Why do countries give aid?

Hub discussion - International aid

International aid is money, supplies or expertise given to help people in other countries.

What do you think is the biggest reason why countries give international aid? Is it mainly to help others, to benefit themselves, to make up for past actions — or for another reason?

  • Countries give aid for a few main reasons.
First, they want to help people in need. Aid can provide food, clean water, healthcare or support after natural disasters. This can save lives and reduce poverty.
Second, aid can help countries become more stable. When countries are safer and stronger, there may be less war, disease and people forced to leave their homes. This benefits the whole world.
Finally, countries may give aid because it helps their own interests. Aid can improve relationships with other countries and support trade or security.

    1. I highly agree with unparalleled_radio those could be the main reasons why a country sends aid. Additionally in my opinion I think sending aid could also help with debt and also with economic growth to both countries. So not only by sending aid your helping the other country you could also be helping yourself without even knowing it. Lastly just like unparalleled_radio said sending aid could help build trust and goodwill with the country and maybe even save lives.

  • I think countries give aid mainly because it keeps them safe from getting ill and maybe even going into major surgery. One reason for my view is that when I watched the topical talk power point I noticed that it is best for everyone around the world to get the right amount of aid. However, others might think that other people might not

    1. I totally agree with your comment awesome_truth, if a country gives aid to other contries is for making a type of alliance with it, and if at one moment your contry needs help, most of the times, the country taht you helped before will help you now and also, if other countries see that you have a type of alliance with a coutry, they will not atack you because if they attack, they will know the consequences. Also, if you give aid to a country, if there is any type of crisis in this country, the contry that you helped will help you stop the crisis by letting you the right things that you need to stop it.

  • i think countries give aid mainly because they want to help people in need and help countries .one example for my view is because aid gives / provides you and or other people or countries food , clean water , healthcare , support and or shelter or even homes .however others might think the opposite of me because they probably believe that aid should be saved for their own country but what they do not know is that sharing is caring and that the world does no revolve around them

    1. I 100% agree with you strong_parrot because, other countries give aid to help people because, if it was them that was in need and nobody was willing to stretch out a helpful hand towards them they won't feel happy and will continue to live in fear because of the challenges they have and I am sure that no country would want to go through that experience. One example for my viewpoint is during the Russia-Ukraine War, Russia invaded into Ukraine's territory and began to cause trouble and challenges for Ukraine that they could not handle, so the American government sent billions of dollars to Ukraine to help them. The American government also gave them newly equipped weapons like guns, drones, bombs etc. So countries give aid to mostly help other countries, by doing that they can also benefit from the they give aid to, in areas like trade, technology and intelligence, without even expecting to get it. Thank You!!.

    2. I agree with you because according to what you said aid is mainly to help so in my opinion aid is an equipment or substance that gives help to people. there are some reasons that I think aid should be given
      1) because houses and properties have been destroyed .
      2) because lives had been lost.
      3) Lack of food, clean water, electricity, and shelter.
These are the reasons why aid should be given to individuals in conclusion I want to say that aid should be given to people because a lot of them need survival and care to survive.

    3. I agree because many countries such as Gaza and Ukraine need water and aid to survive . They also get some kind of aid from really nice and efficient people. These people who help other countries really are heroes. Some people may disagree with me but really what if it was you . You would be begging other people just to give you food and water for you to survive. You would be homeless , getting bombs put on top of your head . If you were in those conditions, how would you feel ? I know you would really be upset , having your family die in front of your face ! That is how others are feeling right now ! So ,I really agree with you !
Your explanation is truly marvellous !

    4. I do believe that you are right with what your saying .

  • Those are interesting points Unparalleled radio. Do you think there are any reasons where countries giving aid maybe for negative reasons?

  • In my opinion, I think countries give aid to other countries mainly for various reasons. They give aid to enhance their own security, to prevent friendly governments from falling under the influence of unfriendly ones, to relieve war, to help a country gain diplomatic recognition and so much more. One example is, an organisation called the International Narcotics Control Program, which allocates the United States to fund countries to fight illegal drug production, which I can say its very useful to the world, given the health related disasters we face daily. However, others might think that international or foreign aid is nothing more than a tool of influence of donor countries. For example, the public poll opinion of the United States say that international aid consumes about 20% of the countries' budget, but for me, it actually depends on what they use it for. If it is valuable and helpful, it doesn't matter how much money used because they would equally benefit from it at the end. On the other hand, I think international aid is very useful and effective and we should learn to use it for the betterment of the world, not using it to bring us to our demise.

  • So I would just highlight in my own point of view why countries give aid to their fellow countries.
NATIONAL SECURITY : Aid is used to stabize regions , preventing conflict or state collapse that could pose security threats. For example on the 25th of December 2025, the U.S.A sent strikes to an Islamic state militant that has been terrorising persons in the country because the Nigerian government saw that them involving the U.S.A in the defeat of that terrorist group will be good.

BUILDING ALLIANCES AND INFLUENCE : Providing aid is a key diplomatic tool to gain support in international oranizations like the UN , secure military base rights , or ensure a friendly government stays in power. for example the UN provide a base in South Sudan to monitor peace processes and protect civilians.

    COUNTERING COMPETITORS
This is to prevent nations from falling under the influence of rivals. For example the Ukraine and Russia war. aids are being sent to Ukraine to prevent Russia from taking over parts of the country.
These are my reasons . And I think if aid is being supplied to countries suffering from one problem to another I think racism, critism and other vices amongs countries will be curbed. Thank you

  • I think country’s give aid because there are positive outcomes for them and positive outcomes for the other country. Let me explain what I mean.

The country giving the aid will strengthen alliances and give them almost a safety net if they get into a war because the other country will most likely give help back.

The country receiving the aid is getting help to improve the country or to help the country with medical care or to help getting out of a war. For example, Ukraine is currently in a war with Russia and Ukraine is getting plenty of help to stay strong.

    1. I agree to this because, countries give aid because it creates mutual benefits. The receiving country gets support to solve important problems, while the donating country gains political influence, economic opportunities, and greater global stability.

  • I think countries give international aid mainly to help each other. When a country needs support, others should be ready to help. One reason for my view is that we often see countries sending food, money or doctors after natural disasters like earthquakes.
    Here are my reasons...

    1. We all live on the same planet. If one country has a disease , everyone should help stop it because the problem may spread to other countries.

    2. Countries share aid because we are all humans. It does not matter if a country is big or small or what our skin color is. 👩🏻=👩🏿

    3. Aid sent for education, clean water and training helps children grow up to become successful people who can build their future.

    4. For example, during the war in Palestine people needed urgent help. So, Egypt sent lots of aid trucks to support them. This shows that neighbors care about each other.

However, others might argue that countries give aid mainly to benefit themselves, such as gaining power, influence or good relationships with others.

In conclusion, I think that aid is very important and should not be ignored. It helps countries support each other and makes it possible for everyone to live safely and happily.

    Thanks for reading!!!
Hope my opinion is clear for everyone ☺️

    1. Countries should assist each other so that in case there is a problem like a disease and the country needs support from other countries they will be assist one other which helps in the effective and rapid solution to that problem.

    2. I am truly impressed by your comment and maturity. There is no surprise to me that you earned 3 stars. I love that you used your own country as an example too! I also agree with your point of benefit. If a country gifts financial aid to another, it could earn global respect for the gifting country, but behind the scenes, there could be a lot more to it than that. The gifting country could know that if they give millions, if not billions, of currency, this will cause the receiving country to rely solely on aid, not giving them the space to grow and rebuild a sense of independence, meaning the gifting country could advance up the leader board in terms of power. They could also know that they will receive all that money back, because, legally, they have to.

This doesn't actually help any country in need. In fact, this could cause the country to go bankrupt and just increase global inequality, which is often the root cause of many national and international devastations such as poverty, war, disease and so much more.

This also means a lack of justice for the citizens of the country receiving aid as their government will have to pay millions, if not billions, back and will be left with nothing to provide for their peoples' basic needs. Once again, this just increases global inequality, especially poverty.

I also agree that we should share aid because we are all humans. It doesn't matter if a country is big or small, our religion or what race we are. We should all be treated with equity and respect, as we all HAVE to share this Earth we've been gifted.

    3. Hello,prodigious_moon,
I agree with many of your ideas because I also believe that countries often give international aid to help people in difficult situations. When there are earthquakes, floods or wars, we see countries sending food, doctors and money. For example, during the conflict in the Gaza, aid trucks from Egypt carried supplies to people who needed urgent help. This shows care and responsibility between neighbors.

However, I would also like to share an opposite idea so we can think more deeply. Some people believe that countries sometimes give aid to benefit themselves. For instance, powerful countries might give money to build strong friendships, increase trade or gain influence in world decisions. This means aid can be both kind and strategic at the same time.

In geography, we learn that the world is connected. If one country faces disease, conflict or climate disasters, it can affect others too. Helping another country can also protect your own country in the future. So aid is not always only about kindness; it can also be about safety and planning ahead.

I think the most realistic answer is that countries give aid for a mixture of reasons. They want to help people, but they also think about their own interests. The world is complex, and decisions are rarely made for just one reason.

Thank you for sharing your thoughtful opinion. It helped me think more carefully about both sides of the issue.

      1. Hi resplendent_blueberry!!

Thank you for your reply, I really liked your point about the world being connected and how aid can be about safety and planning ahead, not just kindness. But there is a question that is playing in my mind.
Do you think that countries should still give aid even if it only benefits themselves, as long as it still helps people who are suffering?

What I mean is that even if countries give aid to build strong friendships, increase trade or gain influence in world decisions , it is still helping the poor and that is the most important thing.

For example, during the war, the United States has given aid to both Palestine and Israel. This may be to build things for themselves in the future, as you mentioned, or it could be kindness to help the people who are suffering on both sides.

To wrap it up, I think that while aid might build influence, its main purpose should always be to help countries in need.

  • International aid actually depends on who it's going to, meaning, that for example let's say that Egypt has a good amount of international aid and Palestine is in need for this aid, so, here is going to be the tricky part, for example let's say that Palestine has a past conflict with Egypt and they are not really good with each other, so then it depends on what Egypt will think, if Egypt thinks that they will not give their aids to countries they don't even like, Palestine will not get the aid. However, if Egypt decided to be kind and give their aid to Palestine then that's mainly going to lead to a truce between them both, now this is only an example and it's not true Egypt and Palestine are really good countries together.
So in the past paragraph we saw that it depends on both countries, the country which has the aid, and the country needing the aid. And we saw negative and positive reactions the negative was that Egypt will not give the aid because they had a past conflict with Palestine and the positive was that Egypt decided to make a truce between them both by giving the aid. However, people might also think that certain countries only use aid for the people they like and they could even name these countries the arrogant countries, because in this generation everyone is mainly looking for their own good nobody's looking for someone else's good so people might think that countries will leave their aid to themself so when they are injured or needing it there will be help, but this is absolutely wrong .
    Bye!

