starts to become cheating when technological advancements submerges the athlete's personal effort. For example, an athlete trains everyday but on the day of the event, the athlete's hard work had gone to waste because the event was made too easy. Technology was made to make life easy but if it makes life too easy, what fun will life be?
I agree with Elise and Harry because new technology actually aids in the advancement of sports, but it can also lead to cheating and rule-breaking. I think this because technology is a very submissive structure, it can not think on its own, it does what its programmed to do, therefore it does not know what is wrong and what is right. People who want to win by all means can simply maneuver their way into the settings and make it work for them. Cheating is completely illegal and should not be practiced by anyone so then for preventive measures, I suggest that technology used for sports should be handled with tight security as to avoid being used by athletes for cheating.
All the cheaters will think that, they are fooling people with a fake victory, but in reality they are fooling themselves with their fake potential. When a trophy is won by a machine rather than a man, A true athlete's dream is destroyed, not by a better competitor, but by a better algorithm. Great cheaters will always break records and win a lot of awards, but honest people will win millions of hearts .The cheaters are not just breaking records, they are breaking the spirit of competition, sportsmanship ,honesty and humanity .If a win can be bought or manufactured, then the gold medal losses its soul leaving the true champions in the shadows of a machine. Cheating doesn't just beat an opponent,it burries lifelong dreams of those who believed that Hard work is the key to success. We can see this technology most clearly in the rise of carbon plated super shoes. While world athletics has now stepped in to ban certain prototypes, but the damage to the spirit of the sport is already done. Research suggests that if these shoes had existed in 2009 ,Ussain bolt's 9.58 seconds record could have been broken by someone else with just 9.42 seconds. I think that cheating illegally deserves awards ,but honesty deserves hearts!
I agree with Elsie and Harry because cheating will not get you anywhere .
Can you say why you think that cheating will not get you anywhere?
I agree with witty_instrument, cheating won't get you anywhere because let's say that you cheated in a competition, no one realised, you get a price and everything is amazing. Now evreyday you will see that medal on your desk in your house and you will remember that all what you did was to cheat nothing more. It won't be a great feeling.
In the other hand to exclude the technology from the Winter Games won't be a smart decision. In my opinion technology should exist in sport just to help the athletes to improve their skills and to guarantee their safety not the win. To prevent cheating, the organisation wich host the Winter Sport should verify the athletes before the start of every competition and should always analyse their activity to see if something is wrong
I agree with you because cheating will not get any body anywhere, also cheating is not something people should engage in. When people cheat to get a prize, when they wake up to see that prize, which they cheated to get they will absolutely not fill good at all. It is better to follow the rules of the game and win genuinely
yes, I agree with you.
if you cheat during sports with the aids of technology and win the competition you wouldn't fill motivated or engaged into the sports and cannot compete steadily on your own.
The kind of happiness you get from cheating cannot and will never be the same with the another who won independently and genuinely out of hardwork and training.
cheating takes no one, anywhere in life.
I support your decision as well. To me, every effort you sew to achieve something will be harvested when you see the outcome. Cheating is so not fair, consider those who worked so hard to win, all the sleepless nights, the grind and dedication, all of these will go to waste just because someone else used dishonest methods. Cheating of any sort should not be trolerated during the winter games. The winner of a game should be the one who demonstrates the greatest effort, revealing his talents and dedication.
I agree with you because I also believe that the reason why technology can be a big problem is that sometimes it's only accessible to some people. Some sports player are can afford some expensive equipment or any other tech to boost up their skills while others can't even afford some basic equipment. I think this is why some techs such as carbon shoes are prohibited while some techs such as electronic e-gun system for running are even used in Olympics because once it's only accessible to some people, that means it is starting to be unfair because it's just making someone start being one step ahead even before the race start.
I agree because cheating is by no means the best way to succeed as success is a result of the 3Ts and as you said may destroy the feel good factor of winning, cheating is not nice as it kills the joy of the game and also makes the losers who were hardworking to feel like they wasted their time, energy and effort which is wrong. This is why I support equality and detest cheating, I also believe that all sports should be fair for the joy of the game to still exist. I would like to also emphasize truthfulness for it is better to follow the rules and win with integrity than to skip the due process.
I agree with you and i also believe that sport technology is considered cheating when athletes depend more on technology rather than their performances. Some team coaches would rather invest in expensive and sophisticated equipment that would aid their athletes performances instead of training them to be better in their skills and talents.
I agree.
Cheating is something someone should never rely on cause it can disappoint you anytime and anywhere in life.
Which also cheating can lead to ruined reputations , for an instance an athlete or a team wins a medal or trophy for a competition they commenced in then again that same competition occurs again and everyone are surly or fully assured that the athlete or team are going to win the prize again but when they disappoint everyone and the truth is revealed about them cheating it can cause the down fall of an era or ruin the teams reputation for ever and that is the major effect of cheating. It is better to remember that prevention is better than cure.
