  • What I know is that in some countries, gender inequality is a huge problem , because Women are forced to be sitting in their homes doing chores ,cooking , and taking care of children, but men are forced to go to work, and most of men works farmers, and engineers. But in my opinion that's not fair , women and men must be equal , both have to work and both have to take care of their kids . And I agree that it's not about gender.

    1. I agree because... some say women needs the lesser work due to their gender and also men do the bigger task in the society which gives them stress and at times they need to rest from the hard work.

    2. I agree because women could be strong too so they can work as much as a man and get paid the same. This is a serious problem for the world. Women in China are afraid to have children because they can lose their job. In Australia only 12% of women are in the construction industry. That is unfair for a man to deny that many women. I believe that women should get paid the same and be treated the same.

    3. I agree because... women really don't have much power to their name, and I feel that they really don't get much respect and as a girl, I hate to see women get disrespected just because they're girls. Some women lose out on money and amazing jobs just because men look at them and don't believe that they can contribute in anything which is horrendous, because some women have a lot of ideas that can help with a lot of problems most men think women should just stay home and cook or clean, but women can do so much more so in all that is why I agree with this statement.

      1. I agree with you women are down graded because of their look and strength but in their brains they have more brilliant ideas on improving the world today and make it a bit better

    4. I totally agree with you.It is true that women are inferior to men regarding their professionnal development since society demands from them to play the role of an obedient housewife and they are not given equal opportunities when it comes to pursuing a career.Women are called to do jobs that are supposed to be female friendly such us teachers or nurses because they should stay more at home taking care of their family. As a result they are deprived of their dreams and they cannot perform "male" professions like being astronauts and plumbers. Not only that but there is also the stereotype of being fragile and sensitive , something that is not the reality since women are strong and resilient enough to overcome a difficult situation.BUT...one thing is for sure.Gender inequality is still an issue that must be solved.

    5. I agree with what lively _analysis said, and it is unfair that in many countries women are stuck inside their homes taking care of their children, cooking and cleaning the house. Another reason it is unfair for women not to be able to go to work is that they aren't making money if they do not have jobs, and that means they might not be able to pay for their houses and could become homeless. Men and women should have equal rights, and be able to work in the same industry as men.

    6. I agree because women also have the right to have a job because some women just sit in the house all day and watch
there kid. when some women work like men and do hard jobs like constructing, mining and so on.

  • I know that women often do not get invited to space. The first woman to ever to be in space was 1963 but the space race started in 1955 so for 8 years women weren't allowed in space. This must have been discouraging for all the women interested in astronomy and in general science. It was seen as a "Male" subject which was hinting that a woman could not do it.And also to mention the first woman of color to visit space was 1992.This was extremely sexist against women.

  • Women in the space industry are helping the fight for women's equal rights and opportunities by proving their importance and impact in the space industry and society. In addition, Mae Jemison is an example of an important figure in the space industry along with the history of women. Mae Jemison is known as the first woman of color to travel to space, gaining recognition and appreciation worldwide. She was also trained to be a medical officer, medical doctor, and physician. During her stay in space, she conducted experiments in life science, material science, and bone cells, playing a key role in the progression of learning about space, our planet, and science. Not only did she make an important impact in the space industry, she also helped people of color and women stand up for equal rights and opportunities. Furthermore, after her experience in space and her impact on the space industry, she has become a role model to people of color and women due to her extraordinary bravery, determination, and knowledge, which she later on devoted her life to supporting BIPOC women in their involvement in STEM and space. In conclusion, Mae Jemison is known as the first woman of color to travel to space, leading to a major milestone in the space industry and the society of women, which later on helped women get involved in STEM and space.

    1. I completely agree with you... because it is very very unfair that more than 24% of fathers were paid more than women in 2023. I can also state that women like Mae Jemison wanted to prove that women can be anything as long as they try.

    2. I agree with you. Women in space is a significance that women can go to space and it also helps other women around the world, because it will encourage other females that they shouldn't let anyone talk them down just because they are women they should stand strong and they can be as great as they want to be.

  • I was quite surprised by some of the facts on the quiz, and it really just shows how gender inequality still exists largely around the world.

One thing that I didn't previously know about is the 'motherhood penalty'. The fact that this even exists when a mother has to go through so much to bring up a child actually really shocked me. If anything, a mother requires more money after childbirth because things like nappies, cribs, pushchairs, etc. are not cheap at all. I don't think that it's fair at all to decrease a woman's pay after becoming a mother: this just reinforces the stereotype that a man should provide for a woman and she should stay at home and take care of the children because her work is not worth as much as a man's for some reason.

Another fact that came up on the quiz was something that I had previously heard about, but it's still something that shocks me. The fact that the first all-female spacewalk had to be cancelled because the spacesuits were built for men just shows how little women are considered in more demanding jobs. It really doesn't mean that women should be confined to domestic roles or that we can't be good at male-dominated jobs. This is also the same for SEATBELTS of all things - crash-test dummies being based on the 'average' male just shows women are once again not considered, and lives are being put at risk due to ignorance.

I think it is so insane how gender inequality still exists, and I do wonder how such ideologies come about. Women are not any less than men - there are so many examples of women who can do things that men can't.

    1. You say there are 'many examples of women who can do things that men can't' - can you give me some evidence of this?

      1. I'm not sure about this because... there are many examples of women who can and can't do what men can do. Some evidence of this is that some women do hard jobs; but there are also some who can't so in conclusion I don't know if I agree or disagree with this claim.

      2. I'm not sure about this because... there are many reasons why women can do the same jobs as men because not all women want to be at home cooking and cleaning. Some women can do the same jobs as men because not only men can do jobs females can also, therefore women should be able to work at jobs too.

  • Well there was a lack of gender equality in the USA mostly in the 60's and most astronauts and space conductors were white men not even black men were allowed to work with the white people , they could only work if they were in their own sector and as well there would be a section for women and black women as well so there would be a mass race inequality and a mass gender inequality. One example are 3 women in the 60's who were extremely intelligent in computing and space the 3 women were: Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughn and Mary Jackson. These were 3 women who worked in computing science for NASA and Katherine calculated and analysed the flight paths of many spacecraft, including the first human spaceflight, the first orbital flight and the first moon landing. Mary Jackson was NASA'S first black female engineer and this was in the 1960's and the space race began in 1950 so NASA spent 14 years without a black and female engineer and this shows the amount of inequality back then. Gender and race. Dorothy Vaughn was NASA'S fist black female manager and she made important contributions to the early years of the United States space program, also she was the first Black female to receive a promotion at NASA. This signifies to the large discrimination in the United States of America and the achievements they were able to make and these 3 people show me that it is never good to give up , be resilient even if you go through tough times. There are also many women who went through something similar like: Valentina Teschokova who was the first woman in Space. Thank you.

  • The space industry has had a long history of gender inequality, but more and more women are helping to change that! A long time ago, women like Katherine Johnson helped NASA by doing math for space missions, but they weren’t always recognized. In 1983, Sally Ride became the first American woman in space, and since then, many other women have followed, like Peggy Whitson, who spent the most days in space by an American astronaut.

Now, more women are working in space, not just as astronauts, but also as engineers and scientists. For example, Swati Mohan led the team that landed the Mars rover in 2020! Still, there’s a problem. Only about 20% of space engineers are women, and we need more girls to see that they can work in space too.

So, while women have already done amazing things in space, we need to keep encouraging girls to join the space industry. The more women we have, the more we can do in space!

  • I found out a lot of things. The first thing that I was surprised to see is that women get paid 24% less than women per hour. That is so unfair and something should be done about this. I didn't think that things like this still exist. I also didn't know about Sally Ride, but I think it was very rude from the journalist to ask what make-up she will take in space or if she cried under pressure. He should have been fired for the questions that he put and the fact that he thought that women stereotypes are real. Another thing that surprised me was the fact that 95% men from age 25-54 are employed, but women from age 25-54 are 52% employed. That is a major difference and I can't understand why does it exist because women are capable to do the same things as men. Also there should be more women working in the AI because the person who created the quiz has a very good point about the fact that if a diverse group isn't testing, there might be the chance that it works better for some people than others.
I didn't know that gender inequality was such a major problem, but I think that something should be done to fix it once and for all.

