The lesson was very impactful to me because Dr. Shawn Pandya encouraged women not to let others oppress them but they should stand up and speak up for what they want. Another thing she said that I think will be really helpful was "Children shouldn't be disappointed when their parent do jobs that people think are not for women." I agree with that because most times children might not want to share the parents occupations with anyone because they think they might be laughed at or so but sometimes they might not know that by sharing it and being proud of it, they might inspire others to try and push beyond boundaries and do what people think is impossible.
I also learnt a lot about most of the Male development industries. I discovered out that most jobs we have like engineering, AI programmers, commercial pilots, and so on have nothing less than 26% percent of women which is really disappointing. Also in male led development, there are lot of things and equipment design for men only without putting women into consideration for example the seat belt, hand set, piano, astronaut suit, air bag and so on. And as a result of this, a flight into space was cancelled because the outfit wasn't appropriate for the women. But eventually it was adjusted and was more suitable.
To conclude, I hope the same impact that Dr. Shawn Pandya had on me it will also impact others too so that they can strive to do what people think is impossible and reduce the time span in which people think gender equality will be fully achieved.
I agree because... Dr. Shawna Pandya was a very remarkable person she stood out for all women so that she can fight for the right of women and convince other people to give them opportunities to do different jobs so that maybe in the future the world will become a better place and women also will become great people in life. This is an important thing that should happen, we should give others opportunities to become great in life. Becoming great in life has nothing to do with gender, so gender should not be a determining factor to greatness. Women should be given the opportunity to bring their thinking and problem-solving skills to make a change in the world. Let us follow SDG Goal 10- REDUCED INEQUALITIES, this means we should decrease inequalities and increase equalities. Women should be involved in every space and given the opportunity to speak up.
I support this point of view, because women truly face a lot of problems that needs to be addressed. women just like any other people on the planet, have space and can do great works.
yeah they are also trying to expose to the world that what men can do women can do better which also build up their freedom of speech and expression
That was such a powerful reflection! Dr. Shawn Pandya’s message were truly inspiring, and I love she highlighted the importance of speaking up and breaking stereotypes. The point about children being proud of their parents’ jobs really stood out to me—so many people struggle with this, and this could uembracing it could inspire others.
It’s also eye-opening to hear about the gender gap in male-dominated industries and how so many everyday things are designed without considering women. The spaceflight example really shows why inclusivity in design matters.
We did the classroom lesson and it was extremely interesting because of the new news and informations that I knew. This lesson taught me more about gender inequality for example, women work more than men but are paid less than them, many girls in different countries still don't have access to education. However, I knew that there are some countries that achieved gender equality but not fully so we cannot say that the problem is solved. All of my classmates were asking questions that made us all think. These questions were like " How much time would it take to achieve gender equality?" " What are the solutions that may help to reduce gender inequality?" " Is it the responsibility of the government to reduce gender equality?" One of my classmates said that it is approximately 300 years to have equality. And for the second question, there were a lot of answers including:
1- Spread awareness
2- Show role models for women and girls
My own solution was to TAKE ACTION towards people who are treating women or girls violently (gender inequality) One of my classmates said something that changed my whole mind about the effect of space exploration and gender inequality. He said that space exploration can help to reduce inequality by showing that women can work like men.
To conclude, we did the classroom lesson and it was really useful to me and all my classmates. One last thing I want to add is that recognizing the problem is considered as 50% of the solution.
During the classroom lesson, it really surprised me how seat belts in cars are usually designed for male, meaning that women have a higher chance of getting injured in car accidents. I've suggested another thing I've seen in my local stores. Many produce packages portray a picture of a man using or wearing the object; it is made for men rather than both genders. Such as a knee brace, even the extra small sizes are still large, but average for a small man and would be able to fit a woman. It is stereotypical that women would not need these braces as it is believed that they do not usually take part in risky sports or activities.
Furthermore, not only in everyday life and economy, but also religions. As a Buddhist speaking, I have seen many stereotypical rules. Monks will always be higher in rank than nuns, even if they had ordained at a later time or does not follow as many strict rules.
I find your comment really interesting regarding Buddhism and the gender hierarchies, I wouldn't have expected gender stereotypes to feed into religion so much. When reflecting on your comment, I realised that within my own religion of Catholicism, women don't feature in prominent roles.
Our teacher told us about her favourite book "Invisible Women" that also uses the seatbelt fact to support gender inequality, I find it surprising that women's well-being and health does not seem to be a priority for women's health - this was supported in the lesson when it spoke about the all-female spacewalk and how the spacesuits had not been designed with women in mind - even though they were astronauts in their own right. I think it is important that we continue to raise awareness over these inequalities so that women feel seen and cared about.
I really agree with your perspective I also wanted to add that companies that make things for both genders should take the measurements from different examples.
I agree because... i think objects like seat belts which are designed for safety should not be made for a specific gender. especially as women cloud be pregnant and if they are in a car crash their is a higher chance of a misscarrage because the seatbelt is designed for men and not gender neutral
In today's lesson, I was very impressed with the different examples that my classmates gave to me about women's equality rights. For example, one of my classmates was discussing about how people tell a women, "It's okay if you don't want to have kids.". Which I agree with this statement because there are lots of people that tell women that they are only there to stay at home, help the kids, or cook. But then you realize that some women don't want to spend their time doing that instead they want to live their lives at their greatest so they don't think about kids as much. Or another reason they don't want kids are because of their economic problems that they have, and if they want to have a kid their debt will grow more. There were a lot more topic that we talked about, within gender equality, but this is one that just impressed me.
In our class we listed the types of gender inequality and we shared stories with one another about our mothers experiencing this topic. Then we made connections between the stories. We came up with the claim that delta tends to display gender inequality towards women as for pay and labor. Then our teacher shared what gender inequality looked like when she was growing to help us understand how serious this problem really is. Lastly we reviewed what we talked about and shared how we felt and connected with this particular topic and dicusion.
The lesson was very meaningful and encouraging. Dr Shawna Pandya said that females should speak up and not let men take them down. There are some jobs that people think women shouldn't do. Shawna siad women can be astronauts just like her and her team mates. This lesson inspired me a lot i hope you are also inspired by this lesson. Yes women can be all they want to be if they can just believe in themselves and keep working on becoming the best versions of themselves. Yes women can really do great things, I am inspired to know that nothing can stop women if they set their minds to it.
THANK YOU.
What I learnt in the lesson that we did is that gender inequality is not just ladies or men, gender inequality is for everyone, because everyone has been treated unfairly and at the same time it can destroy the world, and we also learned that in a study in UK, an of average 24% of mother earn less than fathers a year.
Sally Ride was the first American woman to go to space in 1983 and while she was having her interview, she was asked what make-up she was going with, they also asked who was going to cook and if she cried under Pressure.
Thank you.👏
During my classroom lesson, I was surprised by how mothers have less of a chance to get a job or promotion. It also surprised me how diffrent things like seatbelts were built for men.
I was also surprised About Mothers having less of a chance to get a job or promotion because don't they need the money more than most men to help feed their children.
More examples of how gender inequality should be mostly fixed is jobs industries and accidents that could happen doe women. Most mothers nowadays are single so they need jobs to care for their children.People view mothers as less "hard working" yet mothers need to provide for their children which can lead them Into poverty and not enough food on the table to feed.I've felt more sympathetic for women as being trapped in this stereotype that they aren't strong, smart, or capable enough to be able to get jobs and be safe from car accidents.I wish more women can be given the chance to have jobs and such. Its really depressing how today's society works.