  • To me, nations offer help because it's both the right thing to do and a clever move – truly a win-win.Something like when you help fight a disease in another country. When we send vaccines or doctors to places far away, sure, it saves lives there, but it also really keeps illnesses from getting into our own neighborhoods. It’s like helping a neighbor put out a fire before the wind carries it to your door.I just think compassion and common sense often go hand in hand.
I get why folks might be a bit skeptical, though. It sometimes seems like aid is just a tool for making nice with big countries, or getting hands on things like oil and crops. And honestly, history shows that's sometimes true.Sometimes help comes with conditions, and that doesn't really feel fair at all.
At its core, I believe the best aid really comes down to our shared humanity.Yeah, governments should definitely look out for their own citizens' safety and job security. But they can totally do that in a way that helps other people, too. When you truly help someone, it's not about making them rely on you forever. It's about giving them what they need so they can create their own path forward. When we strike that proper balance, we're doing more than just giving aid; we're actually building stronger, more connected communities all over the world, and that's a goal worth going for.

  • Hello Topical Talkers.
I think that countries give international aid mainly because they want to protect and incraese their own influence around the world. One example I have seen is that how some countries provide aid to nations that are strategically important for trade, military or political reasons. This doesn't mean they don't care about people who need help, but it shows that notional interest often plays a big role in the decision.
However, others might think that countries give aid mainly to help people in need, especially during natural disasters or crises. For instance, when a country sends emergency food or medical supplies after a hurricane or earthquake, it clearly saves lives and supports recovery. Some people believe this is the real motivation behind the international aid, and that political reasons are secondary.
For me, the truth is probably a mix of both. Aid can genuinely help people, but it's also influenced by politics, economics and global strategy. I think it's important to be aware of both sides, so we can understand how international aware really works and what drives countries to provide it.
    Thanks for reading!

  • Hi all,
I personally think that countries give aid because they want to help either their country or others with things such as food, water and safe places for people to live in during a crisis. For example, in recent geography lessons, my year group has been learning about a charity called Goat Aid. This is a group of people who offer goats to those in need meaning that they can produce milk for themselves, use their fur for warmth and/or clothing and they can gain money from selling these items to pay back the money for the goats later on. It can be used by many people but we mostly here about it in Tanzania. This a good way to provide aid to people who need it most because it allows them to keep healthy, helps them survive from the produce of the goat and can allow them to earn money to afford necessities that they may not have been able to use.

Charity's like this are here to help anyone who may need it which is a great way to help the community around them and support people's lives.

This is why countries give aid to those who need it.
    Thank you for reading

  • I reckon countries give international aid mainly because they want to help others. Many countries face everyday wars, famine natural disasters and they need someone that provides them food, money or even doctors for achieving it. Nevertheless, others might consider that it's better not to help if there is nothing in return, which is what mostly happens in many countries nowadays. However, honestly, helping others for solidarity is what makes a country good and demonstrate values that we should have as the humans we are.

    1. Hi reflective_Iynx, we see eye to eye due to the fact that as you have said, nowadays a lot of countries are suffering a lot from economic problems or conficts with other countries. However some countries wants things in return or just they don´t want to lose resources and money and this is becaming a problem because small countries that cant be self-sustainable suffer lots of casualities and are begining to disappear.

  • I think countries give aid mainly to help other poorer countries develop and/or to advance their own strategic, economic and political interests. Both of these are done equally as much, even though it depends on context and place. An example for my view is the West African Ebola outbreak in 2014. The US and EU funded major humanitarian assistance to stop it from going global, also Qatar's aid to the Middle East and North Africa strongly driven by humanitarian need with little link to commercial purposes. Although there are still times when aid is mostly given from a place of Self-Interested Reasons. However others might think that aid is given for humanitarian assistance only.

  • I didn’t really understand what aid is at first, but when I looked into it deeper, I found out that it’s when the government from one country gives money to another country (correct me if I’m wrong). And I think that shows how topical talk stretches our knowledge and invests us into political things or others.
It could be for helping other countries if you’re an ally, but I think with some countries, it might have a deeper meaning. Like maybe bribery for something they’ve done previously, or trying to patch up old mistakes or wars and problems. As I said, I don’t understand this very much, but I think it’d be interested if there was some hidden meaning.

    1. I think you have understood aid correctly! Countries give aid for a variety of reasons, including to support a country struggling, to form an alliance of nations with similar perspectives to themselves, and many other reasons!

  • I have multiple reasons why people give aid. Sometimes they do so because they want to impress or sometimes they just want to give aid and be more helpful and others just make up for past actions. For example, if country A got attacked by country B, county B will realize their bad actions after some time and they would like to give aid to make up for their actions. Mostly people usually like to impress others because most people are too cocky and when people praise them for their actions and people will give more aid to get more praise and the people getting the aid do not realize so they just keep on praising the person while the person is enjoying it.
Ideally people who just give aid without expecting anything in return are people who just wants to give aid without attaching anything to it but they reality is that most Western countries attach unwritten conditions to receiving countries. Some of the conditions include mineral exploitation, building a military base, etc. Aids should be given without conditions attached to them.

  • I think countries mainly give aid because there is some people who live in countries and there tons of natural disasters happening and they will need some support. But some countries lie about having natural disasters and then they get more aid for no reason. Also the country who is giving away the aid need to think about who they are giving it to because some countries are in serious danger and need tons of support and for a example aid gives food, clean water and shelter , so that’s why aid is important.

    1. Hi free_explanation - could you give examples of where you think countries have lied about natural disasters in order to receive aid?

  • I think countries give aid mainly because of eceonom. They give aids to create future customers. It is sometimes called "Tied Aid". If a country helps another country build electricity grids or internet infrastructure, the country is more likely to buy the donor's technology in the future. Aid can be like a down payment for access to the country's mineral resources.
One of the example of this is the Food for Peace program. The US government had bought surplus grain from American farmers and sent it to developing countries. This did not just feed the hungry people, it prevented crop prices from crashing due to oversupply. It also created long term customers for U.S. agriculture business.

  • I think countries give out aid to save lives and reduce suffering often caused by sudden disasters. These aids provide immediate food , water and even medical supplies after earthquakes or disease outbreaks. They also help to fund education, healthcare and infrastructure to help developing nations.
A typical example was during the Ebola outbreak in West Africa in 2014 to 2016, countries like UK and US sent medical teams and equipment to Sierra Leone and Liberia to contain the virus.
Although it is believed that when a country receives free food or supplies indefinitely, it can unintentionally destroy local markets.

  • Hello I am triumphant insect, and I think that countries give aid because if one countries struggling everyone in the world struggles and if everyone struggles it would be CHAOS! But even your area is struggling financially it’s still good to give a helping hand to other areas . You should always think about the statement treat your neighbour as yourself .
    Bye 😄

    1. Thank you for your comment, triumphant_insect - helping others is an important reason to supply aid, but can you think of any other reasons a country might send aid to another?

  • I think countries give aid to help them out and to help them fight back in a war for an example Russia started a war with Ukraine and countries like England,Poland and America gave Ukraine aid to fight back and win the war.

    1. I agree because countries should help eachother out in times of need e.g war or natural disaster

    2. I agree with you,
Lot's of countries give aid to gain allies

  • In my opinion, countries give aid as gifts of respect and dignity even if your fund is issuing. When corrupted countries are not offering aid then we should always give them our aid hoping for nothing back as the first sign of world peace . Always giving aid is ideal as you should be able to support not just yourself , not just your country but the world only if we believe. 😊

  • I think countries should give aid but not to much that you have no more money left. Defensive is also very important, if there’s a war they will need to have defensive to help them survive. I think they are both very important we will need them both If theres a war.

  • I think countries give aid because aid supports countries after disasters or war. One example of this is Russian and the Ukrainian war when America gave Ukraine national aid which I heard about on BBC news.
However others might think international aid is given to help give countries advantage in war.

  • I think countries give aid mainly to encourage countries to vote a particular way in international bodies like the United Nations or to gain permission for military bases.
An example is Taiwan and China who have historically competed for recognition from smaller nations in the Pacific ad Caribbean by offering competing aid packages.

  • Sometimes aid is often an investment in future trade. By helping a country grow, the giving country creates a new market for its own goods and services.
An example is the China's Belt and Road Initiative gives massive loans and infrastructure projects across Africa and Asia. While this aids development, it also secures trade routes for Chinese goods and creates demand for China construction companies.

  • I think the main reason other countries give international aid is to help others. If other countries did not help each other out then they would not get the support back when they need it most. I think most people are kind and would want to help those who are suffering and try and make things better.

They also want to give aid to help out the nation. If two countries are at war, one of the countries may be at a disadvantage and require more aid to help their country. However others may think the countries only give aid to make themselves look better compared to the other countries.

  • I think the main reason countries give international aid is to help the other countries out. I think they want to help others as they have not done anything wrong and are in need of help. By giving aid they can provide the country with food, medical supplies, water and help safe lives and therefore reducing the amount of deaths.

  • I think countries mainly give aid because they want to help neighbouring countries so if there is something bad going around , it doesn't affect them. One reason for my view is if a neighbouring country to England has a virus going around, England would want to help that country because they don't want to catch the virus. However others may disagree with me as some countries may be friends or are supporting each other while one is in a war.

  • i think countries give aid so they don't want to get in war because there didn't give aid or they might want to grow there trust with other countries and if they get into war they might get aid from the countries that they gave.

  • Countries give aid so people who are in battle can get the help that they need
and they give medican to the people who are badly injured so they can carry on
and help fight for their country and the people who give them aid could be there aliys

  • countries give aid to comfort each other when they are in a rough time and or finding it hard .countries give aid mainly because we are all a part of the world and we are all a family .one reason for my view is because we are all working together .if one country has a disease it would be our mission to solve it .it dose not matter if we are not all the same ,it just means that we work together no matter what .if we do not help , people will be forced to leave their homes ! if one country has a disease ,would you A help them ,or would you B send a medical team or would you C build a barrier and help your country .

if you pick A or B you are a very kind ,caring person ,if you picked C i am just letting you know that you can not hide from that disease forever ,it WILL get to your country eventually.

  • Countries give aid for a few reasons.