    1. I would absolutely agree with you. Boy or girl, you see the same side that I do. These actions are very unfair and as a young girl myself, this comment gives me a good feeling that I am not alone and that someone else understands me and I can understand them. One detail that I love about your comment is that you really showed what you learned in the classroom lesson. If I hadn't done this lesson your comment would give me a great understanding of gender inequality for both men and women. Trustful_dragonfly, thank you for giving me a clear understanding of gender inequality.

  • In my perspective, women in space like Shawn Pandya and Dr. Sian Leo Proctor are great role models to women on Earth because I'm sure that two or more women are motivated to go beyond the extra ordinary and prove people wrong that women are not just meant to be care takers and child sitters. According to the quiz, I learnt that across the world, 95% of men between the ages of 25 and 54 are employed but just 52% of women are. This suggests that having both a career and children is out of reach for many women. While reading it, I wasn't really pleased that women penalty was still ongoing. I know that many women are really affected by this and in the lesson, it was said that "it is really hard for mothers at this point because they have to use all their income to care for their child." The tight situation here is that:
    1. They are payed low salary.
    2. They have to keep I know that sometimes women are even bullied by co- workers.
At this point women will definitely be frustrated and stressed out. I suggest that if this happens, the organization should be informed and when they know, they shouldn't leave it at that but they should try and support women in the following ways:
    1. Create a crèche in the office or work place
    2. Give them a vacation or leave
I hope that when work places put this in place, women will really touched by this act of kindness.

    1. I agree with you, thankful_truth. It is important for women to be able to afford to look after their children, but if they are paid less than masculine workers, how will they be able to look after their children. They shouldn't have to make sacrifices for their offspring although some will have to be made, like going to another place instead of going to the mother's preference. However, mothers should not have to go hungry so their children can eat.

Stereotypes are another big problem. Women are presumed to be more prone to cry, as proved when the first female astronaut went to space.

When our generation are adults, I hope sexist problems are fixed.

  • I know that in the space industry the big firsts are always men. The person on the moon was a man, the first person in space was a man. The first American astronaut went to space on may 5, 1961 (Alan Shepard). The first american women did not go to space until June 18, 1983 (Sally Ride). The first man walked on the moon in July 1969 (Neil Armstrong), to this day no women has ever walked on the moon.

    1. I agree because... I don't think that in all of my 5 years in school I have heard or learned about a women/lady going to any planet or the moon. I think that as a result, women should be praised a lot when they do accomplish these great things such as going to the moon or being a astronaut. So when the first woman goes to space and lands on the moon the women will prove that they are great and are equals to men. Lastly, the woman who will land on the moon will be remembered forever.

  • With the topic of gender equality, I believe that everyone should be treated the same no matter what race or gender you are. Many people get exploited because of there gender and that causes women to miss out on amazing opportunities that could change their lives. Back in the olden days, women were thought to be used as maids for all of the dirty work around the house like the cooking and cleaning while men were at their jobs. Men had so many more job opportunities then women did. Men could work at the industries , the army , building sites hospitals but women could do none of that. Research shows us that 49%percent of women do not have a job because of gender equality but 51% of them do. This is very surprising. I scored 7 out of 8 in the quiz and in my opinion gender equality has improved but it could be so much better if the country could work together to crate a better world.

  • After finishing the quiz I started to realize how bad gender inequality could get, one of the things i noticed in the interview question that most people think that women are very fragile and are crushed under pressure (not literally) but that's just not true. just because some women are like that, they automatically assume all women are like that?

Another question that shocked me to my core was the motherhood penalty the question said that mothers earn 24% less than normal it mipght not sound like alot at first glance but if you do the math it's a lot more than you would think. I feel like people should pay 24% more to take care of her child better.

Every time i see something about gender inequality my opinion about it gets worse and worse and now I firmly want to stop it once and for all and we can do it with everyone's help.

  • When I took the test it surprised and made me upset that the first American women in space named "Sally Ride" was asked if she cried under pressure, what makeup she was taking, and who was going to do the cooking. It's so disrespectful that that's the first thing they ask instead of why do you like space, what made you interested, and its so rude that that's the first thing they want to ask. I'm just upset that the interviewer had the nerve to ask her these feminist questions.

    1. it really surprised me aswell, it´s so weird that those were the questions they decided to make to someone. the crying under presure in my opinion isn´t as weird of a question since they need someone who can take high levels of pressure but with the other question its so unbelivable that they would ask that. It should have been a serious interview with a high level os respect and with actual important question about the job or her goals in the company.

      1. I'm happy to see you agree, but the fact that they asked her if she cried under pressure is not really fair. In my opinion, it's disrespectful that they asked this because, even if she's a girl, that doesn't mean she's automatically going to cry. Its not fair to aks her any of these questions in general.

  • What I learned from the quiz is how women in the space industry are fighting for gender equality as we speak. When Sally Ride became the first American female in space, she was stereotyped by men with the things that girls do such as, doing make-up, cooking, and crying under pressure. This marked the unfair stereotypes that men have for women, thinking women cannot do the same things as men could do. But, she proved those men who doubted her wrong by being in space. Another example of gender inequality I learned from the quiz is how, the space suits were originally designed for men but this caused problems for the women who were on the all-female spacewalk for NASA which were later resigned to be comfortable for both women and men. This proves how women can do anything that men can do and female astronauts have recently proven this.

  • I scored a 7 out of 8.I learned a few things from this quiz. The one that really spoke to me was the Sally Ride one. I think the question he asked was very inappropriate. Asking what make-up she would take, if she's going to break down due to pressure, s going to cry under pressure, and who is going to cook and that is not a nice thing to say. He was being stereotypical. Another thing that I learned is that women get paid 24% less than men , I say that this is not fair for woman. The woman and men are doing the same job I wouldn't understand why they would pay one more one less. In Australia construction is one of a few jobs that has one of the most male-dominated industries world wide. Only 12% of these workers are female.

In conclusion, I think these problems are causing major impacts to the world we live in. I believe all people have to work together, to make this world better.

    1. in terms of construction it will be a male dominated industry due to the science of the human body. men were designed to be stronger and to hunt fight for survival etc this would boost their strength and it would be passed down generations.

  • I got 6 out of 8! What I know about gender inequality is that it means it's not equal or like how it's unequal for everyone like how there's more men in construction than women and how more women are at home as a housewifes instead of men being housedads. So in summary gender inequality is a big problem in jobs. Now there are much more women becoming astronauts and in 2023 UNOOSA showed that only 11% of the world's astronauts are women, 6.6% are spacewalkers, and 20% are in the space workforce. The first woman in space is Valentina Tereshkova and the first woman to complete a spacewalk was Svetlana Savitskaya.

Gender inequality is also a big problem in sports like soccer because in women's soccer it's less rough because if you do watch women's sport they don't get that hurt and say bad words to each other, but on the other hand in men's soccer it's a lot more rough from players have nose bleeds, break their leg or either their ankles, they also can bleed from their face like when I was watch soccer I saw a players head bleeding, and they said more bad words then women's sport. There's also women's WWE and like the same thing men's WWE is rougher from in WWE men have more muscular, bigger, and maybe stronger. This also means that more people favor men's sport rather than women's sports.

In conclusion, gender inequality is a world-wide problem because lots of people think that women aren't capable of what men can do and that not many people think that women are capable of what men can do.

    1. An interesting comment. Is there any evidence to support your claim that women's soccer is less rough?

      1. Women's soccer is less rough and different than men's soccer because from what I have learned in soccer the data from the 2022 Men's Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) World Cup and the 2023 Women's FIFA World Cup, we can see that women's soccer matches are characterized by lower foul rates, higher ball recoveries, and a shorter average pass distance. Men's soccer is tougher/rougher than women's soccer from that women cover distances more by long passes rather than short range activities like dribbling, and short passes.Their play is also less aggressive than men's soccer like for instance fewer slide tacklings and they also have to use other strategies for kicking a goal. Men's soccer is also more aggressive from the slide tackles like for instance these slide tackles or headers can cause big injuries like breaking a leg or hurting it, bleeding, etc. soccer is also male dominant because according to research there are 78.6% players that are men and 21.4% players that are women making soccer male dominant.

In conclusion women's soccer is less aggressive/rough than men's soccer and different from men's soccer.

