Russia and Ukraine: a turning point?

In June 2023 the head of the Wagner Group, a mercenary group paid by the Russian government to fight alongside its army as well as to conduct a number of operations around the world, publicly criticised the war against Ukraine and led Wagner soldiers in a mutiny against Russia's military leadership. Via intermediaries, President Vladimir Putin negotiated with the Wagner Group and the mercenaries stopped the mutiny.