One example or reason for my view is that they want to help people in need because aid can provide food, clean water, healthcare, or support after natural disasters. This can save lives and poverty.

Secondly, aid can can help countries rebuild house if they need wood, cement, and bricks.

Finally, countries may give aid because it promotes them so they help themselves and other people. Aid can improve relationships with other countries and supports trade security.

I believe this true because of the topical talk lessons.

  • Countries give aid to help people in need, but it does not always help correctly. Yes, aid can help provide natural needs like food or water, but it does not always work out. I think people should still give aid, but to be more careful when giving aid so The Prime Minister does not take it.

  • countries give aid for a good opinion from other countries and to get help at war with aid like money, weapons and food that they need ton win the war.

  • I think countries give aid mainly because if a country died out then they would be heavily criticised by surrounding countries like what happened to the captain of the Calofornian when the Titanic sunk. However others might feel differently because of what resources they are getting .

  • i think countries give aid mainly because in war combat or city destruction there citizens are very poor and cant live in nice lives but have to survive but many people die from this corruption and there is a chance of dying of starving or not enough medical help from professional doctor since there illness is very severe and hard to treat.one example for my view is the war in Pakistan or Russia or it can be floods in Japan and maybe even in Africa with the not so good support with aid and education.however people might disagree with me because they might need defence like wepons it is like the USA sending military wepons and even flying b2 bomers around to help its friend.

  • i think countries send aid maily because there allies or they might be repaying the country for something the other country has helped with. Some evidence to back my answer was when USA sent aid to Ukraine. I personally wouldn't send aid to a country because the other country might declare war

  • I think countries give aid mainly because they can help their soldiers regain their hunger thirst and heal untreated wounds during war. These aid can save lives because if aid never existed being in a war would be way harder because going out with no food drinks or bandages would probably cause death because of starving and dehydrated. And by giving aid they can provide the country with food, medical supplies, water and help save lives and therefore reducing the amount of deaths.

    1. I agree with you gracious editor , however, I want to add to you saying that mainly the reason is about the war. TAccording to the lesson , countries give aid for viruses, floods, and wars too . War is not the main reason countries give aid. There was a major flood and countries gave aid or send experts to help them.

  • I think countries give aid mainly because they want to help out struggling countries in need. My reason for my view is that aid can provide food, water, shelter, and other important necessities for living. However, others might think that aid should be saved for your own country in case something bad happens to it. I disagree with this because providing aid to other countries can also boost your country as well. An example of this

  • countries give aid because aid gives food, help and clean water and it helps the people in need and provides them with necessities. aid can help to also support natural disasters and help countries become more stable witch helps there to be no war and it benefits the world. Other countries will also think we are kind and will help us if we need help.

  • I think countries give aid for a for a couple of reasons, because aid provides food and clean water it keeps them safe after what happens to them. They get healthcare so if there injurer they will get treat meant. They give them tents so they have a place to live for a bit but if it does work they will stop providing aid.

  • I think countries give aid for a for a couple of reasons, because aid provides food and clean water it keeps them safe after what happens to them. They get healthcare so if there injurer they will get treat meant. They give them tents so they have a place to live for a bit but if it does work they will stop providing aid.

  • I think aid is given mainly because people need help and food that's why we have donor countries to give people money who do not have anything . They want to help people in need . Aid provides food , clean water , healthcare or support after natural disasters. This can save lives and reduce poverty. It makes other countries look down on us .

  • I think countries give or provide aid for many different reasons mainly for just wanting to help a fellow country, but also to possibly build relationships to prepare for the future. An example of this is giving other places food, water or healthcare and housing. But corruption is still quite common as well as self interest of donors. ( When a donor giving aid expects a gift in return.) However others may think aid is given for different ,more important reasons like saving aid for their own country. But, if that country was ever in trouble, there wouldn't be another place wanting to help them because of their selfishness.

  • I feel that the main Reason is that countries give aid to make up for wars or events from the past such as battles. another reason is to benefit themselves and to help their own needs and therefore it isn't to be kind. countries give aid so other countries give aid back to them when they need it.And also to make our country look kind.

  • Countries give aid for a lot of reasons:
    1. to get help in the future if they need aid
    2. to be helpful and make sure no one is suffering
    3. to get fame and loyalty
    4. to be helpful
    5. to build houses
    6. to get a profit for helping them
    7. to get known more as a leader and supporter
    8. to get forgiven for past actions

  • I think that countries mainly give their aid because then if they did not then lots of people would be angry at them and not want to help them when they need help. Plus if they did not it wouldn't be very nice. They also would probably want to do help out to make their country look good and that they are good donors.

  • I think countries give aid mainly because of other countries needs. One example or reason for my view is if another country is in a war or had a problem then they would need supply's like food, water and shelter or professional doctors.

  • i think countries give aid because other countries could help them and the more aid they give the more countries can give aid as well so its not on them all the time

  • I think countries give aid mainly to support others in different crises, such as, earthquakes, floods, wars and money shortages. Many countries are allies or some are enemies, but even then all countries should help and assist each other during hard times. One example for my view is countries like Africa who are desperately in need, or Ukraine who are struggling in war are given aid and money by numerous countries.

However, other might think that their country should save their money for their priorities, but I disagree with this because I think everyone should help each other out and be allies. Helping and guiding everyone is the right choice for civil peace and sharing money equally among every country.

  • I personally think rich countries should give aid to help other countries. There are different types of aid.Aid for food, health, water, and natural destructive forces.Sometimes other richer countries refuse to give aid because the government thinks it is not their problem. The country's that are not financially in the best place should get aid from other countries unless they are taking advantage.Ways the countries could take advantage is by using the aid for other causes and not for the intended one.Aid can also be used to help claim trust. The poorer countries can share what their most known for,for the rich countries aid.In closing that is why I think rich countries should give aid to poor countries.

  • Countries give aid to help other people from there fellow countries such as providing them food, clean water and heath supplies to even drones and protection for war.I think they do this to be kind and to help other countries while their in war or needing help but to also create alliances and support when they are going through something.Even though giving aid is great some people want the money to go to their own countries needs it can also be risky because if your helping a country while they are in war the opponent might get angry at you .

  • What is aid? When I say the word “aid” most of the people will think about wars. Countries aid for another country usually for many reasons like strengthening allies and reducing conflict. This helps create a more stable world, which protects the donor country's interests, relationships, and benefits for their country. For example, according to my research the United States is the country that aids the most around the world and contributes over $60 billion for other countries such as Ukraine. However, I also found out that the U.S. is trying to get some of the valuable natural resources which are in Ukraine. But someone might think differently with me because they might say I’m focusing too much on aiding, which means the enemy can attack us, and our citizens could be in a dangerous situation.

  • There are many different types of aid, but the three most popular aids are medical aid, military aid, and financial aid.

    Military Aid
military aid is mostly used when a war is happening. Some countries send military aid to help their allies during a war, or they get fully involved in the war to help their allies defeat the enemy. A example is World War 1 known as (The Great War). America🇺🇲 was sending aid to the UK🇬🇧 and France🇫🇷 from 1914 to 1917 before we joined the war due to Germany🇩🇪 asking Mexico🇲🇽 to help get rid of the US if we joined the war.

    Medical Aid
medical aid was mostly used during a virus or a pandemic is happening.a example is covid-19. During the pandemic many countries sent medical aid to where the virus first started and the countries around it so it can't spread to their country, but as most of us know it didn't work.

    Financial aid
financial aid works for every thing if you give your allies money they can use it on military and medication. unlike medical and military aid you can use financial to buy anything.

  • I think country’s mainly give aid to other country’s who need it the most for example if there was a war and a place was struggling to find resources then you could send them some from your own country. However I do think some other people’s actions are based on trying to make up for their previous actions and to show that they make good actions

  • In Egypt now they start to make breakfast campaigns for fasting people in Ramadan starting from now before Ramadan to collect much boxes that can make them felt that they are not hungry and they make this because this people don't have money to buy a house and a food so we had to aid each other to all felt happy and you will take good deeds as a reward from god and although what happened in Gaza while there was a war Egypt aid them by sending them What they need from food, water and clothes so we had to aid each other.
    thank you 🌹

  • I think that countries give aid for various different reasons, many of them, more than just humanitarian aid such as helping people in need and providing food and water. While we hope aid comes from goodwill, political, economic and strategic motives often play a role as well.
For example, countries may provide aid to gain influence or secure important resources such as oils and minerals, as seen in China's investments in Africa. Africa is a continent rich with vital natural resources like timber, cobalt (used in electric vehicle batteries) and rare earth metals, which are very important for Chinas growing economy. In exchange, China provides infrastructure strengthening its influence on Africa.
On top of this, some countries give aid to support or improve their global reputation and boost their image as compassionate, generous and caring countries in front of other influential countries. An important example of this is when the U.S pledged billions to Haiti after a devastating earthquake to help in aid however most of the funds went to American contractors and organisations. Many were praising America but in reality nothing significant had been done only to the image of the U.S.
Although, countries still provide aid to stabilise conflicts, working together to prevent wars, such as the European Union's support for countries effected by disasters, conflicts who provide aid through humanitarian assistance, financial assistance and technical support.
In conclusion, I think aid is given with good or bad intentions, especially if it aims to help others or not.
    Thank you!

  • Aid is extremely efficient for a lot of countries. All of the countries must be like friends or neighbors. If there was a disaster that was affecting a country negatively, it would affect the whole world. For example in Japan, 2011, there was a huge earthquake that was called Tsunami. Actually, it did not only affect Japan, but it also affected the surrounding countries like Hawaii and South Korea. Consequently, without aid, the world will be filled with a lot of calamities. If countries did not support each other, we would lose everything. Another example was in 2019 in corona virus. Although the virus appeared in China, all of the people in the world were infected. Countries helped and supported each other by providing the corona vaccines and money. If there were no aids from countries during corona, it would be spreading until now. Also, in Gaza. My country, Egypt, supported it by giving aids through the Rafah crossing. This was made by the Egyptian red Crescent. However, Israel closed the Rafah cross, but we did not give up, and the government used planes to drop food in boxes on Gaza lands even the Egyptian citizens did not give up. We donated to them. Did you know that Egyptians were putting food in bottles like rice and threw it in the Mediterranean Sea hoping that it will go to Gaza? Actually, people in Gaza posted thanks on social media to the Egyptians because of the bottles (filled with food).

To conclude, all of us are the same. Humans must have their rights. I have read a quote in a book that said, "We are of the same blood, you and I in all languages."

  • In my opinion, countries provide international aid in order to benefit themselves, although helping another person is a part of it. It can actually improve a nation’s image, foster relations, and enhance its influence. For instance, countries tend to provide more aid to nations that are of strategic importance to them; this implies that countries are also interested in benefiting themselves.

