Turning points in the news?

The Assad family began their rule over Syria in 1970. In 2011, President Bashar al-Assad's regime started a 12-year civil war, which killed over half a million people. President Assad’s regime was very strict and thousands of people were put in prison for speaking out against him.
In December 2024 after over 50 years of rule by the Assad family, Syrian rebel groups took control of the country. Many Syrians celebrated in the streets, hopeful for a new beginning after years of war. But others are worried about what lies ahead.
The end of the Assad regime means that Syria is now at a turning point.

What other turning points in the news can you think of?
For example, is there a story in your local news that involves a big decision?
Or is there a global issue that you think people should take action on now to change the future?

Notably in many European countries, a shift to the right in politics and political affairs can be witnessed. This marks a turning point in terms of politics, as this phenomenon affects a lot of people and is of huge significance in Europe while setting the direction of future politics and political decisions.
In Europe, many parties such as the AfD in Germany or the FPÖ are gaining power in their respective countries. Those parties are classified as parts of the far-right wing of the political spectrum, where parties are divided into left, middle and right. By saying "left", it is meant that this party is more socialist and wants more equilibrium in social structures, by classifiying a party as "right", means that a party is focused on nationalistic ideas and wants the own country to florish. The "middle" of the spectrum is the pretty exact middle between "right" and "left".
Therefore, due to the growing political power of those parties, their ideas are generalized in public, which include "deporting" migrants from e.g. Syria or Ukraine as well as "remigrating" them, which are both ideas of the AfD, which also wants Germany to exit the European Union, such as the UK did and reintroduce the "German Mark". This would cause a significant loss of economic importance of Germany and potentially damaging its image in global affairs. Although the AfD "only" has about 20% in the surveys about the German election in February, the FPÖ in Austria is already allowed to build the new cabinet.
Ultimately, I think that this is an important turning point regarding European politics.
Hi there - I think that you are completely right that the situation that you describe is an important turning point regarding European politics. I wonder why you think this is happening today? what do you think are the reasons why the more ideologically "extremist" parties are rising in popularity? can you identify any specific circumstance or trend that may have been influencing society's political views?
As we can agree on the point that the turning point in European politics is certainly valid, I see the reason of this turning point happening specificly now in the difficult, dangerous and critical times we are currently experiencing.
This is so because people seek simple, direct and banal answers to their quetion and problems, which are generously offered by far-right and extremist parties, as those use populist methods to persuade the people.
Populism and its populistic methods can be derived from Latin "populus" = people and means approximately that one side presents itself to be very close to the opinion of the people and stands in for their needs, but makes use of exaggeration and dramatization of the (political) situation as well as opportunism, demagogy and (over)simplification in order to win the favor of the people.
For exampe, the German party AfD simplifies the subject of terror attacks in German cities to be linked to migrants, who are being viewed as the only people to be guilty, in order to emphasize the party's standpoint to the people.
Based on the fact that the AfD is widely recognized as populistic as well as right extremistic and that there are increasingly more people to symphasize with the AfD's ideologies. If there had been around 5% of all the voters symphasized with the AfD in 2013, there are around 21% of people who are likely to vote the AfD.
This redundantly displays that the more difficult times get, as the trend of recent times, the more increment radical and populist opinions get and therefore extremist parties are voted.
It is true that Europe is facing a political turning point and that the ''far-right'' is surging in countries all-over the continent. Nevertheless, I think this is also a turning point because the left-right spectrum has got obsolete. In many European countries we had a bi-partisan system, typically the ''left'' vs the ''right''. However, , as these parties wanted to continue to be the general options, they started to get closer to their respective rivals in order to attract the voters from the other side. As a result many of these parties at the end have become centrist or progressive parties which are far from their old ideologies and the bi-partisan system offers almost the same thing. In the USA this hasn't occurred because the smaller parties don't have any opportunities so the biggest parties are two blocks with the most and least radical people from each ideology so they aren't exactly the same. In Europe, countries generally have a Parliamentary system in which more radical ideas are represented by smaller parties which can gain representation. Now, the difference is more between anti-establishment parties (parties that want to reform the system or don't like the typical parties) and the establishment parties (typical parties or parties which like how things are done now). The surge of far-right parties is actually the rise of anti-establishment parties. Moreover, we are starting to see the rise of leftist parties closer to the far-right than to broader parties, they are also anti-establishment parties. I think now nobody knows what is exactly right or left.
What I think people should take action about the volcanos uncovering in Antarctica,
Because of our pollution(Greenhouse gases) which causes the ozone layer to break and increases sunlight. If this continues Antarctica's icebergs would be gone and might turn to grass which a lot of animals would go extinct.
Recently more than 134 volcanos are in Antarctica and some are prone to explode. This might affect us because cold waters and warm waters change location so if it is only warmwater a lot of Animals that live in cold waters will go extinct. It will cause a lot of plants and animals go extinct.
Thank you
How do you think people can take action?
I think people can take action by:
1. Reducing the carbon emissions that we send to the atmosphere.
2. Establish more protected areas to protect marine life in the world because most marine animals breed from in the Antarctica and go to warmer waters or other regions of the world.
3. Reduce deforestation
4. Use renewable source of energy
5. The companies that send a particular number of carbon emissions will pay fines.
6. Educate yourself and others about how important the continent of Antarctica is
7. Support organizations working to protect the place
8. Speak for strong international policies to protect Antarctica
Across the world, AI is a turning point where new decisions have to be made. like how we are going to use things in the future with AI. Not just that, it has a effect on the climate, which is changing because of industries smoke, CO2 and gas (green-house gases) in the air. we need to take action for in 2030, thousands of waste will be dumped anywhere in the world, which is not good for our world. We don't want a world filled with rubbish and plastic, do we?
One Turing point I remember was when El Salvador "solved" its murder rate in 2023. This marked a major turning point in El Salvador's history as its murder rates per 100 people dropped from the most in the world to one of the lowest. Most of the murders were results of fights of street gangs. As Nayib Bukele became president, he imprisoned millions across the country, sometimes just because of their looks. But his strategy was successful: The murder rates dropped. However, thousands of innocent people were also imprisoned and sentenced to jail in mass sentences. This sparked a debate around the world as with what means it would be reasonable to solve this problem. "Could it have been done more fair? Not at the Burden of these many innocent people?", we're only few of the questions asked. Lastly, it also worried some countries as president Bukele had built an almost authoritarian regime to enable his actions against the street gangs.
Although this turning point in El Salvador's history did not necessarily affect the whole world, it again poses the question by which means and with which burden justice could or should be served.
I think that people should take action on the amount of plastic that is being wasted. Research has shown that 350 million metric tons of plastic is wasted per year and only 10 percent is being recycled. When people litter the plastic goes into the ocean harming marine life. For example, things like plastic straws, bags, water bottle caps, and so much more are items that are in our ocean. I feel like it is very important to mention this because people like the beauty of the ocean but if the plastic in the ocean continues to rise then the beauty and the variety could be gone.
i think that people should take action on the sudan war .
more than 1 million people have left sudan because of the war to seek refuge in the neighbouring south sudan .
because of this war , millions of people are being killed and lots of lives lost bacause of this which are keeping people in pains , some homeless and others struggling and suffering. I think people should take action on this by appealing to the government for peace talk .
not withstanding that this crisis does not affect the whole world , the people there are greatly affected esspecially the children because the future depends on them .
One turning point I remember from my country was when our dictatorship ended in 1977. Many people were very happy because it came to its end a hard time, but others were worried because they didn't know what was going to happend.
The new predident, Adolfo Suárez, and other political leaders worked very hard to make our actual constitution. Finally, everything improved and the president tried his best to help the country.
