#31 Start the conversation!
23 April 2021Winners announced!
Thank you to everyone who entered last week’s competition. We were so impressed by the effort everyone put into their explanations and descriptions - so well done!
It was very difficult to choose just two winners but, after a lot of thinking, we decided our first winner is...
grateful_journalist of Lake Bank Pioneer Preparatory, who gave us a whistle-stop tour of their country, Tunisia. They described the sights, the climate and even some history!
And our second winner is...
upbeat_musician of Green Hill Academy Kibuli, who took a different approach by giving us a short but beautiful description of the snow-covered mountain tops in Uganda.
Fantastic work!
The next Issue is a very special one... it's our Global Conversation, where students from around the world will be hopping on the Hub to share what they think.
So let's get started! Our first competition gives you a chance to share something about where you're from.
Your challenge this week is to tell us where you are from and say one thing that you wish other people knew about your country.
For example, what it's like to live there, a famous landmark or a tradition.
Don't forget to explain why you think it's good for people to know!
Need some help? Use this sentence starter:
I live in (insert your country here). I wish people knew that in this country... (insert what you wish people knew here). This is a good thing for people to know because... (insert a reason here).
We will award stars for the posts we feel have plenty of details and written in developed sentences and give an original perspective on their country (so doesn't copy what everyone else has said!)
The deadline for entries is Friday April 23rd at midday. PLEASE ENTER ONLY ONCE and make sure your work is your own. Good luck!

i live in the UK and in the uk there is alot of littering sadly
I am happy to hear more about you , I hope to visit it
Hello , I'm ambitious-argument. Offen, thing that help to reduce climate change end up costing poorer people the most . For example if we make fuel more expensive, poor people miss out as rich people can afford the higher price but poor people can't is there a different way to do things
It would have been better if there was another thing to use other than fuel, making it expensive so that only the rich can afford it won’t make anything different
What do you mean like is it that they are increasing the price
They could use gas.it's expensive
Hello I'm from Nigeria. I think it is better for the cost of fuel to be reduced, so that everyone can be able to purchase it.
Or donate it to the poor in my view Because they don't find a lot of money to buy it
I think so.
If the fuel is distributed to the poor people for a year or two ,tell me who will pay for it?Doing that will not help 👎but rather worsen the current economic issues
Hello I'm inventive tomato.I am from Nigeria also, I think that the cost of fuel is high for example the poor don't have that money for fuel.
Yes,I think that the government should either reduce it or live it at the normal price
There are solutions to all problems but for them to be implemented,is a decision for our leaders to make .
I live in Palestine the land of holly places ... I love it because people here are friendly and kind , We have close community that people can help each other. In Palestine you can see amazing old markets and tradditional shops you can buy gifts to your friends . Jerusalem is the capital city where its name is Holly Land
I hope everyone can come and see all these places
I am also from Palestine and I love my country like you and I am happy to know more about you
Can I know more, I really want to visit
I'm from Palestine. The thing that I would like people to know about my country is that it produces the best types of olive oil. that
That nice I like olive oil.
Yes, you can and we are honored to you in my homeland. Palestine is distinguished by its distinguished geographical location because it is a link between the three continents of Asia, Africa, and Europe, where the cultivation of citrus fruits such as oranges and lemons is abundant. It was a reception station for Christian visitors and pilgrims heading to Jerusalem
That's nice
Thank you
Welcome to my son. I agree with you. Palestine is very beautiful, and I love the land for me because it is a holy and blessed land, and it contains archaeological sites such as Al-Aqsa Mosque.
I am jovial ladder from Nigeria and I will love to visit your place
wow, I think it has a mazing litrature like drama and novel
sorry but it is okay you were truthful unlike some other people who would have lied just know that ambitious_seahorse is proud of you.
It is a problem that most countries suffer from and to overcome it, the government must set strict laws
Interesting point nice_desert. What laws do you think governments need to set?
They have to put up surveillance cameras in public places and everyone who throws garbage must pay a fine
I know it's a tough decision, but this is the most appropriate solution for people to commit.
Yes,I think nice_desert's made a point
That's right
The government must set strict law that should be pass through the constitution.so that every individuals in the country must follow
What strict laws are you talking about? I think that the government in all countries is bad, no matter how bad they are, the country without strict laws is a failed country, and I say it is better to develop the cultural and intellectual community than it is for the country to be developed without laws. This is how I think it is from my point of view.