    2. Hi coherent_eagle, first of all I scored 10/10. I absolutely agree that gender inequality is a world-wide major problem and usually men are participating in most or nearly all the jobs in the world.
Including sports like football, the most popular sport in Egypt, usually men are the nearly only famous people that plays football; if someone asks another to name at least 2/3 women football players, no one would reply, since if you asked another to name 5/10 men football players in a specific country everyone would fight to answer the question.
One the other hand, you said that men's WWE is rougher than women's because men are muscular, bigger and stronger but I think you're wrong. Not because men are acting rough so they are stronger than women. Maybe women are much stronger and usually people says women are stronger cause they have to take care of kids, the house, do the dishes, prepare food and help in the children's H.W all of this in less than an hour, just imagine the stress that they feel. I tried it once, I had a headache and got tired from doing the chores, they are very very very strong.
      Thanks for reading 📖

    3. I disagree because... it wont be gender inequality because they allowed everyone to participate rather I would call it protection although people see women as weaker vessels they can endure more pain than the men especially during pregnancy. So what people are trying to do is more or less protect women from dangers that could occur in the course of playing various games in the field or arena so in other to prevent pain, they make the sport less ruthless or harsh for the females.

  • Women are manly affected because back in the olden days women were not allowed to vote. If they were lucky they would have a job. If they did the same job as men they would get paid less.

    1. Can you tell me more about what you know on women being allowed to vote?

      1. Well it was not until a lot later in life that women were aloud to vote because people protested against what the government said. The group that did this were called the suffragettes they used a variety of tactics including art , debate , propaganda and property damage.

      2. I'm not sure about this because... I think that woman should continue to vote because everybody should have the right to vote whether it's their culture for example: black, white, mexican, and others, or it might be that some people like to tell girls that they going to grow up as a house wife but you can't tell someone what they want to do. So, to change that you can have conversations with someone about this because I think it is wrong to discriminate.

    2. I agree to this point the women are the most affected with gender inequality because many people still hold the cultural beliefs which state that women are weak and men are strong so they are given tasks to do and still paid less

  • The problem of gender inequality is lots of places, Here is a woman who suffered because of it.....Katherine johnson is an example of an African-american women that suffered the gender inequality problem. she showed her talent from a very young age. At the age of 14 , she took alot of courses in mathematics offered by the college so.....I think she is a calculator calculating hard Mathematical problems.

when she became older , she worked at NASA as a mathematician helping to figure out how things move in space When she was 33 she became famous for making hard mathematical calculations and she helped to develop computers to make hard calculations the space agency noted her as the historical role Model and one of the first African-american women to work as a NASA scientist. by her luck NASA chose her, they did not choose women alot because of gender inequality.

By 2015 , she earned a award called Presidential Medal of Freedom , awarded by the president Barack Obama. A year later she was presented with the Silver Snoopy Award by NASA astronaut Leland D. Melvin and a NASA Group Achievement Award . Really I am impressed that she took 2 awards after each other!!!

I wish that soon everyone’s job in everywhere will be based on how they are skilled and work not whether they are men or women
    THANKS FOR READING 😊

  • I know that NASA announced in 2021, that they are aiming to land the first woman on the moon by 2025, this marks an importance step, but gender disparities persist. only 16% of NASA aerospace engineers are woman, and UN Woman reports show signification wage gaps and fewer leadership opportunities for woman in STEM.

  • I know a lot of women don't really get accepted in general into the science industry due to stereotypes and "ideas" about women that aren't true.Women in general aren't accepted into mathematics, physical labour, and science due to stereotypes and ideas that women are suppose to be "Nurtures" and they need to stay at home because they are mothers. For example, Rosalind Franklin was not awarded a Nobel Prize for her work due to "Sexism" and her gender. It provides evidence about this topic in Loyola Marymount University article called "Sexism in Science: Was Rosalind Franklin Robbed of a Nobel Prize?".Another example is Jocelyn Bell Burnell, who was most likely going to win and had possibly the most scientific research and results and they still picked a male candidate. You can also find this information in National Geographic article called "6 Women Scientists Who Were Snubbed Due to Sexism"This is so unfair to women who desire to be scientist one day.

  • The space industry includes everything related to space exploration, research, and commercialization. Agencies like NASA, ESA, and commercial companies like SpaceX send astronauts to space. Scientists study planets, stars, black holes, and more to understand the universe. The space industry has historically been male-dominated, but significant strides have been made to improve gender equality. However, women are still a minority to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) fields which feed into the space industry. Some other challenges such as, gender biases, unequal pay, and lack of mentorship opportunities can create barriers for women in the industry. Despite all these challenges, women absolutely can and should work in the space in the space industry. Their contributions have been vital to space exploration, and increasing diversity leads to better innovation and problem-solving.

  • I know for a fact that NASA's challenging problem for women to fly towards outer space. One of the factors is financial: apparently NASA decided to delay regarding spacesuits for females because of their physical appearance. Not only that, every women's abilities are different, so experiments on these women are a must. Hence having to spend millions of dollars to launch a singular woman into space.

  • I scored 6 out of 8 in the quiz. I learned more information that would help me a lot. While I was answering the quiz, I was really angry because of the high levels of gender inequality that is in our whole planet not just one country. So, let me share some of these informations with more facts from my knowledge and my opinion about it.

What is the percentages of the men and women who are employed around the world?
Actually, 95% of the men around the world are employed but only 25% of the women around the world are employed. This has a horrible impact on the national income that would lead to poverty of the countries. My opinion about that it is a very bad and unfair problem that must be fixed fast.

Who is affected by gender inequality?
Most people will say that only women are affected by gender inequality but this is completely wrong. Think about it as a disease. When we become sick, we will infect the other family members and the family members will affect others and it will continue until everyone will be sick. So, gender inequality affects everyone not only one person. In my opinion, we have to reduce this problem in order to prevent the disease (gender inequality) to prevent this affect on others negatively.

What is the thing that was made especially for men?
Space suits, which means that Nasa's women faced a huge problem while going to space.

To sum up, I learned a lot of new and useful informations from this quiz.

  • I personally agree, that the space industry in womens had created an extraordinary output which leads to women empowerment.space industry in absolutely fighting against gender inequality , and empowering women via motivation, and this will create more unbelievable and outstanding moments in space by womens. The great soviet cosmonout, Valentina Tereshkova , is the very first woman to go to space, full of mysteries .she is a beacon of motivation and inspiration which includes several outstanding records of womens in space. She proved to this world, that women's are not to be treated as maids , they are to achieve extraordinary things in various fields like Space. Space industry is just breaking the gender inequality, and discrimination of women by fighting against gender inequality and by breakin the chain of women's unfairness. This women's records in space industry are reached many hearts of women, to succeed and empower in the life with outstanding skills and records in the great Mystery, space. This is really heart touching to me...

  • In Egypt divorce percentage is so high , so the woman should depend on herself and build her career with her hand . But in Egypt , the woman gets low position but on other hand , it’s more easier for men to get money because the countries give him high position but the woman should struggle to build her care also among the injustice and the ball or supposed to take care of a children but the men can easily entertain themselves . but in Australia make a cover money and education and learning for a child. I know this because there was someone in my family woman that is divorced in Australia they make to her advantage and also the government say to the father that it take care also for the children not only mother but even they didn’t marry a again but here in Egypt the woman if it’s divorced and she should be like build her career and take care of the child and education and learning and the government didn’t help her in anything and this is not fair for any woman. Thank you for listening. Please take care for from divorced and the Woman and thank you. 🙏

  • I scored 7 out of 8. I learnt that gender inequality applies for every one i also learnt that women are not treated the same way as men. Some men still belong to the school of thought that women are not capable of doing anything which is not fair because i kniw that when women are exposed to thebsame training opportunity, they sometimes perform even better than the men in the field.

  • Women in the space industry are fighting for rights and opportunities for women on earth. They are showing that no matter your gender you can get into any industry. With more than 675 men who have gone to space and only 75 women . They are trying to get more women into space and raise those numbers .
Valentina Tereshkova was the the first woman to go to space. She orbited the earth 48 times and stayed in space for almost 3 days. Valentina was a cosmonaut and was the last surviving Vostok. Before she went to space she said ''Hey sky, take of your hat,i'm on my way! ''.
I find it weird to believe that gender inequality is still a problem in the 21st century, because this topic has been on the table of discussion for so long and there is so much awareness about the issue.
The women who are making changes sometimes have to put in twice the effort that men to put in to show that they can do it and accomplish it. Which should not be so in my opinion.

  • In some places women aren't allowed to go to school and their main objective is to have children and take care of the household But men are supposed to make the money and do all of the labor women should be able to work and men should be able to take care of the household they should be able to split up the work so that each can do something like what the other partner does that is my opinion on the matter.

