I think, this is a very important subject to confront in class because it is a topic which everybody faces daily. It isn’t just a thing you can brush off and forget about because we face sexism and gender inequality every single day. Whether it appears in small comments from fellow students or jokes from friends, girls and boys face discrimination everywhere they go. From young ages, we are taught how to act, what to were, what and how to think. Children are extremely vulnerable to these subjects because if grown ups tell them to believe something, they would. They can be influenced by their friends, families , schools, religions and many other areas in life. For there to be female rolemodels for young girls to look up to, is extremely important. It gives them strength and confidence but most of all it impowers and shows them that no one is allowed to belittle or strip them of their value in society. I think younger children should be given the opportunity to learn all about gender equality early on in their lives already, so that they can grow up with proper understanding of the subject and help to fight against the struggles of sexism and gender inequality. I would love to hear what you think about these subjects. Do you think children should be confronted with the subject early on? What are your thoughts?
Thank you.
I agree with you patient tree as sexism is everywhere in a person's life from a negligible thing to the biggest. Most in students Life and it happens in small things like comments on gender which are taken as jokes but hurts the sentiment of the person a lot
I am in total agreement with the points raised in your comment. I would especially like to focus on what you said about gender stereotypes casually appearing during everyday discussions between friends, classmates, or colleagues, as I find it to be particularly realistic and valid, and yet completely ignored at times. To my mind this type of discrimination, which usually doesnt even mean badly, consists one of the most difficult to be dealt with, as many people would hardly argue that it is a sort of discrimination at all. Its a form of inequality and stereotype that has so deeply infiltrated the traditions of our civilisation, that has reached an everyday level. Jokes about gossiping, for instance, which is supposed to be mostly a female negative habit and, for example, the so ufairly common, stereotypical caricature of the nosy woman invading everyone's personal and private life (the phrase of "great gossiper" in my language is mostly feminine and its masculine alternative is hardly ever used). Therefore, even if not meant with viciousness or inetent to offend, I believe that such approaches to gender stereotypes, that actually take them for granted, had better be discouraged and gradually completely abolished.
I agree with you because it’s really important to talk about gender equality from a young age. When we’re little, our brains are like sponges, soaking up everything around us. If kids learn early on that boys and girls are equal, they grow up with the idea that everyone deserves to be treated fairly, no matter if they’re a boy or a girl. For example, when girls see women in powerful jobs like doctors, scientists, or astronauts, it helps them believe they can do those things too. And when boys see men doing things that girls are usually told to do, like being teachers or caregivers, they learn that anyone can do anything, no matter their gender!
In places like Sweden, they teach kids about gender equality from a very young age, and it has helped a lot in making sure everyone is treated fairly. It shows that if kids learn about fairness early, they grow up with better values and are more respectful to each other. It also helps stop discrimination because they know it’s wrong. When kids see that everyone is equal, they understand that it’s okay for girls to play with trucks or boys to play with dolls. It’s important to let kids express themselves however they want without telling them what they should or shouldn’t like based on their gender.
It’s also really important for girls to have female role models. It’s important that both boys and girls know that no one should be limited by their gender. Starting the conversation about gender equality early helps everyone grow up with respect for others. It also helps make the world a fairer place.
I agree children should be confronted with the subject early on.
I think there should be a Hub discussion post about how space missions can help fight gender inequality because space exploration has always been a male-dominated field, and we’re missing out on so many different perspectives. Women like Valentina Tereshkova, who was the first woman in space, and Sally Ride, the first American woman in space, have shown that women can contribute just as much to space exploration as men. However, despite their achievements, we still see fewer women in these roles. This isn't just about having women on rockets; it's about breaking down the idea that space and science are "for men only." According to NASA, there are fewer women than men working in STEM fields, and this imbalance is even worse when it comes to leadership positions. As more women join space missions, like the Artemis program aiming to land the first woman on the Moon, we could inspire a whole generation to think differently about gender roles and their potential. By supporting women in space, we create role models and show young girls everywhere that they can aim for the stars—literally! Making this a bigger discussion could help us think of ways to encourage and support more girls in science, technology, engineering, and math, not just in space but everywhere. Space is the ultimate way to prove that anyone, no matter their gender, can achieve greatness.
I agree you that women are dominated by the males in the space sector even after achieving a lot.
For instance Sunita Williams,an amarican astronaut, went in the outer space for some research for the NASA.
I strongly agree on this fact and feel the same that more encouraging space missions for women and exposure will surely help in overcoming these challenges including discrimination.Increased space missions will lead to change in societies mindsets about male dominated space industry and it will be common for the upcoming generation to treat male and female equally. Also when more opportunities and encouragement will be given,The stereotypes will begin to fade away gradually. The women should also be given high post roles like leading roles in big missions which will help promote women's equality in space industry and more women will be motivated to join STEM
I also feel that even after employing women in space sector,It won't change the stereotypes and mindset of people as it has been assumed by people that women can't do certain jobs and need not participate in the same. But these things will change gradually with group efforts when people start to accept the facts for which government too can give encouragement to women employees in space sector.
Also as of now,Space suits had been designed to fit "men" specifically and it didn't fit right on women. Gradual changes have started taking place in these small but impactful things as well and I feel that now everyone should adapt and support women to pursue their careers in STEM sectors like space astronomy, astronaut,Space science etc.
To sum up I feel that everyone's group efforts will play a major role in providing women with more opportunities
I think there should be a Hub discussion post about how women are pushed in more "feminine careers" like cooking, being a nurse or like a waitress instead of exploring different careers that is male-dominated like architecture. Women should be allowed to explore all sorts of fields but just to show that gender inequality has been here forever in the past women were seen less in science and mathematics. The US has always had gender problems that I think really needs to be solved. To end it all women should also begin exploring STEM fields.
I agree because if women out there in the world see that the actually have people standing behind them they will be proud of themselves and their jobs.
I agree this since, opening the ancient books demonstrate the gender inequality in a very straight manner. This showcases that since the very beginning gender inequality exists. Moreover, they are seen to be not able to do strong chores such as a business or freelancing.
The question that ingruiges me most is: that why is space exploration is still male dominent? Even today, most space missions are full of male astronauts with only few women onboard. But what if we send an all female crew for a space mission- maybe for mars exploration? I believe that it this act would be revolutionary and break decades of stereotype in the space industry. This would motivate young girls to study space science. NASA, ISRO or any other space exploration organization in the world has never done an all female mission. Do you think those women will act as role models and be a powerful statement of gender equality? Would this change how we see women in this male dominent industry? What's your take on this?
I think there should be a hub discussion post about how the future could be affected if we started gender equality now, because understanding the potential effects on the future could encourage action and raise awareness. The problem is that some people, especially men, might not fully understand the importance of gender equality .However, if we real took time to explore the long-term effects, we would realize that achieving equality would create a world with more creativity, fairness and happiness for everyone. By ensuring equal opportunities for all genders, we would unlock untapped potential and foster a society where everyone can thrive. If we truly want to see improvements in our world, it is essential to understand how gender equality can bring about those positive changes.
Yes, I strongly agree to your ideas. I really think discussing about "what changes can be seen in the future if we start to promote gender equality now" can be a great discussion to hash out! Talking about how our actions today might affect the future will make us realise both good and bad. Like if gender inequality turns out to be a long lasting problem, we'd just end up realising that it wasn't a good idea; by putting gender barriers to someone's rights, opportunities and dreams would be really unjust and disappointing. Or if, gender inequality ends, we'd be able to see many positive changes and create a better world with more creativity, happiness and fairness as you mentioned.
So yes, discussing how gender inequality can be a real progress for our orthodox society and understanding how giving every individual equal opportunities can be really beneficial for our near future!
I think there should be a Hub discussion post about how historical narratives of space exploration have overlooked women's contributions and what systemic changes could ensure equitable recognition and opportunities women in space science today because this topic talks about issues in both the past and the present, drawing more attention on WHY women such as Katherine Johnson, Mary Jackson and others were sidelined as "Hidden Figures". This could spark debates about women-led projects, or policy reforms in space agencies.
I think there should be a Hub discussion post about how women in these fields struggle with possible stereotypes. Say a woman becomes a mechanic, and her coworkers assume she doesn't know anything about cars. I think this would be a good discussion because students may have different ideas or maybe similar experiences to share out and see other student's views about this.
I think there should be a Hub discussion post about... Women and the Media: more good or bad... because...
The media has the power to increase gender inequality or equality.