The classroom lesson was enthusiastic and enjoyable. I learnt that women could be astronauts I used to think there were no women astronauts
The lesson was extremely impactful and effective to me because I have learnt a lot of new information. In that school day, I learnt how the women work hard for their family especially her husband besides her sons and daughter. I also learnt about the history of the woman in Egypt. Furthermore, I was educated about the promotion and the pay that the women take moreover I knew that men also are treated wonderfully however women are treated badly since people believe that they are weak so they cannot do any job. At the end of the lesson, each group was given a paper and the teacher said to each group a question about gender inequality. My group's question was, how does your country (Egypt) solve gender inequality? Luckily, I was represented by the teacher to say the answer of the question. My answer was that governments in Egypt order the companies to employ women and announce them with a great salary.
Really, it was a great experience that I learnt in it a lot and my brain was full of useful information. In addition, I was very excited at that day.
Thanks for reading.
Glad you enjoyed the class and got a lot from it!

I had an amazing lesson-it was respectful and sparked many discussions that really made us rethink our ideas. I had the best hour ever with my classmates and teacher. One of the biggest debates we had was whether do we really need to improve gender equality. Some people argued that it's already come a long way, after all, women didn't have option to work back in the 1900s, but know others do. However, others believed that progress isn't enough and that we still have a long way to go. In the end, after a long and thoughtful argument, we all agreed that we should continue to improve gender equality.
What I heard from DR. Shawna Pandya made me change my mind, as I thought that having women in space would change only things in space, not on the ground. DR. Shawna explained using facts and also shared many opinions, but tried to support them with facts.
I think the change makers in the lesson are like heroes. These guys are standing alone, challenging many others, and are willing to make huge changes in the world, society and community.
To conclude, this lesson changed many of our minds, and we had many discussions. All of us were happy, and every person left the class learning something new.
When our class did the lesson and had our discussions, we had often found that there were several other things that connect with gender roles in modern society. Some of the conversations during the lesson would branch from just genders in workplaces to the shame on different genders staying home to how mental health between the two genders can be affected by these stigmas.
Elaborating more on how mental health can be affected by these predetermined roles in the world, we would talk about how women are often viewed as "too emotional" and "led by heart before brain", while men are supposed to be stronger and never cry because that makes them weak as many people seem to think. Due to this thought of men showing vulnerability and emotion, they stop consulting with anyone to talk about their feelings because they don't want their manhood to be stripped from them. In many articles or just by searching "Men's mental health statistics" you will see something along the lines of "Nearly 1-10 men have depression or anxiety, but never tell anyone about it."
Although women are viewed as emotional and sentimental, they get their mental health taken into consideration more. While men often have to suffer in silence, just so that they aren't viewed as weak and a crybaby to their family and friends. This was a big discussion for our group because the staggering statistics when researched provided evidence to this.

The lesson was interesting. The lesson refreshed my memory of stereotypes and gender inequality. I learned that some products are made to specifically suit men, like an airplane seatbelt. The lesson stated that airplane seatbelts were tested on men shaped dummies and they were made specifically for men. I learned that many places experience gender inequality. And that there is the motherhood penalty, and male led developments, like the airplane seatbelt. We had discussions about stereotypes on men and women. Such as men being seen as weak when staying home with their children or that women are seen as less capable of doing jobs such as construction or being in political office. Overall, the lesson was insightful and informed about gender inequality successfully.
The lesson was so Important. Because it inspires women to work in an only men fields and workspaces it. It also made realize that women can work in the same position as men put still be payed less and I heared that women get 40% less men in same position as her. This lesson made me focus more in gender equality although we all think we are genderly equal but we men get more privileges than women like if two people applied to a job and one was woman and the other was a man the company or the workspace is more likely to choose the man cuases they believe they're more responsible than women
In order to achieve gender equality w need to choose people by there knowledge, certificates and degree levels not with there gender or color.
From the reasons to achieve gender equality is there is some mothers need high salaries in order to make there fatherless children live normally like children who have fathers.
In conclude we need to empower mother, women, and girls in order to achieve gender equality
We did the classroom lesson and I actually learnt a lot. Dr. Shawna Pandya really taught me a lot and her occupation proved that there are no jobs that are really for women and men. Jobs are jobs and there is nothing like 'a man's job'. Most times, women can do what most men can't and even do it better. It really isn't fair that sometimes women take up job offers and are laughed at or mocked or paid less because the jobs are said to be for men. The jobs like bus driving, heavy lifting, football, engineering etc., are just jobs and should not generally be seen as men's jobs.
Women and young girls should be encouraged to take up any job they desire to and should be supported and not discouraged.
THANKS.
The classroom learning was good, Astronaut Shawna Pandya talked about women.
She mentioned about women who are discouraged because of some of the activities which men are involved but women are not she encouraged them to never give up in whatever they are doing. My point is that some children do not rely on their mothers because of this. They believe their father can do anything because they are mostly employed. We also did an activity that if you answer all the questions correctly the numbers that you shaded will give you the shape of a rocket with an astronaut inside at the top of paper. I learnt some new things from the class discussions and it was fun
We did the classroom lesson today and it was REALLY interesting and also fun! I found out a lot of things about women in space, gender inequality and other things. I was also excited about this lesson since i like space a lot and the fact that we learned about women astronauts was really cool! I always found being an astronaut interesting but i thought I will never be an astronaut since every astronaut i heard about or even learned about at school was a man. That made me think that I will never achieve that, but today after i learned about all these great female astronauts i changed my mind about the fact that i cant be an astronaut. I dont know if i will ever achieve it since its a lot of hard work but anything is possible.
We've also seen a video that was a world cup advert where they use ai generated imagines to make women look like men, that way they could attract the male audience easier since there is an incredible amount of men who see women's football as boring, after that i hope every man that thought women cant play football changed their mind.
Yes, we did discuss the lesson in the classroom today and I think that people who travel all the way to space are very brave. I personally would be really scared if I would be in space, because I’d think that I could fall into a black hole or get lost any minute. I also think that women who travelled to space don’t give up easily because many people tend to underastimate them and say that men are the only people who can actually succeed in life, because usually women are stay-at -home moms. I don’t agree with this stereotype because many women succeed much more than some man in the world. Many women are brand creators, astronauts and so many other incredible jobs that some man can’t even be bothered to try.
In our classroom lesson we first watched a video about the moon landing and how Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin arrived on the moon in 1969. Then we watched an informative video about the first women in space: Sally Ride-first American woman in space, Valentina Tereshkova- first woman in space and May Jameson-first African American woman in space. We also talked about a woman pilot named Jerrie Cobb. She broke the record for time spent in an isolation tank which means she was qualified as any official astronauts, but she wasn't allowed to go in space because she had to do the military testing pilot school. However at that time women weren't allowed to go to the military testing pilot and this is why she was never allowed to go into space. It was so unfair for her. After that we've played a game where we got four cards and had to decide if it's a statical problem, an Earth problem or a space problem. For example a statical a problem would be that just only 26% women work in with AI. After we finished this game we had a little quiz about the game we have just played.
As a boy, this lesson taught me a lot more about gender inequality across the globe and how it affects women on a daily basis from all countries. Something should change so we have a more fairer society.
About this subject of the inequality’s power and how it influences the earth but also the space. Dr. Shawn Pandya’s videos were very inspiring and she really encourages women to pursue their own dreams and her like many other important women, Sally Ride for example, the first American woman in space and all the others who where basically “the brains behind the operation “ that made space and walking on the moon possible.