  • As I got a good score of 5/8, I have realized how unfairly treated women are. I think that it is very cruel of big companies and organizations to pay women 24% less than men, furthermore, this makes big , well-known companies have a big drop in their reputation. Another piece of information that sounded very unfair, is the very low percentage of 12% of women working in the construction industry in Australia.

I believe that men are the ones who cause gender inequality, as they think that only men can work in specific jobs, like: builders, businessmen, soldiers, police officers and drivers.

I also think women that work in the space industry are very powerful as they face plenty of challenges that normal people ( men or women) could not handle, which is evidence of how strong and empowered these changemakers are.

But our support to gender equality is not enough. We should make donations to launch insit

  • In some countries, Gender Equality is a very bad problem and needs to be solved as soon as possible so that we can get our rights especially for women.

As a woman, it is known to be hard to be a woman because of getting jobs or even getting paid 24% less than any other man.

So being a woman is hard with all the responsibilities of a woman, if a woman has kids, it's even harder to take all the responsibilities of a woman.

    Thanks for reading.

  • I did the quiz by using my brain and trying to remember what I was taught in topical talk so far and what I learnt from the quiz above is: I learnt that gender inequality isn't only for women but it is for every one and I also learnt that in construction 95% of men are doing construction while only 15% of women are doing construction and I think that women should do better than men and step up and they should also push the men down and stand up for themselves and not allow the men push them down or allow the men tell them that they can't do something or their not strong enough or their not mature or their not old enough or their only meant for the kitchen and household chores. I also learnt that in AI work forces 25% of women work there and the people that work there when they finish making something there they don't get a group of people that also work there to test the thing that they made and that can have the risk of some people are able to use the thing that the people in the AI work forces made and others can't use the thing that the people in the AI work forces mad and I think they should test the things they make so they don't risk this.
    THANK YOU FOR READING

  • From my perspective, I believe that female astronauts are often overlooked when deciding who should be allowed to go to space and who shouldn't. ISS National said that out of the 634 total space travelers, only 73 have been women. Think about that, less than a 7th of total space travelers have been women. For example, Jerrie Cobb was an accomplished physician/engineer who was more than qualified for the job with her surpassing the majority of her male counterparts in numerous tests needed to become an astronaut like swallowing a rubber tube to test your stomach acids. However, NASA failed to observe her talents, and instead invested there time into astronauts such as Buzz Aldrin, who was a male. Coincidence? I think not. History has repeated itself for centuries, with women constantly being denied the same jobs a man because they are deemed, "unfit" by employers and people who believe that women can't work what is considered, "A man job". However, I am hopeful for the upcoming centuries because big space corporations like SpaceX and NASA have been investing to introducing more women into the field of space such as the NEXT GEN STEM project, which is devoted to introducing and carrying females into the workforce of space. I hope and dream that the current status of gender equality is changed, and that females will be looked at as hard workers, instead of unfit for the job.

  • I score 8 out of 8 In my opinion I did very good 👍 and I learnt a lot of things for example
Sally ride was the first American woman in space in 1983
construction is one of the most male dominated industries globally
95% of men between the age of 25 and 54 are employed but just 52% are women. In my opinion, it is not fair because they women deserve to be employed, because they might even do better than some of the men that are currently employed in the construction industry if given a chance. Also, when it comes to payment, it is only right for there to be an equal payment for the same kind of work been done but men get paid higher than woman for the same job.

  • Women have faced a lot of inequality and stereotypical headlines throughout the years. We are expected to "make men sandwiches" and watch all the kids at home. This is wrong and uncalled for. When I took the quiz I got a 6 out of 8 and it shocked me to know how women have been treated as un-equivalent including in the space industry as well. I learned that Sally Ride was the first American woman in space in 1983. When she was interviewed she was asked about makeup she'd be taking, who'd be cooking, and whether she cried under pressure. Which was both very stereotypical and unfair. I also learned about how space suits were originally made for men. As if girls were never going to become astronauts. The mission was obviously cancelled but, this was a male-led development. And if this doesn't stop then gender equality will tank.

  • I got 7/8 and I learned that moms get 24 % less than dad like when dad earned 500 dollars mom will earn 380 dollars, some women are construction workers in Australia, only 12% of women are astronauts, only 26% of women work for STEM and science, and only 26% of women work for AI and 74% of men work for AI. I think women can do any job even If it is only for boys. It doesn't matter about gender It matters about skill. Yes I will use the quiz within my arguments.

  • I got 7 out of 8 on the quiz. I learned that women earn 24% less than men. Men earn 76%. In 2019 there was supposed to be a women space walk but the space suits did not fit the women and the walk had to be canceled. I think space suites are very expensive, but women need to be considered when space suits are made, because we have women astronauts. In the United States there are more women as teachers than men. With A.I the voices are voiced by females and the men create the A.I an example is Alexa. I think it is time for women to be represented in all jobs. I will use what I learned in this lesson to respond to other comments.

  • I scored 6 out of 8 on the quiz.I also wanted to address something, the questions they asked Sally Ride was inappropriate. I say that because what if she retaliated off what he. She could have gotten very angry. If she had gotten very angry, she might have never gotten the job as an astronaut. This shows why we should never stereotype people. .I also learned that 24% of women make less than man, that's not right either because there working the same job but the man is getting paid more what if the woman is working more than the man? That's why you pay your workers equally. I will try to use what I've learned when I make other comments on this topic.

  • I believe there are many issues with gender equality and the space industry which we must highlight before taking the next steps into space exploration. This is due to gender equality effecting everyone in the development of healthcare and businesses. I did not know about Sally Ride who was the first american woman to go to space in 1983 but I think it was apaling on how she was asked about her make up and whether she would cry rather than how she feels for such a grand achievement as well as how she came to this occupation to inspire young women to become astronauts. This is a clear example of the gender inequality and stereyotypes women face no matter their occupation or what they achieve. Space technology needs to improve for all as we have only just got space suits for women in 2019. So I believe we need to focus on gender equality and space exploration together.

  • And the whole of the world divorce person is so high , so the woman should depend on herself and Bill her career wish her hand . But in Egypt , the woman didn’t get opposition that have enough money to build a good future to her children when she is divorced but on other hand , when is the man is divorced it’s more easier for me to get enough money for his self and and his family because countries like Egypt and Saudi Arabia and and Palestine and this countries that in Islamic give him high position that give enough money . But Women when divorced in Egypt and Saudi Arabia and Palestine and this countries should Women show the struggle to build her career . Also , among the injustice that both are supposed to take care of children but the men can easily injustice that balls are supposed to take care of a children but the man can easily entertain themselves . But in Australia this countries when the woman was divorced. They make a cover money and education and learning for a children. I know this because there a woman that in my family is it married in Australia and divorced in Australia also and the government help her to take care for the children and say to the father to to take care for children, even if they can’t marry again . But in Islamic countries, they didn’t help the woman’s They deposit anything and this is not fair for women Thank you for listening.

  • Hello topical talkers,

I scored 8/8 and I was stunned by how women are treated and known to get less salary a month by a 24% difference between them and men which is a lot but not more than this fact : Around the world 95% of men from 25 to 54 years old are employed as only 52% for women which is not fair by any means. Thank you!

  • I got 8 over 8 I learnt that
Women are asked such questions means gender stereotypes was a big issue then than now. For example in Australia just 12% of workers are women in the construction industry. Also in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) women hardly even work because just 31% of women have a job.
Also most systems were designed for men for example NASA's all-female spacewalk in 2019 was canceled because the suits did not fit the women. I also saw a shocking news on the platform that 95% of men between the ages of 25 and 54 are employed while just less than 52% of women in the same age range are employed.
Another thing I learnt is that when a man does something new it will take a longer period of time for a woman to do it. For example; the first man traveled to space (Yuri Gagarin) on 12 April 1961 while the first woman (Valentina Tereshkova) traveled on 16 June 1963 which was after 2 years, 2 months 4 days. I also learnt there are somethings men do that it may not reach a woman's turn until years later for example 12 men have been to the moon while no woman have been to the moon yet. Another example is that only 100 women have been to space but 600 men have gone there.
What I conclude is that women should be given an opportunity to say their view they should not be pushed to a side and told not to speak.

  • I scored 7/8 some questions made me really surprised and now I can't comprehend how bad gender inequality.

Let's start with the question that stated what the interviewer asked her. She asked her about makeup,REALLY makeup, does everyone think all woman wear make up and masks that is really rude and she also asked if she cried,do all woman cry under pressure these expectations are getting out of hand. She could've and should've asked a question like how was the trip or did you discover something new or important etc.