It can cause inequality by increasing stereotypes, bias statements or thoughts, say jokes that are stereotyped and discourages women to push for certain positions.
It can cause equality by helping women campaign for positions, spread information faster and it raises awareness about this things and this campaigns.
We also need women in the media to help spread the news. As in many countries 1 in 3 reporters are men.
The media can help us give equality to women as it can also help inequality to women.
"We are all connected; To each other, biologically. To the earth, chemically. To the rest of the universe atomically." - Neil deGrasse Tyson.
I think there should be Hub discussion post about gender inequality in the space industry because, just as we are all connected to the universe, the future of space exploration should include everyone. By Woman make up only around 20% of the space workforce, and this lack of diversity can limit the ideas we bring to space. Space should be a place for all people, no matter their gender. A discussion on this topic could help everyone raise awareness and inspire change, making space exploration truly for everyone.
I think one of the most important topics that should be discussed here is family disintegration and its impact on children and the injustice that women and mothers are exposed to in general, not just in the field of work. In Egypt, the number of divorce cases has increased and according to statistics, there is a divorce case every 117 seconds and there are about 265,834 divorce cases in the courts. In Egypt, there are many fathers who refrain from paying their children's educational, daily and life expenses after separation, and the mother is forced to work to spend on the children or file a case for alimony against the father, and often the court rules in her favor with very little alimony that is not enough to live on, so the mother resorts to transferring the children to schools with lower costs so that she can pay the school expenses, which negatively affects the children. There are many mothers who are in prison because they took loans from banks to be able to spend on their children and were unable to repay them, so they were imprisoned, which threatens the future of their children or they become street children. Do you think that the solutions available in your country are sufficient to solve this, or do we need to reconsider other ways to provide solutions that help mothers and children?
I think there should be a Hub discussion post about the difficulty the lives of youth are in rural countries, because of gender inequality that spreads in rural countries and some countryside areas. These places can severely differentiate between girls and boys, which is a deeply concerning problem that we should focus on. People who live in these countries follow ancient costumes and traditions, that is why children's lifestyles there are not equal, as they treat males better than females. This treatment could severely effect women rights, but most people who live in these areas don't consider this as discrimination against women, especially girls. This preference parents have for their boys can prevent young girls from seizing their own rights... just like their brothers. These injustice rules girls experience can include:
1. Lack of education
2. Early marriage
3. Inequal treatment
4. Forbid women from working
These were some examples of challenges girls face that prevent them from having a good educational foundation, a good treatment... and a good life. We can see how tragic gender inequality is through these youth's lives that are extremely hard. As a girl myself, I hope no girl has to experience these scenarios anywhere else in the world, so that is why we should try to help stop the injustice occurring against girls in rural areas. I think this hub post should be recognized as it indicates that this problem needs to expand among us to spread more awareness of what is happening in far countries.
Hi
In my country, Egypt, and throughout the ages, Women suffer from many problems and face many challenges.
For example:
* Education: Historically, women didn't get the same educational opportunities as men. It was way more limited for them.
*Work: Women still struggle to get equal jobs to men, and often get paid less for the same work. It's a real thing.
*Politics: Women haven't always had a say in politics. They only got the right to vote and for office relatively recently in the mid 20th century.
* Domestic Violence: Sadly, many women experience physical and emotional abuse from their husbands or family members.
* Sexual Harassment: Women deal with sexual harassment in public places and on public transport way too often.
*Female Genital Mutilation : this is a horrible inhumane practice that violates women's rights, and other stuff faced by women like early marriage, discriminatory laws, and marginalization and exclusion.
Even though I think Egyptian women have made huge progress in areas like education, work and politics. But, there's still a long way to go to achieve full equality and empower women in every aspect of life.
Here we must ask ourselves whether the male world will allow women to achieve complete equality with it, even though they are making greater efforts to reach their goals. I hope and am confident that this will be achieved one day.
I there should be a Hub discussion post about how to stop me for telling women that that you can't work this because you are week. What do I mean ?? I meet that we are all like each other and we can't say that men are better than women because it is unfair to say that this job or whatever only allowed for men this thing is really bad women because they feel that they are not strong enough and this is not to true .To conclude we don't want women to feel that they are week so this is why we want stop men for doing this.
I think there should be a Hub discussion post about the role of media in shaping perceptions of who belongs in the space industry because representation can inspire the next generation of astronauts, engineers and scientists. Highlighting diverse role models can break stereotypes and encourage more inclusive opportunities.
A great discussion question could be: How does media representation of astronauts and space explorers influence who pursues careers in the space industry?
I think there should be a Hub discussion post about, how more women can get to space for us to see the kind of impact they will make, and as we can see in the the main topic, (One small step for women, one giant leap for humankind), so we should encourage women to keep taking small steps and to lead humankind to taking giant leaps. And this is because, we need more women to take big steps, both for themselves and for humankind.
Hello !
There are 2 questions came to my mind is -
1. "Do you think becoming a mother makes a women less skillful ? If yes, why? If no, then what are the reasons mothers are still discriminated in workplaces?"
I chose this question as I think it will enable us to think about the possible reasons mother's are discriminated. Which can be prejudice, concern for mothers, something else etc. This will also allow students to express how they feel about discrimination of mothers. And if it is right.
2. "why are women left behind in this space race and what we can do to prevent it?"
This question helps us in answering other short answers like- Are women not capable enough? Or are women not taking an initiative? By answering these simple questions we will have a better understanding on the topic why is space industry still dominated by men? To prevent it we can take simple initiatives like- making a women in charge of a space mission or making an all women mission for space journey and exploration.
At last I would like to say that- Our world is modernising but is our thinking?
Because as per me the barrier between women and almost everything is the thinking of people so if we just take an initiative and deeply understand a woman's true potential or skills and give them equal opportunities women might get their place in space.
THANK YOU !
I think there should be a hub discussion on the challenges people might face when trying to achieve gender equality. Some of the challenges that I think they might face are:
1. Violence: people might react because they might not want things to change
2. Discrimination: in work places, women might be treated unfairly because they are standing up for is right and people do this to discourage them and get that mentality out of their head.
There are lots more challenges but if we tackle them right now, it will be easier to change their minds. I think this topic will allow students to share their opinions on how to tackle gender inequality and in that case we will work together to achieve equality.
These are certainly challenges which can arise, do you have any specific topic you would like to discuss?
Yes. Discrimination mainly. I actually wanted to suggest stereotypes it it already exist in the hub so I decided to tackle the next problem which is discrimination. The reason I am doing it in this order, is because I believe that if we are able to tackle the smallest problem, we will keep moving step by step until we tackle the whole thing. When we are able to create a stereotype free world, it will be easier to stop discrimination.
Some of the solutions to discrimination are:
1. Parental leave for both genders: this will show that no one is left behind.
2. Implement equal pay polices: even when women are pregnant and this will put an end to women penalty.
So know, students can also share their solutions to discrimination.
I think that being an astronaut is a very difficult challenge for anyone, and it would be even harder for a woman. For some people, families, cities, and even countries, the idea of a woman becoming an astronaut might seem impossible! But for me, I believe that nothing is impossible. If anyone, not just a woman, works hard, he or she will definitely deserve anything they want (not just in astronomy).
Thanks for reading!
I think on the Hub we should discuss recent issues experienced in Taiwan due to subsea internet cable cuts suspected by authorities to be from mainland Chinese intervention later for the government to blame it on natural deterioration. This event highlights not only how little trust nations' governments have for each other but also how dependent we are on networks that are so vulnerable to such difficulties and can be valuable for us to discuss.
In my personal opinion we should have a hub discussion about gender equality in the 21st century, people might be thinking that gender equality has decreased which it has , however gender equality still exists everywhere especially in young people and children and if children use sexist and gender inequality linked phrases this could take our future people back to the laws there was before the 1920's. Even if the suffragettes grabbed the hearts of the women around the world and gave women the right to vote ,although history might have been made women and especially black women they did not have their right to choose what jobs to be or they would not be allowed to take part in big projects and women would always be stereotyped and discriminated being called 'domestic' (working only inside of the house). Talking about discrimination to women nowadays, girls and women are still discriminated. It is very easy to tell a child to do something and when you tell them to do it the child will do it and do it and they will repeat it, this is because at the ages of 5,6 and 7 and sometimes 4 they have an adaptive mind which means their brain keeps growing and growing and adapting to the normal which could be stereotyping and discrimination (depending on how they are raised). Gender equality is a key subject to an adaptive mind for example: maths is a subject that they learn from nursery and from a young age you could start by counting but by year 7 the child uses Algebra this is because they have adapted to the subject. There should be a subject about problems in the world. They adapt.