For sure we still deal with a lot of imbalanced statistics, man dominating industries like construction or people thinking less of women who are also mothers, just because in their perspective they aren’t as capable as a man. Tho Romania is not as affected by motherhood penalty, the pay gap between the gender being very low ( 60,6% working women and 78,9% working men), but there are a lot of stereotypes about women like “ Women can’t drive” or “ Blonde women are supposedly stupid” and so on.
In balance even if my country has a higher employment rate for women, then some , we do lack at showing respect to women and I think that is the most significant part and the start of all of the inequality’s problems.
The lesson was very to the point and in my opinion it changed many of the children's perspectives which were different and possibly wrong at the beginning.I was personally deeply impressed by how woman became astronauts and made it into the record books. Because of this aspect I began to believe that all jobs are for everyone and woman can do what people around them and men would never believe they were capable of doing.
Additionally, when teachers teach you in schools about space and planets they tell you about Neil Armstrong and men who made unbelievable discoveries but never teach you about what women discover. As a young girl I would like to learn more about woman.
Yes, today in class we talked about the differences between women and men in outer space and general !
I don't think it's fair for women to be considered weaker than men because they are the ones who give birth to us, go to work every day in addition to doing housework and cooking.
For exemple , in many things like football , space work , air plaining women are disregarded beacuse people think that they cant handle what men cant !
I always knew that women can do everything if they want to but Shawna Pandya made me think about the importance of space exploration even more.
I felt very inspired about the change-markers in the lesson beacuse women should suport women and toghether we should make men realized what they have done for so long !
I think the stereotypes are the most difficult problem to fix because this makes males more powerful than women. People think males are stronger than females and I don't say they are wrong because just males work in mines or constructions. But also, women can be smarter than men, and this is why women work more in offices. It's very hard to change people's mentality and this is why we should try or doesn't want to change the stereotypes are stronger than the stereotypes are not the stereotypes and this is the stereotypes and people who do not understand that you are entitled to change your own to change your own to the stereotypes of you to change your language and this is why I think the internet is a very good idea for you to change my mind as a very important person to the stereotypes and I don't understand what you do not understand that the stereotypes are not the same for me and this is the same thing I was talking to you
we did this lesson in the classroom today as it was a very interesting topic . This lesson was very impactful to me because Dr .Shawn Pandya is encouraging women that they should be able to stand up and speak for what they want. During the the lesson its surprised me how seatbelts in cars were designed for men meaning that women had a higher chance of injury . There are quite a few jobs that people think women shouldn't do . As a girl myself i get a lot of comments from different boys saying that I shouldn't play football but after watching Dr. Shawn Pandya i have learned to speak up for myself
thank you
I agree because... in my post I also said that Dr. Shawn Pandya and I am a boy and love football and know that there are girls that are really good at football and want to play and I don't think that there should be any thing is wrong with that.
Yeah, I we did the classroom lesson and I have leant a lot about the difference that women and men have I me personally I think it is very important because if the women and the men have the same job and they are working the same hours they should get the same amount of money and if girls work more then the men there should get more money because that girls get paid a lot less than the men.
In the classroom lesson I have also learnt that women do not get the jobs that they want because of their gender, also they are treated not the same because of their gender.
In addition in world war 2 the men went to fight and the women had to take offer the jobs the men had and when the war had ended there had to stay doing the jobs that the men where doing.
In conclusion to my paragraphs I think that someone needs to change the amount women get paid and to have the same as the men do. Someone also needs to change the jobs that the women can do and what women are allowed to do and if they want to do it there should be allowed to do it. Thank you topical talk
In this lesson we learn that most girls should step up for female rights this show that not only boys and men /male should doing most jobs because this world 🌍 should be more fare but in the lesson we learn that astronauts groups have started letting girls into it so this is the start of girl fairness so doing this topic is very good useful for girl-rights
We talked about inequality and how woman are treated unfairly this is a problem because woman are paid 24% less than men are which shows the inequality of men and woman as well women only make up 26% of the global AI workforce which shows this and they make sure that it is safe and it is designed to be a male dummy to make sure it is safe not woman dummys
I did the classroom lesson and I learnt that gender inequality is a global problem. In many industries the majority employed are men. In some countries including the UK, women get paid less than men ( the mother would get paid 24% less than the father). Linking back to the AI lesson, women make up 26%
of the global AI workforce. In addition, motherhood penalty is a problem as many women are treated unfairly and paid less due to others thinking women should be stay at home mums or not be committed to their work.
My parents work in construction. They both do the same job but my dad gets paid more. I think this is really unfair because if they both work their hardest and do the same hours then why should they be treated differently? This is the same with jobs containing STEM ( science, technology, engineering and maths). Only 26% of global STEM workers are women. It isn’t only male dominated industries, teaching is mostly women and men hardly work in child care. This doesn’t mean men don’t work in this industry, it just means that many are put under pressure not to or are not allowed to.
Many female astronauts are trying their hardest to inspire young girls to show that they CAN go to space and do whichever jobs they would like to. Only 12% of women have been astronauts.
I really enjoyed this lesson and want to thank my teachers and the topical talk team for making this possible.
The leson encouragement to women to work hard and their is no work that they can do.Women we not allowed to do any hard work like in the leson people thing that a woman can't go to space.men were for going to space .That teached that we should not consider that she is a woman or a man we should all take part in the activities to avoid gender inequality and make the world abetter place.Even we should top up from different cultures and communities because it support grnder inequality.
The lesson was very effective and Dr. Shawn Pandya was really helpful to my thoughts because she made me think about gender stereotypes. She showed that if women put there mind do it they can fuel their determination to do things just as good as men, better! However, I know that mothers get paid 24% less than fathers. It is unbelievable. This is why we need to solve the issue of gender stereotypes. We talked in class that it is affecting many women around the world and some are starting to live in poverty just because men are getting paid more. I thought that women should go on a strike and abandon their jobs to make the world see that they need women. Who is going to cook, clean, sweep, smile, sing, dance, act, model, be nice and many more? Without women, our world would be in jeopardy. Women help us to keep everything organised and just make the world a better place. Everyone agreed with me which means it is a valid point, but I welcome any discussion or disagreements. We need to speak up about gender stereotypes and change the way we think about women. Do this by going on a strike or something similar. Women can be great, but we need to prove it.
I was in awe throughout the lesson. Although I knew that inequality based on gender was a thing within my society, I NEVER thought about it within the space industry. This lesson goes beyond technological triumph, it focuses on the story of females within this industry and their perseverance, courage, and persistence when overcoming barriers. For females, space has not been giving them the same and equal opportunities as men yet they reached towards the sky and grab the stars making their mark not only seen but heard. Inspiring women like Shawna Pandya and Sian Proctor have become models for future generations to look up to. Sian's work is breath-taking and inspiring. Besides learning about these incredible females, I also learned further knowledge on just what the inequity they face is like, this wasn't so much a pleasant awe of admiration to learn but more of a sympathetic awe. I had no idea that mothers earned specifically 24% less than fathers and I was reminded that only 52% of the world's women work. Only about half the women on earth have the opportunity to pursue a career while the other half is forced to stick within the home chores. This was a sort of bitter-sweet lesson yet I believe females have already made a big change and impact, this is just the beginning. Females not only HAVE the potential but they will accomplish the barriers they face, more and more females will join the space industry if we hone in on the achievements that amazing females like Shawna and Sian as well as many others, have made.
The lesson was very dynamic and made me change my mind and also really made me rethink the things that I have learned about today, like learning about Valentina Tereshkova being the first woman in space in 1963 and learning that woman were very underrated and people didn't believe that the right place that they could help and work would be the space and things that were relied to it, well that's what really shocked me and impacted my mind for example the fact that some women were being looked with "the motherhood penalty '' and that they should do less important jobs and work less just because they were mothers.