However, others may think that international aid is mostly about assisting people in need, especially in situations that involve emergencies like natural calamities, wars, or food shortages where the only aim is to save lives without expecting any returns.

  • I think countries give aid mainly to help themselves. A lot of aid comes with conditions, meaning people will only receive aid if their government does what the government giving the aid wants them to do. And even if it seems like there's no strings attached, a lot of the time, the country receiving aid will still act in the interests of the country giving aid, for fear that if they don't, the aid will stop. Also giving aid improves relationships with other countries so they can trade with each other. And if some countries "owe" other countries then they would be more likely to help them in the future. Aid can be invaluable and save lives, but governments' motives for giving it are often self serving

  • I think countries give aid mainly because they want to help people in need of shelter clean water and food also people who are stuck in crisis or war. One example is that the United states of America gave Ukraine billions of dollars when they were bombed they do this because over time probably they will get something back from them as a thank you. However others might think you should help willingly with care not expecting something from them also others might think you should save aid for your own country as if it is in need you can do it yourself without others help. Overall it is good to give aid towards a country as sharing is caring and the thing that's should be given more is clean water which will stop the spread of diseases which will enable the region seeking help have hope. On the other hand if the other region doesn't recover they might gang on you causing conflict and war making a bigger problem

  • I think countries mainly give aid to create stability in the world, because problems in one region can eventually affect everyone. While helping others is important, many governments also understand that issues like poverty, conflict, and disease do not stay within national borders.

One clear example is how countries respond to health crises. During global outbreaks such as COVID-19, richer countries shared vaccines, medical equipment, and financial support with poorer countries. This was done for humanitarian reasons, but it was also practical. If the virus continued spreading elsewhere, new variants could develop and threaten everyone. In this way, aid was both compassionate and protective. Similarly, countries sometimes give aid to fragile states to reduce the risk of conflict, terrorism, or large-scale migration, which could later affect their own security.

However, others argue that countries often give aid for political or economic reasons. Some aid is linked to trade deals, military cooperation, or access to natural resources. Critics believe this shows that aid is often used as a strategic tool rather than being purely about generosity.

Overall, I believe there is rarely just one reason for giving aid. It is usually a mix of moral responsibility, global interdependence, and self-interest. In today’s interconnected world, helping other countries is not only an act of kindness but also a way to promote global stability.

  • I think counries give aid mainly because they strenghten their alliance with the country in war. For example china would help russia against USA. Another reason to give aid is for the overall better. We saw this during WW2 when Germany tried to take over the world with bad intentions so powerhouses like usa ussr (Russia) uk and france took them down.

  • I think that primarily, nations engage in international aid as a way to address common international risk situations. This is because no one can ignore the fact that in today's interconnected world, disturbances in one country have the capacity to affect far-reaching consequences on many other countries around the globe. Though it is crucial to have humanitarian reasons for international aid, countries need to help vulnerable regions to prevent major problems in the future.

We can take one recent example from the economic and humanitarian crisis Sri Lanka faced. India sent financial support, fuel, food, and necessary medicines. These operations were critical for Sri Lanka to stabilize an unstable period, and at the same time, they contributed to stability in the region.

Likewise, international cooperation has its reverse side too. India also benefits from international cooperation, and one such example is the Indian-French defence cooperation through the Rafale fighter aircraft deal. Even though this is not an example of humanitarian aid in the real sense, it gives an idea of how countries help each other for mutual benefit and security.

Some critics argue that countries often provide aid mainly to expand influence or secure economic advantages. Nevertheless, if strategic advantages remain, good management can always improve living conditions while building up on the infrastructure and decreasing the chances of conflict.

Overall, international aid reflects both a moral responsibility and strategic cooperation for a better future, in my opinion.

  • They give it because it is there for people who need it and get all the help they need .

  • Why I personally think countries offer aid internationally is to relieve conflict or tension between the countries and to help build up alliances. Aid can also grow and steady nations to get back on their feet after a catastrophe or a natural disaster. Aid can also offer military assistance. An example of this is, according to www.nato.int, "Since 2022, NATO Allies have been providing Ukraine with unprecedented levels of military assistance, delivering billions of euros worth of equipment, supplies, training and other critical support." This helps Ukraine fight against Russia much better with the better equipment, training, supplies, etc.. It also gives NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) an Ally and helps countries become more powerful.

  • I think countries give aid because it gives them a good reputation, or for the general good of the other country.
They might also want to make alliances or truces.

  • countries give aid because of things like wars they send supplies like medicine and food
i think giving aid is a good thing but we just cant let countries only rely on aid.
    bye

  • I think countries give aid to other countries because if a natural catastrophe like a tsunami or earthquake happens, affected people often lose their homes, families and basic things to live normally. Aid helps partly to fulfil basic human needs easily like food and shelter and also helps the country recover and build up again as the affected country can't help itself.

  • I think countries give aid mainly because aid could be a really important thing for people to stay healthy and avoid dying due to an injury or a sickness, also the country that gives aid could gain the trust from which country they said is given to.One example for my view is if America gives aid to Israel,Israel would trust America more than they would trust other countries, and Israel's people would gain better health from the aid provided. However, others might think that countries give aid to foster economic stability and advance their security for the country.

  • I think countries give aid mainly because they are trying to help people. I think this is because the stuff that aid is providing can help a lot of people. However, others might think diffitly .

  • I think countries give aid mainly because of the people living in that country. One example or reason for my view is if there is no aid for people, people will suffer in that country. However, others might think that giving aid is mainly because of the government. Others may think that the government needs aid because the government needs help and the government's the one that says what and what not to do, so they need the aid.

  • I think countries should give aid for helping people, because we are all humans. Humanitarian aid is not only the right thing to do, it is also about morality. I do not think it right that we can be in a rich country and watch people on tv suffering or even starving. We may need people in other countries to help us one day. For example, in Romania we have to prepare for earthquakes and one day may need help from other countries.

  • I think countries give aid mainly because it strengthens their power and reputation. When a country sends money or support it doesn't just look kind- it builds friendships, open doors for trade, and it helps them gain influence in global decisions. For example, I've seen countries rush to help after disasters, and later those same countries end up forming closer political or economic partnerships.

However, other might argue that aid is most about compassion. They might that say that government feel a moral responsibility to help people who are suffering especially during wars, earthquakes or famines. Some people also believe that aid is a way for countries to make up for past actions like colonialism or conflict.

But in my view, even when aid looks purely humanitarian there's usually a strategic reason behind it. Countries rarely spend billions without expecting something in return - even if that something is global respect.

  • I think countries give international aid because they want to help others, for example what America is doing for Ukraine at the moment. Sometimes countries want to benefit themselves because if they help other countries maybe when they will be in danger the other countries will help them too. Some countries in Europe, like Britain and France, also like to help former colonies because of historical links and organisations like the Commonwealth.

  • I think countries give international aid due to the fact that we all live on the same planet. For example, if a new disease breaks out, we all need to help the infected country to heal, not just physically but mentally too as subjects like this are fragile, taking a toll on not just the ill but everyone they know and it can prevent it spreading across countries; aid for that many countries is something that cannot always be afforded. Aid sent for the cause of education empowers young people to shape themselves into confident and happy individuals, ensuring a peaceful world for future generations. Aid sent for clean water and food can help prevent hunger and sicknesses, as lots of illnesses today are caused by malnutrition and can even prevent future aid, meaning we have countries that are all well-off and stable; countries can save money to address national problems as well. It can also form friendships and diplomatic relationships between countries, so future generations can have a less-violence filled life unlike older generations and are able to live stereotype-free too! Giving aid that helps provide homes for people can ensure young children are brought up in safe and happy environment, as no child should have poverty and child labour as some of their earliest memories, which are often the ones that shape their entire life and what kind of person they grow up to be.

We ALL live on this Earth, and just become some of us are different skin colours, religions, or need more help than others doesn't mean we deserve any less or any more.

    Thank you for listening.

  • I think countries give aid mainly because that country is trying to help other countries. For example, there might be a virus going around and that country wants to send some experts in from their country to help with the virus. One example for my view is that aid provides other kids and/or adults some essentials they might need like food, water, blankets, and other essentials they would need to survive. However, others might think the opposite of me because they probably believe that their country shouldn't donate aid and just keep it for their own country. They don't know that other countries need aid more than they do because of things like war, floods, and viruses.

  • I think countries give aid mainly because they want to benefit for themselves but also for building a safer environment for their people. They may want to advance their own national interests such as economic gain and security creating a more stable and safe environment for their own people. However, others might think that other countries might not be helping them for their own personal gain but for sympathy or for help.

  • I think countries give aid because they want to help people that need serious help or just need help in general. One of my reasons is that they want to help that country out because in the future they might need help, too. There's a lot of people that need help. Those people might need medical help, food/water, and other things. Also, we know that some countries right now are sending things to other countries. They are sending things like food, water, shelter, doctors, and other important things. People need help right now because of hurricanes, tornadoes, blizzards, earthquakes, and other major events. If people don't help out, that same thing might happen to them and then nobody is going to be able to help anybody out. This is how everyone gets along and things are peaceful. So in conclusion I say that we should all help each other because one day we are all going to be in danger and we are all going to need help . So I think countries all use aid.

  • I believe countries give aid because it helps build relationships and allies, helps give people the resources they can't afford, and it benefits both countries in a way. But what’s the main reason countries give aid?

In my opinion, the main reason countries give aid is because it benefits both nations. One way it may benefit the country giving aid is by receiving good karma or getting something in return. Of course, the way it benefits the other country is having more resources to live and benefit from. One example is if Sudan needs aid, and Ukraine volunteers to donate, it could be because they want good karma to boost their low global credit. It could also be because it's a nice and generous thing to do. Everything has a reason, though a lot of people might believe that it is just because it helps give people the resources they need,

This is why I believe that the main reason aid is given is because it benefits both countries.

  • I think think countries give aid mainly because of humanitarian reasons like for helping people in need by providing food, clean water, emergency medical help and disaster reliefs like tents and blankets. This can help and save many people during wars or natural disasters. One example for my view is the 2010 Haiti earthquake where many countries like the United States, UK and Germany sent emergency aid like shelters, food and medical help to Haiti after the earthquake.

Another reason for sending foreign aid to other countries are political and strategic reasons. By giving aid, countries can strengthen their relations with other countries, which creates allies who will support them in international decisions like in the UN and in crisis situations like in a war. The military aid from US to the Ukraine after the Russian invasion is an example for aid given for political and strategic reasons, as it creates political influence and strengthens it’s allies with Ukraine and the European Union.