I agree because cheating does not allow one use the brain he or she was giving because when one cheats for the first time time he or gets use to it. Yes I agree that everyone obviously wants to get a prize. It is better you work hard and loose but if you keep on being focus and avoid distractions you will eventually get the prize, and also never give up .
If one keeps on cheating in a particular sport he or she will never understand it but if you are transparent what ever you want to know will never depart from you and you will keep on getting better in whatever field you are doing. Cheating is a very harmful thing us to so we should desist from it.
I also agree with you that it is better you follow the rules than to cheat , also it is good to make an attempt to a question even if you don't have any idea of the question.
THANK YOU
I agree with you because when one cheats to get somewhere it just shows that one is not learning or improving because if he/she was learning they wouldn't need to cheat to win. Cheating brings nothing but guilt. Technology in sports should not aid cheating but should help athletes track their health and their improvement and also ensure their safety.
I agree with your opinion of getting an undeserved medal which reminds you of cheating. I also think cheating makes you lazy and unwilling to learn which makes you follow the path of poverty and makes you to become a failure
That's a pretty valid point you've got there philosophical_pear. Thumbs down to cheating and a round of applause for sportsmanship. Members should embrace the habit of fair play and eliminate cheating from the system. Cheating during games robs those who have made sacrifices, to do their best during the competition, of their joy. Yes, it offers gives a fleeting advantage to the one who cheats, but the one who tried their best drowns in sadness, especially when aware that the other competitor used obnoxious means. To make not just Winter Games special, but sports as a whole meaningful, we should harness obedience. Self-restrain from foul play will give sports is valuable meaning.🙌🏆
I agree with you.
Sports are meant to be challenging and a competitive game between individuals or teams which will make the two opposing teams or individual push themselves beyond what they can imagine and for them to really see what they are capable of achieving.
Also on the other hand cheating won't make the game hard and competitive the way it's meant to be and that would lead to the uneven playing field , guilt in the mind and hearts of the winning team cause they know they did not win by their own strength but instead by cheating.
I total support you about the idea regarding to cheating when you cheat without being noticed the urge to continue rises making it a part of you, for example in an examination hall you and a friend participates in malpractices without being found that mind set of passing with ease will continue to motivate you to do more and this can lead lead to failure when called to defend your work.
this is also applicable in football when modern equipment's are not provided to aid sporting cheat and other illegal character such as envy can set in therefore leading to the down fall of the game
Cheating is just a little tool that is used between some people; but does it really matter or it gets you nowhere?
I believe that cheating feels astonishingly amazing, like I can win in something without really doing that thing. It’s most certainly every teen’s dream.
But then after realizing that it doesn’t really make you avoid losing a game, however it makes you lose many other things like your own effort, people won’t trust u anymore cuz you already lied about winning (winners should be awarded according to some points that others can’t achieve at that time, so acting as if you achieved all the points without actually doing them your own is really untrustworthy).
What are some examples of cheating that I prefer avoiding?
Using technology in a way that makes it seem as if the AI is the one in the game not you; like in marathons, using electronic prosthetic legs (if that’s already there) or using any AI websites or apps to answer some IQ questions as in the “Abakera show”. All these and many many others takes your cheating to another level.
(Note: you should avoid these and not do so)
Moreover, cheating makes you lack skills and development; you already depend on it then you’ll think why should I get to develop my skills anyway, that’s completely wrong.
After you cheat you’ll addict it, so it might spread through your life which would make you a little anxious of getting caught cheating.
In short, cheating is not a long-term success and soon or then you would get caught cheating which might destroy your whole life; like losing a job, career or ending a relationship.
Yes because if you cheat and you win you can get you disqualified and it will not be fair on the other players . Cheating will not get you anywhere because if someone tells you a way you to cheat it might make you go slower .
I completely agree with Elise as I included the same point as her "access" in the lesson. Technology is an imaginative tool that really helps everything improve. If everyone in a sport has the access to technology, why is it cheating? It's totally ok.
Why is technology ANYWAY important?
As Harry said, technology is developing every moment better and better and as it develops, it improves everything around it. It is really useful and helps in literally ALL fields especially sport. It improves athletes' performance, ensures fairer officiating, and reduces injury risks. From wearable sensors to video assistant referee (VAR), it has changed how sports are played, refereed, and coached. It has a great role in FAIRNESS, not only VAR or Hawk-Eye, but also Goal Line. DO YOU THINK THIS IS ALL? No!
It also helps in fan experience, for example, smart stadiums like AI powered crowd management and providing clear cameras which would enhance the view.
How can it be considered as "cheating" as Elise mentioned and I agree with her?
There are two cases:
1- the access
2- the equipment used
For the first case, I believe that this matters a lot as it can be even "unfair" in a match because the opposite player may not be able to buy it, for example. So, he will rely on his abilities only while the other player will have an additional support.