This was something similar to what is happening in Syria. I hope it also ends in good way , improving the lives of its citizens.
one way I believe people in syria can take action is by seizing this moment to find new beginnings and make a better place and name for themselves. In the video it states how they are currently suffering a wide struck famine this means that the people are starving and are trying to find food. This is dangerous which is why I believe most people in Syria should find a way to make money so they can purchase food for their family throughout the winter.
I think people take should action to stop the war between Israel and Gaza because it has led to losses of lives all around Israel this has not been good to people all around Israel, Gaza has been firing missles with planes and planted bomb all around Israel and in any way that Israel has tried to defeat Gaza it has not been working somehow I thingk it is the government because is doing anything they will be a reduction losses of lives.
I think that the biggest turning point in the news for me is Donald Trump being elected as President. Many Americans were interested to see the way he would change the USA. They want to see what 4 years with a republican party might do to America because the Democratic party have been in rule for a while.
But an action which might really make the Americans think twice is what he wants to do to stop immigrants going to America. He wants to check everyones papers in Chicago and anyone without a paper will be sent out of the USA. He has also has raised the prices of goods from outside of the USA by 10%, which has had a massive impact on the people of north America. I think there are mixed opinions about Donald Trump and his descions, some people like them and some disagree. What will happen in the USA in the next 4 years? It could be good or bad.
Thank You
One global news topic that comes to mind is human rights abuse. According to Statista.com, North Korea is currently the leading country that is struggling with humans rights and following are countries like Iran and South Sudan. There has been a lot of controversy regarding all of these countries. However, North Korea has been the prime target of human rights violations. And while North Korea has been constantly denying these claims, North Korean citizens have been speaking out, contradicting what the North Korean government said. Stephen K., an official with connections to North Korea said. "Even getting close to the border is a risk for your life." This continuing disagreement has been troubling many citizens of not only North Korea, but other concerned countries familiar with the idea. So not only have there multiple sides to this argument, people are genuinely confused and concerned about this topic, and is a growing problem for millions of people across the globe.
One of the most affectful news that happened lately was made by Donald Trump.
As we all know America have the strongest economy in the world and one of the last updates that was made by Donald Trump was the withdrawal from World Health Organization. This means than that the money that America gives to WHO is now done.
World Health Organization is have a major role especially when there is an epidemic an we saw this when Covid 19 occurred the world people depended on them to know how to protect themselves.
After America is out and is sending no money to WHO will it complete as before or wi
How might the withdrawal of funding affect the World Health Organization's next response to a global health crisis?
America is one ot the founding members of the World Health Organisation and one of the most countries that bealived in the organisation and withdrawing the WHO can persuade other countries to also withdraw, and one country after one country after one country withdrawing may cause the organisation to close its doors. To know the affects of that is by
knowing what it is it's job.
World Health Organisation is funding money to all countries that don't have enough money to buy vaccinations or help protect thier citizens from epidemics.
Now when America isn't funding money to WHO this may cause severe problems for the organisation which can increase the deaths in the world because of many epidemics , viruses , bacteria and parasites.

A global issue that I think people should take action on now to change the future is on climate change. Recently, the weather around the United States has been on and off as there are many things happening at once. For instance, there have been huge wildfires in California, causing many hardships and deaths for the people in that area. Not only that, but there has been snow storms in Atlanta, where I'm from. In my entire life, I've only gotten to experience snow three times, including the two times it has snowed this year. However, I couldn't play in the snow without thinking about the many people in California that had lost their homes, jobs, and family members. Although I am very grateful for the snow this year, it really shows how bad climate change has gotten over the past years. Therefore, I strongly believe and genuinely hope that the situation revolving around climate change improves in these next few years and gets more attention.
I would like to discuss a massive desicion about the ceasfire in Gaza. As the people in Gaza have been suffering for a very long time , only one oer two short ceasfire deals have been created until now. The agreement was if Hamas (a militant group) would release Israeli hostages , Israel would release palestinain detainees and make a peace deal with Gaza for 42 days. However I think that the ceasfire deal should have been longer since Israel has kept bombing Gaza (not biased) and all thats left of Gaza is rubble.
A big turning point that I can think of was the Battle of Britain. If the UK had not endured and had fallen into German hands like what had happened to Poland, France and Czechoslovakia it is likely Germany would have won the world war. During the chaos Britain endured instead of falling into the hands of Germany. If Germany had won the battle, all opposition to them would have been wiped out as they were still on good terms with the USSR and the USA only got involved after due to the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour. That is why I think the Battle of Britain was a major turning point in history as it has changed the world in ways we still see the effect of it today.
A turning point that involved a big descision was the time of Indian independence. The Indian freedom movement was marked by several significant turning points, but one of the most crucial was the Civil Disobedience Movement launched in 1930. This movement, initiated by Mahatma Gandhi, aimed to resist British rule through nonviolent means, including the refusal to pay taxes and the boycott of British goods. That time a lot of big descisions were made like the Dandi March to gain independence and freedom.
For me this is the most significant turning point in Indian history which marked descisions that changed India's future. If these descisions would not have been made then we Indians would not be living in so much peace.
I hope countries like Syria also attain peace in their nation.
WIth one signed executive order, a significant, news worthy, turning point occurred. On January 22, 2025, President Donald Trump, through an executive order, eliminated the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives (DEI). As a result, the jobs of many federal employees and DEI initiatives were terminated. This action is already affecting individuals working in corporations, privately-owned businesses, and educational systems. For example, federally funded initiatives that were aimed at providing minority students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) have been forced to cancel all programs and events. Historically, DEI programs were created to ensure that individuals were not discriminated against based on gender, age, disabilities, culture, religion, or race. Many companies and universities utilized guidelines based on DEI to guarantee that everyone would have representation. Now, several minority leaders are voicing concerns regarding the negative effects this executive order will have today and in the future.
As you may know, In America recently Donald J Trump has been once again elected president against Kamala Harris which brings me to what could be a turning point in news for America. Electing a female president. In America and I’m sure other countries too women have been through a lot, and it seems like almost every election we have a women to represent us and we always lose. For example, Shirley Chislom, Hillary Clinton, and of course Kamala Harris have unfortunately failed to represent women as a chief executive in America. As you can see most Presidential elections in America women have failed to become a president. In the end , a turning point for Americans would be to have a female president.
I completely agree for a different reason. If you know most countries actually have female presidents and it ashamed me that we are still not moving forward. We are still not moving past these sexist comments and such which are disappointing and childish. It's quite crazy that educated woman like Kamala who went to Howard University and is very intelligent got shoved out of the way for a man like Donald Trump who is a felon and committed very heinous crimes.Hopefully we can move past sexist point but I don't think we will anytime soon.
one of the mostly-seen news on ever television is the poor children with no access to educate , nutrate ( eat or drink ) are a huge problem in the world . This include : inequality for poor children which leads to mental issues ; less lifetime than the average , falling of the country as their are a lot of people who don't educate so the country won't have a lot to work in it such as Sudan , which led to long-term danger as children began robbing and also , because of the lack of education for poor . Poor children began to conflict with others as they don't have any knowledge about violence .
Those countries should take action now and make learning poor people free .
I agree because... poverty usually means more children out of school and these children become targets of child traffickers and terrorists. The children, against their will, are taken very far away from their families and made to work even harder than adults under harsh conditions , some of them will be forced to join terrorism. Making learning or education free by the government of countries can help the the children differentiate between what is good and bad.
that's true but some of this may due to lack of parental care
Another news story that I can think of is how Javier Milei, the president of Argentina, managed to make the Argentina's economy grow so much in such a short amount of time. The economy grew by 6,5%, which doesn't seem a lot but it is. Also the GDP became higher, foreigners started to invest again in Argentina because the inflation stopped, the industrial sector grew. Also they export much more stuff now. Personally, I think what Javier Milei achieved is very hard to do. However every rose has its thorn and many people lost their jobs because of his decisions. He fired like 24.000 government workers but other people who didn't work for the government got fired too. I fell sorry for the people who lost their job, but I think Javier Milei's decisions will be better in long-term for all the Argentinians.