However, others might think that countries give aids only because of humanitarian reasons and not because of political and strategic reasons.

In conclusion I think countries not only give foreign aid because of humanitarian reasons, as everyone should help someone who is in need, but also because of political and strategic reasons, as every country thinks about whats best for them and how it can benefit them in future.

    Thanks for reading!

  • I think countries give aid mainly because it benefits both others and themselves. One reason for my view is that aid can improve a country's global influence and build strong political alliances. For example, providing disaster relief or development funding can strengthen diplomatic relationships and create future trade or security partnerships.

This links to related topics like international relations and soft power, where countries use aid to improve their global image and influence decisions in world organizations. Aid can also help stabilize poorer regions, which reduces risks like conflict or migration that might affect donor countries.

However, others might think aid is mainly humanitarian; given simply to help people in crisis. While this is sometimes true, I believe most aid is motivated by a mix of compassion and national interest rather than just one reason.

    1. Hello inspirational_tsunami, I loved reading your comment and thought it stated very good facts. Although when I was reading, it seemed to seem a bit like AI, and after I checked it ( Zero GPT, Quill bot, GPT Zero ), it confirmed my thoughts. Of course, I don't know this for certain since I didn't see you write it. My comment here has no intention of degrading your comment and the amazing work you have put into this comment. I just believe that having such an amazing opportunity to be in this contest should not be compromised by AI use. So just a friendly reminder that AI use is not allowed and it compromises this competition. Thank you

  • I think there isn’t just one main reason why countries give international aid. In reality, it usually has many goals at the same time.

The foremost reason is simply to help others. When countries face poverty, war, natural disasters, disease, or conflict, aid can save lives and improve people’s quality of life. Many governments and organisations genuinely want to reduce suffering and support those in need.
Aid is also given to benefit the donor country. Helping others can strengthen political ties, improve a country’s image, and create trade and economic opportunities. Stable, developing countries are better partners and less likely to cause global problems like conflicts or refugee crises.

Some aid is given to make up for past actions. For example, Germany has helped countries affected by World War II, and Belgium and the UK have supported health and education in nations affected by colonialism.

Aid also promotes peace and stability by supporting education, healthcare, and infrastructure. It helps fight global problems like climate change, pandemics, and natural disasters.

Aid can help countries share knowledge, skills, and technology. This makes development easier, encourages creativity, and builds strong partnerships.

There are many reasons for aid, but the main one is simple: to help people in need. Even if other motives exist, aid can still have a big, positive impact.

  • Contrary’s give Aid for a few reasons,
they give Aid because they want to help people in need. They also give Aid because they think that if you Aid them then they might give Aid to others and then carry on helping others over and over again.

  • Why do countries give aid? From my point of view, I believe that countries give aid for two reasons, reputation and alliance. I personally believe that most country leaders don’t give help without expecting something in return.

During the lesson, my partner and I mostly chose options A or B. We chose these options of aid because we wanted to keep our reputation high and make sure people thought good of us. We didn’t dare pick option C to ruin our reputation. This made our country have much more success, even though we were low on credits.

The second reason I believe countries give aid is for alliance. You’ve definitely heard of the saying “treat others how you want to be treated.” Well, when one country gives another country in poverty resources, that country might help in future wars when it is more stable.

Overall, the lesson made me learn a lot about how countries make decisions. Yes, not all will make the decision I made, but I believe that the reason for giving aid is reputation and union. With all that said, why do you think countries give aid?

  • I think countries give aid because maybe they want to help other countries. And aid can help with many
problems such as: war and floods. Maybe the country also wants to be friends with the other country or they were in a war and now their friends and they want to help each other

  • I think countries gives aid so people say safe if they get hurt and aid is needed in every day life. People can get hurt sometimes so that’s why we need aid to stay safe!

  • They might give aid as they would like to support other counterinsurgency. They may also give aid because they want something in return. If you support other it also gives you a good reputation.

  • countries give aid because of maybe a disaster has struck like war and innocent citizens have got hurt or badly injured another disaster is a bombing that can kill lots of people

  • Countries offer aid for some different reasons .
First all they want to do is help other countries in need help in some countries who actually need it .Aid can provide poor countries with essentials such as good food to help them keep healthy ,clean water so that they can not get serious illnesses and healthcare to support after natural disasters .
By doing this it can save many lives and reduces poverty .
Aid can help countries all around the world .

  • We can help other poor countries by building new city’s for them and school to help th support themselves afterwards.

  • Country give aid because if they are in war, they need all the help they need. It is harder without help than with help. Also they might be in a crisis that why we help each other. Aid can provide clean water and food

  • I think countries give aid mainly to help strengthen a country and help people in need. One example for my view is if a country is struggling with a famine, natural disasters or an uncontrolled disease, like Russia struggling with a famine, the United States gave a massive amount of food aid. However, others might think aid wouldn't help much because if a country gives aid, that country that received the aid might never pay back if that country starts to suffer.

  • Countries need to give aid as countries might really need it as they could be in wars or in conflict with other countries. This doesn’t always help the country in question with their aid programs, they do this to increase safety for other countries while their economy increases too.

Countries have free will with what country they want to help out but I think that it doesn’t matter what country it is, allies or not, we should help everyone out whenever they need it. More countries need aid than other ones as other countries can supplying themselves with their wealth, where other countries are in financial struggle and can’t supply themselves with the aid they need.

  • I think countries mainly give aid because they think it will come back. My view on this situation is because in the game we did the team who did that did very well. However, others might think it is for having a relationship with other countries.

  • Countries give first aid to people in need if they are hurt or are feeling ill. They also give out aid because if people have diseases they can heal them so they get better.

  • I think countries give aid mainly because the are helping the world to be better with more people feeling like they are loved and they feel like everyone is there neighbour.

  • They give aid because some Countries are suffering and it's really important to help them in anything they need and some it's also important to provide food, healthcare, and safer things and it benefits the earth and some other people doesn't have anything other people have and some are poor and some are normal and some are a rich and it's not fair on some other people.

  • i believe countries give aid mostly because they want to help other countries in order to help protect it and their People . They. Want to help other countries as everyone is equal and should not be getting treated differently . If they give aid ,it provides the country that they are giving aid to with shelter, clean water, food and or protection . it helps the other countries be more strong ,cared for and provided .

  • it helps provide countries with the things they need in order to become a strong ,known ,provided country. This will help them with shelter clean water food and or protection from sickness and much more.

  • I think countries give aid mainly because they want to help others so they can get greater rewards back. One example for my point of view is countries might do this for donors from many other countries and so other countries can sort of invest in their ideas to help their own country. Another reason as to why I think this is on Google , I once found out that in 2006 , the amount of aid that was given to the United States increased by 59% because they were temporaily a member of the UN security Council. This shows that by helping others they will get more back. However, others might disagree with me because they might think that they are giving aid to countries because that country wants to wholeheartedly give them aid because they are struggling. I can see why another person might think this, but nowadays , some countries are a bit greedy and receive and take more than what they actually need.

  • i think countries give aid mainly because so they can support a team and give them aid at the same time.one example is the war in Pakistan or Ukraine and not just that they also include natural disasters like floods in Japan or even earthquakes in turkey and tornado's.

  • I think countries give aid mainly because they believe they feel a certain moral obligation as a more privileged and wealthier country to help the less privileged countries. Aid is used as a form of 'reparations' for past mistakes a country made . Countries also often use aid to reinforce principles they believe in , for example Sweden believes in feminist policy so a large amount of their aid focuses on gender equality and human rights.

On the other hand, I believe aid is too often used as a way for wealthier countries to assert power over underdeveloped countries or secure alliances with powerful countries like themselves , like a silent Geopolitical war, these countries almost having the same possessive nature colonialism in Africa gave them . Global powers use aid as a way to 'softly' urge their ideologies like Democracy or Capitalism onto other countries as aid to an extent has to reflect the values of people in the country giving the aid as people don't want to be funding something they don't agree with.

All this being said I believe most countries give aid because they truly want to help and make the world a better place but I also believe that aid should not come with expectations and that although most countries don't intend it aid is often used as way to force beliefs or gain power.

  • I think countries give aid because it strategically benefits themselves. This may seem a bit hopeless but it is the truth. On the surface; aid is planted as being due to concerns but the allocation and timing of aid usually truly show that aid's purpose and intention.
One example of aid with an intention behind it is the US' PEPFAR program (The President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief). If you do not take a closer look, then this seems completely noble in concept and practice. But this aid is used for reasons such as stopping disease which could affect global and trade, stabilize critical regions, and most importantly, build enough goodwill and influence with the people. If you help a country, they then become political and economic allies. This is not unique to the US. China's Belt and Road Initiative provides loans and infrastructure to nations with less developed systems but it has a clear goal; that being securing trade routes and access to natural resources which bolsters China's own economy.
However, others might think that aid is driven by genuine moral obligation. For example, many former colonial powers give consistent aid to former colonies in Africa and the Caribbean. People who believe this way may say that this represent accountability and helping those in need. I would argue that if that were the case then aid would flow to the neediest places regardless of politics and would never be cut off. Instead, I believe aid is a tool used to buy stability and allegiance in other countries. I believe it's less a gift and more an investment.

  • The biggest reason countries give aid is a combination of humanity and global stability. On a moral level, many people believe that if a nation has the resources to prevent hunger or treat a disease, it has a responsibility to help its fellow humans. However, giving aid is also a practical choice because a more stable world benefits everyone. When we help other countries become healthier and more educated, it reduces the chances of future conflicts and helps the global economy grow, which is a win for both the giver and the receiver.
Beyond just being kind, international aid is often used to build long-term partnerships and expertise. By sharing money, supplies, or knowledge, countries can help their neighbors build better schools, hospitals, and power grids. This creates a "soft power" connection where nations become friends and trade partners rather than rivals. Ultimately, the most important reason for aid is to create a world where every country eventually becomes strong enough to support itself and help others in return.

  • In my opinion I think countries mainly give aid to gain allies and support because having more allies makes them stronger politically, economically, militarily and increases their global credits.

  • In my opinion, I think countries give aid because they want to help them especially countries that are under-developed or is developing.

Another reason for wanting to provide aid is maybe because they want to form an alliance together. An example for this situation was when the US sent military aid to countries in the middle east (Israel, Jordan, Egypt...). But the other countries has to give USA something in return so they decided to allow USA to import their products to their country. This alliance forms stability for both countries, always making sure that they have each other's back. But sometimes, aid can also be provided from major countries because they do actually want to help. An example for this would be the US or Germany. Every year, they donate millions of dollars to help fund free education for kids in Africa. Sometimes, they even help donate aid for natural disasters such as providing temporary shelters, clean water, healthcare and sometimes even technology.