For the second case, the equipment used also can affect the athlete's performance. A shoes like carbon-fiber running shoes provides athletes with assistance. So, this is my own response to the question.
I think it is cheating it cheating because not a lot of people can get access to the technology that is being used but as we get into the future it will get cheaper so more people can get their hands on it
I'm not sure about this because... Yes I can agree that richer teams have more advantage over low budget teams because they can afford technology and equipment that can be used to enhance the performance of athletes over the others. But I don't completely agree with your second statement because I think the equipment will get more expensive rather than cheaper. As we continue to advance further in tech, parts used in manufacturing better equipment will increased and be demanded more, and not just the parts but transporting them too, like imports and exports, which will also lead to increase of prices and will finally result in the ready made equipment itself more expensive. But I understand where you are coming from, we live in different places after all
I'm not sure about this because what if we possibly get into the future and the prices of things increase and still the people do not get access to technology at all. I am not saying you are wrong but hear me out because any technology brought into sport must meet the requirements if not that technology would not be allowed. so that is why I say that technology in sport is not cheating
I disagree with Elise and Harry because everyone one must improve his level in skills and if the technology helps them improve their performance that would be a great choice.
All people in this world has wrong things that must be fixed and it’s not a cheat if someone tried fixing his weak points in anything.
I disagree because, for example, if you play a team sport like football and all of your team budds have some kind of tehnology that helps for maybe running or to shooting a football stronger and your enemy team don't have any of it, don't you find that as a cheating in a play? Like Elise and Harry said more important thing is access. If the tehnology is accessible and usable to everyone than it is a fair game, but in my opinion if it doesn't than it's not fair. When my friends and I were younger, we played a Croatian traditional game called 'Ledena baba'. It's a game where one or two players are hunting others and if you were touch by them you need to freeze. We didn't have any special tehnology to help us with that game, but I can compare it because some of my friends run a lot faster than me (I hate running) and that isn't fair also. I definitelly agree with you that all people are making mistakes but don't you think that there is another way to improve it than in a way of cheating? Or maybe to try some other sport that they are better in?
Let’s say a football team has a good captain while the other isn’t is that cheating ?
You mentioned that the most important thing is access if some athletes doesn’t have this access so why couldn’t they try to have it. Let’s clear, the technology use is based on a good captain instruction and experience so that athletes in the whole world can preform better by using it.
I agree with Elise and Harry because cheating will make the other team unhappy and it won't enhance the growth in learning of the cheating team. So in response to the question, I think that the other team won't believe in their self that they will win. However, Cheating is not cool.
In my opinion, I feel sports technology is considered cheating when the athletes focus and rely more on tech than their skills. We all know the disadvantages and advantages of tech and how too much of it, can be a disadvantage to us. When an athlete has access to different tech equipment, they may just decide to rely on such technological improvements, forgetting they have their own natural skills and talents. Amidst all this, those that do not have access to technology would actually feel more cheated because I feel this people actually put more efforts into sports but cannot however in some cases, cannot overshadow those that work with the aid of tech.
I agree with Elise because new technology can sometimes give athletes an unfair advantage and could be considered cheating. in my view, technology is fine in sports as long as everyone can use it and the rules are followed. but when special equipment is only available to some athletes or changes the game too much it should not be allowed. I also think that world class athletes still need skill and hard work to succeed so technology does not take away from that. some people might disagree and say that technology makes sport exciting and helps athletes perform better, but I believe that fairness must always come first.
Sports is all about challenging oneself to be able to push his or herself beyond their limit.
If bringing in sports technology to help improve athletes win is right then from my own view of point it is not, cause in the past days other athletes have being able to push beyond their limits and extend their way forward without the use of technology which made them able to keep on going and challenging themselves , if we are able to grow with that mindset that we can do away with sports tech and just focus on the normal way we have been doing our sports activities and winning by challenging each other it will be to our benefits, but by us using sports technology it will cause athletes to be lazy which will not keep them in shape and they would be more reliant on the easier way not the hard way.
That is an interesting point. Do you think technology is enough for anyone to win awards and trophies or would athletes still need to push themselves to be the best at their sport?
Good day Elsa@ Topical Talk
Athletes need to be more focused on mental and natural training routine, Athletes should have more natural training which helps to improve endurance and cardiovascular health and also enhanced mental resilience which can help them be more active on what they do. And that would make other athletes allure and captivated than technology would be able to do .
Cause everyone knows that technology can not beat nature in anyway and natural training is what would make athletes keep on going to be able to push beyond their limits and expectations. This is what will make athletes be more active and would lead them to more competitive competition for them and their teams to be better at their own sports naturally without the aid of Technology.
I think that no matter the amount of technology a person has they still need to put in their best to win the competition.
In my opinion, cheating is not ok because you could copy off of someone but they could get it wrong and then you will get it wrong. People shouldn’t copy either because if you copy it shows what that person can do. But in my opinion cheating is 100% not ok.