In my classroom we talked about woman in space and other stereotypes about woman. It changed some of my perspectives about things in life and about space. Valentina Tereshkova is a wonderful woman and I look up to her because she was the first woman in space in 1963, I look up to all the woman that went to space because that's a big step for them and for woman in general. The thing that shocked me the most in class is that some woman don't think they are enough to be astronauts because "it's a mans job", which shouldn't be a problem for woman now because everyone has the potential if they want to believe in themselves.
One of the most urgent example of gender inequality to fix is women being compared to men or being given more tasks and getting paid less, being considered, not even knowing what woman are capable of, weak. My point is women are being brought down by men just because of stereotypes that were invented hundreds of years before. I didn't change my mind about anything, I've known about these problems long before, learned at a young age, I didn't changed my mind since then. I was pretty inspired by the women in the lesson, especially by the woman that's a mother, and an astronaut, or was, I can't really remember. It's just really inspiring for the reason that she went on the moon and set an example for all the girls in the world.
The lesson was very impactful for me as a young girl because I see that in some countries women are disrespected and most stereotypes are about them like "men should work and woman should stay at home with the child" or "woman can't drive". I am really glad that woman can be astronauts because in my opinion women are more responsible. Now all of us should have a different mindset and not think anymore that men are more superior than women.
We had a very interesting lesson today about woman in space and gender equality. We learned about certain different things about women's rights. For example, women can also be construction workers, miners or working out in the fields. Women should not be judged just by their gender. We also learned about the first people in space like Neil Armstrong, Valentina Tereshkova and Buzz Aldrin. Margret Hamilton helped Neil Armstrong go in space and land on the moon. If she wasn't there, Neil wouldn't even have stepped foot on the moon. Woman with children that went to space are very underrated. In some cases woman have to stay at home to cook and take care of their children. This is not very fair because woman should have the same opportunities and salaries as men when working. Men can also stay home with children to take care of them. We should normalise that!
A thing that surprised me this lesson is the number of women who have been to space and none of them are well known. For example, Valentina Vladimirovna Tereshvoka was the first woman in space, only 2 years after Yuri Gagarian, the first man in space. Also, in 1969, Neil Armstrong was the first person to step on the moon but, did you know that he was close not to go there because of a technical problem and, with the help of Margaret Hamilton's coding, he managed to get on the moon?
Dr Shawna Pandya helped me realise that being a mother and having a job is hard in some countries, for example, in New Zealand women are stressed with keeping their jobs and also taking care of their children since the child spends are expensive. But it's possible since Kellie Gerardi is an American astronaut who is also the mother of a 3 year old girl.
Through the lesson, i changed my mind about women football players which is also a subject we talked about. I watched an ad about the female World Cup which was AI edited to look like it was for men just to attract more audience. The players were making amazing moves and in the end, all the things they did was made by women.
Gender inequality is a huge global problem and I think it should be solved.
In today's lesson, we talked about the unseen, and unpraised help that many women have given to space exploration companys like NASA. They were the reason that a lot of space missions were successful. Our teacher gave us an example such as Margaret Hamilton which actually saved the Apollo 11 mission, but this important aspect of the missions success seems to go right over many peoples heads. We also took a look at womens football, as it is considered way more boring than the mens version. I also used to think that, but after expanding on the subject for some time, I realised that there isn't much of a difference, apart from the men being more popular, which is probably one of the reasons people prefer mens football. In the end, I have came to the conclusion that women can be just as good as men at some things. I'm still not fully convinced that a woman can do EVERYTHING a man can, especially when it comes to physical strength, because women simply don't have the genetics needed to compete with men, like in power lifting for example, or they are at least at a disadvantage.
The lesson was very interesting and eyes opening for me as i realised that women were set aside in many things and Dr.Shawn Pandya the astronaut women that appeared on the videos was capable to encourage lots of other women to dont let other people opress them and to dont care about their comments and opinions. Another thing that impacted me a lot of this lesson is the male development industries and the numbers that this part included this part. I cant remember the percentages right now, but I think that around 20-30% of the workers of some jobs are women, wich is a very low number and I dont think that it has nothing tobe with their capabilities, because most of this jobs dont require physical strenght.
In conclusion, I hope that this lesson opens the eyes of more people like it did to me and make them realise of the reality. ¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡
My class did the lesson and we learnt many interesting things about this topic. We had a discussion about stereotypes, the "motherhood penalty", male-dominated industries and male-led development, and we came to the conclusions that:
1. Stereotypes are outdated and misleading, because women can be strong, they can carry out jobs seen as masculine, they shouldn't be forced to act like delicate flowers because many of them are stronger and more hard-working that men will ever be.
2. Mothers work very hard to balance their jobs and homelife, just to be disrespected, undervalued and discriminated by others. This is unfair, as they should have equal opportunities and even extra support like everyone else.
3. Nowadays more and more women are choosing to work as engineers, astronauts, physicists..., but in the past, and even today in some parts of the world, these jobs are considered to be for men only. If more women were in charge of big companies, projects, or governments, we would make so many more achievements thanks to their bright minds.
4. Because industries were mostly run by men in the past, some things we have today were designed by and for men only, meaning they are not addapted to women's needs. For example, in some cars seatbelts are not designed to be comfortable for female chests; or some stairs or furniture are made taking the lenght of male legs into account, but not female legs.
These topics are very important, and Dr. Shawna Pandya is an amazing person for speaking out about women's rights and how women can be anything they want to be.
During our lesson, we had an incredibly interesting discussion about the overall amount of gender inequality. For example, the UK (Where our school is). We went from talking about the lack of women in the STEM environment and field, to talking more about a novel called "Invisible Women". There was a reference and a quote from the book inside the PowerPoint that, summarised, read; "Car crashes are more likely to seriously injure or kill women due to test dummies shaped and moulded to men and children models, which means female shaped bodies are more likely to suffer injuries due to a lack of research on that body type".
This grew my opinion because it really highlights how much society has grown accustomed to using men as role models. As a male myself, I never noticed much wrong about advertisements that came on television, for example, sometimes there might have been too many women in a cleaning advert, or all doctors were male and only nurses were female.
I grew up with these stereotypes, which forced those ideologies into my brain during a developing stage. This classroom lesson helped broaden my knowledge and understanding, therefore, this lesson critically helped me to identify and understand that gender inequality isn't just the gender pay gap, but human beings treating other human beings differently because they look different. After all, gender is just a human concept, created to segregate and distinguish.
Good comment, do you think increased effort needs to be made to prevent gender stereotypes within media shown to young people?
First of all, I would like to announce greetings towards my fellow students of this world, today I am going to be talking about the women in space. an example of this is Dr Norah Patten because shes the first Irish astronaut who's a woman, yet there hasn't been a male Irish astronaut. However, on that note, the 1st women astronaut was Valentina Vladomirovna Tereshkova and the 1st male astronaut was Yuri alekseyevich Gagarin. gender equality is a big problem in todays society an example of this is how people say that engineering and construction is for men when they can be for both genders!
I feel like this lesson has encouraged me to advocate and continue to support women's rights, I don't see the point or idea of superiority regarding: race, gender, sexuality or appearance, we are all humans living on this planet and we should neglect and discourage the superiority complex. Women should be treated with care, respect and equality.