In conclusion, aids are provided to form alliances or in order to help a country in need of help or resources. This benefits for both the country in need and the country donating. Aid can improve relationships between different regions or countries and provides support.

  • In my opinion, the biggest reason countries give international aid is to help others and contribute to a more peaceful world. When nations suffer from poverty, or if they have extreme global issues, aid can save lives and improve living conditions. Providing food, healthcare, education, and emergency relief shows compassion and global responsibility. By helping struggling countries become more stable and secure, donor nations also help reduce conflict, suffering, and instability. A more stable world is generally a more peaceful one.

But it would be unrealistic to say that helping others is the only reason. International aid can also benefit the countries that provide it. By supporting other nations, countries can build stronger diplomatic relationships, increase their global influence, and create future trade opportunities. Aid can strengthen alliances and improve a country’s international reputation.

So overall, while international aid can bring advantages to the donor country, I believe its main purpose is humanitarian — to reduce suffering and promote global peace. At the same time, it naturally creates mutual benefits, making it both compassionate and practical.

  • Countries are united and they help one another . Plus other countries do not like countries that suffer poverties . My opinion is they help one another even if they are poor .

    1. You say "other countries do not like countries that suffer poverties" - can you explain what you mean by this?

  • Countries give aid to other countries for support and help if some countries are in natural disasters, wars , struggling with money or even drought. If any countries are in need of help another countries should always help. People might not think its fair but we are all in life together and we need to help the best we can!

  • I think Countries give aid because they want to be kind and give supply so the other countrie will give some stuff back to them but if they don't then the people who gave the supply will get upset

  • In my opinion I think aid is very important for everyone . It is helpful for everyone . I will explain.

If people do not know there is a lot of aids . For example emergency aid is when someone thing bad happens but quick. Developmental aid is when you help over time . My favourite is emergency aid because it happens very quick . Thank you for listening for my idea .

  • Why Do Countries Give Aid?
Many people say that aid is given to help people during emergencies all over the world and to support those in need. I completely agree with this opinion. However, I believe aid deserves more recognition for how important it truly is.
Imagine you are in a mall and, for some reason, your finger suddenly starts bleeding. This is a very simple example of why people need help. Now imagine that an elderly man suddenly experiences paralysis in a public place like a mall. In this situation, he needs immediate assistance because he cannot move. Where will he find a wheelchair if he is unable to move at all? At that moment, aid becomes the only solution that could save his life.
After considering these examples, do you think aid is necessary? I certainly do.

  • Countries may give AID for different reasons some may include :
. to gain respect from others
. to give less fortunate places things they need if they are in war
. they might do it to get money to benefit their own country after others have repaid them

  • In my opinion, countries give aid because some countries have aid that they do not need.

Also, according to the lesson, some countries get things in return for giving aid. Many countries lack aid due to floods or even a virus. Many countries need aid, and some countries don’t even give aid. Some small countries don’t have much money to help other countries that don’t have a lot of aid.

Some big countries that have a lot of aid most of the time give aid to countries that are struggling with aid. Countries that struggle most of the time have a dependency on other countries. Some countries complain that others are only giving aid away so they can get something in return. Some countries go to war and depend on other countries to give them equipment. In my opinion, some countries might not want to give aid because they may think if you help them one time, then they will keep depending on them to give them aid and equipment.

In my opinion, this is why countries give aid.

  • I think countries give aid mainly because they want to help each other . One example or reason for my view is that the two countries are allies However, others might think that just because they’re allies doesn't mean that they have to give aid, but when other countries give aid, it’s not a have to, it's a want to. So, in my opinion, countries give aid just to help out other countries.

  • I think countries give aid because they want to have respect for other countries. People can just say we need help, and they will send aid, and they will use all the money for non-important things instead of being used correctly to buy food. In the lesson, we learned that this is corruption. If the country is in war or disaster, the government can just send aid to the place that needs it the most.

Countries have been sending aid since they first existed, and they send it in many different forms, like finance, food, and war supplies. A lot of countries want to have respect and not look like a country that doesn’t look careless. Countries want to be respected to look good and have people join their country.

In my opinion, these are reasons why countries give aid.

  • in my opinion, countries give aid because they want to help countries in need. So, if they help, then more people will start to like them, and the country will get more popular than some other countries that don't want to help countries in need.

Countries that don't want to help those in need will probably be hated and less popular, so people don't want to go to that country. Also, if they don't help other countries if something bad happens, then people will not want to send them aid either because they didn't want to help other countries. That's why I think countries give aid.

  • I think countries give aid for these reasons. First, they give aid to people who need help. These aids can provide supplies like fresh water, food, and medicine.

Second of all, aid can save people from all around the world. If we didn’t have aid, people who were injured would not have survived. With countries providing aid for us, it gives a higher chance for people to survive.

Finally, countries give aid to help their relationships with other countries. This can make some countries allies with one another.

So, in my opinion, I think countries give aid for these reasons.

  • Why do countries give aid?
Countries give aid because they want to help smaller countries with money or food. For example, if a flood happened, countries would have problems without food and water.

After a few months, countries might stop giving aid because the smaller country might be fine with its food and water.

  • I think countries give aid because if a country needs help, they might give them aid, deciding if they are gonna receive success or not. If a country is in need of aid or clothes/food, there is a chance of receiving it, or a chance that the country will have to do something to receive it. Just imagine your country was in a war with another country, and a wealthy country is next to your country, you would ask them if they could get aid to help your country.

Potential items like aid, clothes, food, and more can help your or another country by giving or getting these items/objects.

  • I think that countries give aid because of three reasons.

    1. They see it as moral responsibility to help their fellow humans that are in need.
    2. When a disease or terrorist groups breaks out in a country, it is in the best interest of other countries to help them (the country in need), so it won't begin to spread and affect them in their own countries.
    3. They can use the aid they give to form an alliance with other countries so that in the event of war, they have allies that can back them up. A good example of this is during the Cold War when the US and the Soviet Union (USSR) gave aid to capitalist and communist countries respectively, as a strategic way to pull other countries into their sphere of influence.

  • On one hand, I think countries give aid mainly because they want to help people in need, especially if they have enough resources themselves. Aid from other countries can be very important when there are serious problems such as hunger, Natural disasters or floods. In These situations, international support can save lives and improve living conditions. On the other hand I believe, that the countries, which send aid often also want to benefit from their action. For example, they might expect their support too, when they are in need. In addition, they may also want to improve their image and become more popular or gain more support from other countries. In my opinion, countries give aid both to help other and to help themselves.

  • I think countries give aid mainly because if they help now, when they have a necessity it is more probable that other countries help them. This isn't from a selfish point of view, because they also want to help others but having in mind they one day might be in the same situation. Of course there are lots of other reasons but I believe this is the strongest one and that in the end we are humans, and I choose to believe that we tend to help others as a global community.
However, it's true that many countries donate aid to make up for past actions and I think this is also a really correct and understandable reason to do so.

  • I think the country will give aid to develop humanity and to help the people who are in need . When a disaster strikes in an country, the country will become poor , when we help them there blessings made us feel special. When we need help they will help .
It helps us to develop humanity and hospitality.
However we are all human beings, in one planet , so we should help them .
And we have to treat them as our relatives.
When we think them as our relatives we will help right? So all are same caste and religion so we should help them .
And the people who help others who are in need , the affected people will consider us as a god that will be the great blessing

  • I think that all the reasons listed above are approved as real causes and here is why:

(These causes are based on real international aid made by the government not the economy ones)

Some rich countries that have reached a state of independence do it solely for making a better economy as they have nothing to waste.
Others do it for for gaining advantage like a trade of expertise or something of this kind. These countries don't really mean goodness, but wants to improve them self by helping others.

Other countries do it as a payback to a country that gave them at kind of aid for them to develop and have a some kind of a political/governmental connections such as recommending flights there or uniting together as one nation, as well as an exchange of products.

I have listed all reasons as I couldn't just choose one because they all are basically true.

  • International aid is actually important the citizen of a country gets to gain the necessities they lacked from such offer, especially when it goes to the less privileged and the minorities as well.
Take Ghana a West African country as an instance, it was basically through the help of an international aid that a bit deserted area was developed to a better country today.
So mostly countries give an international aid to offer helps to the needs, to actually develop their country and also to prevent the loss of life and valuable things.

  • I think countries give aid mainly because they want to help others.
One example for my view is when there is a flood, earthquake, or other disasters, richer countries often send money, food, medicine, and doctors to support people in need.
Aid can also help improve schools, hospitals, and clean water in poorer countries, which makes life better for many people and shows that countries care about other coumtries human life.
However, others might think that countries give aid mainly to benefit themselves.
For example, some countries give aid to build stronger trade relationships between two countries or to gain political support. Even though this can happen, I believe helping people in need is the main reason why countries give

  • International aid is given for different reasons, and the biggest reason I think often depends on a country’s own objectives.
One major reason is simply to help others through organisations like UNICEF. Many countries genuinely aim to create a safer and more peaceful world.
However, aid can also benefit the donor country by strengthening alliances, improving trade relationships, or increasing global influence, as seen in programs run by USAID.
Overall, international aid greatly depends on each country’s goals — whether humanitarian, strategic, or both.

  • I think countries give aid mainly because at the deepest level they want to win people’s hearts and spread humanity across borders. I agree that, there can be political benefits and economic interests, but the strongest potential behind aid is the simple human truth that when one home is on fire the whole street feels the heat. One example for my view is how countries rush with food medical teams and rescue experts when earthquakes floods or cyclones destroy lives in another nation. They may not share the same language or culture but they share the same tears. Helping is not just about money but it's about saying your pain matters to us. In our daily life when a neighbour is struggling we do not calculate profit before offering help we simply extend our hand because humanity connects us. In the same way, nations also unlock their highest potential not by showing power but by showing compassion. Some people might argue that countries give aid mainly to benefit themselves or to repair their image after past actions. That may sometimes be true. But even then the act of giving still saves lives and builds bridges.

From the core of my heart I believe real strength is not in weapons or wealth but in winning hearts. Aid is not just a transaction between governments, it is a silent promise that no human being should suffer alone. So, it's about sharing humanity and wiping tears!!!

  • I think countries give international aid for many different reasons while some people believe it is just about begin kind I think it is also away to make the whole world more stable by provding expertise and supplies to help people in other countries we can help them solve the big problems before they affect everyone else in my opinion aid is the way for countries to build friendship and the work together when we help others with thinks like medicine or food we are making the world safer place for every person no matter where they live.