If I am honest cheating is 100% wrong and people should not cheat because if they get it right and they cheated the teacher would think they are higher than they really are which could affect them mental plus they won’t know how to work it out
I do agree with Elise and Harry because I do believe that some sporting equipment can be used purely to help an athlete but I do also think it could prove to be unfair if a person from a first world country that has that equipment competes someone from a Third World country that is not privileged enough to have access to that type of equipment. I think there’s a very fine line between purely using this equipment for help and enhancement and using it for cheating, well I do agree that cheating is very wrong and no one should cheat in anything especially professional sports I do completely agree with Elise that if it is provided to everyone, the sport is still fair because you still have to rely on talent and not purely on the equipment because everyone is using it.
But I also understand how other people might disagree with me and believe that no technological, enhancing sporting equipment should be used I understand that it is seen as unfair to others but I personally still believe that it can be an amazing thing that can help many many people in their professional sports, and I find it absolutely fascinating how far technology has come in sports equipment.
I agree with Elise and Harry Because when an equal standard of Technology is given to everyone we can't considerate it as a cheating since it is a standard equipment it is only with the athletes own asset and their will that one can win.
But if one gets to use High quality Technology and others get Standard Technology and if they loose due to it then it will not a race between Athletes and Hard work it became a race between the Innovation and the Creator.
In my opinion if Technology became Standard it would be a race between Hard work and Human Sprit. For, situation Like a prostatic leg or a wheelchair it should be allowed because it is just not a technology or a equipment it is at tool of mobility for them.
If the standard equipment system is implemented it would have a Global Impact because sports are pride and honor for a country. Developing countries May show their position and their will be arise in their market prices and it will lead to a huge economical development and on the other hand Rich country's may face some economical imbalance because brands like Samsung and Nike will not invest in them because if they can't show case the technology they will lose their focus
I believe a globally recognised standard should exist regarding the technology’s capabilities in sports. This standard should be entirely different from what’s allowed during training. While technology is crucial in training, competition should impose limits on its use.The focus should be on human performance that breaks records, not technological advancements that break records.
I agree, because as it happens in most cases, what's too much is not good at all. By this, I mean that a certain amount of technology in sports is incredibly helpful, since it makes sure that athletes perform safely. However, when too much technology is involved, it starts being less about safety and more about winning no matter what. This is how a lot of people lean towards cheating during a competition. The temptation is simply too high. Unfortunately, that's how humans operate. The more power they get, the more inclined they are to wish for even more, even when what they currently have is more than they could even hope for. I've noticed that when I get graded by a teacher and I don't feel prepared, I dream of obtaining a passing grade. However, if I receive a grade that is even slightly past a passing one and then look around at my classmates who got a mark or two over me, I'll immediately wish I would have gotten a much better grade. It doesn't matter that bare moments ago I was wishing for a 5/10. All of a sudden I want more. I've talked to classmates that have confirmed they also feel the same way. These kinds of emotions can lead some people to cheat, if they are not careful to control themselves. So, if this happens to children, then surely it happens for adults as well. The only difference would be higher stakes, like cheating during the Olympics.
I agree that cheating is a very big mistake and it is also an unforgivable fault. Some children or teenagers are lenient and say that they do not have to study or be diligent because they know ways to cheat, but it is a very big mistake, and I believe in that and in this way they fail their parents and themselves in the future. The biggest problem is not here, but if you grow up and graduate from a good college such as police or engineering, you can fail in your job because you don't know what you can do because you cheated and you don't even know what you cheated. You only write the answer.
And that was every thing bye bye
Cheaters should be disqualified because other people try there hardest like in the long jump someone could cheat and stand in front of the line and win that way they can be closer to the winning mark and someone doesn't cheat but they only lose because others cheated there should be a alarm that goes of if someone steps past the line or in football if someone kicks them without anyone spotting or noticing and then the team that cheated wins that is NOT fair
cheating is not a good thing to do because people who cheat can win : they are cheating and it can give others a disadvantage : they think they think they can't do it so they start using technology and cheating so then the whole competition /game isn't fair because everyone is cheating and using too many technology to win
I personally believe that cheating in sports is generally caused by low self-esteem which is a very bad thing. A teacher of mine always says that cheating is a proof of fear to failure and the ability of one not believing in his or her abilities. I have personally observed that people cheat due to quest for self-approval due to low self-worth. I believe technology should be used to improve the skills of the athlete instead of aiding them in cheating
I think that it is wrong to cheat because it is unfair and not right. People should practice so it is fair and then you will be more determined to win.
I agree because if you win because of your hard work an not because of technology you will be more satisfied because your hard work finally had the result you expected
I agree with Elise because if everyone has that kind of technology it will not be cheating but if only one person has the technology, for me that will be cheating.
I believe of course that cheating is wrong but technology in sports isn't necessarily cheating. As far as it is the athletes that are putting the effort and not the machine, I don't think that rules have been breached.