When our class did the Gender inequality lesson, it really shocked me about how seat belts were tested using male featured crash dummies, meaning that women are way more prone to getting injured during a car crash than men and I respectfully believe that it is not fair because some women have a totally different body sizes and bone structure to males and this could; on the serious side, cause more deaths of women. Also, our class had a separate discussion about women's football and men's football and the gender pay gap for the tickets to see both teams and how much they differ in amounts. For example, our teacher mentioned a ticket to see England lionesses against Portugal was priced at £3, whilst if the men's England team played in the exact same place the tickets would range from £60-£70 or even higher. This is a massive example that proves and supports the idea of the gender pay gap within the football industry. Whilst I do understand that men's football has been around way longer than women's football, I do believe that there shouldn't be such a drastic pay gap just because people believe that men's football is more "entertaining" than women's football.
Thank you for reading!
The lesson was very impactful to me and everyone else, because Dr. Shawn Pandya encouraged women not to let others bully them at all because they have the right too as men, to do any job of their choice. In the ancient days parents says it is not useful to send a girl child to school because the think that after their education it will still end at kitchen. But with they help of this topic and Dr. Shawn Pandya women should not to let others bully or oppress them at all, and men should give women a chance to work in their areas of career and try their ability and skill before concluding.
Thanks
the lesson was both educative and resourceful it really made me think better and appreciate the women around me. They are not just made for kitchens or changing diapers of kids but are useful for a lot more. I used to think that a specific number of occupations where for men alone but it turns out that those particular occupations, if women put much thought, concentration and practice into them as men do they would do 10 times better than men for example, I used to think that only men could be Astronauts but now, from the lesson I had in class, Dr. Shawn Pandya help me understand the use and ability of women in our daily lives on earth and in space. it turns out that women are far more capable in being astronauts than men. Or as people know men are usually known for being mechanics, but in several cases that i have seen women attend to my moms car when damaged they tend to give a better service than men.
women has also physically proven to be able to bear more pain than man. An average pain a man can withstand is 25dols, and if some one was to have muscle pull on both legs it could be resulted to about 8-11dols, but during child birth, the level of pain women pass through is 65dols, so if it is possible that muscle pull can drive a man crazy and a woman can go through 6 times it and survive what level of pain would a man go through that women cannot go through.
so men around the world, please appreciate the great pain women go through for us and stop discrimination.
thanks.
we talked about people thinking this is girl stuff and this is boy stuff and I think its wrong.
in class we talked about stereotypes so like we said girls only like pink and different stuff like this
Hi Everyone!
- Yes, I think that gender stereotypes are a problem in the US because no woman has ever been found doing any male jobs that take effort. I learned that most people think that women can do those things or everything. They think women are not strong enough to take those hard working jobs. I've learned that most mothers make 52% less than males. As I can see, more men are used in these stronger jobs like,
-Construction (Building),
-Nasa, (Space)
-Basketball,
-Football,
-Firefighters,
-Racing
-And Soccer.
Women can't be used rarely in those jobs. People judge women the most. Women buy stuff for their children and if they don't have a job they can't do things like.
Cooking,
Take their children to school,
and also get a proper education.
If the mother has to go to work there has to be someone else to take care of the child If there is no one then they cannot leave to go to work. I don't think that we can prevent this from happening. This is seriously bad. I think this is unfair to some women who have children. This lesson would not be fair for women. Basically I feel like women should be treated better.
- Thanks
I learned a lot of information from this video and I agree with Dr. Shawna Pandya because she encouraged women to not be oppressed about other people's comments and stand up for themselves. And with women being able to lead future space projects that can be very important for a lot of research. And it is very remarkable of what Dr. Shawna Pandya did for women and for having such little as 26% of women having a STEM job does not make sense because women can also have the same capability as men for better jobs. And the thing is that the main reasons there is less employment for women is because of criticism and other expectations for women that can be cruel and unreasonable.
The lesson showed me that women need more rights to work in masculine jobs because during the lesson showed me that in most landscapers jobs don't have most women in it and that needs to change during the day I rarely see men tend to inside work instead of outside work .Most jobs or companies lead by men don't usually allow women and I also realized that most mothers are stay at home wife's .
You say 'most mothers are stay at home wife's' - can you give me some evidence of this? Can you make this claim for certain ?
Yes,think of a old movie or movie now about a classic family most of these movies have the Mother staying home while the father goes out but with children or not most of the women stay home while men go out to work in one movie I seen before it showed me about how men would go out to work and women stay home doing laundry, cooking, and tending to their indoors/outdoors garden, but shouldn't we think about how men should do those things to?
Also I have to ask have you ever seen a woman cut your grass?,I mostly seen men even if women may not choose to work with grass cutting I think workers, bosses ,or C.E.O's might be male also and they might be against women working for them. I may not be able to make my claim certain but maybe this evidence might help people agree with me.
This lesson was very impactful because Dr. Shawn Pandya was a motivational support to women and to not let men bring them down. She made sure that women could be able to stand up for themselves.
In our classroom lesson we learnt that not a lot of women get to go to space. Our school did the live lesson so we got to hear from an real Astronaut which was really cool we also got to hear from an artist and poet who got to go to space and we also heard from Andrew Aldrin who's dad (Buzz Aldrin) was the FRIST PERSON ON THE MOON!
it was really nice to hear from other schools perspectives as well.
i did the classroom lesson and it was so fun getting a shoutout but really engaging about learning of the difficulties of women i said that mother hood penalty was the most unfair but it was really fun me for me to be learning from space people
I learnt that motherhood penalty is very hard for mothers and that it is not fair for mothers because they are getting less money even though they need more; so they can feed their children and raise them and I learnt that stereotypes is very rude and unfair because girls and women can't have jobs that men have . If they wanted to go to space the space suits wont fit . If the man wanted to be a women would they be treated differently?
What we did in are classroom was that a live video was played. Also we did work to do with the work. The best part for me was that we got said on the live . Adding we got to do class pols one per class and there was lots of schools and classes. We said that woman should be better.
This lesson was fun and interesting to learn about because it was about people who were stuck on the moon like Neil Armstrong, who was the first person to land on the moon and Valentina who was also stuck on the moon along with Neil Armstrong who died.
The lesson was interesting because Dr Shawn Pandya said that women shoud go to space, and that they would help alot. She also said that women would have to wear men's space suits and it would be to big for them. This is also encouraging for women, because that she said that there would be an easier chance for them to complete missons and puzzles in them. I also think that mothers that have children and they don't get this job, are gonna have a hard time , so they should go to space.
we done the lesson so the mother penatly beacuse the astronaut women has children they well get pay in 1 year beacuse elon musk owns spacex and women astronaunt could take caring of the chllden because the chlidren and if i was a parnet i would go to the spacex is it will be cool if the mother penalty will a loud to be at home for the chllideren and the woman
Today we were learning about space. We were discussing about steriotyepes, for example people say that girls can't play football or men can't be a makeup stylist and it's just so unfair, but worst of all is that women get less money than men because men go to work but we have to look after our kids. If men were to look after kids and women would go to work would women get the same amount of money? In space there are the same problems, women can't fit in the astronaut suits because they are shaped for men. This is not fair.
I learned from the lesson that women ought to be given greater opportunities to perform jobs that are typically performed by men. We need to change the fact that there aren't many women in the landscape industry. I frequently observe men working outside during the day, but women are more likely to work indoors. Both men and women should have the freedom to pick the type of career they choose, therefore this doesn't seem fair.
I also discovered that many mothers choose to stay at home rather than work, and many male-owned businesses do not hire women. Women should be treated equally and have the same opportunity as men to work in a variety of occupations. This makes it equitable for both men and women to share duties at home and at work.