I believe that an issue that is not taken seriously at all by the mainstream western corporate media is the violence that was unleashed on Gaza from October 2023 and that has been somewhat stopped by now, January 2025. My opinion is that it is imperative that the Israeli State is held accountable for the unecessary war and the cruel apartheid-style regime that is the status quo. And we have seen many young people and organizations across the world condemn the Israeli military and it's actions in Gaza, this, I found deepls inspiring and it would be amazing if such energy was amplified to hold the powerful accountable.
From my point of view, one of the biggest problems my country will face in the future and will affect my generation severely (and that may also occur globally) is the instability of the present pension system. A system that depends on workers, because the pensioners receive money from other people, the money you obtain for work and goes to the system isn't stored for you but it's given to another person. As the fertility rates are decreasing, the population is aging and there are less workers, the system could collapse in a near future. This would cause chaos as many people relies on pensions and this would be a big blow for them. This is why many support immigration, however, when talking about illegal immigration, not all the migrants that come here are prepared to work and the majority cost a lot of money to the state, they can have cultural and assimilation problems resulting in marginalization and subsequent internal conflicts (like in some Scandinavian countries). That is why I think reforming the system is needed, maybe opting for the Austrian backpack system in which part of your salary is placed in an account for your future pension (this would be fairer). Nevertheless, no politician publicly supports this as most of the electorate are pensioners who prefer the present system. Even an ex-politician once said he thought but still never dared to say that the pension system is a ''scam'' because he would lose the possibility of winning any election. This is an issue because my generation and me may not have a pension in the future.
Syria's turning point can be good or bad depending on their decisions. It's manly going to be about which side Syria will go down its an ongoing war between which side Syria is on.Its either they step down the lead of where Assad is or they finally are stable and are able to make clear decisions without shut out the people who have a problem with the government.Im glad that Syria is able to change now and finally have a decision.Although some may not agree with these decisions it is finally to the point where Syria makes their own world of choices instead of having a straight autocracy.
I think a news story which has shocked many of us is what Donald trump has offered to do for Gaza.
It is such a relief that Israel and Hamas have agreed to end the war, but the question we want to know is what will happen to Gaza? It is a destroyed city and no one can live there.
Donald Trump has offered to help on the condition that all the Palestinians go to the neighbouring countries of Egypt and Jordan whilst he will send a big team of people to clean up the whole of the Gaza strip and try to make it hospitable.
The only problem that Donald Trump has found is that Gaza is demolished and people are dying there, he commented that he would rather build cities for the 2 million residents of Palestine in one of the Arab nations. The citizens of the war-torn country can start life somewhere new and maybe they'll like it.
But will Palestine agree to this or will they stick to their land? It would be the right decision to go with Mr Trump's plan as for Gaza doesn't have any money but the Palestinians seem so connected to their country they might not want to leave their country. It will take a lot of persuasion.
Thank you.
Syria is indeed on a turning , a fragile state which has recently emerged from war. With a lot of political instability and wounds inflicted upon the democracy of the Syrian state its hard predict what lies ahead, like will it be a war or would Syria finally restore peace ? As this event threatens the peace and stability globally there is still a larger risk looming over globe like a dark shadow and that is the HMPV virus which has found its roots in China and even affected few infants and newborns in India, this is similiar to the corona virus which altered the course of history, the main reason to why covid spread was lack of awareness and action however the risk of HMPV becoming a pandemic can certainly be reduced by basic measures like wearing masks in public and keeping a check for symptoms by the masses that can potentially reduce the risk and save the earth from being shut down again.
I think people should take action on the things that people do that lead to the depletion of the ozone Layer. This are the solutions for us to stop the things happening;
1. We should reduce over population in a country.
2. Inform people who work in factories to reduce the carbon pollutions.
3. Reduce deforestation
This are some of the things humans will face if things are not going well;
1. There will be shortages of food.
2. Lack of community promotions.
3. Lack of education because if people are overpopulated in a country most schools will be filled and some would not be enrolled in schools which would make them uneducated.
Syria is recovering from the civil war ,now rebel groups are in charge. Some Syrians believe this will be a great era for Syria, however some Syrians think that the rebel group in charge will be even worse than the Assad family
In Sri Lanka a massive turning point was the new priminister Anura Kumara. This made a big change because the corruption that the previous government caused. This could make a big change in SL because the people can live safely and out of the old ways. This links to the Syrian case because both countries went into poverty
A good example. What do you mean by "they can live out of the old ways"?
I think after al Assad go to Russia the rebels must make a revolution to say who will be the president for Syria and they must not keep the army who was helping al Assad to make the people dyi but the rebels said that they will be the president for Syria because they are the one who make Syria safe from al Assad but the people should take an action for the rebels because most of the people do not want the rebels to be the president and also the rebels did not make a revolution to say whether they will be the president for Syria or someone else I think the Syrian people must take an action for the rebels of their own country.
Something I think that people should take action in is the deforestation of Brazil's Amazon Rainforest, One of the reasons for Brazil's deforestation is because of cattle ranching. If this goes on any longer the world could be in danger, some reasons for this is because Brazil has one of the most beautiful rainforest. For some people, The first thing they think when they hear Brazil is the Rainforest, (or the Amazon River). In addition the Amazon Rainforest is also known as the "World's Air Conditioner" which basically means that the Rainforest produces 20% of the Earth's Oxygen! Without the Rainforest, the oxygen condition could get worse. The Rainforest spans over 9 Whole Countries! In addition there are a huge variety of animal species in the rainforest. In fact, over 5 million species have yet to be discovered! The deforestation of the Rainforest can even negatively affect us humans. Without the rainforest, there could be a significant loss of animal species and habitats. It could also affect indigenous people, and you will also notice an increase in CO2 emissions. And lastly, it can negatively affect the world's water supply. Humans can contribute to help by first, reducing the use of fossil fuels. The less fossil fuels used, the less pollution it will have on the planet and the less climate change it will have on the planet. Also, make sure some of the products you have has the FSC label. If it has this label then that means it is recycled and doesn't and wouldn't have a negative impact on the planet. With these actions you can help the world be a better place.
One of the biggest problems nowdays is the rapid changes in climate. In the last few years, floods, fires and destructive winds have become much more frequent than before. Climate change is happening because of the great influence of humans on the world. Also, in last few years, summers have been extremely hot and winters extremely cold, which can affect human health and even lead to some new dieseases.
I agree with all the people in the chat who say that climate change is a global issue and is something that needs our immediate attention. And i think the same goes with my country, India, and its really concerning. I've observed something really unexpected these days, a slight shift in the weathers. Previously, we had freezing colds starting from december to late march.. but it's february now and we don't even feel the need to wear something warm! There was also extreme rainfall a few days back, which is totally unseasonal.
The effects of climate change are not limited to only weather shifts or extreme weather situations.. it's affecting us in other ways like water scarcity and extreme air pollution. India's capital, Dehli, has a lot of population which just adds on to the usage of vehicles; producing more CO2 which contributes to climate change.. the condition is so bad that they have to restrict the number of vehicles on the road sometimes (like the even-odd car scheme) and sometimes its almost suffocating to even set a foot there.
Thats why, i think this is the main issue that we all need to act on, the politics and all the other matters are just not as urgent.