It is completely possible for two people to use the exact same sporting tech and have completely different results. This is because what matters is the effort and skill the athletes put into the competition.
I would love to hear what the rest of you have to say.
Elise has a fair point on this and I agree with her because technology came to help us play safer and better with the help of accuracy tools and special fits to improve performance, generally, technology is not bad at all and is a very nice privilege to have, with all the scientific advancement we have made as human beings and well, you can say some certain factors that are not available to everyone, can then be classified under cheating, for example, special swimsuits reduce friction in the water, increasing forward motion by a mile, that can actually be classified as cheating, accessibility is the problem, not the individual. It is said that without these suits, the margin is clear of the impact of those suits and these make us forget what makes sports what it is. Sports is meant to test the mind, body and fitness, technology is here to help us do that, not to alter the dynamic.
Let me know what you think!!
Firstly , cheating is one of the most famous disappointed way of making unfair play in a pure community that help the cheating club take an advantage in the sport which make the other clubs disappointed about playing the sport but for our luck there is some community that takes the comments of some clubs about an unusual situation that they stand bye or face so the communities start watching the club and see what does it do and if they discovered any cheating they will quickly bann this club from playing
Did you face any cheating in your life that made you lose anything in your life
Cheating will never be the right option in any circumstances. If a team wants to cheat, let them cheat but it is not fair to the other teams.
Hi focused_king, what would you define as cheating? For example, if one football team had better football boots than the other team, is that cheating?
I don’t think that’s cheating, it’s providing better equipment, but if you are going to use AI they should keep it limited because in my opinion I think it’s more powerful.
We should never cheat. By cheating, we are only fooling ourselves.Cheating gives everyone a
disadvantage and it is not fair no reason whatsoever.STOP CHEATING !
Cheating could get them disqualified and banned from the match of each and any game
There’s there’s no excuse for cheating even if technology is helping people cheat and people should play sport how it is meant to be done and it doesn’t matter have AI is doing it
Cheating shouldn't be aloud because it would give others a fair and unfair advantage, winning doesn't matter and cheating gets you nowhere in life so people don't need to cheat in games or anything and there's no point in cheating because it's not like your gonna win like a trillion pounds so there's no point.⚽️⚾️🏀🏐🏈🏉🎾♟️🃏🕹🎮🎲🧩🏸🏓🥍🏒⛸️⛳️
Love the sports emojis. If one was to win a trillion pounds, would then cheating be fine?
I agree with Elise because technology should help athletes, not secretly give them superpowers. When everyone follows the same rules, winning feels fair. But when one athlete uses special equipment that others can’t, it’s like bringing a jetpack to a running race, impressive, but not right.
For this question, I think technology becomes cheating when it changes the result more than the athlete’s effort does. For example, I read on the BBC Sport website that some high-tech running shoes were almost banned because they helped runners go faster with less energy. That made me think: if the shoes are doing part of the work, is the athlete really winning on their own?
However, others might feel that technology is just progress. I can understand that because even things like better swimsuits or lighter bikes once sounded unfair, too. A website called Olympics.com explained that rules often change as technology improves, which shows that sport isn’t frozen in time.
Still, I believe there has to be a limit that no one can go past.
If the machine is doing more work than the athlete, then something feels wrong. Sports should be about practice and trying again after failing; not about having better equipment. Winning should feel earned, not borrowed from a robot or a machine.
So, do you think sport rules should change as technology gets better, or should we keep the rules the same forever?
I think that cheating is terrible it is unacceptable and hopefully people like judges at a competition see it and stop it immediately and don't just let it happen. It is terrible in any circumstance on any occasion whether it is some sort of sport or even just a game at home with friends or family it is not right whatsoever. If you win but cheated you probably didn't win because winning is not just about coming first and getting a meddle and all of that but it is about the effort and how hard you actually tried doing whatever you are doing.
I disagree with Elise and Harry because if we allowed all the technologies that everyone can afford then it will turn to madness and example is allowing brass knuckles in rugby or boxing or any sport like that would be very bad and dangerous and increase the athletes' abilities which turn it from rugby and boxing to a gang fight. Think about it stimulants are in reach and affordable to all athletes why don't we just use them I will tell you. It is because Olympics and other tournaments and sports are made to see what our bodies are capable of and using all the technology that is affordable to all would turn sports goal to seeing what technology is capable to do, I think that we shouldn't use technology. However, others might feel that it is fair, but I think not.
I agree with Harry and Elise because, when the access of sports technology is not available to everyone it will be considered cheating because, if it is only a particular team that has access to sports technology, it will be considered unfair. Cheating doesn't take you anywhere only backwards and when you look back at your prizes, you will not be proud at what you achieved because, you know you cheated and you won't be happy, you will have a bad feeling about it.