Now let's move on to the question the second question that shocked me harder than a lightning bolt that had to do with the motherhood penalty it stated that mothers get paid 24% less because she is a mother? I understand their vision they think woman will pay less attention to their job if they have a child but woman have special quality that most men don't and that is multitasking most woman can juggle lots of problems like work and kids relationships all within a finite amount of time.

Now those were all of the ones I noticed between the bunch reply to me if you think I missed one :D .

  • I find it utterly ridiculous that women aren't viewed as suitable astronauts. One reason is because you don't need abnormal strength to become an astronaut. Although I'm not implying that women are weak, unfortunately the stereotype is that they are. Therefore, it eliminates that stereotype as to why women shouldn't be astronauts. On top of this, men feel more ill coming home from space and when landed, they have issues with vision and hearing. This is a problem women don't face. In space, you require a lot of intelligence too, and a study conducted by Roberto Colom and Francisco J. Abad has proven that there is so significant difference in intelligence between men and women. Overall, there is absolutely NO reason why women should be told they can't be astronauts just because the first people on the moon were men.

  • The space industry has always been a male dominated line of work. On the other hand the first woman went to space in 1963,however the space race started in 1955. This means 8 years passed without women being allowed into space. The average spaceman wage is £52k to £45k whereas the average space woman wage is £41k to£35k. This is a significant gap in pay. This must discourage and leave lots of women feeling despair. Taking that quiz I did not realise how much inequality there is around women. Considering women have to carry a baby for 9 months and most of the time the main provider for the baby taking into consideration of the price of baby carriers, cribs, nappies etc there should be no difference is anything not only jobs between men and women. In my opinion a man should have no right to be paid any more for doing the same job as a woman at the exact same level.

  • After completing the mini quiz to test my prior knowledge of gender inequality, I received a score of 100%. Something I learned while taking the quiz that I can apply to other topics regarding Topical Talk is that diversity is a strong suggestion, especially when correlating new technology with testing it's overall capabilities. This further prevents any kind of risk of having a biased side or opinion based on how the technology functions for a certain individual.

Gender inequality is very normalized in my country, but thankfully, many people are working to cease this prejudice circumstance. This circumstance regarding gender inequality has been prolonged for around 8,000 years. In specificity, there have been many policies and rules enabled in a variety of workforces, business, and corporations, mainly in the space industry. The space industry is male-dominated, only 20% of women make up the workforce. According to many news sources, only 1 in 5 space industry workers are women, therefore reiterating the stereotypical idea that women aren't capable of pursuing any careers involving space. Sally Ride is a clear representation of just how stereotypical individuals were and still are to this present day.

  • Women who work in the space industry, are helping to give equal opportunities for women and striving to reduce gender inequality.
20% of the people who are in the space industry workforce are women. They are disproving stereotypes that women can't handle physical demands, and women can't handle working in male-dominated environments.

  • Women who work in the space industry, are helping to give equal opportunities for women and striving to reduce gender inequality.
20% of the people who are in the space industry workforce are women. They are disproving stereotypes that women can't handle physical demands, and women can't handle working in male-dominated environments. Even with this knowledge, I have still learned a lot of new things when it comes to the space industry and gender inequality. I learned that women are paid 24% less, which is really unfair and needs to change. The test also taught me that Sally Ride was the first American woman in space in 1983. When she was interviewed, they asked her about what make-up she is bringing, if she would cry under pressure, and who would be doing the cooking in space. I feel like it was very offensive, but it could be a misunderstanding depending on if the interviewer asked the same thing to the men (without the make-up part). The last thing that I learned is that 95% of men who are ages 25-54 are employed, and only 52% of women aged 25-54 are. I am not sure why it is how it is, because women in the space industry proved that women are very much capable of doing what a man can do.
In conclusion, gender inequality is slowly getting solved by the women of the space industry workforce.

  • Gender inequality in space mirrors broad societal biases. While women have made contributions throughout the history of space exploration, for example, Dorthy Vaughan being a human calculator for NASA. Yet, women remain significantly underrepresented. This underrepresentation stems from a complex interplay of factors:
-stem fields being mainly male dominated, discouraging girls and women pursuing careers in these areas. This ingrained bias continues to influence other career paths such as education.
-the underrepresentation of women in prominent positions creates a lack of visible role models for aspiring female space professionals.
-unconscious bias can affect hiring, promotion, subtly favoring male candidates.
Overcoming gender inequality in the space industry requires a concerted effort from individuals to challenge existing biases, create more inclusive environments; such as the space industry, to advance women in this field.

  • Although I knew quite a bit about gender inequality within my society, I didn't know much about it within the space industry. In fact, this quiz actually informed me of new knowledge I had no idea about. I scored a relatively low score however I learned that mothers in the UK earn 24% less an hour than men but about Sally Ride's interview, only 52% of women globally are employed and that Dr Sian Leo Proctor was the first artist selected to go to space on the SpaceXInspiration4 mission. For some reason, it never crossed my mind that people other than those in the United States also faced the "mother penalty" within their work environment and society which is simply outrageous. I also didn't know much about Sally Ride. However, thanks to Topical Talk I learned more about her, especially her interview: how they asked her about stereotypical tropes like makeup, cooking, and crying. Things normally stereotypes to the "vulnerable" aspect of females. Furthermore, I knew that there were many countries in which women were still forced to do house related jobs throughout their lives, I had no idea the percentage of the workforce for women was that low, barely over half. A last thing I learned was about Dr Sian Leo Proctor. Prior to this quiz I had no idea who she was but now I know that she as an extraordinary women who managed to be the FIRST female spacecraft pilot on the SpaceXInspiration 4 mission. Although some of this was rather sad to learn, I thank Topical Talk for expanding my knowledge and views on the inequality women's face as well as the greatness they can accomplish.

  • It cannot be said with certainty that there is complete gender equality in Egypt ,but I want to look at the achievements that have been made to achieve gender equality from the positive side .
    * things like violence against women are illegal now ,and they've tweaked some of the marriage and divorce laws. * girls are going to school more specially in the younger grades, more girls getting an education.
    * Women are in politics there are women in parliament, but not a whole lot .
    * there's a women's movement and efforts to change how people see women and fight discrimination.
I believe that all of these positives ,along with the continued demand for women's rights, give rise to optimism that one day women will obtain full equality, because what has been lost is a right that is replaced by demands.

  • I think there is gender inequality in the space industry. Though rapid changes have occurred around the world, in India, children of lower-end families have their imagination of the sky limited to rocket launches and aeroplane take-offs. Here, people think women are not worthy of spending their whole life savings. They believe that at the end, she will get married and go far away. That's why the majority of our space research team consists of men, from the Chairman to the engineer. This mentality often leads to the next Shawna Pandya been hidden in a random family. One stereotypical measure in our military selection camps are that all of the physical requirements are set to that of men. My solution to this problem would be public events. India hosts nearly one and a half billion people. A large screen forecasting something in the evening is enough to gather a crowd. Public endorsement of space industry shall be made popular among students and parents. Now, for us, there should be chapters about inspirational stories of astronauts in our official textbooks. Some women astronauts, I grew up watching were Priyanka Chawla, a Indian origin women who unfortunately died in her space shuttle. Recently, Sunita Williams spent longest time in space exceeding more than 7 months. Thus just is an universal example that women can not only change the industry but they can leave behind men too. The barrier which separates women from space is the lack of enthusiasm and accessibility, two factors which can be conquered with a bit of courage and determination.

  • Hello topical talk,

I got 8/8 and it was really surprised how women were and still are treated and an example is : once they interviewed Sally Ride ( the first woman to go to space) they asked her about her make-up, crying and cooking in space. She also struggled with the space suits as they were originally designed for men.

Globally construction is one of the male dominated jobs, but in Australia 12% are women working, which is good but needs to change. for me this difference needs to change and equality must spread. Thank you!

  • Recently,In September 2024 , two women Anna Menon and Sarah Gillis made a remarkable achievement under The polaris Dawn Mission and flew 1400 kilometers above Earth, breaking the previous record which was set in 1966.
While we advocate challenges to gender equality, women's representation in various fields from heavy industries to space exploration has been ascending gradually. Over 600 people have voyaged to space, however only 100 have been women. These factual figures make us question the existing practices of society. Being in space doesn't rely on one's gender then why are we not giving equal opportunity to everyone?
Even though advancements have been made by women in space exploration. There is still work to be done to achieve true gender equality.
Organizations like NASA and ISRO are trying to promote diversity and inclusion in space exploration by following "Merit System Principles" and other steps.
But today's self reliant and strong women have shown us, that they are not far behind men.All they need is an opportunity.