I think the hub should discuss space exploration and women in the industry a lot more. Women have famously been unnoticed for their achievments because of their gender which has improved very little. One woman the hub has intruduced me to is Sally Ride who was the first female to go into space in 1983 but even during such a highlight in history she was pushed aside. Her questions compared to her companions belittled her by asking about her make up and if she would cry at launch instead of what she did to do such a feat and help inspire young women. The hub could also speak about how behind we are in the advances in space suits due to its male only design from these male scientists. Before finally speacking of the changes we can make.
There are many role models that have showed people that women can do things just as good as men. Who are some role models that you look up to that concerns this topic.
I believe that it will be ideal if this question was added and discussed in the hub discussions about what are the risks that will be faced by the society when equality is implemented in the whole world in the future?
A: Replacement of women with men consequently some men can lose their jobs.
B: Reduction in the men's salary so this can lead to economic problems.
C: This may increase the pressure that the women carry out with the house responsibilities.
D: Educating and training women is something extremely expensive for the governments.
Choose one of these ideas and discuss your opinions and point of views about what you have chosen.
Do not forget also to give facts with examples.
I have a really common but ignored question. “ When it comes to responsibility of child , the women are incharge of it but if it’s about pride the father says , this is my child” . This also really affects the women’s whole life because the devote their whole life and even leave their job for their children but when it comes to credit of child efforts the father always has it. Imagine you are are doing a group project and you made the structure of your model and devoted yourself completely into it leaving everything but your friend tells that they have made it . Similarly, women feel bad plus unequal opportunities plus social pressure plus child’s responsibility burden up women so much that they forget to live freely. Because of taking the responsibility of child the women donot come up much with their skills and hence are discriminated and treated unequally without knowing the reality. This is an advantage for others as competition is less and as young women are adapted to this kind of living they mould themselves weak and consider themselves inferior to men . This is the actual reason of gender inequality in this world .
Hello, 👋
I think that there must be a hub discussion post that is mostly talking about space planting. Space planting? of course, you are asking what is this, now so let me tell you more about that. First, do you know what is the main problem that scientists face while exploring the space? Actually, the answer is oxygen. I made a research and I knew that scientists decided to conduct an experiment. In this experiment, they got a person and put him in a room that doesn't have just 1% of oxygen but they put plants with him. After one week, this person came out of the room with a very good health. What they understood from this experiment is that " oxygen can be replaced by plants". At the end, they decided to try to plant the space to get enough oxygen because as I told you above, oxygen is most of the time is not enough while exploring the space.
To sum up, I think this topic is very important to be discussed because it is related to our planet and the space.
Thanks🌼
Interesting idea. Thanks for suggesting!
After the lesson about gender equality, I wondered how different gender equality is in different parts of the world. I think that we should have a hub discussion about gender equality and how it affects the whole world. I think this is because it would be beneficial to how different it is around the world. In some countries like Iran there are restrictions for women, for example they can go outside without covering their face. It would be helpful for people to know this so they can be educated in things like this, they would know the problems in other countries and possibly want to help.
I agree with you I do wonder how gender inequality is in different parts of the world. Good Points!
Thank you for agreeing with me, I think that it is great that people want to know about problems in different parts of the world!
I think there should be a Hub discussion post about the long-term effects of gender diversity on space exploration. On the Hub, we've talked a lot about how to improve equality and how it helps people stand out. But a topic I haven't seen discovered on the Hub is even if we make space an equal "space" for everyone, what good will it bring? Aside from helping individuals get opportunities, how will it positively affect the space industry? Should space agencies prioritize gender equality over experience? It's a genuine question, if a black woman wants to go to space, she is knowledgeable and fits the criteria but a white man knows more than her, who do you accept? Should equality be more important experience/knowledge? I think this would be very interesting to cover.
I think there should be a discussion on why women are the ones who have to do the unpaid emotional labor. This kind of labor is a dark reality in industries like consulting, amusement parks, and nursing. Women are specifically recruited for jobs where they must put their emotional well-being behind a visible or invisible cover and act as if they enjoy the job. The stereotypical thinking that women are emotionally connectable is cruel. This is not only limited to jobs but also their domestic environments, where they must fight their way through extreme jobs and family arguments, just to put a fake smile on their faces and sing a lullaby. This issue has no easy solutions because people take on extreme jobs for serious reasons that cannot be solved instantly. But the true motive behind the question is why only women have to go through this pain. The next time you see a person in costume, remember that the person behind the costume might be shedding tears.
An interesting comment. Are the points you make opinions or facts? If they are facts, are you able to support them with any evidence?
I would like to talk about equality in space. As space exploration advances, more countries and private companies are launching satellites, rovers, and planning future colonies on the Moon, Mars, and Venus. But this raises an important question: should space belong to everyone, or should only certain countries and companies have the right to own parts of it? In 1967, the Outer Space Treaty was signed, stating that no country can claim ownership of space or planets. However, today, private companies like SpaceX have gained so much influence that they seem to have more power than some governments. This challenges the idea that space belongs to everyone. At the same time, there are valuable resources on asteroids, the Moon, and other planets. If only a few rich countries or companies are allowed to mine these resources, they could become too powerful, creating inequality both on Earth and in space. Should private companies have so much control over space? If space mining is allowed, how can we make sure resources are shared fairly and not just controlled by the richest nations? Should space belong to everyone equally, or will some countries and companies always have more control? These are some of my questions.
How can the space industry effectively address the underrepresentation of women in leadership positions, considering the historical and systemic biases that have contributed to this imbalance? Addressing the lack of women in leadership roles is key to achieving genuine gender equality in the space industry. It goes beyond simply increasing the number of women in entry-level positions. Without women in leadership, their perspectives and experiences remain marginalized, potentially hindering innovation and progress.
The focus on "historical and systemic biases" is important because simply implementing quotas or affirmative action programs may not be enough. Deep-seated biases, often unconscious, can continue to disadvantage women even in the presence of formal equality policies.
Understanding and addressing these historical and systemic issues require a nuanced approach that considers factors such as:
-implicit bias in hiring and promotion processes: how candidates are evaluated can unintentionally favor men.
-gendered expectations and stereotypes: the demanding nature of the space industry may be percieved as incompatible with the societal expectations placed on women.
By focusing on these systemic issues, the question encourages a deeper examination of the problem and promotes the development of comprehensive solutions that go beyond superficial fixes. It pushes for a discussion of structural change, not just individual actions.
I think there should be a Hub discussion post about if the same conditions are put for women and men in space, let me give you a deeper comprehensive meaning of what I want to discuss. As we all may know by now, gender equality has been lacking in many fields and industries, so some jobs offer men better privileges than women. Does that happen in the space industry too?
Some of the conditions that are put upon women to obtain a sustainable job are, for example:
Motherhood penalty, Mothers are likely to be offered less profit and promotions , because some companies believe that mothers aren't suitable for some jobs , so as a result, they give them lower salaries than men working in the same positions.
SO , concerning the space field, do women pay more than men? Are women space missions the same as men? Are women and men treated fairly in this field? Is the space field DIFFERENT than other fields? What do you think?
I think women are liable to do work😃👍.
Can you explain what you mean?
what I mean is that women has the right to do any job of their choice 😕.
I really think this will be a very big opportunity for women today because of most the jobs mostly done here are by men so i think that this will be big opportunity for women in our every day live for women.
I still think this is a chance for the women to become more useful in think this is becoming a better way to move women and young girls more into the world.
Space is amazing, but not many girls have gone to it. Most astronauts have been males. That isn't fair, for girls can become great astronauts, too! In the past, everyone thought girls couldn't go to space, but that isn't true. Women are strong, smart, and can do whatever a boy can!
In Egypt, not many girls work in studies of space. But Dr. Sara Sabry became an Egyptian female who traveled to space in 2022! She showed everyone that girls can make a big contribution in space. Nevertheless, not many girls work in space programs. There must be many girls studying engineering and science so girls can explore space, too!
To go to Mars one day, we must have males and females together. Space must include everyone. If everyone is treated fairly, then in the future, space will become even better!
I think there should be a Hub discussion post about the earthquakes in Santorini because every 1 hour they experience seven earthquakes and during this process many lives and properties are being loss, this is a bad thing happening because over 9,000 people have evacuated Santorini because of schools being closed up so children have to do online classes from home and it has also broken apart roads so people can't ride across them.