I agree with Harry and Elise because if a team uses a device and other teams maybe a poorer team can't gain access to, it is regarded as cheating especially when it violates the concept of universality. I believe all equipment should be made available to all competitors for example if a sport shoe company gives three out of four players record breaking shoes maybe because they were sponsored by big organisations and refuses to sell or give it to the fourth player or anyone else, also if the technology does more work that the athlete than I feel it is cheating.
hi its me elated molecule as for me i think that cheating is wrong and very devilish ,i think that any one who engages in cheating is just afraid to fail and some of the reasons for cheating is because of fear and peer pressure and f you happen to to engage in cheating you will not unlock your full potential and you would keep on living a life of lie ,you would bring shame ,disappointment ,disgrace and regret to your family
In conclusion do not engage in cheating in order to avoid regret and disgrace to your family
A wise man once said PREVRNTION IS BETTER THAN CURE
I think cheating is the wrong thing to do. We should always play fairly.
I disagree with Elise and Harry, how can we really know when technology crosses the line. I feel like we should have a competition that is strictly no personal technology allowed. Technology was made to aid athletes, and unlike drugs and other offences it is not strictly pointed out as something that disallowed in a competition. Using technology to cheat, can simply be tagged as "aiding", because after all technology was made to help and aid athletes. The only line I can see that is drawn against this, is that technology is completely banned in some certain scenarios. Technology cannot really be said to help humans as much as rigging and drugs do, so how do we really know what usage should be termed as cheating. The introduction of technology in sports has revolutionised the way we see the games, so those that mean that anyone who has used technology to train, is then termed a cheater ? I believe that games like chess, which don't allow technology to intervene, other than training and analysis, should be the hallmark and guide to what cheating in sports really looks like. Because if really want to use technology, why can't we just go all in ?
THANK YOU.
I agree with you, Elise. It is cheating because, like you said, some people can't afford something to enhance their performance. If someone else can afford it, it might give them an unfair advantage and get them ahead in the game. Like when using A.I. to cheat on a test, it makes you easily get a perfect score. However, if the technology you are using can be used by everyone, that doesn't make it cheating. Unless it's a test or something you can't use in that situation.
I agree with Elise because accessibility is a key factor in deciding whether technology becomes cheating. If a piece of equipment or technology is available to all athletes under the same rules, then it creates a fair playing field and should not be considered cheating. In response to the question, I think that sport should test skill, training and decision-making, not just who has access to the most advanced or expensive technology. When only a small number of athletes can use certain tools, it gives them an unfair advantage that goes against the idea of fair competition.
However, Harry raises an important point by questioning when accessibility matters. Others might feel that new technology often starts off limited but becomes widely available over time, so banning it too early could slow progress in sport. From this perspective, technology should be judged not only on who can access it now, but also on whether it is likely to become accessible to everyone in the future.
Good summary of the arguements. If you delay imposing bans in order to see how the technology develops how would you stop inequalities developing in the short-term that might put off those without access from engaging with the sport?
That's a really good point. In the short term, inequalities could definitely discourage athletes who don't have access to new technology. One way to reduce this would be for governing bodies to regulate or standardize new technology early on, for example by limiting its use in competition or making shared versions available at training only, but not during competition, so skill and decision-making still matter most. This way, sport can still benefit from innovation without creating short-term advantages that make participation feel unfair or inaccessible.
Cheating is not right, because it gives you a fair advantage over everyone else that increases there chance of winning so in my opinion people shoudnt cheat.
How would you define cheating in relation to the use of technology? Is it ok for wealthy teams to equip their athletes with the latest tech when there are other teams who can't afford to do that?
I think that technology that helps you in sports is cheating because not everyone will have it. For example, if someone has shoes that can make them faster than other shoes and there is only one of them the person with them will almost always win. If there is a technology that helps you if you get hurt that would be ok since it helps everyone. I think there should be a choice if you wants to watch sports with helpful technology or not.
Can you share some other examples of how technology helps people in sport?
I agree with Elise and Harry from the video because if everyone gets to have new tech, it wouldn't be cheating, but if very few got the advantage of tech, it would be considered cheating.
However, others might think cheating in the Winter Games is right. The team or person would win the competition with an advantage of technology, but the team or person who was second should actually win based on skill. Cheating is not something that's fair, and it's not a game. Cheating is like stealing and lying.
Cheating is not something that's fair, and it's not a game. Cheating is like stealing and lying.
Well, I sincerely agree with Harry and Elise because cheating is very wrong and it is more wrong when only you has the access to the cheating device or technology and research shows that 35% of teens use technology to cheat and most times you may find out that the task or questions are so easy but because they are used to that system, they continue. We should also know that cheating has destroyed many peoples lives, for example, Charlie Javice and Frank, they created an AI app for students to pay for and use to cheat and despite the fact that they made a lot of money, Javice was imprisoned for over seven years and her image was tarnished and once you have a criminal record, getting jobs can be very hard and there is a lot of stigmatisation and nowadays so many teens want to justify themselves when they cheat. Cheating is wrong so do not even think about it.