I think, the decision of the new president-elect of USA Donald Trump to retrieve its country's services and corporations from the Paris-Agreement 2025 is a turning point. The United States of America is by far the most developed country in the world and its role in strengthening the future is vital. They have joined Libya, Iran and Yemen in the countries excluded from the agreement. The US contains large amounts of industrial potential and now having no restriction whatsoever in the field of industry would allow them to establish as many factories, again contributing to climate change. Donald Trump has made his intentions clear as ice, on the very first day by stating that climate change is a 'hoax' and he has been exaggerating the need to drill for oil reserves all over America. This decision goes in contrast with,
1. stricter climate control regulations due to 2024 being the hottest calendar year in history
2. halting the increase of global temperature by 1.5 degree Celsius in context to pre-industrial levels
3. Inflation Reduction Act signed by Joe Biden in August, 2022 prioritizing the importance of renewable energy and providing clean energy jobs
To find the solution, we have to turn of the people themselves. They must raise their voices by doing acts which will not ignite any type of violent exercises. Some examples of the same are, by refusing to switch over to gas vehicles, protesting the cutting of forests for industrial purposes etc. The other countries could possibly hold future talks with the President, to convince him to oblige with the global standards.
This is an interesting comment. Can you tell us where you did your research? We want to know that everyone's work on the Hub is completely original, or that you can provide a source for other students to check out too. Thanks!
I think that the amount of money lent by Chinese banks, governments and wealthy groups to smaller developing nations like Sri Lanka, Angola and Pakistan is concerning. According to the report of the Voice of America, Chinese enterprises have lent a total of $1.34 trillion dollars in the 21st century. Countries like Sri Lanka have taken several loans at high interests rates from China. When the nation's progress slowed down, they were unable to pay back the amount. Now these countries face severe pressure not only due to the soaring interest rates but also from economic sustainability development goals to reducing debt to growth ratio by 95% in 2032. This debt, when not taken care of, can pose economic and commercial threats. For examples, the Chinese company Sinopec now has control of a Sri Lankan refinery. Colombo port City along with Hambantota Port could become the next victims of these strategic liabilities. Once in control of overseas power, they can exploit nearby resources . The solution, is to attract foreign companies by the means of cheap, talented and efficient labor forces. Taking inspiration from Bangladesh's textiles and Pakistan's football factories, these countries can attract propositions from the globe. Using methods for extraction of natural resources like oil, petroleum, natural gas etc. can also transform a country's overall revenues. Places like Dubai were only dunes of desert sand, but discovery of oil, only took them half a century to become the world's business capital. Its never too late, as even a small discovery can turn the tables around.
India is a country were security for woman is very low. recently there was a case in Kolkata hospital. a female doctor who worked there in night shift was raped and killed .after that there were so many protests all over the country and the criminals were caught and was sentenced to prison for lifetime. in my perspective this punishment for the rapist is not enough. I think the government should make a big decision on such cases. Because this is not the only one, there were a lot more cases like these before. When a case like this erupts protest would rise all over the country and the case will become a hot topic for a few months and disappear. These cases were solved but not the problem. India is a developing country but still there is no safety for women. If severe action were taken I suppose the rate of rape in India would decrease .
In my country, even though the present President and his party lost the general elections in 2023, he was able to became President by making favor to the regions of Catalonia and the Basque Country in exchange for the votes of separatist and ethno-nationalist parties. However, some of this parties do not share the President's ideology and since he was elected, they haven't been able to make the state budgets and many proposed laws haven't been accepted in Congress. This legislature has been characterized by amnesties to Catalan Separatists who broke the Constitution, the mismanagement of the natural disaster in Valencia, the instability of his government, conflicts with his coalition allies, numerous corruption cases surrounding party members, judges and the President's wife and brother and the impotence to pass laws. Therefore, he is trying to pass lots of laws and plans grouped in the same decree as aids for people in Valencia, transport subsidies and pensions reform in order to criticize the opposition if they don't vote in favor of the decree. If the decree doesn't pass, it would be a great blow for the government. The Government could crash at any time as he does no longer have the support of his old coalition allies. Moreover, pollster say that the two biggest opposition parties would win and absolute majority with the President's party and allies having great losses if elections were held today. I think it is unacceptable that the EU and other countries aren't making or saying anything about this and that there is a Government that cannot govern.
This is a great comment. Can you tell us where you did your research? We want to know that everyone's work on the Hub is completely original, or that you can provide a source for other students to check out too. Thanks!
Hello, as a Spaniard myself, I am all the time hearing about these topics from lots of different places as well as people, so I have a very build idea about the spanish political landscape. The main problem a foreigner who is interested on this or even a Spaniard who wants to get information, is undoubtedly poralization. The media in Spain as well as the people (and I don't exclude myself) are very polarized or confronted. There is the media in favor of the government, which can either be directly controlled by the state or receive a lot of money and investment from it, which will always support the ruling government; and the media against the government, which are united by a constant criticism to the President but are differentiated by how much or little they criticize the system (including the oppositon) and their political beliefs. I tend to get my information from two places: media outlets or Youtube. Some media outlets are: Ondacero (especially Alsina's program which is about a journalist analyzing the main topics of the moment, tends to be centre or centre-right, hates the govern., my prefered one), ElPais (newspaper, centre-left, likes the govern.), ABC (newspaper, centre-right to right, hates the govern.), RTVE (the state's media, centre-left to left, likes the govern.) and Ser (left, likes govern.) and EsRadio (right, hates the govern.), ElMundo (newspaper, centre-right, hates the govern.). Some media in english may fail to give the full picture but it isn't the worst option. Many of these outlets mentioned have versions in english.
Another example in history that had a turning point is the Black Lives Matter Movement. Although the movement started back in 2013 after the murder of Trayvon Martin, it became more relevant in may of 2020 when a police officer knelt of the neck of George Floyd, ending his life. This tragedy caused an uproar in society. Many people attended protests in hopes to bring a greater awareness to this societal issue. Since the start of the BLM, over 26 million people have attended these protests and have been apart of a change.
A global issue that more people should take action on is human rights. Many countries such as Cuba have limited rights and I believe more people need to be informed on the topic. For instance in Cuba the only freedoms citizens have is the right to vote and the right to believe in any religion. This is a problem because many citizens of these countries live in poverty and are unhappy with their lives. If they allow the citizens of these countries to have more freedoms they citizens could be happier and have more money. There aren't many ways to solve this problem, however one solution is if the country allows citizens to leave then other countries can allow the citizens to enter the country, and give those citizens a safe place to stay. Another way is to allow another country to take command of that country and give the citizens their rights back. This is an Important topic that more people should be educated on.
Hello !
I think a global issue is using single-use plastic. All the straws, water bottles, packets etc. are all single use. I mean when we know something will stay on the planet for years there is no harm in reusing it. Plastic straws, plastic bottles, toothbrushes can last in the nature for over 100 hundreds of years. These plastics end up in oceans and bare ground where cattles and fishes eat them and eventually die. Of course plastic is harmful, but useful at the same time. We cannot stop using it as it has many benefits like-they are cheap, are of different types etc. But we can minimise our use and switch to more sustainable plastic that are reusable. As-
1. Plastic burning can release harmful gases.
2. These plastics can contaminate soil ,water, air causing pollution and affecting plant growth.
3. Hundreds of animals die every year due to plastic.
4. Plastic food containers may lead plastic into our food and cause cancer.
" If action is not taken now the world will eventually face the destruction led by ignorance. "
THANK YOU !