Ways we can stop this are:
1. Maybe the use of toxic waste is going on in Santorini and they can minimize the use of toxic waste to prevent earthquakes.
2. When we suspect cracks anywhere on roads we should create awareness to people in a high institution about it so that they can inform the government to tackle the situation
3. We should educate people on how to deal with earthquakes.
I would like to suggest a Hub discussion on the physiological Impact of Space travel on men and women.
To elaborate i suggest we diaxuss how space travel has effects on the physical mental and emotional health of space travellers. Is there any difference between male and female travellers?
If so what are the differences and if not then why has this industry been a male dominant one.
We can also include Artemis program by NASA as our referal guideline. The various contributions made by women in space exploration can also be included and highlighted.
This can help youth to learn about 3 topics:
1. Impact of space travel
2. Prevailing gender biases and their possible eradicatory solutions.
3.Contribution of women in space exploration with respect to history and present.
I hope that the future could soon be domestically more equal as women in the global society deserve more recognition as women can be physically and mentally more hard working than some male groups yet they are prejudged. Mothers earn 24% less of what a father earns which is certainly unfair as women usually have to care for the children more often and is surely a struggle for single parenting. Along with that statistic 26% of women work in STEM jobs and I am certain that more than 26% of the women's global population are capable of working such fantastic jobs that are required to be holding a diverse work force.
Hello Topical Talkers, in my personal opinion we should have a whole hub discussion about how women keep being stereotyped still nowadays and how that can effect their emotional intelligence. Stereotyping for women was a huge problem back then and that put a massive impact on women especially women who bears a child. When you are a child ages 1-7 that is a point were your brain is developing and its very naïve and they will believe anything anyone says like if no one has taught the child safeguarding they could go in a strangers van for sweets , since their brain is like a sponge that absorbs all the water (information) inside and keeps it in and they will remember it for most of their life and this is the same for stereotyping if a young boy at the age of 4 says to a girl that she can not play since girls are gross that is called stereotyping. Usually boys say girls belong in the kitchen and don't play sports like football for example, however a female footballer Sam Kerr is one of the best Chelsea players in the female football world and she appeared on the cover of FIFA 23 symbolising that women don't do cooking men like Nick D Giovanni and Gordon Ramsey cook for a living and make content on social media platforms. If children keep stereotyping our future generation could go back to the 60's and use the same laws. Also women are also described as being weak and will not be successful but people Yusra Mardini a Syrian swimmer escaped a warzone and was a refugee , she almost died on the boat in the ocean and then she became an Olympic swimmer and won her heat. Thank You
Personally I feel that its an important subject to focus on as we face this daily. Gender inequality can happen in the most subtle way but its still happens. For example a little joke from a friend can be seen as they are belittling a specific gender. If we focus on the younger generations we can prevent gender inequality for the future generations. If we focus on the older generations they have been around longer and therefore they may feel that their decision can't be changed and therefore will be ignorant toward the viewpoint being presented to them. At OSSMA we have a female dominated senior team and most are parents. This shows that in England we are trying to stop sexism and gender inequality. The lesson told us that women are less likely to be promoted in a job if they are a mother but this example shows otherwise. Another example of gender inequality is the pay gap. I have learnt about this and as a teacher women earn $2,200 less than men. That is £1,177.66. This shows that although we are trying to make a difference. That money could change a women's life. There is still a lot to work on. This is why I feel we should try and stop gender inequality .
I believe that women should be given more different jobs in todays society as in the past they have been mistreated by being given less job opportunities and the jobs they are employed for are physically hard working jobs that deserved to be high paying yet they are low paying, these jobs in certain are known as domestic jobs and these link into domestic abuse. However less of these jobs are being maintained by a more diverse work force and women are being employed into male stereotyped jobs which is a turning point in our society and global history.
Thank you for your comment, splending_melon. Would you mind explaining the point you made around 'domestic jobs linking into domestic violence'?
I think there should be a hub discussion on the topic, "What if women did not exist? Would the world be running then too?" I am suggesting this topic since many households are completely dependent on women for household chores and this may imbalance the lives of great people.
People who make campaign to show that girls are more useful to do society because they can use the sense of home caring and do some other things outside that will help the society. people think that there are jobs for men and jobs for women but that is not true their job for everybody .A man can be a nurse, a woman can be an astronaut, a man can be a cook ,a woman can be an engineer so there is no separate job for anybody. Both men and women can do the same work .
I think women are liable to do any job of their choice be it mechanic work, playing football, being an astronaut or doing any thing people think men can only do, now men are not higher than women neither women are higher than men we are all just the same, the only thing that differentiates us is our gender and nothing else even if men are stronger than women it still don't make any difference because the are some women around the world who won battles, wars and also fights wrestlers that even the greatest men can't fight, let us stop making women less welcome because without women men will be lonely, without women nobody will be in this world because women bear the responsibility of pain through child bearing, men, women are trying for us 😊😄😁👍👌 THANKS TOPICAL TALK
Hello topical talk,
I think we should do a discussion about sending satellites into space this can become a bad thing because it will pollute space and they can crash into space rockets and destroy them.
Gender inequality is a problem globally, but many people are not aware of it. Think of a plumber, would you imagine them to be female or male? Now think of a ballerina, would you imagine them to be female or male? This is an example of gender stereotypes. This means when you take a detail of a person (in this case there gender) and presume they like something they are probably not.
Are we all stereotypes technically? For example many people will immediately think male when someone says doctor and when someone says nurse they think female. In a program about a hospital the surgeons walked in on a woman and asked her when the doctor was coming when she was the doctor. As soon as they thought doctor they presumed male.
I believe women can do whatever they want to do!
I agree because whenever someone in my class talks about someone being a firefighter or worker with the police they instantly say fireman not firewoman and policeman not policewoman.
yours sincerely centered_squirrel.
I think, gender inequality is a hot topic, everyone's aware of it, but it still persists. Maybe we should find a common ground to discuss. So, this question piques my curiosity: how does gender inequality affect jobs and professions? Like we all have learnt that space exploration is more of "male supermacy" so why is that? do women lack something?
Also, why do we still stereotypically believe that certain jobs are assigned to different gender. I have observed that jobs related to mechanism, construction, technology, literacy, science and other jobs (basically the ones that require more of physical energy) barely have women. And jobs like nurses, teaching, housemaid, nanny, ballerina etc lack men.
Women are taught to do all the cooking work, why not become a chef. And men are considered to be very brave and sympathetic, why don't they become a murse. So, how does all this inequality based on gender affect different professions?
I thank you for the important subject because it has help me to know about in our countries gender inequality is practiced in day to day life and that will make our country be a bad place for people and some will see they don't have a purpose in this world so he commites murder.
I would love hub discussion on what women have achieved so far during the years I not only spec but politics, science, education, engineering and so on. I hope this topic would be taken into deep consideration.
I would like ask a question: What is the BIGGEST obstacle females face when entering the space industry...representation in movies and shows, lack of mentorship, or unconscious bias? Does the lack of representation of females in the space industry in famous movies and shows that young girls see cause them to become disinterested in this field? Does the lack of mentorship fail to provide females with enough insight to aim into this industry? Or does unconscious bias deny females the opportunity to be hired into this industry in the first place. I would like to take my stance, I believe unconscious bias is the BIGGEST obstacle females face when entering the space industry. Despite increasing awareness for the need of diversity in the space industry where everyone is needed to thrive, unconscious bias has continued to influence decisions made during hiring processes. Women are more often than not judged harsher than men, they are compared on a different pedestal just because they are a different gender. Recruiters often assume that women are not as committed to their careers as men or that they will eventually leave to focus on their families. These biases not only limit the opportunities females have at entering this industry but it also feeds into the culture where men are seen to be perfect at running this industry. Addressing unconscious bias is crucial for fostering an inclusive and diverse space industry.
We all know that “ charity begins from home”and we all blame men for gender inequality but according to me women are also equally responsible for it. In our households specially India the elder female say mother/ mother in law always has all the rights and for proving their son correct they forget that they also have a daughter/ daughter in law. They always build up their sons superior and fail to empower the women in their house. Many cases of domestic violence are still not investigated because of this reason. Women in house become blind when it comes to supporting other females in their house. Summing up each child or male, female should be given equal roles rights and responsibility and women and family should be their role model. So my question is “ Are women equally responsible for gender inequality?” “yes or no and why?” I think gender equality is both about supporting males and females so this is a question which breaks the monotony and puts our brains on work so I think this should be discussed on the hub.