Your point is correct
But why do we have to preserve the environment just for the sake of the laws that the state puts in place?
In my opinion, each of us expresses our morals by preserving public spaces, and thus it reflects a good image of ourselves and also contributes to a good image of others about our country.
Therefore, we have to take the initiative and change this bad habit with awareness campaigns, but awareness campaigns are not sufficient for the state have to put in place a strict law that is to pay fines and also imprisonment if fines accumulate.
You might see this as a brutal choice, but no one will learn if they are tolerated
You have a great point.
I agree, we are facing different types of problems these days and the government really need to do something about it by protective
I live in my town, Palestine, Palestine, a very old city, and it has beautiful and holy places. I love it very much, and Jerusalem is the eternal capital of Palestine

I’m not really sure that what you are talking about is part of the topic
On the contrary, this is a large part of the topic, my beautiful country, my country, I love it more than my mother, my compassionate country, my country is beautiful. I love it more than my tender mother. Palestinian and I will not regret I will stay in Palestine until the last drop of blood from my body
Why did you say so
England) is the largest country in the United Kingdom and it shares land borders with Scotland in the north, Wales in the west, the Celtic Sea in the northwest and the North Sea in the east, and the English Channel separates it from the European continent to the south. Mainland England consists of the central and southern parts of the island of Great Britain in the North Atlantic Ocean, and also includes more than 100 small islands, such as the Isles of Scilly.
Hello, I am familiar with the history of England, and I sincerely love Queen Elizabeth. I really hope to visit her one day, and I hope you tell us more about it.
Yes I love England too I hope to visit
Wow I would like to visite there
I hope I also know the traditions of England because we are Palestinian and we do not celebrate birthdays because we are Muslims and Islam is forbidden, and I do not believe in Christmas because we Muslims have two holidays. The first feast is called Eid al-fistr. We distribute the money to each other and wear new clothes, and in the morning we eat a type of fish called herring, and we pray the Eid prayer. As for the secondfeast, Eid al-Adha, we wake up in the morning and pray the Eid prayer. Then we slaughter the calf that we shared with my uncles, and then we had a collective iftar with our uncles and cousins Then we distribute the meat to the poor and needy.
I have a question, would you please answer it? As far as you know, do you think it is best for tourists to come only at Christmas? In my opinion, I would prefer to come in the spring or summer
I prefer winter in a way
Thats nice
I would prefer spring
Even in Nigeria we celebrate Christmas also
I am from England and I wish that people know hard it is for me to live here well you see I have moved a lot but mostly I like where I am because I have lots of family and friends by my side.I know that people around the world have bad times but where I am it’s not that good either I support a lot of people but mostly my mom. When I first moved here in England I loved it it’s really fun and I wish people knew how fun it is because u meet so many people.
Wow!Tell us more about you country
Some people say we are responsible for keeping the planet safe for furture preparations.should we all make a sacrifice now for our grandchildren?
Maybe
I am from England and I wish that people know that we went in lockdown for half a year [nearly] so I couldn't see my friends or my family but now I'm back in school I have all my friends be side me.
From proactive_newspaper.
wow that's nice i will like you to tell me more about england cause i don't know much
We also did not see my family, not even my friends, because of Covid 19
i want to say that our country(England) is doing well with vaccinations and we have the best tea ever made and we have David Attenborough
This is great. I hope someday to travel to England because I love tea too ....
i think that people should were masks because if people dont were masks then that is bad for the enviroment but if people were masks then that is good for the enviroment and also people are amd and sad becuse they cant travel and some people are littering which is bad for the enviroment also if people litter in the ocean and that can infect the wildlife and some people are getting the covid-19 vaccine
Are you sure masks help the environment, fair_dog?
I think the manufacturing of masks should be stopped for they are just polluting the environment and besides some people have health issues so they find it so hard to put on the masks. I think there should come another alternative for the masks and this should probably be of less negative effects to the society.Thank you
There are factories in the world that manufacture masks to purify the air, so there is no problem
From my point of view, I agree, my friend
Can you say why?
I think that masks are not good for the environment at all. Rather, they pollute the water and air, and we are trying to get rid of them, not bring more of them, but try to convince me. How did you think that they are good for the environment? You sure have a convincing answer.