Can you share where you found your evidence for the case you outlined?
In my opinion, I agree with Elise. In the video, she said that people had some carbon-plated shoes and had special types of swimming suits. These items helped them to swim faster than others. Because of this, a lot of records have been broken since then, and world records were set. She did say that it was cheating in the Winter Games. Clearly, not everybody had access to the things that certain people had access to, which helped them to beat records. In my opinion, I think it's cheating just like she said, because using other suits or types of special items in the Winter Games will most likely make the game unfair.
New technology actually aids in the advancement in sports. Then it could lead to cheating and rule-breaking in the games. Cheating does NOT get you anywhere and could affect your reputation. Some people buy new technology to boost up their skills, others practice. People who use cheats just create unfair play. Technology helps athletes who at least need help. Not just give them secret cheating skills in the sport. Cheaters just think that they're fooling everybody for a fake victory.
For these reasons, I … wanted to show why cheating isn’t fair in games or any type of sport.
Cheating is not right, and it doesn't matter whether you are doing it to win. Everyone deserves the same right, and therefore, no one should cheat to win. Anyone caught cheating should be punished and disqualified.
Distortion of fair play is not fair, no matter how or why it is done. Using technology to cheat is still considered cheating, mainly because technology is raised to improve the game, not to make it uneven. VAR works for both sides in football, rules governing sports are there for everybody to follow, sanctions are there for disobedience to such rules, and technology should not interfere with that. We should understand that technology is here to improve safety, experience, accuracy, and other deciding factors of a sport, not to ruin it.
Hey topical talkers! In my opinion, technology in sports can be used not just for making fair decisions or helping the athlet but also for cheating. For example, an athlete could wear special shoes that help him score better while playing a football match. This is cheating, and is undoubtedly not right. We should draw a line between technology that improves sports and technology that ruins sports. However, it is hard to set an exact definition of cheating. Something that a person or an organization believes it is a healhy way of improving your skills, another person could define as cheating. The definition of cheating is not stable, and it is a problem if we want to ban technology that helps athletes cheat globally.
Honestly, it’s a really tough one to figure out! On one hand, you have to admit that talent is the most important thing because no matter how fancy your skis are, they're not going to move themselves down a mountain! People have spent years waking up early in the morning and training until their bodies ache, and that's what makes the Winter Games so exciting to watch. If we just used technology, then it would be more akin to a science fair than a sports competition. Also, it’s not really fair if the richest countries win just because they have better wind tunnels and super-light gear while everyone else is using basic equipment.
But on the other hand, technology is sort of awesome and helps keep sports moving forward. If we had better helmets and suits, people could go faster without hurting themselves, and new snowboard materials allow people to do tricks they would never have been able to do ten years ago. The question is, how do you know what constitutes "cheating"? Is it cheating to wear a special suit to cut through the wind? Some people would say it’s just being smart! But with actual cheating, like medicine, it’s just not right. It completely kills the whole atmosphere of the Olympics because you are lying about what your body can actually do. Ultimately, I think technology should help the athlete, but not do the work for them.
Cheating is the worst thing in the Life.
How can you be happy if you took the efforts of another one not yours. so for example you're right now on a competition and you want to win in any situation of course you will cheat because you want to be the best one and all of the words speaks about you to be famous or something.
Cheating is not just taking the others effort .it's also going to the hell because the god said that we should stop cheating .cheat can be on any situation but the right way to be honest with yourself and the people around you .
I think that to break the rules or to cheating is mostly imposible in the elite of sports, I also think that players that are in the highest level of an sport don´t need to break the rules because they have a great phisical and mental capacity to win or to be between the best one´s in that sport that makes a lot of competitivity, if some player didn´t think like that would´t be in the top of the world or maybe thay will not even in the elite sport.
Also I think that technology have improved this part of the sport so now a days anyone can cheat, because of people didn´t use to cheet the technology is only trying the rules are been done propertly because maybe they can made some infractions unpropous so the technology help us in that part although is a unpropouse faul or is on propous.
In some sports thay have several punishments for players that comite fauls some punishments can be better or not such as footbal, tennis, rugby.
Hi I’m from England 🏴 cheating is not right because it’s a 50/50 chance of you getting disqualified and it’s another chance someone could get found out.And also better to not to cheat so you can play the Winter Olympics or football or any sport you can name properly.
Love from England 🏴.
I think that all athletes should be equally equipped in order to get actual athletes performance.
I'm adept_tornado and I agree with what Elise and Harry because... although technology makes sports easier and advanced, it also brings about cheating . When athletes make use of special technological tools, they tend to surpass their physical abilities and this counts as cheating. Imagine a game where some athletes use technological equipments while some don't, the athletes with equipments will obviously win the game and that's unfair.
Technology can improve sport, but it also makes cheating harder to ignore. Some athletes may use advanced equipment or data in ways that break the rules, giving them an unfair advantage. This can damage trust and make results feel less fair.