Hi everyone, here in Germany there’s a law which forces very big companies to have a women’s quota in corporate leadership. In Germany since the passing of that law, a big discussion has been going on about it. On one side, it’s important to include more women in corporate leadership but on the other side I think that always the best job applicant should get the job and not a woman who is less qualified but is just female. But now, I’m interested in your opinions about women’s quotas. Do you think they are an important step to improve gender equality or do they only lead to men having worse chances on certain jobs?
Thank you!
My Idea for a discussion is whether women that work in jobs that are usually done by men should be paid more than the men working the Same Job, because they have been paid less for a Long time. This change in paiment will also change the amount of women working this Job because the Money makes working there more attractive. When working the Job, the women will be able to See how interesting the Job really is and more female workers will be interested in These, currently male led Jobs. After the numbers of female workers have increased, the paiment could then be changed to be the Same for men and Women.
At the Same time, things Like the Girls day and other Events that have the purpose of making more Young Women interested in working in usually male led Branches should Happen more often. In school, all of the Students, regardless of them being female or male should be taught the Same things.
This could change and improve the Numbers of female and male workers to be more equal.
Why do you think theres still a gender gap in space exploration and STEM? Because of opportunities, stereotypes or something else? I think we should have a discussion about how to make space missions and STEM careers more inclusive, especially since diversity can lead to better ideas and innovation for the future of space exploration. How can we have more of a female voice in space?
I would suggest the topic of a women quote that is mandatory for every company. This quote would help women find jobs more easily and would prevent gender inequality. The problem with such a quote would be that than there might be men not getting the job because the company isn’t allowed to employ them because the already have too much man and than they might have to employ a less suited woman. That would also destroy a faire competition one the labour market.
gender doesn't matter at all we are all different yes, some of us are white some are fair and some of us are dark, because we are white or fair doesn't mean that we should intimidate does who are dark same thing with women men should allow women to do any job they want to do THANKS😀.
Here's my suggestion in a humanized form, written in simple English:
I think it's really important to talk about how we can get more girls and women excited about space and science. Right now, there aren't enough women working in the space industry, and that's a problem. We need to figure out why this is happening and what we can do to change it. Maybe we can talk about how girls are sometimes discouraged from studying science and math, or how there aren't enough women role models in the space industry. Maybe we can share some ideas for programs or policies that could help get more women involved in space exploration. By talking about this, we can come up with some solutions and make sure that everyone has an equal chance to reach for the stars!
Gender equality is important because because some peoples expectations for girls and boys in are school the boys bathroom is green and the girls bathroom is pink which I find sexist because my favorite colour is green .
And then some people think that woman shouldn't have jobs and they should look after there children and the men should work.
But that's not right I think that jobs should matter on who gets paid more and even if one gets paid more they can still both have jobs.
yours sincerely centered_squirrel.
I think that we are making progress on gender inequality but we need to keep working towards the goal . I think that adults should talk with kids about this stuff because a lot of the times kids take this as a joke and really hurt each others feelings. Letting kids know that this is a real life problem that has to be dealt with is critical in today's life time. As kids grow up they like to joke around and it is completely fine the adults just have to learn to teach the kids that there are certain things that you can not joke around with because as the older kids start to joke around the younger kids will to and kid self esteem can be put in danger as these sexiest jokes go around. Also this is something that needs to be stopped because saying something like that can't just be fixed by saying sorry it is something that sticks with you and makes you feel miserable. This is also a problem that can be fixed by simply thinking before you speak most of the time kids will repeat what they hear there parent talk about reducing the biased language or saying that girls can only do certain things helps stop the spread of sexiest talk.In conclusion I think that gender inequality talk should be stopped before it becomes a daily thing.Do you think this is a problem ? How can you solve it?
I think gender inequality should be stopped. Things like Male led development, Motherhood penalty, Stereotypes, and Male dominated industries are examples of gender inequality. In 2023 the U.K. found out that women earn 24% less than men. But, most of male astronauts have one child so men have more children than women. If that doesn't stop people from hiring men then that should not stop people from hiring women. People that designed space suits made it just for boys to wear and not women. Women cannot have certain jobs just because people do not think they are capable of doing things men can do. But, an astronaut named Shawna Pandya has a company for girl astronauts to be able to let girls go to space. Katherine Johnson was a mathematician to help people go to space. Katherine Johnson was a girl and she is the reason most boys were able to go to space. In summary, it does not matter if a girl is not made for it or not. Girls are capable to do anything a boy can do.
I think there should be a Hub discussion post about if women should be in war or if they should go subverts again the "RULES" of being a women because people have lots of opinions about women going into war because as we all know women use to take care of the soldiers and men would go to war but now things have changed and my question is that should women still be able to go war or shall they take care of soldiers and my opinion is that women should be able to do both if you are good at fighting you should join the war if you are good at the medical profession then you should take care of injured soldiers.
I have mentioned Katherine Johnson in another comment, but i have more, along with questions. women like Katherine Johson, Ellen Ochoa, and Judith Resnik where all women who worked in nasa. In my opinion, i belive it mustve been hard for them, work ethically wise, and just in general wise. also due to them being female, they mightve been given less opportunity's. I want to know what other people think so i can give myself a retrospective, any thoughts?
I think the topic Is very educational. My question is if women and male popularity are that important, what will happen if women and men get treated equally? Most women get lower payment than men and get treated differently. So what if they get treated equally like men?
I suggest the topic the impact of Elon Musk influence to the world and the solutions to the problem it has caused.
I'd like to point out something that deals with our everyday lives. Most people don't realize how big gender inequality is and now it is practically something that happens every day to both genders. For example, almost all the time a boy sees a girl on the field playing football, he would mock her and that would become an issue. But have people ever thought about the boys who like pink and how they are mocked both by the boys and girls. Women inequality happens most frequently and worldwide and boys own are not regular but they are more harsh.
Think about it.
i was concernd about what was happining about the women that was getting less money because what if they have to provide for the family if there was no father figure. they would be broke.
Ans.
Hey @topical_talk ! What I personally think is that there should be a hub discussion on what would happen if the world will be dominated by women where men have to fight for equality and the roles would be reversed. I think that this would be an interesting topic for the students and they will come up with new ideas. This topic will mainly focus on male students where they will learn and get know how would their lives be if they were treated like if they were treated like women when they did not have equal rights. Not just that but they would also come up with new ideas on how they would raise their voices against this discrimination and change things. So I genuinely think that this would be a creative way to make students feel about the discrimination women faced in the past.
I think that this is a very important subject to learn about in class because it is a topic that everyone in the world faces. It is not just a thing that doesn’t matter to you or anyone else, it is sexism and gender inequality. It can have a big impact on your life if this happens to you because it can stop you from doing a lot of things: jobs, hobbies and other forms of entertainment. Girls and boys both face sexisms and gender inequality everywhere they go.
Sexism is prejudice. discrimination, or stereotypes based on a persons gender. It can be conscious or unconscious, and it can manifest in many ways.
Gender inequality is, first and foremost, a human right. It implies that women, men, boys and girls of all classes and races parade equals and have equal value. They enjoy equal access to resources, freedoms and opportunities to exercise control.
In conclusion to my paragraph I think they should both men, women, boys and girls should be treated the same as each other. Men and women should get paid the same if they work for the same company and they work that same hours.
What are your thoughts?
Thank you
A discussion post that I would love to see is, how are gender norms impacting you, society, and your country? I think that it's extremely important to recognize not only the problem but how it is impacting our world and our everyday lives. I would also love to see how these could be different for people in different areas, and how could gender norms be different in their lives from my own. Stereotypes are everywhere and I think it'd be a great discussion for everyone to take a moment to recognize not just the stereotype itself but how it is impacting them.
I think there should be a hub discussion post about how gender inequality in space exploration might change if space travel becomes more common for everyday people because it would be interesting to explore how a mix of different cultures and background in space could challenge existing gender inequalities. As space travel becomes more accessible , how would the presence of women and other marginalized groups impact the dynamics of space mission? Would this create and equal platform for everyone or would the challenges of space exploration continue? This discussion could explore how gender equality could be promoted on space missions , and how gender roles in space might differ from those of the Earth. This discussion could have an interesting debate and conversation about how gender norms can evolve as humanity beyond our planet.
I think that there should be a Hub post discussion on how females are dominated by men
I think there should be a Hub discussion post about few of some less discussed aspects of gender equality.