Mexico has been in a tremendous turning point since the first woman president, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo took control of the country´s government and leadership . As it is known, Mexico has been batteling against the huge drug trafficking regime since the 80´s. With many drug leaders (mostly men) taking control of civilians in many personal aspects, for example: their jobs, their families, including their own free will. The regime is a tremendous force in the way the country functions regarding the politic system. It has been revealed that many politicians have a direct relationship with the drug traficking world, some have been imprisioned due to their ilegal affairs with them, and others have negotiated their "liberty". In the drug traficking power system, a new cartel has been introduced, the "Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG)". This cartel is known for not being in an alliance with other big cartels, in fact being so what independent; this causing wars between all of the ones in huge control. In another hand, the political party "Movimiento de Regeneración Nacional (MORENA)" is now in control of the country. The thing with this party is that they introduced the first woman president in the history of the country, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo. The turning point here is , how will a woman face the sexist narco-world and be able to have a say and power to demolish the ilegal system?
What obstacles might Claudia Sheinbaum face in challenging Mexico's male-dominated narco-world?
Three obstacles that Claudia Sheinbaum could look out: 1. The narco has to be faced through military since facing the narco is a war, with that being said, the mexican Military is extremely male influenced. That is to say, that the military will mostly only listen to men, with a woman in charge the posibility to take Sheinbaum "not as a joke" is limited. 2. Until now, cartels have had to negotiate with male presidents and mostly male political entities in order to reduce the violence caused by their ilegal business. Since that has changed, there is a probability that narcos could not take Sheinbaum serious, just like the military, but the problem here is that the oportunity to negotiate people´s security is poor and that means more deaths, more poverty since most of the lower class in Mexico lives from having to (not willingly or willingly) work for narco crops, more missing children, etc. 3. Narcos are not the only sexist presentation, most men in Mexico are. This indicates that some of the men working with Sheinbaum fall into this category. What could occur is for the narco to corrupt these men and betray our female lead. To conclude, all of this means that Claudia Sheinbaum could face the narco-world alone, without her army, without an oportunity to negotiate, and without her team, not a single president in Mexico could face the narcos, even if its a man.
Yes i want the people to stop false news .false news is a news that is rung and can rune a country or state joust in the name of money and property so that why we should stop this from happening in the world
How can we prevent the spread of false news and its harmful impact on society?
I wanted to raise the global issue of large firms oppressing its consumers, employees and sometimes even other businesses. Continuously, corporations like Amazon have kept their delivery drivers so overworked that they drive and park dangerously and Nestle multiple times have acquired its resources via forced labour and it is impossible to accurately describe how little of the tip of the iceberg those examples cover. In my studies of Economics and Finance I constantly come across these types of case studies and the more you analyse these cases the more disturbing the behaviour of such firms become. Such companies have so much power in the world and they always have outweighed any feasible benefit they provide with the harm they do to the environment, to people's health, to the economy, etc. As a society we should take steps to not only stop these behaviours but also prevent them by being more strict as consumers and employees by exercising boycotts more often, being more picky about who we work for and actively spreading awareness so one day we can guarantee a better future.
A problem that I think is very serious, but only recently gained attention in the media, is that the lack of safe drinking water is becoming a major problem all over the world. It's becoming a major problem all over the world. It's becoming a problem because of the increase in the world's population, but also because of people and companies that think that the sources of water that is safe to drink are endless. Big cities, whose population consumes large amounts of drinking water are also a problem, they both consume and pollute our waters. And while we throw water around without thinking about the consequences in the future, some people in different parts of the world like Africa don't have the privilege of having safe to drink water available to them. That's why I think we should wake up and act as soon as possible so we start responsibly using the water we have left.
I think it is important to choose the correct government and avoid any potential civil wars.
Absolutely, what do you believe makes a 'correct' government?
All over world now people are changing the mindset and that's the Turning point that gender inequality is not common among the citizens. They are learning to live in a harmony. However, there are some places where still gender inequality is an issue but It would die down soon.it
I think that bringing the Syrian refugees back is important as there were approximately 6.5 million refugees sent away. That's a lot of people! Then, there will be enough of the Syrian people present and they will be able to have a proper election and hopefully a better government. I honestly think this is the best action to take while recovering from the devastating war. I also think that they should focus on rebuilding the hospitals and schools to gain the basic needs of the people currently living in Syria.
I think people in Bangladesh needs to take serous actions to resolve all the problems that has been caused after dictator Sheikh Hashina fled the country.
That was a big turning point for Bangladesh's government and commoners of Bangladesh.
Everything has been a hectic period.
People aren't doing their jobs properly, no one knows what to be sure of. There's fighting between rebel groups and protests going on. Everyone's trying to fight for power.
This is what surprised me after hearing about Syria... because it reminded me a lot of the July's movement against Sheikh Hashina.
But overall, like I included, we meaning the government should see this issue into more detail and try to take critical steps to solve the real issues growing day by day.
I think a big turning point in all of the world is the little amount of petroleum, and it´s true that a lot of research has been going on to try and find other sources that are as eficient and even less polluting. A lot of progress has been made but I still don´t believe we have it all optimised and when that point comes I believe it will have massive changes all over the world
One major turning point in recent news is the war between Russia and Ukraine . This conflict has changed global politics , affected economics, and have caused millions of people to leave their home. The decision made by the leader will now shape the future of both countries. If the peace talks happen , it could bring the stability, but if the war continues , it could lead to more destruction , damage and suffering.
Another important turning point is climate change. Many countries are making big decisions about using renewable energy and reducing pollution. If some sort of action is taken now , it could help protect the planet for the future generations. But if people ignore the problem , extreme weather , rising sea level and other disasters will become worse.
Turning points like these remind us that important choices today can change the future. Now it is up to us the , ordinary people and the leaders to make decisions that lead us to a better world.
After the war in Syria had end and after Bashar - Al Assad escaped to Russia and Ahmed El-Sharaabecame a powerful leader in Syria, The Syrian people have hope to rebuild their country, and they started to return to their country already. As we have in Egypt many Syrian people are returning back to Syria after the war had end, So l think the powerful and big countries should start helps support stability in Syria.
Thanks for reading🌹
The recent crowning of Donald Trump as the President of USA can be considered as a turning point not only for USA but at the global level. There are a number of reasons which are indicative of this.
First term of Donald Trump as President was from 2017 to 2021. During his first term, he was the first President who was impeached twice and due to his aggresive and provocative attitude, twitter permanently banned his account. But the series of executive orders signed by him are a clear indication of turning point in contrast to his first Presidentship which was comparatively less problematic.
The major agenda of Trump is "America for Americans" and for this he signed the order which ended the birthright citizenship for people born in the U.S. to parents without permanent legal status , thus creating a condition of chaos among the migrants living in America.
Other major decision taken by him withdrawing from the Paris climate Agreement which will have great impact on climate.
Trump has also ended the funding to a number of nations which he considered as waste of Americans tax money.
Therefore his tenure will definitely be the turning point.
If we closely observe, we can find many small turning points in the news. But the big ones are the ones which decide upon large objectives. What I think now that still is important as a turning point in the news is the future of the world.
What I mean is that we see each day, conflicts happening about religion, ethnicity and in between countries . But sooner or after this will become into a large war, a war affecting the mental and physical health of the civilians. We see nuclear threats here and there, and if there is a nuclear war, the world would END within the first FEW minutes from the start, because of attacks and their counters. So we humans, should not debate on small basis's as if things get heated up, no good outcome will be observed.
To do this, we shall first start with ourselves, then spread awareness from one another, try to make our community conscious of the consequences of the domination which might be caused and together make the world a better place.
THANK YOU
A very big problem nowadays in many countries is that there is a housing crisis. It is very expensive to buy or even rent a house. Those who are able to rent, usually spend all their money in doing so and cannot save money for buying a house, marrying or having children. As a result young people leave the nest very late compared to their predecessors, live in sometimes bad conditions and share places or rooms with several people. Therefore, as people can't buy houses, marry or have children, the natality rate is getting lower and this will affect economies, pensions and so. For me the solutions for this crisis are: for the government to reduce bureaucracy so private companies and the government can use more land for building, the government should build more public or social houses and reduce taxes for the working population and small businesses so there are more entrepreneurs and workers can have higher pays. This I think will help the situation.