When my school did the live classroom session, it went amazingly smooth and informative. And it was also an interesting session too. my favorite part was at the end of the session I was inspired by a female astronaut who wrote a poem and drew painting in the space. I learnt that a poet or an artist can also be an astronaut. And write amazing poems and painting which express the feeling of an artist on outer space and in the future I also want be like her and I admire her and respect her a lot.
THANK YOU!
The lesson i learnt that women should not oppress but speak-up for want to achieve their we should give women other opportunities so they be greatest in life
I found today session very interesting because I was able to read points of view from other countries such as Nigeria or Kenya on the topic of space. Also these types of sessions helps the students to get deep into the topic with my teammates and express this point of views to the other students around the world. The issue of male-led industries also made me realize that in Mexico and in many countries around the world, this problem still exists. The principal problem that I found is that the industries or enterprises need to investigate or give more "importance" to the skills of the person and not if it is a women or Men. I understand that there's industries more focused to women or men like The industry of modeling in case of women, or maybe in some sports in case of Men. I think that is disappointing that in the industry of space the 6-7 % of the pilots are women. We can investigate what types of tests do the space enterprises like the NASA do and why is more significant the percentage of men's.
One of the discussion that stood out to me was what small step can be used to fix the problem of woman in space because something I had said was that we can make a situation where we can compare a female and a male going to space and they can make a comparison to show that that there is really no difference between the two, and i’m assuming that certain people would say that there is a big difference but in reality there isn’t, from what I found in my research. In conclusion there is no difference between a female going to space and a male going to space.
I did the classroom lesson and from that I learned lots of new things. I had classroom debates that changed my mind about something, and about how I felt. One classroom debate I had was about how we could solve the problem of man dominated industries, and I think that a really famous social media influencer could post about the importance of hiring women for jobs that they need, also someone could post about the fact that women are just as important as men. I also started thinking differently about space because of Shawna Pandya and she really inspired me and helped me understand how important space is. Lastly I think that Shawna is really inspiring and that she could be helping a lot of women.
The lesson was fun and interesting because we learned about space and female astronauts. And also gender problems we have had and still have. It talked about the difference between male and female astronauts space suits. I think it's not fair how men make all the inventions and clothes for male bodies knowing there are females working like they are and do not have the same body types. For example Nils Bohlin which is a male made seat belt. Since he is a man he made the seat belts just for males but didn't make them for females and again they don't have the same body types. We also talked about motherhood and talked about mothers and their careers. I think of my mother as an example. My mom works everyday and still makes sure we get what we need and still take care of us. Yeah my dad helps her but she still goes to work and get us ready for bed and more.
Great lesson - helped me understand a lot.
In my opinion i believe that stereotypes have a big impact on children on how they should be and act , due to this thre are less women doing mechanical work and there is less men doing things stereotypically women should do , i believe everyone has the right to be who they are and they should do what they believed is comfortable for them.
i massively agree with the idea of stereotypes being removed as it is destroying people doing ht they want to do in life, i also believe that stereotypes changes the way people think and behave which in both way is bad and good as some stereotypes can give someone confidence however it can also destroy there self esteem.
In my class i was shocked that women get paid or even get fired because they are pregnant or have a child.
I think that all genders should have a respected pay and equal rights .
The lesson has taught me that Gender inequality is a huge problem for loads of countries. It is also so sad to hear that women cannot do jobs that men can do. Social Media has a huge impact on this problem as people like to believe everything they see on Social Media and like to mistreat others on Social Media. This topic seems so inspiring for women that want to do the jobs that they would like to do. I would like to thank Dr. Shawn Pandya for encouraging women to do something that they like and to not listen to people that don't want them to succeed.
I have also learnt about the male development industries. For example there are around 4-6% female commercial pilots. I find this really disappointing as I have a huge interest in Aviation. Hopefully in the near future there will be a lot more female commercial pilots.
Hello everybody,
This lesson was quite eye opening to me and made me realise how far as a country and as a globe we have got to go to not have inequalities in every day life. We see in inequalities in the workforce and in everyday life with stereotypes and sayings that people use. I learnt that only 28% of women work in STEM workforce ( science, technology, engineering and maths). This was shocking to me as I thought that this would of been more balanced due to women being very capable at all the jobs available in this category. I learnt how some things were only designed with men in the vision. This can be things such seatbelts are made with only male anatomy in mind and how some stairs in London are made with the average male stride. This made me realise how unfair the world can be towards women and how they have to work twice as hard to get anywhere in life.
Dr Shawna Pandya also inspired me by saying that women are capable of getting anywhere in life if you put your mind to it. She shows that when she says it is a all female crew which is going into space with her. This puts forward awareness towards the situation and how it can be difficult for a female to work in STEM or get a equal paying job to them. This lesson also told me that we need to take action if they want less inequalities in the workforce and everyday life so that it is more even and less unfair.
Hello! yes, we did and it was incredible! I did not think things were so bad for women! Thanks you for sharing such a lesson with us! I will keep that in mind in the future.
Yes, I did. It was awesome. I learned so much about the problems women are facing. And I loved the idea to help women from space. Thank you for such a wonderful lesson!
today we talked about women in space and how they can be more successful in space and also how they can help us achieve our goals of being more successful in space by making our lives better and happier for everyone around us and our family and friends in the future.
I changed my mind during the lesson because I think it isn’t fare to only let boys and men go to space I it isn’t good to treat boys and girls differently they have to treat each other the and respect each other
I think we should let the same amount of men and women to do the same things and when they do things and when they do not do the same thing the world should be equal
and all get treated the same whenever anybody goes so we should respect love and have faith other people
I haven't had a lesson specifically on women in space yet , but I find the topic very interesting ! If I were to discuss it in class , I think we would have a lot of debates about the challenges women face in space exploration and what should be done to fix gender inequality.
One discussion could be how , historically , women were kept away from space missions, even though they were just as capable as men. We might debate whether things have improved or if more still needs to be done . I would probably argue that while progress has been made , equal opportunities and fairer chance is still needed.
If we talked about Shawna Pandya or other astronauts like Kalpana Chawla , I might change my mind about the importance of space exploration. Before I used to think space travel was just about scientific research , but learning about these astronauts could show me how space mission also inspire people and push the limits of human.
Learning about journeys and struggle would show me how determination and hard work can break barriers. Their achievements would motivate me to believe that gender should not limit anyone in pursuing their dreams , whether in space exploration or any other fields.
We did not do the classroom lesson but we had an intresting live lesson about this. We learnt that alot of women are unemployed or do not have a job. I think this is because most of the jobs are judged and considered ''jobs for men''.
You say 'a lot of women are unemployed' - can you make this claim for certain? Can you give me some evidence of this?
The classroom lesson was very engrossing as I learnt about how women like Dr. Shawna Pandya spoke and fought, so that people could not take her down. This lesson also taught me that, gender equality is not only for women but is for all the genders. I was surprised to know that seat belts were designed for men and not for women. Even women are having a lesser chance of having a promotion or advertisement. Al last, I would say “Gender equality is not a women struggle, but a constitutive struggle”
THANK YOU
The lesson on women in space was really eye-opening. We discussed gender inequality and how it still exists in many fields, including space exploration. One of the most interesting debates was about how long it would take to achieve true gender equality. Some classmates estimated it could take up to 300 years, which was shocking.
Dr. Shawna Pandya's story was inspiring. She encouraged women to speak up and break barriers. One point that really stood out was how everyday things, like astronaut suits, were originally designed without considering women. This made us realize how important inclusive in design is.