Some less discussed aspects of gender equality include: the impact of gender norms on men's mental health, the role of fathers in promoting gender equality, the need for systemic changes in the workplace to address unconscious bias, and the importance of tackling gender stereotypes in media and popular culture. These topics should particularly concerning how these issues can affect men and boys in unique ways, and how they might not be readily addressed in broader conversations about gender equality. There could also be a discussion post about " how to make men and boys realize that what women are going through because of gender inequality?"
All these could be wonderful topics to discuss upon.
I think there should be a hub discussion on the topic, “How women can affect the society and the functioning of society if treated and admired equally”. This is suggested by me since whatever women do they are not seen as equal to men in many places, discriminating and disrespecting the ideologies of women.
I think a good topic to discuss in this web is the misuse of social media, since it is a very actual one. Everyone has even without knowing all the dangers they can have. In this way, more than one person could be made aware of this and open their eyes if its neccesary.
Working from home has become common for many people. It gives flexibility and saves time by not having to commute. However, it can also make it harder to balance work and free time, stay focused, and talk to coworkers. How can companies and workers make working from home better? What should be done to make it work well in the future? As more people do it, we need to think about both the good parts and the challenges that come with
I think that the topic about enterprises obtains information through our phones and use this details with the objetive to offer us products with advertisement that we could want, it is a curious topic to discuss because many people think that is unfair and do not respect our privacity.
Hi everyone
I think that we should all discuss in Gender representation in modern space agencies, because we all don't know the percentage of women in leadership roles, technical position, and as astronaut in space agencies like NASA etc. we don't know the percentage of women leading in space agencies and we should also look at the challenges women face in reaching senior positions in space agencies.
Thanks.
in my country Nigeria but mostly in Nasarawa state women are not allowed to do any job and this is not good because over 72% of women in Nasarawa have businesses all over the state and because the always stay at home and they will loose their customers and their businesses will be shut down.
I think, the issue of gender inequality can be solved through the followings.
1. Public enlightment.
2. Undeveloped areas should be supported more and educated on the issue on inequality.
3. Resource, opportunities and rights should be distributed equally.
4. There should be ensure of equal access to education.
5. Women should empower at workplace.
6. There should be a protection of reproductive right.
7. There should be a strengthen of legal protections.
8. Provision of better medical care.
9. Achieve better political representation. And finally,
10. prioritize the most marginalized
i think there should be a hub discussion post about how we could stop gender inequality or at least be grateful for the women who actually have jobs or are taking care of their kids.Jobs like being a police, firefighter,or an astronaut could be hard to get if you are a woman.Because most people think jobs are for men only. For example people think that,
1.Blue is for boys only
2.Pink should be for girls and is used in things for girls like in clothes.
3.Dolls are only for girls
4.only boys can be an astronaut.
These are examples of how people see the world and are stereotypical about these things.Thank you for reading my comment.
-blithesome_economics
In my opinion, gender inequality is a MASSIVE problem, because what if someone for election says that they will strengthen the military but the girl does not want to Strengthen the military and wants a better economy?
And of course the people in the UK always want more money especially women
I think that there should be a hub discussion about this topic of gender equality. We should set our perspective towards this topic as viewing males and females equally and showing both genders with respect. This is a really crucial topic for all of us to understand and it should be taught to the future generations from their birth itself. When we are taught to treat everyone equally by birth,We show respect and equality towards both males and females but their are many stereotypes among people which can't be broken easily and would take a lot of constant and public effort. This should also be taught to children from a very young age as learning it early will make the feeling of equality rise in their minds from the very beginning.
Individuals are discriminated at every place but the thoughts of others about discrimination should not overpower oneself's thoughts. This is because when women are taught that they are inferior,it becomes normal for them to expect unequal treatment.Thats why it's important to spread awareness about this crucial issue....What are you all's thoughts upon this topic
I think there shall be a discussion about how women had overcome their situation for being treated equal because all of us are still stuck at the stereotypical thought that men are better than women.
I think there should be a hub and on the topic," discrimination in based upon biological traits, or gender ". This is a topic always on fire. Women are differentiated only because of biological traits scientifically. but, the society is taking advantage with the dominated biological traits by discriminating the women on the their biological difference and mainly, gender, comparing to men. The society is restricting women to focus on their wishes and talents, and they are not leaving them independently. This leads to anxiety and depression in many hearts of women. I think, it would bring a great impact on the society which will convince people, about the actual discrimination of women, and they will start empowering women to extraordinary future leaders...
I feel like women should be payed the same amount as men. and men should be paid the same amount of women maybe women could maybe be paid a bit more if they had kids. nobody should be treated better than each other . cause that is favouritism.
I propose we create a dynamic discussion hub centred around the thought-provoking topic: "How have things transformed for women in the fields of space and technology?" This conversation could illuminate the progress made and challenges still faced, empowering voices and ideas that deserve to be heard.
In addition to women's space exploration, there should be more discussions about online entrepreneurship, animal rescue, and social awareness.
Online businesses are becoming very popular, especially for students. Selling handmade products, freelancing, and content creation are great ways to start.
Animal rescue is also an important issue. Many organizations help neglected or injured animals, but more public awareness is needed.
I think women can go to space because why can’t women go to space and men can
Hello agreeable_moon - women have travelled to space many times, but there are far more male astronauts! Why do you think this might be?
I think a topic worth discussing is, "Should space agencies prioritize diversity and inclusion over purely merit-based selection of personnel?" because it has two sides:
1. Yes, diversity is important. We aim to create a space industry representative of the whole human race, not a select group. A diversified workforce can increase efficiency. Selection criteria should be adjusted to give people of every background a fair chance. Barriers based on gender, race, and disability should be removed. This will bridge the gap between the rich and the poor as the rich students have ease in paying for top colleges. Poorer students who can afford cheaper colleges could have a shot at glory.
2. Selection must be completely merit-based. Space missions are expensive and require top individuals. Lowering selection standards would lead to degradation of space crews. Selection should not be based on factors other than merit. True inclusivity means equal opportunity, not preferential treatment. To address unfair financial conditions, local governments should identify talented individuals in their countries and provide scholarships for study abroad.
I would also like to connect this to a problem in my country. In India, medical and engineering entrance exams have reservations for scheduled tribes and castes. This means they are more likely to gain admission than other students, even though they study the same syllabus and take the same exam. This unfair treatment has led to suicide cases in India. Also, Trump has termed "diversity" a hoax. Could this impact the future of space exploration?
I think there should be a hub discussion called: What Can Males Do About It? We have mostly been focusing on women changing the minds of men but there is another vital question we should be thinking about. How can males change the way everyone thinks about women and gender stereotypes? They could support women and speak up for them, spread the word that we need to fix the problem of gender stereotypes, tell other males that they need to be aware and change the payment and many more. By using this as a Hub discussion, we can change everyone’s minds and encourage men to do something about it to. Lots of us know that mothers are paid 24% less than fathers and that needs to change. There will be lots of incredible ideas that we can use in real life so that people can actually solve the problem. Any ideas are very welcome, thank you.
I think there should be a hub discussion on the topic, “How women feel on not being employed in the similar manner men get and why are they paid lesser compared to men”. This is suggested by me since this is the major crisis the female gender is presently grappling with.
Interesting idea - do you have an opinion on this topic?
Hello !
Is it fair to only women are facing gender inequality, or do men also experience its effects in daily lives too?
Gender inequality is often viewed as a women's issue, but the reality is more complex. While women have historically faced significant barriers to equality, men also experience limitations and expectations based on their gender. From emotional expression to career choices, men are often constrained by traditional masculine norms. By recognizing that gender inequality affects both men and women, we can work towards a more inclusive and equitable society.
I chose this question because it challenges the common assumption that gender inequality only affects women. By asking whether men also experience gender inequality, we can spark a more nuanced discussion about the complexities of gender and its intersections. This question encourages us to think critically about the ways in which societal expectations and norms affect individuals of all genders.
Thank you !
Interesting ideas happy_morning - do you have an opinion on this topic?
I think there should be a Hub discussion post about how women feel when discriminated or unequally treated. It is really important to know how a girl or women feels when equal rights are not given to them. If everyone realises the problem of girls and women, probably there could be a betterment in gender equality by about 30 per cent. If men keep themselves in place of women and think about it maybe they would understand and also make an effort in reducing gender inequality.
This could be a good topic to discuss upon.