  • Why do countries give aid? I think the reasons are a mix of humanity and strategy. On one hand, many countries provide aid to help people suffering from poverty, disasters, or conflict. It can save lives and support development. On the other hand, aid can also strengthen political relationships, improve a country’s global image, and create economic partnerships. So it’s not always purely selfless. In my opinion, even if countries benefit in return, what truly matters is whether the aid is effective, transparent, and genuinely improves people’s lives in the long term
    Bye bye

  • I think countries give aid mainly because they want to help other countries when those nations find them selves in times of trouble. One example for my view is how charitable and sensitive the vast majority of the inhabitans are and how quickly they respond to the misfortunes of others.
Moreover, when a country hemos other in times of disaster It means that in the future, if something happens to that country, the other nation would help it back, and this beneffit both of them.

  • I think countries give aid mainly to help others, especially during emergencies like wars, floods, or famines. One reason for my view is that when disasters happen, we often see countries quickly sending food, medicine, and rescue teams to support people in danger. This shows that many governments do want to save lives and reduce suffering.

However, others might think countries give aid to benefit themselves. For example, helping another country can improve relationships, create trade opportunities, or make a country look more responsible and generous. Some people also believe aid is sometimes given to make up for past actions, like colonization.

Overall, I think the biggest reason is to help people in need, but it’s also true that countries can benefit from giving aid too. Sometimes it can be both at the same time.

  • I think countries give aid mainly because they want to help people that are suffering. When there are wars, natural disasters or extreme poverty, other countries can send food, money and medical supplies. For example, during the war in Ukraine, many people gave humanitarian aid to help people who lost their homes. This shows that countries can care about other people outside their own borders.
However, I also think that countries sometimes give aid because it benefits them too. By helping another country they can build friendship, improve trade and increase their influence in the world. Powerful countries like the united state and China often give aid to strengthen relationships with other nations. This can make them more respected and powerful globally.
As someone living in Nigeria, I have seen how international aid can help support communities through health programmes and education project. This makes me believe that aid can make a real difference in people's lives.
Some people might argue that countries mainly give aid to benefit themselves or for political reason. They might say it is more about power than kindness.
In my opinion, the biggest reason countries give aid is to help others, but they also think about how it helps thier own country, so I believe it is a mixture of kindness and self-interest.

  • I think countries give aid mainly because a region is facing conflict for example war. One example for my view is because aid provides food, shelter, healthcare and disease out brakes/viruses.

This enables kids to have education and be successful and have the future they want so giving education as aid will help the needy .

For example, the UK gave £ 250 million in aid to the suffering nation Ukraine also the USA gave military weapons to Ukraine and is trying to convince the Russian president to be peaceful.

On the other hand/However some believe countries give aid so they can get something back from them or build relationships to stop wars together, but most often they just want to help.

In my opinion aid is the most important the needy should not be left out or forgotten nations should put there hands together to help nations in need. It help so others live safe healthy and protected.

I hope you understand my opinions.
    Thanks for reading.
    Have a good day.

  • I think countries give international aid mainly to help others, but also because it helps them too.

For example, donor governments like the United States, United Kingdom and Germany send money, food and doctors when disasters happen. When there was an earthquake in Turkey, many countries helped. That shows kindness. But it also makes them look responsible and builds strong relationships.

However, some people think governments give aid mostly for themselves; like to stop wars spreading, reduce refugees, or make new trade partners.

I think it’s a mix of both. Governments care about people, but they also think about their own country’s safety and future. If aid is only about politics, it might not always reach the people who need it most. So in the future, I think aid should focus more on schools, clean water and jobs, so countries can become independent and not rely on help forever.

  • I think countries give aid mainly because they believe they would benefit from having alliances in different continents in case a war breaks out, linking to WW1 and WW2 when Britain had an alliance with France to help win the war and still does have an alliance over security and defense. However, others might think that countries give aid mainly because they just want to help create world peace, and to do that they need to show other countries that they care about state of the world to come.

  • I think countries give international aid to help others, but also to help themselves. When a country gives money, food, or supplies to another country, it can make that country feel thankful and become a friend. This can help both countries work together in the future. For example, if a country helps after a big storm or earthquake, the people there may trust them more. Some people think countries give aid mostly because they care about others and want to do the right thing. I think it is a mix of both reasons. Countries want to help people who are hurting, but they also want to make good friendships and protect their own interests.

  • I think countries often give aid because they want to benefit themselves, even though helping others is also sometimes a reason. One example or reason for my view is how countries like the USA or China give aid to developing countries where they have interest. China had been investing big amounts of money in African infrastructure like roads or ports, which is also helping China strengthen its economic influence.
However sometimes countries give aid to people in need, for example after a natural disasters such as earthquakes or floods. In these situations the main reason is to be humanitarian rather than political reasons. In conclusion international aid usually has mixed motives. Do you agree?

  • I think countries give aid mainly because they would gain trust with other countries and would receive aid from other countries through their trust . Donald trump has a similar scenario were he aids Ukraine in their wars with a neighbouring country .

  • I think countries give foreign aid, the international transfer of capital for the benefit of the recipient country or its population. Aid can be economic, military, or emergency humanitarian. Example: aid given following a natural disaster

I think giving aid is excellent, but people have to be sure it' s getting to the right person and not taken by The Prime Minister .

    1. @jubilant_fish thank you for your comments. If you were in charge of aid, how would you make sure that it's getting to the right person? What checks would you put in place?

  • Amanda@ The Economist
Thank you for asking me questions. If I was in charge of aid I would tell people that I trust to check permanently if the aid is going to the right person. If it doesn't, then I would probably tell the police.

  • In my opinion, countries give aid because sometimes help is given out of a genuine need for solidarity. For example when a big earthquake or a famine happens many countries send food and medicine through organizations like United Nations

  • The reason nations provide aid is this: In a global world, assisting others is a way to protect themselves.

Of course, there is compassion. When earthquakes struck Turkey and Syria in 2023, nations provided search and rescue teams and medical supplies because people were in danger. This is compassion.

However, nations provide aid for strategic reasons. The COVID-19 pandemic demonstrated how rapidly issues can move from one country to another. Rich nations contributed to programs such as COVAX because they wanted to control the problem in other countries, which would protect them as well.

The relationship between cause and effect is clear: A problem in another country will, in the end, impact everyone.

Aid also helps to build influence and partnerships. China does this by investing in infrastructure around the world, while India does it by building trust in the region through development and digital partnerships. The better the partners, the better the security and economic opportunities.

Some people argue that aid can be selfish, and sometimes it is. But it is not selfish to help each other. If aid leads to stability, trade, and peace for both parties, then it is working.

In today’s world, where everything is interconnected, it is impossible to be isolated. Giving aid is not just an act of charity but an investment in the prevention of global instability. Nations give aid because they know a powerful truth: when one nation goes into turmoil, the shockwaves don’t stop at the border.

  • I think countries offer international aid in order to help each other in times of need, such as natural disasters, economic downturns,or conflicts.By offering financial aid, necessary resources, and expertise, countries show solidarity and compassion. But giving international aid is not just an expression of kindness;it also helps in creating strong international relationships.

When countries offer aid, they help in building trust and respect. This helps in improving international relations and allows countries to work together on various fronts, including trade, security, education, and protecting the environment.Regular aid helps in forming strong international partnerships that help countries in dealing with international issues in a better way.

In addition, international aid ensures stability and development.Assistance in rebuilding from poverty or disaster prevents the possibility of further instability, which is not only beneficial to the receiving country but also to the international community. Finally, international aid fosters unity among nations.Through mutual support, nations ensure a more cooperative, peaceful , and stronger world.

  • I think countries give aid mainly to help themselves. For example if they help other countries, the countries might help them when needed. However others might think that it is to help others. Many other people have different opinions. Why do you think countries give aid?

  • I think that from my point of view, countries give aid to other countries to strengthen alliances. One example for my view is United States with Israel, this happened from 1948 and United States gives military aid and financial aid to Israel, this is to have a very important ally in Middle East and this made a very good relationship between United States and Israel. Another example is the one of the Soviet Union and Cuba, in this example happens more or less the same as in the one before, the Soviet Union give aid to Cuba to have a big ally during the Cold War. Some people think that countries give aid to other because of other reasons but I think that this one is the most logical reason and the one that most countries use.

  • I think countries give aid mainly because we are all humans, and although we have some differences in our cultures, traditions, festivities or gastonomy, we should help each others as we all live in the same planet.
I am not saying that some goverments send aid just for their own benefit, which is also true, because, for example, in case there is a war, countries can send millitary equipment or weapons and gain some profit,. However, I belive that most of us prefer the feeling of helping others and being a good person rather than just having more money or power. If we all help each others, when it is your turn to recieve some aid or help, you will be grateful and become stronger.
Finally, I would also like to share my last opinion. I think that when you send aid, you can be helping yourself without even knowing it, and create a country more economically developed, improving relationships with your neighbour countries and even forming alliances with them.

  • When one country is safe and another is struggling, giving aid can mean more than just helping.

I think countries give international aid not only to help others but also to build connections, solve problems before they grow, and sometimes even improve their own position in the world. For example, when floods or conflicts happen, countries send money, food, and doctors; but they also create partnerships, share knowledge, and support stability in the affected region. That way, everyone benefits a little.

However, aid is not always perfect. If it only gives immediate supplies without teaching skills, building schools, or creating jobs, people might depend on help instead of growing stronger themselves. Some countries, like the United States and the United Kingdom, also give aid to form friendships, encourage trade, or increase influence. That doesn’t make aid bad, but it shows it can have many purposes at the same time.

At first, I thought aid was just about generosity. Now I see it is a mix of care, strategy, and responsibility. The best aid is the kind that protects lives today and builds stronger communities for tomorrow. Giving money, food, or tools is useful, but teaching skills, supporting schools, and creating jobs can make countries stronger for the future.

  • I think countries give aid because it is a good opportunity to gain friends and to, also, benefit themselves with their reputation. One example for my view is the NATO. USA said that the NATO didn't help them with the terrorist attack of the Twin Towers, but then, when they attacked Afghanistan, the NATO helped them. The way the NATO acted is the only good way, because you help a country to defend themselves and you also assert yourself from the accusations. However, other might think in a different way from me.

  • I think countries give international aid mainly because helping others and helping themselves are often the same door.