  • I had a huge reaction about question number 3. Instead of the interviewers to ask her about how she got here, they expected her to be weak and bring makeup like a "normal" woman and the expect her to be weak and cry under pressure, and because moms have reputation about who will be the cooks as they expect the "normal" woman.
Also, in number 6, because of the male designed products, women felt uncomfortable or couldn't even fit, and I doubt they are improving the development of space suits to fit men and women.

    Thanks, Topical Talkers

  • Hello 👋 , in this quiz a lot of information about : gender inequality and the space industry . Example: Gender inequality is a problem for everyone. It affects the whole world , including families , businesses , health care and the planets potential for progress. Also , a study in the UK found that on average mothers earned 24 persntange less an hour than fathers in 2023 . Also , this is an example of the " motherhood penalty . " _ when women are unfairly because they are mothers . All information I don't know it .

  • Gender inequality affects everyone and we can see this across different fields. For example, in 2019, NASA's all-female spacewalk was delayed simply because spacesuits were originally designed for men. This shows how uneven something as simple as equipment design can create unnecessary barriers. The same happens in technology, women make up only 26% of the global AI workforce, which raises concerns about how AI systems are developed and who they truly serve. If we don't include diverse voices in innovation, we risk creating systems that can work better for some people than others. Shouldn't we be making sure new technology benefits everyone equally?

  • I scored an 8 out of 8, and I learned that space suits were designed for men which means that the suits were made with only men in mind, and women were simply thought of after making the suits. This also led to the all woman space walk being postponed for adjustments of the suit. however, I think women and men space suits would have been necessary to make at the very start so these issues would have never happened. What did you learn?

  • I scored an 8 out of 8. Some things about gender inequality I already knew was, men get paid more money than women do. I also knew that for a couple of jobs, most of the workers will be men. Another thing I knew about gender inequality before I did the lesson was that in the past women were not able to participate in certain sports. Something that I learned from the lesson was male led development. I learned that male led development is when things are made to fit a man. An example of this we had in the lesson is, the driver seat belt being sized to fit men because people expected men to be the ones driving. Another example is spacesuits. Space suits were made to fit men.
From the quiz I learned that male led development cancelled the women spacewalk because they couldn't fit the spacesuits. something else I learned from the quiz is that the most male dominated industry is construction, and that in Australia only 12% of construction workers are women. from the lesson and the quiz I learned about the motherhood penalty, And that the motherhood penalty is when women are treated unfairly because they are mothers. An example of this is mothers get paid 24% less than fathers.
Overall, I think that gender inequality is a big problem and more people should work towards fixing this. After doing some research, I found out over 70% of people think that gender inequality is a problem, but it is still a very big problem even though a lot of people are aware about it. I Think that if people work together, gender inequality would get better slowly but surely.

  • Well, I surely know that gender inequality is a worldwide problem. It isn’t just a problem that can be fixed quickly, It’s a problem that has been around for a very long time, and still hasn’t been fixed. But, looking back to the communist times, gender inequality has gotten much better, but is still sadly existent. For example, in the space industry, there are less women working that men. But, i’m glad that Dr Shawna Pandya is encouraging more women to perform jobs like her, and step foot on moon. She is encouraging women to be brave and do what job they want, no matter the stereotypes. She may become a model for many girls in future! And also, how many women have you seen working in construction industries and mining industries? Personally and sincerely, I haven’t seen any. I’ve ever only seen men working there. And also, babysitters. I haven’t ever seen men babysitters taking care of a child. Gender inequality has been a problem for many years, and still hasn’t been fixed. I’m not sure how long it will last, but I want to make sure it will someday be fixed.
    Thank you!

  • I got 1/8
Gender inequality is a global issue that affects everyone. A study in the UK found out that an average of 24% of mothers earn less every hour than fathers do in the year 2023. This is clearly an example of the "motherhood penalty," where women are treated unfairly. Naturally, they will not be happy with this situation. But, they have started achieving things they once thought were impossible. For instance, Sally Ride became the first American woman to go to space in 1983. When she was interviewed, she was asked about what makeup she would use, whether she cried under pressure, and who would do the cooking. Also, I learnt that space suits were initially designed without considering women but men only, this made it hard for women astronauts as of that time to use. It was only early this year that space suits for women were introduced to the world. Dr. Sian Lector made history as the first artist to go to space on the X Inspiration4 mission. She is also the commercial spaceship pilot and African American woman to be a mission pilot.
What I am saying is that the women astronauts should not be denied their rights by people because that would limit them physically and mentally. We do not want mentally limited female astronauts as part of the team now, do we? No so, we need to safely ensure that the women astronauts are never ever denied their rights.

  • In my opinion, gender discrimination is a colossal issue mostly seen in Arabic and Islamic countries, not only in space and technology but in fields like business, entrepreneurship, and many more. Moreover, women are treated unequally in these countries even if they get employed somewhere.

    1. I disagree because... gender discrimination can be found in more countries. For example, the United States of America, gender discrimination can be found in the US because some people may think that since females either is a single mom or a mom in general, they think that they are not capable to work in certain jobs. Also, some people may think that in America, females shouldn't go to work and should just say at home to cook or clean, which is what people expect women to do. In my opinion,I completely disagree with this statement. In addition,in space and technology there is only a very small amount of women working in STEM,which is very wrong in my opinion.Women are the same amount or even more capable to work at a STEM job than men. That is the reason why I disagree with this comment.

  • What I can say about gender inequality is that women are being mal-treated and are forced to do only domestic and house-hold chores, whereas, in the space system, it is only 11% of women that have been to space, and women in STEM, only 22% of them in a vital talent pipeline for the sector are there globally.
In another way, I think that females are the cause of their own problem because in some parts of the world, people does not tell them not to join in physical activities, like sports and games, which makes the mentality known to everyone that women does not like sports, and that is how it is all over the world, because they would think that females does not like sports, so they think that they cannot do manual work or withstand massive works.
In my suggestion, I think that females should be allowed to do work, and not only the male alone.
    Thanks,

  • Gender inequality is a global problem around the world that need to be solve. It is mostly done towards women, that is they make woman feel they can't be able to something even though they can do it. these problems for example, people think that astronut are for men only, but they did not think that women can also be an astronut until a lady who finally become an astronut therefore brake the thought of people saying that astronut is for men only. So, women in space industry are helping in the fighting of women right by providing and making an available of their importance and also the impact in the space industry and society or community.

  • Gender inequality is a huge problem that needs to be solved.
In our planet gender inequality has so problems with in it like the space industry. Astronaut Shawna Pandya is encouraging women to be strong and never to give up hope. I hope this problem of gender inequality gets better soon. at least women has done some good things in the society so they should be congratulated.

  • Gender inequality is a huge problem that needs to be solved.

  • what i know about gender inequality is that the girls, the women, the opposite gender of the men or boys are being treated differently for example my mum told me a story about herself when she was younger ,she said"when i was little my dad didnt let i and my sisters to go to school because we were girls " that is gender inequality not just that most at times the females are being looked down on and being doubted that they cant do anything better without knowing that what ever a man can do, a woman can do better. In the olden days when ever a woman gives birth to a female child her husband will keep complaining till she gives birth to a male child people then see boys as strong and a blessing but as for the girls they are seen as otherwise. I dont support gender inequality and i dont think someone with his right senses will not support this too

  • It’s unfair because men and women have a different pay rate and women get less then a quarter of the pay men get , men get a full pay rate but for the same exact job women

  • I know that gender equality is a massive problem all around the world. I think that women are most affected as they are paid less than men which is becoming more frequent so we need to solve this soon. Did you know that mothers earn 24% less than fathers globally? That’s almost a quarter! There are many things similar to this problem such as we know that only 6 to 7% of pilots are women, 26% of women work in the STEM industry and that just 12% of space explorers or astronauts or women. That isn’t the end though. As well as this, in Australia, only 12% of construction workers are female and 95% of men are employed but just 52% of women. This can’t stop happening so we must look at the problem and find solutions. This isn’t occurring in my country only but all countries around the world and I’m sure that women who are affected would agree with me.
There are also problems that have been solved but still have a big impact on our thoughts and in our actions. For example, space suits were originally designed for men so it was harder for women to do their researching and investigations in space as they were mostly too large. However, Stephanie Shierholz addressed the situation and are currently making new space suits that work for women. This proves that we can solve our problem of gender stereotypes if we have powerful people like Shierholz to help us do it. We can solve this, but it’s up to the world of whether we will.