Looking at modern cities today, we can see that they face many issues that make them difficult to live in. Pollution, traffic jams, overcrowding, and lack of green spaces are just some examples. As cities get bigger, these problems get worse and that is making life harder for citizens and is also harming the environment. One solution is to leave old cities behind and build completely new environment-friendly ones. An example of this is the city 'The Line', a well-known project based in Saudi Arabia. This city is designed to be modern and sustainable, with zero cars and only renewable energy. It will use the latest technology to make life for people easier and more efficient while being good for the planet. So, the important question is should we start from beginning or try to improve what we already have?
Today I saw a news about Syria in the news paper. They said the Assad family had took the power over the Syrians. The buildings, houses, schools and hospitals were destroyed by the Assad family.
I would like to talk about Syria’s turning point. The Assad family have escaped Syria after a civil war and now a rebel group leader (Ahmed al-Sharaa) has taken over. He has promised to make Syria a happier place with more freedom but can we trust him? Citizens are at a turning point of whether to reject Ahmed al-Sharaa or accept him. Syrians could hold an election to keep it fair, they could decide amongst themselves, they could ask another country to decide or keep him as president. Whatever choice they make, it is a turning point in Syria and they have to decide what to do. There are going to be pros and cons in every decision the people make and no choice is going to be fully right or wrong. However, they need to take action. It’s a turning point so will the people of Syria decide to see what the new government is like or tell them no? It’s up to Syria t9 decide.
Another turning point I feel would benefit Syria greatly is if they had an election to select a new leader for their government. If the people of Syria have a leader that the majority of the people have selected and are happy with, hopefully people will feel safer and happier in the country, and less people will feel they have to seek asylum. Having an ethical government would also tackle other ethical concerns such as poverty and famine and the rebuilding of destructed buildings.
I think the most recent and major turning point is what happened 2-3 days ago. A Kumbh Mela is being organised in India (it is held once every 12 years and is organised on only 4 places in the whole India!). This huge Hindu festival means a lot to Indians, this is basically related to religious beliefs and mythological stories. This is considered to be a very holy and pure festival. But what happened recently is jaw dropping and might be a turning point for our currect ruling party (BJP). So, over 296.4 million people were a part of this 2025 Maha Kumbh Mela, there was a lot of rush and crowd surge resulting to deaths and injuries (over 30 people dead and 60+ injured). This shocking and saddening news is being linked to our current ruling party BJP (because of their carelessness, people blame them for not being able to control overcrowding ) by the critics and might be a setback for them.
i think that that the biggest decision right now for syria is to try and hold an election to pick a leader for there country because this might help them regenerate there county and rebuild hospitals schools and houses to build sustanable living situations for people and give them a range of jobs so that syrian people can get back on there feet and live a good life . but a
As a Syrian myself a turning point for me is the fall of the Assad Regime and how he killed our people. I will mention my story and why I'm so happy In 2011 it started when the Arab spring started and people against the regime would be killed and while protests happened against the Assad there were protests with the Assad. My Dad was a professional Doctor and he was against Al Assad as well my Mum one day in 2012 my father was questioned if he was against the Assad and he had to lie because if he did not he would be put in prison. My Dad escaped to Qatar and left my Mum in Syria , after she escaped to Egypt and gave birth to me. Then my father got a Job in the UK where I'm now. I'm really happy because Assad has been overthrown and from yesterday it has been official that Ahmed-Al-Sharaa is now our official president.
Thank you for sharing your experience with us. What do you think the future holds for Syria?
A global action that I think should be taken presently which is a turning point should be for the CLIMATE CHANGE and GLOBAL WARMING issue which the world is grappling with. For this, the best solution could be to reduce carbon emissions. This excessive CO2 present in atmosphere is disturbing the proportion of AIR, which has become a turning point for globe and could lead Earth to experience it's doomsday soon. On an individual level l think each capita could reduce their electricity consumption by at least 20% each month which could reflect in proper air proportion all together.
One of the turning point I came across the news is the global shift in water resources. Many countries are facing extreme droughts and water shortages, forcing governments to make big decisions about how to manage water. For example in 2024, the united nations warned that by 2030 the world could face a 40% shortage of fresh water if no action is taken. Countries like India, china, and U.S are investing in desalination plants, water recycling and stricter conservation laws. However, in some regions, like the Middle East and Africa, water scarcity is leading to conflicts and forced migration.
One of the biggest issues in the world today is misinformation and fake news. False information spreads quickly on social media, making people believe things that are not true. This can lead to condition, fear, and even violence. In 2024, during elections in the u.s, India , and Brazil fake news spread widely with false claims about voting machines, election fraud and candidates. This caused protests and made people lose trust on democracy. In Africa, misinformation has led to confusion and instability in countries like Niger. In Europe false reports about the war in Ukraine have mislead people about what is really happening. Social media plays a big role in this problem because fake news spreads faster than real news and making it harder for people to know what’s real. To solve this, it’s important for people to to become better at checking the facts before sharing anything online. Individuals can play a big role by questioning what they see, reading news from trusted sources, and not spread things that haven’t verified. In my opinion, If we do nothing, misinformation will continue to divide societies and create chaos. But if we take responsibility now we can make sure that truth and facts shape our world instead of lies.
Thank you :)
A big turning point in the U.S. right now in 2025 is the impact of the 2024 presidential election. The country is divided, and the new policies are being made on issues like immigration, healthcare, and climate change. People are watching closely to see how these decisions will shape the future.Another major issue is the rising cost on living.Prices for food, housing, and gas are still high, and many families are having a hard time to afford basic needs. The government is debating new plans to help lower cost, but not everyone agrees on the best way to fix the problem. These events are shaping the U.S. right now and could have a lasting effect on the future.
I watch CNN 10 and hey say on the news that Syria is reaching the highest turning point.Coy states that Syria after decades and decades is finally moving forward. Finally reaching their potential instead of being shut down by the leader. They are able to grow as a country because of Ahmad the new leader.I think this man is able to rebuild Syria but not knock it down like Assad did.
Right now, a turning point is AI and sustainability. We have two choices: make progress with AI or instead be sustainable. They are quite difficult choices but I would choose to make progress with artificial intelligence. This is because AI isn’t the same as a computer and takes in knowledge that we tell them until it is like a super brain. With that knowledge, AI can use it to find solutions to things like climate change. Even though AI produces thousands of tons of electronic waste, we will soon be able to overpower that with AI’s resolutions to climate change and other things that are not sustainable. And if we can overpower AI’s waste then the world will become better and more sustainable. However, if this does become a problem then maybe we can manufacture AI using green energy. Then as well as having the cleverness of AI we can have sustainability as well. That can solve our turning point with AI.
In my view, the turning point for Syria's journey to recover from the war should not be rushed as the residents need time to think and there are around 16 million homeless people who need to be taken care of immediately. Also, people should consider building hospitals and schools since they have all been bombed. For now it is not the time to decide for the president and for the governmental issues because it is not something urgent and extremely important. Finally, other countries should help Syria economically (ex. to restructure the country) as Syria does not have the ability to do that.
One of the turning points I saw yesterday at the news was the announcement of Ahmed Al sharaa being the official president of Syria. Despite the disagreements that happened between the syrian people about who should lead the country, the decision of letting Ahmed Al Sharaa lead the country was quite quick. He has declared himself as president for the Syrian country from now on. In my opinion, this situation is a bit strange to me as it happened very quickly. I think is a turning point that should be discussed as it the whole fiture of Syria will depend on this big decision. Will this decision support the syrian rights?