The lesson changed my perspective by showing that space exploration can actually help reduce gender inequality. It proves that women are just capable as men in challenging fields, breaking stereotypes and inspiring future generations.
yes, I did do the classroom lesson. During the lesson, we talked about the four problems with gender inequality. first, was stereotypes. On each one we talked about how they are a problem. After that we said if it's an earth problem, space problem, a number, or not a problem. After our discussions we moved on to the next one until we were done. During the lesson we watched videos on leaders who would talk to us about the topic. There was also an audio that told us what each word meant. During this lesson I learned that mothers would get less promotions and pay less than fathers. This is the motherhood penalty. When I heard of the motherhood penalty, it reminded me of the gender pay gap. this is when women get near 80% of what men get paid. Another thing I learned in this lesson was Male led development. I found out this cancelled the women spacewalk since they couldn't fit the space suits. some other examples of male led development are shoes. some shoes were made to fit the size of an average man. Overall, this lesson helped me learn about how stereotypes make people expect most women to be the same and other things like that. This lesson also showed me that gender inequality is still a big problem today that people should try harder on fixing.
We had a discussion about women in different fields and as well as the problems of gender inequality. Today few students changed my thought about gender inequality. They told that not only women but men also suffer the same problem but in smaller scale. But why does society judge male or female? We got to know about the causes as well as effects of gender inequality that a child is judged according to their gender and are made ready for this. We learnt about how mothers need to take care of children and also work at the same time. Our beloved tropical talkers shared their thoughts making us wonder about the consequences in our country. How male dominated industries stop women from progressing. It was overall a great lesson l got to know and my favourite one.
Thank you for creating this hub that allows us to share our personal views and ideas.
THANK YOU
My school lesson on this topic was incredibly enlightening. It highlighted how women encounter stereotypes in society and how they manage to overcome them. Additionally, we explored how male-dominated industries, such as engineering, create obstacles that hinder women's paths to success in their preferred fields.
Yes, I did the classroom lesson, it showed lots of point of views and how we can help contribute to change gender inequality. The lesson also taught me how important space actually is and what role it might play in gender inequality and overall inequality in general. This lesson made me realize tons of things and how we can indefinitely impact inequality especially in space. During the lesson we talked about many things such as gender inequality, male-dominated industries, male led development industries, and the motherhood penalty, all of the things listed was very new information for me especially with the motherhood penalty and how that also can affect space and their community.
We talked about some of the issues in space that I listed such as how male-dominated industries is mostly in construction, STEM, and engineering which can as well go with the motherhood penalty which causes specifically mothers to be paid 24% less than fathers or men. This is a major issue that also is shown in space with the lack of female inspires in the industry. There also faces another problem in space with male led development which was also demonstrated with how the design of the spacesuits were originally designed for a man's body which adds up to many of the issues with inequality in the space community.
In conclusion yes, I did the classroom lesson and actually acquired new information about how all of these issues can also affect the space community and how we can start to help impact a change in inequality in the industries from helping spread awareness and concern.
The lesson was amazing, encompassing all possible concerns. Some debates between my classmate and me involved his argument that some fields, such as engineering, are oriented toward men. However, nowadays, women have special reservations in top entrance exams. Someone also said that maternity leave is a big issue in India, but I countered by saying that legally, women are allowed up to 26 weeks of maternity leave. Some discussions really changed my mind; the expectation for men to earn is an example of gender inequality. Here, if a man is skilled in classical dances or spends more time with his kids, he is disrespected by his in-laws. It is termed unusual when women earn a living for a household. A problem that concerned us was the involvement of women in politics. Here, people tend not to elect female leaders, which leaves a dent in parliamentary proceedings, as fewer women mean less diversity. We discussed who is responsible for gender equality. The answers surprised me, one said that only women because men benefit from inequality. I opposed the point by stating, 'Women is women's biggest enemy' as I have listened stories from elders saying that their mothers never dared to break the system. This weak mentality over the years made women weaker. If a mother stops her child from going out with boys, then the same thinking might be passed down to when the child becomes a parent. This starts a domino effect. Personally, I am most inspired by Draupadi Murmu, the only tribal woman president of India. She is a strong example for tribes and women. This was all an amazing lesson.
This lesson taught me about gender inequality a lot and also that how to think by your own perspective. I got to know about many reasons for gender inequality like stereotypes, the motherhood penalty, male dominated industries and male led development. I also really enhanced my speaking skills and learnt how to think of your own perspective and how to express it politely. This was a really amazing and helpful lesson.
The zoom lesson was very knowledge packed it showed me how women can break astonishing boundaries. Like Dr.Shawn Pandava. It helps me get a better grasp of the overall topic and everything that contributes to it. Another thing that was impactful was that the artist/astronaut Dr,Sian Leo Proctor showed me that there are other ways to go to space than what I am used to. I was a real out of this world experience
Today my class did topical talks that we watch videos and our teacher put something on it. There were three numbers and we did it four times. My classmates said the number and we got one wrong . and we talk about females and males. males said that women should be at home to take the kids. females get little money than males they get more money than women and I don't think that is not fair. that is the lesson that I learned today.
Today In class we did a lesson from topical talks. I learned that women and men are treated unfairly women are mistreated and men are treated better. For example a woman can have the exact same job as a man and be better than the man at it but again since women are mistreated the man will still get paid more. Another example is that if a man and women were to compete for job promotion the man would get it because sadly according to lots of people women cannot do the same things a man can, can you believe that! Lots of people often think women should just stay home to take care of children or housework.
During our classroom discussion we realized how serious gender equality is. I always knew that people would tend to think more about men than they do women but this lesson opened my eyes and helped me see that there was so much more going on. At first we discussed some instances where women in our family might have faced gender inequality. Next, we further elaborated on the idea of gender equality and used some of the questions presented here in topical talk to have a more in depth conversation. Lastly, we closed out with some adding remarks and questions that we might have about the topic. In the end this lesson really strengthened my understanding in gender equality and my belief in women to accomplish anything they set their mind to.
Yes, I did the lesson about women in space with my teacher, and wow, it was incredible! I’d never really thought about how much women have done in space, and it felt like my brain was blasted into a whole new world! The discussion with my classmates was so exciting, like we were all astronauts having a heated debate in space. We argued about which gender inequality is the most urgent to fix, and it was like everyone’s ideas were fireworks lighting up the night sky. Some said pay inequality was the biggest issue, others thought more women should be in science jobs, especially in space. It felt like every opinion was a rocket soaring through the conversation.
Dr. Shawna Pandya’s talk made me rethink space exploration. I didn’t care much about it before, but when she talked about how important it is for everyone to work together to explore space, it felt like she turned on a lightbulb in my head. It made me realize how much more there is to space than rockets and fiction, it’s about working together and pushing limits.
The change-makers we learned about were like real-life superheroes to me. They inspired me to think that if they can break barriers in space, I can break barriers in my own life too. This lesson showed me that women have already done amazing things in space, and it made me believe that anyone can make a difference if they work hard enough.
The lesson for me was quite enlightening and impactful as I learned about the contribution of Dr.Shawna Pandya and was thrilled to know about her achievements, however I was disappointed by the fact that most of the women aged 25-52 were not much employed while the number for men was a skyrocketing percentage.
We had an amazing debate about whether corporates should cover the motherhood expenses like hospital visits through a designated insurance or not , in this debate various facts served as an eye-opener like out of 1,094 companies only 722 provided a full maternity coverage which excluded any complication that happened during labour or after it while providing full aid for even the smallest of issues . Those against this ideology claimed pregnancy to be a pre-existing condition hence excluding it from insurances. In the end we reached to the conclusion that suggested that just like any condition pregnancy should be covered under these insurances by the corporates while indicating towards a better structure and framework for mothers rather than imposing motherhood penalty .