  • I have heard that in some countries gender inequality is a very big problem so women and girls are not allowed to do things that men do like in some countries girls aren’t allowed to go to school and women are not allowed to drive. I think that mums should be paid just as much as the men because mums have more responsibilities and have to do double the work whether they are getting paid or not. Children are hard to look after as they need to be fead and clothed and washed.

  • Gender inequality is a recurring global issue not only for women but everyone around the world . This is when girls are thought to always like dance although a girl could like to dance you shouldn’t presume all girls do . Stereotypical traits like these are brought up to adulthood .
Think of a builder, are they male or female? Now think of a nurse, male or female ? because of this it is a big problem ,women are just as capable as men we should all be treated fairly when it comes to gender or anything else . That’s why when we are sending people to space they shouldn’t all be men give women a chance to go up to the stars .

  • Gender inequality is a huge issue in India. People in India find it surprising if a woman is an astronaut. Well, women make up around 20–25% of the employees at the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). However, there are no women astronauts at ISRO,which I think is a clear display of gender inequality.
Well, there is a great example of an incredible and brave woman of India who was the first Indian woman to go into space - Kalpna Chawla.
Kalpana Chawla faced many challenges in becoming an astronaut, including gender discrimination, cultural barriers, and academic pressure. She faced gender discrimination in the male-dominated field of aerospace engineering. But still she gained higher education despite all of these expectations and discrimination and went into space twice - in 1997 and 2003.
I hope all this ends soon not only in India but all over the world.

  • I got an 8 on 8 . I have learned a lot about gender inequality in the space industry. Gender inequality is a huge problem in not only India but all over the world, not only in the field of aerospace but in other fields too.
Here, I have some examples which clearly display gender inequality in the field of aerospace:

    1. Sally Ride- the first woman to go in space was asked during her interview that what make up she would be taking there. This example confirms about the stereotypical mindset of people.

    2. Space suits were firstly designed only for men which caused problems for women working in NASA.
Did people forget women also exist?

    There many other examples too.

  • First, I know that women cannot, be in certain positions. This is because of one thing: gender inequality. Gender inequality is a discrimination from one of the gender groups. For example, you're a woman that plays soccer you may not have the right size gear. This is because men are "more exciting\entertaining" so they get more important details in their gear. In addition, women are often not in construction or engineering cause the men think the women are not capable of doing it. Also, some women are moms, so she needs money for her children, but some jobs think since moms have children they're not going to work as hard, but it is the complete opposite. In summary, women are mistreated and should be treated with great respect.

  • Gender inequality is a very bad thing, and must be stopped. Gender inequality gives women less opportunity to do things they dream of. This includes, construction, science, engineering, and other jobs that men do. Women can't play sports either, due to them not having the same bodies as men. Seat belts also weren't made for women, and were instead tested with testing dummies, with the body of a man. Women who have children are paid less money because they believe that they won't be able to commit to the job completely while taking care of their children. Some jobs wouldn't even hire women with children because of this. This means mothers wouldn't be able to take care of their children. Back then, women weren't even allowed to vote, have divorces, or leave their own homes. Mothers are stereotyped to always be at home to take care of their children, while men go to work. Women aren't expected to raise males due to people thinking that they wouldn't understand what they may need, this is completely untrue. In my personal opinion, I believe gender inequality should be put to a stop, and women should receive the same respect that men do.

    Thank you for reading.

  • Hello Topical Talkers, today I learned about gender inequality and the space industry. Let me tell you what I learned. I learned that gender inequality was very immense which in my opinion is unacceptable. For example, mothers earn 24% less than fathers but mothers need more money so they can help their children thrive. Also barley more than half of women from the age of 25-54 are employed while 95% of men are. Another thing is that things like seatbelts, and spacesuits are made for men and not women which could lead to more women getting injured in a car crash or space. There are also jobs like construction workers that mainly have men do the work because they believe women aren't capable of doing the work. Those are some of the many things I learned in today's lesson.

  • I know that inequality is a big thing on earth and in space. Man led development, this means that something was designed for men and not women. For example Nasa suits were designed for men. They couldn't continue the mission in 2019 because the suits were not the right size for the women. Another example of women inequality is industries that people believe only men should do. Some of these industries are construction , mechanic , engineer, and all manual labor. A lot more men than mothers are employed. This is because a woman having children and having a job is sometimes not available for some women. Most jobs do not allow mothers to work there because they believe that they wont work hard , but mothers would work harder to support their children. People expect women to do the jobs men don't which is cleaning, supporting their partner and children. They have high expectations for men and not for women. Women in the space industry are finding solutions to these problems. They are finding ways to make men and women equal.

  • By answering these questions I have learned many things about this topic. I have also gotten a 8 out of 8 and a better understanding on the quiz. along with learning how certain jobs can exclude gender equality. I also do not believe in gender inequality, yet I believe there still should be some boundaries for both genders. Such as motherhood for mothers with newborn babies for example. If there is anything unlike that reason I stated then I believe that there should be gender equality inside of it even if it is a job or anything in general. Also gender inequality is not only for women, it is for all genders. Such as boys not being able to play with girl toys, type of stereotype. Which I would never approve of if it means someone can't be themselves and show their true identity. All in all, I disagree with gender inequality in most ways except to the part where it keeps people safe.

  • I know that women used to not be able to choose to divorce. And I also know that no women has ever set foot on the moon. But 12 men have. This to me is very unfair and not right. I think this is because some women can do things that most men can't do. For example, most men aren't good at gymnastics. But men still do it and women don't have a problem with it. Lastly, how can men do gymnastics and things that women are good at but women cant do the things that men can? This is a form of discrimination to me.

  • Gender inequality is unacceptable, like this is not fair. Most women are being treated differently then the men. For an example some women that play sports like basketball do not have a fair payment. For mens salary it is $200,000 all the way up to the millions. While women only get paid around $2,000-$60,000 that is a big difference between men and women, or like some jobs. Most women can't get these jobs because of their gender. Like if they have children and they have to miss some days.
In conclusion I made a 7/8 on my quiz and I think, women should be treated fairly more often.

  • What I learnt is that gender inequality is a huge problem! For women who just want the inequality to stop and see all genders as equal, sometimes you have to except that this is the world we live in. however we are very frustrated with the way women are treated! Event thought t has got better over the years (with WW2) it still is a massive problem throughout the world!

  • From my point of view gender inequality is a problem that we still suffer. Is a big problem because some jobs are associated to men for example the space industry. Any girl has gone to the moon, they have coontributed to some missions in space but only men went to the moon. I will like to see a woman who goes to the moon because I think all women will be proud. Gender inequality is a big problem but not only in the space industry also in some other jobs such as minery, craftship or pilots. I think is a problem we need to solve because many woman have demostrated that they are better in that jobs and they can have the same opportunities than men.

  • i think that when women become mothers its seen as they cant work hard enough now so they get a disadvantage or may even lose their jobs and in male dominated jobs its seen as women cant do it as well as men and its an opinion that its an unusual sight to see and this has been like this as for years and nothing has changed and is not being taken seriously. most women and girls aren't interested in some jobs because its seen as a male dominant job or they do show interest but have a fear of being judged i personally don't think there will be a change in the nearby future.