What I think people should take action about is climate change. I think climate change is very harmful for us, animals, plants, etc…
Animals are harmed the most because of extinction that is caused by the changes in habitats that are also caused by climate change. An example is storms and rain.
By the time climate changes it continues to warm and species scramble to keep pace.
When I think of turning points the only thing comes to my mind is partition. It’s actually a national issue but I believe most of you might have heard about it . It’s when India was divided into Pakistan and Hindustan. Many leaders tried various things but were unsuccessful in stopping this. This lead to major turning points like can you believe 2 different countries out of one. It changed everything - the way government works, currency, religious activities, beliefs basically everything.
For a few weeks now, all I hear on the news, social media, and in school is the increasing risk for immigrant deportation. This all began not too long ago, when a local school nearby reported seeing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) near their campus. At first, many believed this was fake, in fact, the news itself claimed it was all a misunderstanding. Unfortunately, these rumors were brought to light and were discovered to be true. This sent my entire city and the whole state into turmoil. Many immigrants including people I know, were full of fear and terror and refused to leave their homes. This led to many hispanics gathering together and performing marches around my city, walking from place to place, holding their flags, wearing t-shirts of their origin, dressing in tradition clothes, etc. Many Hispanics and Latinos are now facing a time where they need to make a big decision. Do we fight back with our words and wit? Do we remain in fear? Should we continue being shunned despite coming here for a better future and working our lives away, paying taxes, obeying the laws, and being good citizens? This isn't just a problem in my state, people of all origins and ethnicities, people who aren't white, are at risk and it is a topic that weighs heavy on my heart. I come from Latino descent, my parents came to this country with "The American Dream" in mind and they have worked so hard, they're kind people so yes, it angers me like many others. How can we just sit around, waiting for them to deport us back after all our years of hard work?
A global problem is gender discrimination. I think that women are not treated on the same level as men for example in jobs, women are getting salary which is lower than men working in the same job and women are still expected to stay at home, even in the 21st century. This gender discrimination problem still continues
Can you think of an example of a job where you think there is the biggest divide in men and women's salaries?
Hi Eva, I'd love to answer this question. Through my observation, I have seen that in my country, a field that hold gender pay gap is the aviation industry. In india, only 5-7% of women are there as pilots or work in the airlines and the whole industry is dominated by men, that is VERY unfair. Due to this, gender pay gap exists, men have higher pay because of their leadership roles and faster promotions than the posts that the women hold. The same thing goes with the space industry. We need to bring more women in these fields to overcome and break these barriers of discrimination and stereotype to create a more just, equitable and happy future for everyone!
A major turning point in the recent news is the global shift towards renewable energy. Many countries are deciding to reduce the usage of fossil fuel like coal and oil to fight climate change . For example in 2024 , the European Union made new rules to stop using coal by 2035 , and the United States introduced new policies to support solar and wind energy . This is important because these decisions will shape the future of the planet . If the countries act quickly , they can reduce pollution and slow down global warming . But if they delay , problems like extreme weather , rising sea levels , and lack of resources could become worse. Just like Syria is at the turning point after the end of the Assad regime , the world must carefully make decisions about energy to ensure a better future for everyone.
The problem that we must care about is the plastic pollution. It is the accumulation of plastic objects, particles, atoms, microbeads and micro plastic in the Earth's environments that affects the humans and even the animals and their habitats. Plastic also is a toxic substance that does not decay.
CAUSES OF THE PLASTIC POLLUTION
Microplastic can easily enter the food chains and webs. Producers are the living organisms that begin the food web. Some marine animals feed on the planktons (producer) but they see planktons as micro plastics consequently they will eat it. Then the accumulation of the micro plastic transfers through all the food webs. After that, when a sailor takes this fish and then sails it to people the micro plastic will enter the body of the humans. This will harm the human a lot furthermore it will cause to them a lot of diseases.
HOW CAN PEOPLE STOP PLASTIC POLLUTION?
Governments can put on fine and punishment for any adult who throw plastic in the environments moreover teachers, parents and families must advice the children not to throw away plastic and to use it more than one time (recycling). Governments also must put warnings and signs to guide people to the right path.
To conclude, all humans must act towards this calamity. In addition, do not forget that the change begins with you.
In my country , at B.C.E Egypt was I had composed it in two parts . In the east side there was a king called Mina . Who united the tar in3200 B.C.E and this was turning point in Egypt
In my opinion, I think the thing that we should take an action of is the earthquakes that sometimes happen, for example last year(2024) there was an earthquake in Turkey and Syria which nobody thought it was going to happen, it happened all of a sudden, and this made a big loss in both countries Turkey and Syria so in my opinion we should have helped both of the countries especially Syria because they already were in a war so they needed extra help now.
So this makes scientists study more for natural disasters to make sure if something will happen or not even if it's going to be at least 46% sure or not sure because we don't want to make any loss again hopefully.
Thank you topical talkers!
the big problem for the country is that we dont know how they would react to the news ?
I can think about if this war happens for even longer maybe people that live there can try and go to another country to getaway from what is happening around them in their country and then they can get schools and hospitals built again so that the injured people can go and get there injurys healed
In my opinion I think that people in Syria should all have a vote on what they want to happen in the country because some people could have a really big opinion could change a lot. Over 16 million Syrians are in need or intensive care because they have starved or they have got hurt, many people need medicines but cant get to it since many hospitals and schools have been blown up or set on fire. I also think they should re-build hospitals and schools because the children need schools because they are the future of the country and the hospitals because like i said a lot of people need help.
In my opinion I believe that the people of Syria should be allowed to be in charge of the country and set a election because think everyone should have the right to speak which is seen in the human rights chart, I think that because as they have been there and experienced the intimidation of there past ruler which took there right to speak and express there opinions. I think if we do this it can give them a democracy which a country does deserve.
another idea is that once the government has been elected they should focus on the heath of the people as this can increase the chance of buildings and schools the be built quicker as there would be more cities participating in he act from the growth of the country.
There have been many turning points in history and current events where important decision shaped the future. A few recent global examples include:
THE UKRAINE WAR AND ITS FUTURE: As the war continues, decisions on military aid, peace negotiations and rebuilding efforts will determine the fate of Ukraine and its people. For example, the recent approval of billions in military aid from Western countries has strengthened Ukraine's defense, while ongoing peace talks could shape the region's stability for years to come.
CLIMATE ACTION AND RENEWABLE ENERGY SHIFT: Many countries are making big decisions about phasing out fossil fuels, which could have long-term impacts on the environment and global economy. The European Union's pledge to reduce carbon emissions by 55% by 2030 and the U.S. Inflation Reduction Act, which invests heavily in clean energy, are key steps toward a more sustainable future.
ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE REGULATION: Governments and tech companies are debating AI policies to balance innovation with ethics and privacy. For instance, the EU's AI acts strict guidelines, while companies like OpenAI and Google advocate for responsible development.
In conclusion, these turning points highlight how key decisions made today will shape the future for countries, economies and technology. As global challenges continue to evolve, the choices make by governments, businesses and individuals will determine the direction of our world for years to come.
My country/Egypt has a deep history that spans over almost 5000 years and within that time many, many turning points have happened but in this comment i will be explaining one.
One of the first turning points was around 3150 B.C.E when king narmer unified egypt.
Long ago, there was an upper Egypt and a lower Egypt both kingdoms had their own crown colour, symbol, capital and an idol. the north had (بوتو)as their capital they had (نبات البردي) which was the plant they used to make paper back then. The cobra as their idol and red as their crown colour. While the south had(نخب) as their capital they had the lotus flower as their symbol their crown was white and their idol was a female eagle.