I think there should be a discussion on “flipped gender discrimination” which means that in present situations females are majorly discriminated compared to males and we all have had long discussions over it but what will happen if males were discriminated? What would be their solutions? How would they take actions? What problem would they face? And the biggest of all will females be cruel or kind to them in that situation …
Males nowadays do face discrimination but not within opportunities or they aren’t told to not to do something. Females are told not to work then why not males are told not to cook? If women are dependent on males why can’t they be dependent…..
Can you explain more about how men face discrimination?
Women are generally considered weak therefore only men have to do all physically demanding work and they can’t show their emotions, they can’t do any kind of skin care or makeup , they can’t groom nicely and society always tells them to be ruff and masculine in nature and just provide for your family.
Is it fair to generalise that women are weak or that men must always be tough providers, or could these stereotypes be limiting for everyone involved?
I think there should be a Hub discussion post about: why is sexism normally targeted at women? Many stereotypes are against people that are blind, deaf or, in this case, a female. For example: women Always wear makeup to attract boys. Now, some ladies DO do that for that reason, however others use makeup to hide their insecurities that they're afraid people may judge. That's the causes of being stereotypical. People think their appearances are a big thing in society. As children ourselves, or maybe in our early adolescent years, our brains take in the information that we are taught in school and keep it for years and years. Learning this info early on in our lives helps us understand more complex things as we live on, like how many people are discriminated due to certain attributes. For example, if you have a mental issue, many people make fun of you for maybe not thinking properly, or having the mental age of a 6 year old. This isn't funny. Many girls and women don't have enough confidence to take on jobs such as: pilots, scientists and astronauts. Mainly because most percentage of them are men. They don't have the courage to take on the job, and they're afraid people won't like them as much and think that they don't do as good as a job as men. Maybe that's what they were told, or maybe that's just them believing all those stereotypical rumours about themselves, or women in general. As kids, we learn from the adults.
So, what's YOUR opinion?
I think there should be a discussion about whether gender inequality is a real problem or are we just too blind to notice the things that men also experience. I think there should be a discussion for this topic because, the bad things that women experience, men also experience, just in a different form. The good things that men experience, women also experience, also in a different form.
In normal circumstances, when women get less pay, respect, and opportunity compared to men in the workplace, men are expected and forced to be strong, work hard, make a lot of money, and completely provide for his family's financial needs. When men are given more pay, respect, and opportunity compared to women in the workplace, women aren't expected and forced to be strong, work hard, make a lot of money, and completely provide for her family's financial needs. I think, if all the things that men and women experience are made to be exactly the same, in a couple of decades, the difference between men and women socially and even physically will be very thin and almost nonexistent. This is all essential for the well being of humans.
I think there should be a discussion about biomes and which ones we need to protect the most and least. Biomes are important to protect because they are what makes different parts of the world reality. People are destroying these biomes and soon, there will be no world because of these people. Biomes are also like habitats to many creatures. One of the most precious ones to protect is the rainforests. We breathe air: which trees breathe out. Humans technically live in all biomes, especially indigenous people in the wild. We can't afford more people to lose their homes because of others who only cares about themselves. The coldest is the tundra because it is a snowy place, located near the top of the world where it isn't warm because the sun is not facing that part to make it warm. Still, biomes are endangered so we need to save them!
One topic I think deserves debate is whether maternity leaves benefit both the company and the mother. This debate has the following clauses:
1. Proposition: Paid maternity leaves ensure the development and stability of families. It also encourages women in the workforce. To make it fairer for employers, the government should provide maternity leave. Capitalism has undervalued the importance of unpaid labor and motherhood. Providing no maternity leave can leave women facing a difficult choice: quit their job or forgo proper child development.
2. Opposition: It is very difficult for small businesses to provide such leaves. The demand for maternity leaves might make companies hesitate before hiring women of childbearing age. It is a corporate system, and caring for every woman is highly impractical. As for government-sponsored leaves, it would increase federal spending, leading to higher taxes. People faking pregnancies would also be an issue.
Gender equality: If mothers are given these leaves, fathers should also be provided with the same facilities. Some people raise children alone; hence, parental leave is equally important.
Global support:
1. Countries like Canada, Sweden, Finland provide compulsory leaves of up to a year.
2. The USA still remains one of the few developed nations where leave depends on the employer.
3. India provides 6 to 7 months of official paid maternity leave. This was a hard-fought struggle by groups of women lawyers across the country.
Is gender equality more important than capitalism? Will men raise voices if women get maternity leaves?
I think there should be a Hub discussion post on how we can help children to pursue a career in space and fix gender stereotypes. By getting little children to understand what is going on in our world, they will be aware from a young age and try to do something about it. Because they know what’s going on, they will have enthusiasm to do something about and enthusiasm can stay in a child’s heart. Therefore, more children will want to change our world to a better space and solve the problem of gender stereotypes. We can get children interested by running space or gender workshops that help build our world better, day by day, year by year. However, what’s important is that we make sure that children are aware as then for the future generation, the new people in charge are mindful of the problem and because they have known from a young age, they will do something about and they know a lot. This is why it is essential that children know about it, and there should be a Hub discussion all about it, because the children could change the world.
There should be a hub discussion on the topic, “ How can we safeguard the rights of women?”
I think we need to focus on gender budgeting, and publicly speaking against the unfairness going on. I believe if we focus on the resources we have - collected - and spent to provide to the cause of gender equality it could very well work out. On the topic of publicly speaking I believe this method could have more of an impact on society than anything else. In the past people protested and protested on women being able to vote. It took a while but their dream came true. If we could do it once we can do it again. This day in time I believe people are more open to women because we've seen what they can do first hand. So the topic I would like to have a discussion on is, "What will benefit more "Gender Budgeting or Publicly Speaking"
I think that this is an important topic that just gets swept underneath the carpet and not spoken about enough, because in everyday life there is always some type of gender inequality, because when have you ever heard of a country that is female dominated and men don't have a chance of a career or even a basic education? You don't because it doesn't happen , but then it's fine for women not to get an education in some countries? No it's not. The fact that if women do a man's job, men always look down at them when in fact women can probably do just as good of a job. Even if there is competition in a workplace between genders, then it should be a friendly competition. Also women should be seen as stronger than what they are because whenever men have a little sniffle or a cold, why do they have to do nothing? What are women and mothers doing when they are ill? When women are ill they are still having to do their daily jobs and probably still attend work. I think that the hub has started a discussion about this will teach people from a younger age because this is a topic that is very important and need to be talked about without it seeming awkward to bring a conversation up and you also are able to see other peoples point on view on topics like these and hear what it is like in different countries.
I think an important topic to discuss especially in gender inequality with stereotypes and all is the role of social media. For example in recent generations specifically in Gen Z,75% of Gen Z are single and a large factor of the reason why is social media. For example men are being saturated will red pill content and are being told that women only want to use them for their money and are activig trying to cheat on them and hate them while women are ingesting content that tells them that men are actively trying to hurt them and hates them. This then decreases their self esteem and social skills making them too scared to approach each other. Another factor is people needs to be successful and make billions of dollars by 20 as it is important to be able to survive and thrive on your own before trying provide and take of someone else. Not only that you see 19 year old millionaires with fancy cars and houses and your favorite celebrities having multiple cars and designer bags and purses. This can significantly decrease your self worth and confidence and increases insecurity and fear in both men and women.
From my point of view, I think that there should be a hub discussion post about Racism.
HOW CAN HUMANS JUDGE PEOPLE FROM THEIR SKIN COLOR?
HOW CAN THIS ENORMOUS PROBLEM BE SOLVED IN SOME FOREIGN COUNTRIES?
What are you opinions on the questions you have asked?
Sexism has been taught and is being ignored time after time we need to stop this now as I know it will be worse in the future. Woman and men would be fighting and hurting each over in the future if we don't stop sexism. Woman and men have a big impact on the world, the next generation and now.
Thank you topical talk
I reckon that this type of topics must be discussed as much as possible just to make young people aware of the fact that they can´t say determined things because we don´t really know how much times that commentary will be repeated on the mind of the other person and also how it will affect them at long term.
In adittion I suggest a question I usually think about, it is that will it be some point where we all stop facing discrimination in any type of way, where also the acceptance of women or different ethnic persons will be accepted in society? If you think so how do you think it will be achieved, with what type of methods?
Because I really think that discrimination will always be there ,as a result it is something we can´t ignore and let be, but also is something we can´t solve at all, it will always be there but it doesn´t mean that we have to stop fighting against it.