However, technology can also help reduce cheating. Tools like better testing, video reviews, and tracking systems make it easier to spot rule-breaking. Overall, technology isn’t the problem—how it’s regulated and used fairly is what really matters.
I agree Elise and Harry brcause if there not pushing it to the limits but just useing it to track on there time in swiming or others but if there useing it to make them better it will be highly embarsing if it runs out people will boo them so dont use that because it will only make them worse
I agree with Elise's take that technology is not the real enemy. Atleast, technology is not an enemy when athletes who use it gain an unfair advantage over others,or when they break the fundamental rules of a game. I will take the stance that technology must be embraced,as long as it is accessible, regulated, and used for safety and skill development rather than to replace human effort stance that technology must be embraced,as long as it is accessible, regulated, and is for safety and skill development rather than replacing human efforts. It can help athletes to prepare better and even avoid injuries without altering what a game is all about. It's technology that supports talent development, rather than generating talent. However, the trouble starts when technology starts to sway the result more than the athlete.Consider really advanced equipment that only a handful of teams or countries can possibly afford and the race becomes a financial race of skills. This sounds unfair and violates the sporting ethic of rewarding commitment, effort, and natural talent. In line with this, other Topical Talkers have likewise brought up this wonderful point:The rules must be clear to avoid the temptation for athletes to resort to doubtful tech in order to stay competitive. But on the other hand, some people also recommend that we should accept every innovation that comes our way because sports has always been a changing sport; records are meant to be broken and spoken. But records are also meant to be kept honest-Technology is supposed to lift sport to new heights, not challenges it's very essence.
Hi Topical talkers, Today I am going to be discussing with you about cheating . Firstly , cheating is not something you should joke about .It is a really bad thing to do and if you cheat their is no going back. Some people in the world can do that thing but In my opinion,( not to be rude) I do not think the parents cared about them or reminded them of studieding but i think it is called spoiled child. thank you so much topical talkers and i will see you in my next speech. And one more thing i have to say is that it wont be fair for the rest of the people .
Cheating isn't good, it's wrong. You're stealing people's efforts and thier hard work, and this will effect you in your future because it will show in your work. Do you understand or not ?
and if you cheat will you take a prize while you are taking the prize inside you you will felt You are embarrassed or you do not feel happy because you know that you don't had to deserve this award.
Cheating is unacceptable in my opinion, cheating just causes problems, unfairness and chaos. God has raised us to be responsible and trustworthy humans but some people have disobeyed God and gone and cheated, been rude or selfish which is okay we all make mistakes but if you keep doing that on purpose you are disobeying Gods rules, he has only left us with a couple and most people have gone and broken them which is horrible and sad since we should be inspired by Jesus with all the kind, respectful and loving things he has done for us please don't cheat and respect God with all your heart.
I agree with Elise and Harry because Elise says that if you have technology other people don't have, it might not be fair for the other contestants having a limited amount of equipment. But I mostly agree with Harry because he said that when technology gets to advance talent doesn't get shown. In response to this statement others might think there should be no technology.
Cheating is not right not matter the situation. Sometimes advantages are wrong, but it’s who has it and why. Winning is not about being the best at something or being better than others but it’s how you won. Some people are bad at swimming, while others are really good at it and that’s ok. I love it when someone actually tries to do a sport or doing something they like but their not that good at it and I love it when someone doesn’t care weather their good at it, but they care that they like and enjoy it.
I think cheating isn’t right but VAR takes such a long time to decide and by that time the match has lost all its momentum. In football even if you have the slightest bit of your body past the last defender you are called offside. In 2022 Liverpool's Mohammed Salah had his arm broken and VAR got it wrong and the player who broke his arm had no punishment. Personally teams shouldn’t cheat but VAR has to get quicker and more accurate.
Is cheating the same as technology?
1. Cheating is when you misse technology as a way to help theirselves.
2. Technology is a way to help those who don't have complete body parts or do not have a stonge body to exercise theirselves
I agree with Harry because for you to run a race like that and survive it takes a lot of courage so I think it is best to ask him about it
I actually can’t have a certain answer. I think it depends on the type of technology that’s used.
If there’s a technology that is found in a swimming suit which helps in increasing the rate of any swimmer so that will absolutely be called cheating.
But what if there is another sort of technology that helps a swimmer to increase his self performance rather than swimming instead of him, I think that would not be called cheating because this technology will act as a captain who trains his swimmer well.
In conclusion, sport depends on the person’s performance not a technology once. If technology will improve performance so I think that would not be cheating but if technology is used in an illegal way so that’s what I call cheating.
Cheating, as we all know is form malpractice done by individual whose in tension is to benefit oneself alone or even others.
This act can really be frustrating, especially to students who read day and night just to gain good and applodable grades and out of nowhere a student who dose not even know the first class he/she would have during school hours will suddenly top every one else tests /exams/or even minor quizzes through cheating.