Moreover it can cause sickness and it is definitely not good for our health
I live in the UK,in the UK a lot of people litter because not a lot of people in the uk are educated about the consequences of littering that is why I think a lot of people litter.I think that all people in the uk should be educated on this knowledge because everyone is able to make a change in this disaster going around the world and I am shore if everyone did know this they would make a change but unfortunately that isn't the case.I think all people in the world should be educated about littering because it causes bad changes to the world
I encourage you to accept this opinion. This change will not come from a vacuum, but rather through our efforts and our work to protect the environment
Indeed, litter has become a major cause of environmental pollution and the spread of harmful insects that transmit diseases such as flies and mosquitoes.
I will present some measures that help us protect the environment from pollution by reducing garbage:
1. Encourage people to recycle like plastic
2. Pushing people not to waste food, as the United Nations report revealed that people from around the world waste nearly one billion tons of food annually
3. Use of materials associated with the environment
4. Manufacture of manure from food waste
All of this reduces the amount of garbage and environmental pollution
In fact, I agree with you, my family knows this well, as we recycle food waste into compost, and iron cans recycle them into decorative vases and make beautiful things from them, but also in my country we suffer from pollution despite all our efforts, especially sea pollution, because of the water. Sewage, I really hope that people will be interested in raising awareness of the pollution problem that not only affects us as human beings but also all other creatures.
Yes , I agree with you, because garbage has negative effects to humans and society .
Garbage should not be thrown a way ✋👌
hi i'm from birchwood and what i would tell people about is that there is loads of shops and loads of friends round there. what else i would want to tell people about is that some are bullies and some arnt. from marvellous volcano
Hi, it's skillful_conclusion,
I live in the United Kingdom and it's a lovely place to be in. I wish people knew that in this country, is one of the most wonderful places and also I wish people knew that the UK in hundreds of years ago the whole of United kingdom was took over by the Anglo-Saxon. When the Anglo-Saxons were around in 410AD the UK was seven kingdoms. Also the romans were also here to protect us. Are country had an exciting but worrying time, didn't it? This is a good thing for people to know because they now know a bit about the past and what happened in 410AD when the Romans left and when the Anglo-Saxons came and took over the Romans.
Thank You for reading
skillful_conclusion
Thanks for sharing us this information. 😍❤
Thanks for this information. I hope to visit the United Kingdom
When I get the opportunity, I visit you and you come to visit us in Palestine, where there are many beautiful and archaeological places such as Al-Aqsa Mosque.
I live in Europe I really wish that people knew that lakes and rivers are clearing up because of people not being able to go out and beaches have less litter. They have less litter because we have been in uk in lockdown. Lockdown has really helped the environment with the gas and electric, the oceans and litter. This may havent been to good for us but it has been great for the world. The skys have been so blue because people havent been able to travel.
Over all this has been great for the world and has really helped this could be a chance for us to keep the uk and the world like this.
Stay safe have a great day :)
Which country do you live in, assured_elephant?
I live in Palestine and I love our culture, our food, our strategic location, the people, and everything in it is beautiful
I live in Palestine, and Palestine is considered one of the most important Islamic and sacred countries throughout the ages, as it is the beating and struggling heart of the Arab nation on this land that enjoys a great and great position on which the world in general resides. Lives. The Arab countries agree in particular, because their religious, tourist, cultural and historical status is missing in many of the major countries
Wow! That is awesome
i live in England which is well known for the stone hendge which is a famouse monument that was biult a long time ago. Are ruler/queen is Queen Elizabeth and sadly her beloved 99 year old husband has passed away his name was prince philips and he died in his home with the royal family. The queen is now turning 95 in a couple of months. Also there is alot of littering in England and also across the entire globe we could stop this by stop littering and going on litter picking. You can also visit many museams and also the great palace where is home of the royal family

Hi its engaging_planet here,
I live in Europe,United Kingdom i wish more people knew that.Tea is by far the most famous drink among Brits. But i think alot of people already knew that so here is something else. The first postage stamp was created in the U.K. It was designed in May 1840, and it featured Queen Victoria. That is very interesting but here is something mind blowing. It is estimated that they drink 165 million cups of tea every day.Can you believe that!
thanks for your time!have a great day!and most of all...
Stay safe!
Wow
165 million cups a day, that's amazing