In India, we say when one house in the street catches fire, the whole neighbourhood forms a line with buckets. Not because they expect a reward, but because tomorrow the flames could reach their own roof. During the COVID-19 crisis, when India sent vaccines and medicines to other nations under Vaccine Maitri, it was not just charity but it was humanity building trust. And when other countries sent oxygen to India in our hardest hour, it proved a powerful truth: the world survives through shared light, not isolated lamps.

International aid is like lighting a lamp in your neighbour’s house so the entire street becomes brighter. Trade becomes stronger, friendships deepen, global peace grows. A hungry child in another country today can become a future scientist, leader or trading partner tomorrow. In that sense, aid is not weakness and it is wisdom. It turns compassion into cooperation.

If we close our doors when others suffer, who will open theirs when we are in need?,So,International aid does more than deliver money or supplies. It also breaks "stereotypes" that label countries as only poor, weak, or dependent. When India sends disaster relief or medical support to other nations, it proves the true humanity.

It aid is not about charity, it is about shared destiny .When one nation lifts another, it protects its own tomorrow.!

Exited to hear to others perspectives!!!

  • I believe countries usually give international aid to help each other in difficult times. When a country faces a problem, other countries should support it. Helping each other makes the world more peaceful and united.

First, we all live in one world. If a disease or problem starts in one country, it can spread to others. So, helping quickly is important. During COVID-19, India helped many countries by sending vaccines. This shows that countries can work together to protect people.

Second, India has helped nearby countries during disasters. For example, when there was an earthquake in Nepal, India sent rescue teams and supplies. This shows that neighbors care for each other in hard times.

Third, aid for education, hospitals, and clean water helps poor countries grow. When children get good education and health care, they can have a better future and improve their country.

However, some people think countries give aid for their own benefit, like gaining power or building strong relationships. That may be true sometimes. But still, the help saves many lives.

In conclusion, I think international aid is important. It shows humanity and kindness. When countries support each other, the whole world becomes safer and happier.

I hope my opinion is clear and easy to understand. I am looking forward to earning some stars for my work ⭐😊

  • International aid is very important because it helps countries support each other, especially in difficult times like natural disasters, wars, or poverty. When countries give aid, they can provide food, medicine, education, and technology that improve people’s lives and give them hope for a better future. In my opinion, the biggest reason countries give aid is both to help others and to benefit themselves. Helping other countries can create peace, stronger relationships, and cooperation between nations. When countries work together, the world becomes safer and more stable. Also, aid can help develop economies, which creates new opportunities for trade and growth for everyone.International aid also shows kindness and responsibility. Wealthier countries have more resources, so supporting countries that are struggling can reduce inequality and allow more people to access basic needs like healthcare and education. This can change communities and even future generations.
However, it is important that aid is used in the right way. Governments and organizations should make sure the help reaches the people who truly need it. Transparency, planning, and long-term projects are necessary so aid creates real progress, not just temporary solutions.Overall, international aid is not just about money — it is about humanity, cooperation, and building a better world. When countries support each other, they show that global challenges can be solved together, and that teamwork is one of the strongest tools we have.
    thank you topical talkers 🌹

  • I think countries give aid mainly because another country or state is in danger . One example is Gaza . Gaza should get a lot of aid because they have been encountered in danger ! They should at least get aid because they have been in war for over 2 years! People may disagree with me because they could have started the war . However what if they didnt ! They could just really be in danger. Thats my explanation.

  • I think countries give aid mainly because they know how it is to not have any help and how it feels when you are in extreme poverty. Although some countries might only help because they hate that paticular country and instead of leaving them alone they decide to make the hole in their heart even bigger ( the food they give them is poisoned ), which we all know that what that country did Is against God and his word.

  • I think countries give aid mainly because people need supplies to help their countries and if you help them they could help you back , One example or reason for my view is if you had a poor country they have no aid no money to help people wouldn't other people help you?

And on the other side if your country was rich and you need to help other countries that don't have enough aid obviously you would have to help them and give them money to take care of themselves and needed support you would also need to help them.

You don't have to but it's for the best because when you're in trouble with their national aid support they would be able to help you with bad things .

especially if they need food clean water and houses some of them are flooded that they have to stay in shelter that isn't enough for them to have.

  • I think countries give international aid mainly to benefit themselves rather than purely to help others. Although aid improves lives, governments often consider how it will strengthen their own political or economic position.
For example, China has funded infrastructure projects in Africa and Asia through the Belt and Road Initiative. While these projects help build roads and ports, they also increase China’s influence and create opportunities for Chinese businesses. In some cases, countries that struggle to repay loans have given China control over important assets, such as the Hambantota Port in Sri Lanka. This shows that aid can serve strategic goals.
The United States also provides aid to countries like Israel and Egypt, which are important for its security interests in the Middle East. This support helps maintain strong political and military alliances. It suggests that foreign aid is often connected to national security and global influence.
Some people believe aid is mainly given out of compassion, especially during natural disasters. While that may be partly true, aid can also improve a country’s image and increase its soft power.
Overall, I believe international aid is often used as a strategic tool to protect national interests, even though it does help people in need.

I think for this comment I will 3 stars for my true hardwork 😊⭐

    Thank you!

  • I think there are many reasons why nations provide international aid. One of the most important reasons is humanitarian duty. When a nation is affected by natural disasters, wars, famine, or health crisis, international aid is important for saving lives through the provision of food, medical care, shelter, and other forms of assistance.

Another important reason for providing international aid is to assist with development. International aid can be used to improve educational systems, medical care, infrastructure, and access to clean water. By doing so, the providing nation can help create a more stable and self-sufficient nation.

Countries also provide aid in order to ensure international stability and security. Poverty and instability may cause conflict, refugee crisis, and the spread of diseases. Providing aid to needy countries will ensure that such problems do not arise in other regions of the world, this ensuring international stability and security.

Economic and strategic interests are also an important factor. Providing aid may help improve economic ties and establish new markets. By providing aid to friendly countries, other countries may also cooperate with them on international issues.

Finally, international aid helps to ensure goodwill and cooperation among nations. In today's increasingly interdependent world, helping others helps to ensure progress and a stable international community.

  • I think countries give aid to other countries mainly thinking on their selves and in the future. Maybe now your country is in a good position and doesn´t have any big problem, and the other country is really suffering, on that situation you should first of all on the people that live there and if they really need help, to contribute is not bad but always you must be thinking on how your country is developing if you have the possibilite to help or not. Continue with what I was saying before, aids are give to build a kind of alliance with the other country because then when your country will be on a difficult situation and need help from others, those countries you had helped before, will remember how you help them when they needed, so if they are honored they will help you, and likethis you will have a new kind of alliance which could benefit you a lot on th future, because always you join anyone you will improve and things will became much easier than if you go always indvidully.

  • This argument is not about whether nations provide aid for altruistic or selfish reasons, but rather how nations can ensure long-term stability in a globalized world.
Both arguments rely on the same tacit assumption: that foreign aid must be motivated by one reason and one reason only. One side argues it is for altruistic reasons. The other argues it is for selfish reasons. However, nations do not make decisions based on one reason alone. They make decisions based on security, economic, reputation, and influence considerations simultaneously. Reducing this argument to “good intentions vs. bad intentions” is a gross oversimplification of how governments actually work.
The more pertinent question is not what the motivations are for foreign aid, but rather what the strategic outcome of foreign aid is. Success should not be measured by how humanitarian a nation looks or how much short-term political gain it reaps. It should be measured by how much it decreases instability in the world – less conflict, less forced migration, better public health infrastructure, and more stable economic partners.
If we continue to measure aid on the basis of whether it is “selfless” or “selfish,” we will continue to encourage symbolic aid, projects that are done with the intention of looking good or getting publicity. This will result in short-term visibility rather than long-term resilience.
International aid is better understood not as charity or manipulation, but as a means of creating a stable international environment in which all nations can operate more securely.

  • I think that the reason why countries give international aid is that cooperation between them makes the world a safer place for all of us to live in. When a country is going through hard times, the aid given to it by other countries helps to alleviate the suffering and prevents global problems from occurring.

    My arguments:

    1. Our world is a global village, and what happens to one country may affect many others. When there is famine or war, the effect of that war or famine may be felt all over the world.

    2. When a country is given aid, it shows that all the people of the world have a shared sense of humanity. Whether a country is big or small, rich or poor, all people have the right to live safely and with dignity.

    3. When aid is given to a country to help it educate its children or to provide clean water, this aid helps to create a better future for the children of that country, which in the long run helps to build the economy of that country.

    4. For instance, when there was a war going on in Palestine, the people there were in desperate need of aid. Countries like Egypt sent trucks full of food and medicine to the people of Palestine. This shows that international aid is provided to save lives.

But there are also people who say that international aid is provided to help themselves, to make themselves look good on the international scene.

In conclusion, I think that international aid is important to the global community, and it helps create a safer world for all of us to live in.

Thanks for reading my opinion on the topic – I hope it was clear what I was saying! 😊

  • I think most of the time countries give international aid to help others. If a country has suffered a natural disaster, or it is in a war, there will always be another country supporting it.
However is true that some countries only give aid so they can benefit in future occasions and do not care about the well being of the local people.
Also, if a country (for example: the USA) has had problems in the past with another country (for example: Japan), they may not help eachother in rough times.
But in my opinion we should all help eachother because at the end of the day we are all humans and we bleed the same colour despite our skin tone or gender.

  • I believe countries give aid to help poor or needed countries and also to gain another ally. One example is what is happening between Russia and Ukraine, many countries are helping Ukraine by sending them military aid to defend their country. However, other countries send aid because the one who is attacking the country is their enemy or because they only want that country to be good for their own benefit. This is a very delicate topic because lots of people can think differently.

  • I think countries give aid mainly because they want to help other countries, who are their allies. One reason for my view is that if they are allies, they would want to help each other or make up for any wrongs they did to the other country before. However, others might think that countries give international aid because they want to benefit themselves. They might think this because if people give better aid, when the country you gave aid to becomes a strong country, they could give even better aid back to you.

  • I think countries give aid so that they can support each other for example if a country is at war with another country and they need food or money we would give it. Although if a country is already lacking and need it as well they don’t have to give. But if a country is safe and secure they should definitely give aid to people that need it.

A country could have just flooded had there houses could have been destroyed and they could be very injured they need aid to get better and feel safer.

  • I think countries give aid because they want to help themselves, but also to help others. Countries often do good things, but they also think about their own future.

Countries like United States and China give money and support to poorer countries. This can help them make new friends, improve trade, and have more influence in the world. So aid can be good for their economy and power.

In my opinion, international aid is not only about one reason. It is a mix of reasons, countries want to do the good thing, but want to protect their own future.