What do you think about?
Do you think discrimination may disappear at some point?
Interesting ideas. How can we fight against discrimination?
To be honest I don´t really have a clear idea, thats why i suggested this discussion at first, because i wanted to know what type of ideas people would have.
There is also the normal type of plans that are ongoing to fight against discrimination, such as talks in schools mentioning racism or misogyny, but it doesn´t have a big impact in many kids that are told in their homes that racist or misogyny ideas are the right ones, so they will probably end up being like one of them.
unsure if ive commented under this already, yet ive gotten more information on this topic from my peers! i believe a conversation on how certain womanhood stereotypes get spread throughout media. such as, podcasts, movies, or even articles. ive seen a lot of crudeness towards stereotypes made about women in these forms media, and so has my peers whom i talked to. i think giving examples and showing whats a right representation and whats a wrong representation could be intresting for this topic.
I think there should be a hub discussion about "gender inequality in space " many women who are in aerospace industry don't get that much opportunity in leadership roles , get unequal payment and are not being shown their achievements especially in male dominant industry .many stereotypes and biased workers is discouraging them from following their dreams .we the society should stop criticizing female and believe them , encourage them in any field that they wish to work and give opportunities for Leadership roles .highlighting their achievements globally . From these Encouragements young girls out there will be inspired to come out of their barriers and be motivated to pursue their dreams and achieve more in life .
We should discuss how the males should have females in different jobs. Women have qualities that some men don't have. They also have Witt's that men have but they also have it in different areas. I think they should consider women more in political and professional settings.
I think there should be a hub discussion about AI in video games. I think this because about two years ago I did a lesson on this topic. This lesson was very hands-on and allowed for great conversations. Another reason for this topic is because many people are familiar with both AI and video games, thus allowing topical talkers to flow better conversations.
I strongly believe that the reason women have been undermined when it comes to space exploration is because at this point of time, its very much a male dominated field. For example, if you asked someone who is the first man in space, they would say Yuri Gagarin. If you asked, who is the first women in space, they probably couldn't give an answer. Also, 12 people have wen to moon, every single one was a man. this clearly shows that women are overshadowed and seen as inferior in the space industry.
Within the world at the moment women are known as the people who are more or less in the background. In example, if you ask a person who landed on the moon, who discovered this and that it is most likely a male answer meaning that the women aren't being recognised for who they are. I bet you about 1% of the population would be probably able to answer that question with a woman. In my opinion women haven't been given a chance in life and it should change as they are as important. With 12 people making to the moon not one single women has made it nor being given an opportunity. Just because the subject is a lot more populated by men doesn't always mean that women can't like and be given the same turn in life. To move forward we must be given more education and awareness.
On the topic of gender inequality, I would like to suggest a discussion on mental health. As many jobs are predominantly male-led, many females face immense pressures and feel "imposter syndrome" as there might be few other women in their jobs. This pressure to rise up to a certain "persona" to fit in can drive a decrease in mental health as well as create a toxic cycle where women feel as though they must prove themselves while avoiding to show their vulnerable sides. I have noticed this within my family, a female cousin of mine who recently started working in construction has mentioned the countless pressures she feels she needs to uphold. Claiming she has to avoid being vulnerable and be just as strong as the men she works with. I, firsthand, have seen my bubbly cousin who always bore a smile...change into someone different. Someone who feels as though she NEEDS to be someone else in order to "fit in" her workplace. This has made me wonder....is this a problem for every female? Is it just for females in construction? This has made me decide to suggest it as a discussion (I hope it's not too late to post on this topic).
I think there should be a discussion about " Most similar, most different: Space version" because if you would Imagine an astronaut, who would you imagine? Male or Female? There are different opinions on this, but most people would think men because people think men can do a better job than women. There are also payments that come in to this section because women's payments is always going to be less if this problem isn't resolved in time. Gender inequality is all over the world and we can't stop it now because we can't change peoples minds when the judge people.
Gender inequality is an extremely important topic due to it slowing down the economic growth and development of this planet. In the UK, women that enter work with higher qualifications, will still earn less than men with lower. I think that there should be a hub discussion post about how to stop homophobia due to it affecting many people's lives. Many people who identify as LGBTQIA+ are discriminated against for no reason and feel like they should hide themselves due to other people's abuse, bullying and violence.
From razors to deodorants, women often pay more for products nearly identical to men's—simply because they're pink. The pink tax is more than unfair pricing; it's a clear example of gender inequality widening the financial gap in an already unequal world. Recently, while visiting a supermarket, I noticed the same candy, from the same company, with identical ingredients, cost more because it was pink rather than blue. Razors branded as more delicate for women's use are also more expensive. This might seem a matter of neglect, because most consumers can afford this unfair inflation, but it slowly and steadily increases the gap between men and women. Mothers, who generally earn less due to unfair promotions and pay, have to spend more. While we try our best to keep this world equal, companies inflate prices for increased profits. The stereotype that girls like pink cosmetics or candies is the main problem. This shows that we have perpetuated this thinking for generations, making stereotypes the most difficult problem to fix. While our government promote gender equality, they should look at the increasing pink tax, shouldn't they? Pricing should be decided on the basis of the product NOT its color. It's time to challenge outdated pricing structures, demand policy changes, and choose brands that promote fair pricing. The pink tax is real, but with awareness and immediate action, we can end this hidden form of gender discrimination.
I think there should be a Hub discussion post about **space and gender inequality** because it’s like we’re living in this giant galaxy full of possibilities, yet when it comes to space exploration, women are often left out of the spotlight, like stars hidden behind a cloud. There are tons of incredibly smart and brave women who could be astronauts, but they don’t get the same chances as men. Why is it that, even in 2025, space seems like a place where only men get to leave their footprints on the moon? It’s like a giant adventure park where only one group gets the key to enter, even though everyone’s capable of making history. If we want space exploration to be a true reflection of humanity, shouldn’t everyone—no matter their gender—be able to dream big and reach for the stars?
Think about all the amazing things women have done in history, from inventing life-changing technologies to breaking barriers in every field imaginable. So why isn’t that being recognized in space? Sure, we’ve had a few women astronauts, but it’s still a small number compared to men. It’s like we're at the edge of a new world, but we're only letting one group of people explore it. And the craziest part is, no one really talks about how that’s holding us back. Imagine what could happen if we gave equal opportunities for women to lead space missions, innovate new technologies, and explore unknown worlds—would we reach even greater heights?
So, what do you think? How can we change the way we view gender equality in space, and make sure everyone gets a chance to soar into the stars?
I think there should be a Hub discussion post about space law, now that space travels are in increment by the influence of Elon Musk I think, will mandatories of different countries start to implement a space law to regulate different activities of the astronauts outside the legal limits of the Earth or for future communities around the galaxy?
I think there should be a Hub discussion post about how the rise of Ai in space exploration relates to gender equality? As we all know, Ai is widely used in space industries for helping in tasks like navigation, improving safety systems, planning of mission etc. So, how might this change the gender dynamic and barrier in the space industry? Because the development of Ai and technology has mostly been men-lead, only 29% of Ai workforce is represented by women, isn't that very unfair. How can we relate the use of Ai in space exploration with gender equality? If we use Ai to promote and encourage women and people from different background to join space workforces, will this make the situation any better? As Ai's use grows bigger in this field, we can involve more "diverse" perspectives to help shape the technology. This might challenge the traditional gender stereotypes (not only gender stereotypes, but also stereotypes for various other people belonging to different backgrounds, race etc) and make a remarkable change in our society! Discussing this will help us think in a more creative way and improve our problem solving skills. We will also relate the topic "Ai and sustainibility" and "One step for women, one giant leap for humankind."
I think there should be a hub discussion post on toxic masculinity
this is because to be fair women are the least respected of the 2 genders for many years, however we need to make both of the struggles of men and women equal. From what I've seen personally, men arent as talked about for there problems and are still hiding emotions. At my school I usually seeing boys being aggresive and acting like the toughest people around which is a trait of toxic masculinity. Im not saying they do have toxic masculinity but if they do it shows it still happens to young boys. I think seeing people discuss toxic masculinity will open men eyes and show them the problems it can cause
these can be:
- Isolation
- Mental Health Issues (e.g. depression, anxiety, etc)
- Relationship challenges
- lack of empathy
- much much more
with many discussions talking about these issues I assume it will work on helping these types of men from all the amazing discussions I've seen!
I think that we should start a discussion on the topic designing job admission platforms for women at male dominated industries