I think this lesson was a great success. We learned about a lot of women inequalities and sufferings in daily lives. We also discussed about great women like Kalpana Chawla and Sally rides. Eventhough after the lesson most of the students had friendly debates on why inequality is there and what should be done to stop it. I was a bit sceptic about it. Another serious question came to my mind. Was inequality only for women or men were facing it too? When we diccussed about it to our teacher she also agreed that this problem was rather complex.
like- when a women is pregnant she gets a maternity leave probably worldwide but paternity leaves are rare.
If a man has a job like dancing or cooking he is always looked down on even from his family.
If a father stays home to take care of the child he is insulted to let his wife work and do nothing.
I am not saying that women don't face these problems ofcourse they do like they don't get equal opportunities or in elections most don't vote them doubting their abilities(ex.Kamla Harris). They are not allowed to work or even educate in most of the places. Resulting in the suppression of their potential. I also learnt about women like Shawna Pandya who contributed greatly in women equality through thier work. But I think due to common stereotypes both genders are facing problems.
No doubt women are facing more problems than men. Most of the safety devices are tested on a man dummy resulting in women getting more hurt if an accident occurs. They are given lower posts than men.
This lesson taught me a lot of things and I am greatful for it.
This lesson and topic really surprised me in a good way because i wasn't expecting to learn anything new since latelly the topic of women in the laboral world and sexism is so talked about, and of course I think it is a really good thing that it has the recognition it deservs and that so many people are working together to fix this problem, back to the lesson I actually learned so much, from what are male dominated industries to what is male-led development, this last one had an special impact on me, mostly when Dr Shawn Pandya said that there are no spacesuits wich fit women properly, I think this is something that needs to be addressesd as soon as possible because it could be dangerous or maybe just really uncomfortable.
From my point of view and I think most people's, seeing this kind of women, who follow their dreams without hesitation even if everyone is against them is an inspiring experience . I personally don't like science but I still think it is not the only feild mainly occupied by men and this lesson showed me that I shouldn't let anyone take my passions away.
Wow! The lesson about women in space was *mind-blowing*! It totally changed how I think about space exploration and how women have been a part of it. Before this lesson, I thought space was just for scientists and astronauts, but now I realize how much women have done to make it possible, even when people told them they couldn’t! It’s like they were pioneers, just like explorers sailing across unknown oceans, except their "oceans" were galaxies!
We had such an awesome debate in class. Some of us were talking about how gender inequality affects women in space exploration, and I couldn't believe how unfair some things still are. It felt like the whole world was upside down when we discussed how hard it was for women to even get a chance to be astronauts just because of their gender. *Imagine being told you can't go on an adventure just because you're a girl!* That's crazy, right?
The coolest part was learning about Dr. Shawna Pandya. She made me think that space exploration is *way* more important than I thought. It’s not just about science—it’s about *changing the world* and proving that anyone can reach for the stars, no matter what they look like or where they come from. Her story made me feel like I could do anything too. *If she can go to space, why can’t I?*
The change-makers in the lesson were super inspiring. I felt like they were little sparks that could start big fires of change. I want to be like them.
How do you think women in space will inspire future generations?
I learned in the lesson that gender inequality is not just about men or women it affects every one many people have faced unfair treatment which can create serious problem in society we also learned that mothers earn on average 24% less than fathers per year Additionally when Sally Ride became the first American women in the space in 1983 she was asked unfair question like what makeup she was taking whithe her
In my class lesson, I learned that women in Egypt are facing a lot of calamities and disasters because of the old traditions furthermore the lesson was extremely fantastic.
Can you explain more about what you know is happening in Egypt?
I believe that woman face a lot of problems and injustice in Egypt. Here are some of them.
Women in Egypt are seen by the Egyptians in a bad way that They are extremely weak . people see them like an unliked type of chocolate in a pack of chocolate. They can't work in factories .For example , in Helwan Factory, you can't find any woman working in it.In Egypt women are invisible for the governments because government make systems that are only suitable for the men like the air bags in the cars and the gyms. In upper Egypt also, women are forced by their families to stop education and marry early. This can affect their health and mentality . Early marriage can cause death .This is terrible.women also can be provided with less salary than men moreover they are hardly promoted .This is not fair at all. people think that men are in the first class but women are in the second class.
To conclude,I think that women must receive their own rights.
I hope you give me 3 stars
Thank you for your brilliant, wonderful and amazing reply.
In my class we talked about the penaltys for women like the unfair expectations and the motherhood penalty it is not the womens fault they have children but it is unfair that people think that when they have children they are no longer loyal to their jobs because they have children and then they get less pay and it is harder for them to upgrade in the industry so some just give up and leave because they feel like they do not fit in because they get less pay and oppurtunites to grow in the industry and male led equiment is not ment for women so they can only send male astronauts into space while there are capable women astronauts.
The live lesson inspired me, Dr. Shawn Pandya words made me feel like nothing is impossible, and that women are strong.
Yes, I did the lesson about women in space, and wow, it was like stepping into a whole new world! I never realized how amazing women astronauts are and how much they’ve fought for equality in a world where space was mostly a "boys' club." We had such an epic debate in class about which gender inequality is the most urgent to fix. Everyone was so passionate, like an army of superheroes trying to save the day! Some thought it was about equal pay, others thought it was about getting women into top positions in space agencies. It felt like a tug-of-war with opinions flying everywhere, like a whirlwind!
What really blew my mind was Dr. Shawna Pandya. Before the lesson, I never really thought space exploration was that important. But after hearing about her, I started to see space like this huge, uncharted adventure, where women are breaking barriers and changing the future! She made me think that exploring space is like opening a treasure chest of knowledge that could help everyone, no matter where we come from.
The women in the lesson, especially those who fought to be astronauts, felt like real-life superheroes! I couldn’t help but feel super inspired. They were like rockets shooting to the stars, defying gravity and breaking through obstacles. Their courage made me want to do something brave too. They proved that no matter what, women can do anything – even go to the stars and beyond!
Do you guys agree that space exploration can change the way we look at gender equality? What do you think is the most urgent inequality to fix right now?
The lesson on women's empowerment was really insightful. It's crazy how much we still have to learn. We talked about how women hold only 14% of leadership positions in India's private sector, the pay gap is ridiculous. Women earn 20-30% less than men for doing the same job. I was like, what's going on?
We discussed women are always expected to cook & clean with a lifetime taunt that she doesn't work. If they get a job they are mocked for not being caring towards their kids. Like what should they do? Men are perceived when they do things like dance or cook & our mocked even by their own family. Then how can we say all jobs offer equal opportunities to both sexes. Well women are responsible too. A women is a women's greatest enemy. Moms never teach their kids to break the chain & the cycle continues. Some moms even discriminate between girls & boys. Giving girls a clear message to do the same.
We read some quotes from Kamala Harris "The future of our economy depends on the participation of women." & Malala Yousafzai "We cannot succeed when half of us are held back."
What really got to me was the dropout rate of girls in India. I mean it's not just about education it's about opportunity. These girls are not being forced to drop out of school because of poverty or lack of access to schools. But because men think their work is to only cook & clean not jobs. They're missing out on so much in life only because of a man's stereotype.
All of us came to a conclusion that we can't just sit around & wait for someone else to break the stereotype or our world will be in great danger.