In 4242 bc the north kingdom succesfully united egypt under their rule but eventually this union failed and they became two kingdoms once again. Later in 3200 bc narmer the mayor/king of (طيبة) succesfully united them once again. He built the city of (من-نفر) so that it can be the capital he also wore both of the crowns combines to show that he had united them.
Now,that was one of Egypts turning point and there are many more that are very interesting so you can read and discover about them yourself.
Today, the american president Donald Trump has said that talks with Vladimir Putin about ending the war in Ukraine are taking place. If Trump is able to achieve his goals, this would be a major historial event. Not only because all the promises he made during the american elections campaing would be real when many people doubted his words, but also because this would mean that Trump is actually one of the most powerful and influential people of modern history. Therefore, under Trump's power, the USA's global dominance would be assured again. However, it is difficult to know if something will come out of these talks and it seems improbable that Trump ends the war so easily but nobody really knows.
Can you say what your opinion is about this topic? We want to hear your point of view!
First of all, I think that even though Ukrainians have a right to continue with the war if peace means giving territory to Russia (which for some could be seen as a loss for them), a devastating war for Ukraine and both of the countries's populations (as many Ukrainian cities and infrastructure has been destroyed and many Ukrainians as well as Russians have died or suffered), for all European economies and their population (as we all have suffered inflation and high energy prices because of the war) has been taking place for three years. This means, that I believe everyone involved in this situation should be opened to consider any option for a peaceful end to this war. Now, talking about Trump, many people and I include myself, doubted that Trump would actually do all what he promised but now the situation is different. Think about the ceasefire between Hamas and Israel. According to Trump, he was the one who pressured Israel to accept the agreements and he promised that before he got to the White House, a ceasefire would happen. If this is true, Trump may have the influence and the power to do the same in Ukraine. When Trump said he would send illegal immigrants back to Colombia or Mexico, the presidents of these countries said they wouldn't accept it, but Trump had enough power as President to send them back. Trump has power and intentions, as he has repeatedly said that he doesn't want to send more money to Ukraine. I think this is not only because Trump cares more about the USA, but also because he may not want the war to escalate and have another Vietnam or Irak.
Indonesia has had 8 presidents since the declaring independence in 1945. After the deposition of Soekarno from his presidency, Soeharto was elected and became the second president of Indonesia. Soeharto served as presidents for 32 years (really long period). In the beginning of his presidency era, everyone loved him. He built many infrastructure across Indonesia. However, this long tenure started to cause suspicion and distrust from the people because Soeharto was allegedly involved in corruption activities.
Syria is at a big turning point after the Assad regime ended. The choices made now will decide the country's future.
I'm also thinking about other news stories. Like Japan, where the prime minister's popularity is rising. This could change the country's direction.
India's economy is growing, which is a big turning point for the country. This growth can bring new opportunities and challenges.
The world is also dealing with migration issues. Germany is making big decisions about its migration policies. These choices will affect not just Germany, but all of Europe.
These stories show how important turning points are. They can change the future for individuals, communities, and countries.
The news that I would like to hear about Syria in the next 6 months are that the new government would be more inclusive than the previous one that could allow the country to become more democratic. However if I have to be honest, I think that the future of the Syria seems complicated, because although the country is trying to rebuild itself, there is still the Russia and the Iran that continue to support pro-Assad groups to keep the control on the country.
Of course the new governor of Syria is a turning point, especially for Syria but also for the world. Indeed, the bashar al-assad regime’s getting down gives a new era.
First of all, maybe the syrians will be finally free and stop being persecuted, but for this, only the time will give an answer, we don’t know yet what the leader of this military group has planed and what his capable of.
Secondly, It’s maybe the end of the collaboration between Syria and Russia and the beginning of a new relationship with other countries like USA. If political agreements are performed, a new world can possibly existed, even if Syria does not have so much power and influence today. I’ m not saying it’s a bad or good thing, but I just make an observation that can not be reject. Bashar al-assad getting swiped offer so many possibilities for the futur of Syria, so in consecuencies, for the world.
I think that Syria turning points can be in many things like inventing new machines and have new cities and streets so that it becomes from the helping of the countries like Russia, Qatar and USA. Syria can also turn in also their building and in using AI in it so it can be a wonderful like a lot of countries. Syria should build their houses again and extra because it can let the people that do not have any house could live their. Syria is a good country and we should help it more and more so it can be like Germany or France or any another wonderful country.
the best way to share it to people is by creating a poster to say what is going on so then they can tell other people so that they havent got to go though what the other people in syria have been through so far and it not fair that other people have to go through what other people have been through its not fair syrian people dont deserve to go through what they have already been through more than once
One turning point I think everyone should their heads towards is Global Warming/Climate Change. Personally, the effects of these topics are horrible and something must happen to change it.
Following Climate Change (when greenhouse gas emissions trap the sun’s heat within our atmosphere) there are several negative impacts that have occured such as; more severe storms, leaving many people homeless due to destruction; an increase in drought, leaving thousands of families without essentials like water; and even sea level rising, which leads to coastal erosion. These are only human effects, there are also several ways animals suffer too because of this. A lack of food and water for animals leads to populations dwindling and habitats are destroyed all around the world. Also disease is much more likely to occur within ecosystems which is very unhygenic and dangerous. The problem doesn’t just effect us but animals and habitats aswell which is why I think this topic is overlooked and is crucial to solve for a safer and brighter future. We can help in many ways by reducing the amount of fuel transport, for example taking bike rides or walking perhaps to places. We can also reduce the amount of deforestation and hopefully find much more effective and sustainable ways.
If we work together as a society, eventually this issue would be resolved or so little that we can then focus on resolving even more problems around the world such as inequality within the workplace.
Many people and animals suffer due to Global Warming and we must think, is this good for the future and fair?
Yesterday, a teenager was murdered in a small Austrian town by a Syrian citizen in what it is know regarded as a jihadist attack. It is not the first thing something like this happen, but it is causing a political turning point in Europe. We are in a time when anti-establishment and anti-immigration parties are increasing their supporters. In Austria, the respective ''far-right'' party won the last elections. It is probably because of people who are acting this way and giving a bad name to the rest of immigrants. If this types of attacks continue to happen, many people will get angrier about the situation. It is true not every immigrant is a bad person and that many of them have good purposes, but that doesn't mean that all immigrants integrate well into society. They may come from a place with different backgrounds or cultural values that are not compatible with life at Europe. If governments don't want all immigrants to be hated unfairly, they could be more careful with who they are letting in. They also have to be careful with integration and not marginalizing people. For example, many Scandinavian countries with left-leaning governments, are being harder on immigration because they have now realized they accepted many people from places different to Europe, and they failed on integrating them into society, which resulted on the creation of ghettos where people had to get money (sometimes by illegal activities) or live excluded from society. this may be another cause for terrorism and radicalism. This happened all-over Europe and it is a cause of this turning point.
Other turning points in the news: Russia's invasion of Ukraine (2022 - present): A conflict that has changed the global geopolitical landscape and continues to have economic, military, and humanitarian repercussions. The climate crisis: 2024 has witnessed extreme temperature records, leading to more drastic measures in terms of environmental regulations and renewable energy. Artificial intelligence and its regulation: The advancement of AI has generated debates about its impact on employment, privacy and security, forcing governments and companies to make key decisions about its use. Local history involving a big decision: It will depend on the country or city, but in Colombia, for example, it could be peace negotiations with armed groups, government reforms, or changes in human rights and security policies. A global problem that requires immediate action: Climate change: The need to reduce carbon emissions and prepare for climate disasters is urgent.
Migration crisis: Millions of people displaced by conflict and economic problems need humanitarian solutions.
Social and economic inequality: The gap between rich and poor continues to grow, leading to tensions and inequalities in access to essential resources.