  • Truly gender inequality is a very big issue for all the countries and everybody is working hard to overcome that even the people in space industries are trying to stop gender inequality as in olden days there were only men who used to go on the space but in the 21st century many women have travelled space . In early days in India women were married at the age of 16-18 without even studying. But some women tried to stop this and even built schools for the girls . But still in the tribal areas women are not allowed to study and to learn different things just because some olden saints made a rule that women are only there for cooking and taking care of their family also the women in Dalit mean low caste society were more discriminated but with effort of great men and women caste based and gender inequality was minimised one example was that one time a lady named Rokeya Sakhawat Hossain was born in a rich family she knew how to read and write Urdu and was stopped from learning Bangla and English but she was determined ton learn new language so with the guidance of her brother and sister she learned English and Bangla and wrote a book Sultana's Dream in this book it was written that that two siblings traveled to a place called Ladyland where women were driving air cars and were scientists. So you can see that in India how people in 19th century women dreamt of flying air cars even before they started studying. So I hope that all the people will support women to make our world reach great height

    1. Interesting comment, thank you!

  • What I know about gender inequality is that it I a problem for everyone. When women does not participate in contributing ideas about a particular issue does not mean that is only men that knows the solution to the problem. And so I believe we have start looking on how to solve gender inequality problem through allowing women to become an Astronaut which sites a very good example of gender inequality been resolved in astronomical aspect.
I like seeing and also commending women who can actually perform a job that majority of people thinks it should only be done by men such as mechanical engineering, truck drivers and some other jobs. The reason why I must commend that is that I have this believe that women are somehow stronger than men in the sense that the rate of pain women survives is far away higher than the rate of pain men survives so if a woman who continues practicing how to become an astronauts and also undergoes some trainings, it means that they can actually become a good astronauts and control space crafts well without any mistake.
In conclusion, I think people ( especially men ) should stop underrating women because they feel inferior to them, let their voices be head and also, women should tell their self that "they can do it" and determine on that because practice draws closer to perfection.
    Thank you.

  • I think that gender inequality is problem for everyone in the world, so it need to be solved. So i think that women should not be discriminate because, in the world today, most people think that women cannot be an astronaut, but look at this woman katherine who figured out the paths for the spacecraft to orbit earth and to land on moon. NASA used her math and it worked. NASA sent astronaut into orbit around earth. Later, her math helped send astronauts to the moon and back. So what man can do, woman can even do more better of it.

  • I scored 8 out of 8 in the quiz. The quiz shows how gender inequality affects the society at large and women mostly. Gender inequality is a serious problem in the world today, I learnt that in the quiz that most of the production or manufacturing companies higher more men than they do of women. For example in some construction company they assume that men do more heavy work than that of women, which I know is not true. women can do the same work than men and even do it better. Women at least should be given a chance in the society to see what they can do before deciding that they can not do some jobs that men do. Women should not be treated less just because of their gender because every one is the same whether boy or girl, man or woman. Gender inequality can actually lead to protest by angry mobs and if gotten out of hand can actually lead to destruction of some properties owned by men. Gender inequality should be looked at by every body to know its negative effects on society. I believe that if everybody should work on gender inequality the problems that most people are facing because of it would not happen because at that point every body would be treated equally.

  • It’s honestly crazy that we’re still talking about these barriers in 2025. I remember that last year in school, I had a friend who was fascinated by space a lot, but every time she talked about becoming an astronaut, people would say things like, ‘That’s a tough field, especially for a girl.’ The fact that things like spacesuits and equipments weren't even made for female astronauts. This shows that they didn't even focus on giving equal opportunity to females. But it’s amazing to see female astronauts pushing the boundaries and proving that space industry as well as all fields should be for everyone. Their work is not only limited to space research but to set example and change people's mindsets and perspectives toward gender equality

  • 8/8 first try on the quiz

  • Women in the space industry are helping us discover more about the world and universe we live in. There has been 70 women that have been in space so far. The most famous being Sally Ride. Unfortunately there has been no woman to walk the moon to date. Gender equality has been a huge struggle in many countries woman not having rights both genders may do whatever they please if a woman wants to be a footballer she can , if a man want to be a stay at home parent they can gender should not define what you can and cant do with your life. After all you only live once.

  • I think that women should get the same money an hours as men. It is not fair that women are told what job they can and what job they can't do everyone should be treated the same. For example when you go on a road and you see men fixing the road do you see women . No because men are saying that the job is not made for women . Another example is when you go to the car shop to get your car fixed do you see women fixing a car. No And What I had learned is that women get 24% less than men an hour. And that is not fair . So I think that they should change that so everyone will be treated the same .

  • I think that jobs are not fair to women because when they try to get a job as a construction worker they won’t let them just because of their gender, but when they try to get a job at a store they don’t care what gender you are. Also some jobs don’t even give you a chance to show if you're good at the job. Some companies make things only for men when women need them to. Also jobs choose men most of the time because they think that men are stronger than women. Companies think that men are more capable of doing things than women.
Women with kids will be more willing to get a job because they have to feed them every day and pay for school.
Women should be treated the same as men.

  • I scored 7 out of 8 , and I learned that women are treated differently than men. I believe that women should be treated the same as men. One way that shows women being treated differently , is that women playing sports get paid less. For example an average female boxer gets paid $ 5,000 per fight which is a total of $ 25,000 -20,000 a year , while men get paid 10,000 per fight a total of $50,000- 40,000 a year . Another fact that proves my opinion is that 54% of sports are male and only 46% are female sports. While women could be stronger and smarter then men they still need to work hard just to get approved by many male ran jobs. For example Katherine Johnson was one of the smartest females and had to work very hard to get accepted. I believe the world should change the unfairness.

  • I think the way women are being treated is very unfair.Women are being pushed to the side like they don't matter.Space suits don't even fit.In 2019 a mission got canceled because the suits didn't fit the women astronauts. This is a major issue that needs to be fixed or something serious could happen.i think woman should be included in testing items like car safety, seat belts, and space suites.its very unfair because women are expected to cook, clean, and watch over kids but they still get told they don't do enough. They are getting told what jobs they can and cant have.I think we should all just be treated the same, looked at the same ,and given the same chances and respect men have because we all deserve it .

  • I scored 8/8 on the quiz. What I know about gender inequality and the space industry is that women weren’t treated fairly like men.It was unfair how they couldn’t have manly jobs or the job they wanted.I learned some women want to work for jobs that men don't think it is fit for them while others may be fine with their job or may not even have a job.My opinion is that women should be allowed to do jobs like construction, plumbing, mining, engineering, and more. While only at least 52% of women are employed. Most construction sites only have men.My second opinion is that not all women like to do jobs that involve probably what they already do at home. They may want to work at construction sites but men probably won’t allow them to work there because they may think they can’t do it or they think they’re weak. In conclusion, gender inequality needs to stop.

  • Gender equality is not fair to all people in the U.S.A. during the 1800s women rights were denied and they could not vote or work and anything they had done the government would try to hide it and give men the credit. After recent research most products in the world are meant for men. Women with children have it harder because people think they will get distracted with their child. So I think women should be equal to men without being looked down upon.

  • Today we learned about gender inequality and its effect on women's pay, chances to get a job, and many more, and I will be stating my opinion on it. Today women are having a hard time trying to get a job and I think it should be fixed and or stopped as soon as possible, the way I see it, women are getting tucked under the rug because they either think women aren't capable of getting a job if they have children because they already have enough responsibility over their child and that they can't do both. This is a really tragic way to not let women have jobs that they think women can't comprehend, this should be stopped immediately.

  • I believe women can do anything a man does because women are as capable as men are. . They also get treated differently in jobs like some sports , construction , technology etc. In Australia , only 12% of women are in the construction industry . This shouldn't happen because women are just as able to do things a male can do. I also believe women get paid less than men. I say this because in the NBA they get way more of a payment than in the WNBA . This is very unfair because whatever a man can do a woman can also do. These are the reasons why I believe women and men get treated way differently.

  • I believe that women can accomplish way more than men, I don't think people should be against women. In my opinion women achieve more and work harder when they have children , because they have more responsibilities. Other people won't let them work , They believe that they don't work as hard. women are treated unfairly Beacuse 2x more men get job's then women. people think that women cant do heavy duty jobs like men, because they believe there weak. women can achieve more than what you think.

  • What I know about gender inequality

I know that somehow women's soccer is less rough than men's soccer or regular soccer. Women that are employed get paid 24% less than men.
And that 95% of men are employed but only 52% of women are employed.

I Honestly feel like that's unfair how more men are employed instead of women. Though, for the women that want to work, they should get paid equally like the men that are working, that would make gender inequality at least better then before when women couldn't get jobs and it was hard to vote.
I wish that women could actually get jobs in the space industry, or just get employed.

All of the above is what I would do and how I think about gender inequality, thank you for reading my response about gender inequality.

  • I have scored an 8/8. I have learned that gender inequality is taking over the world. One thing that was bad is the reporter asking what makeup she uses and if she cries under pressure. The main thing for gender inequality is that the world has made women not work or refuse them jobs. I learned that some of the women that have been to space are, Sally Ride, Valentina Tereshkova, and so on. Something that I already know is Mae Jemison was the first colored woman in space. This is all I have learned about the gender inequality in space.

  • What i've learned about gender inequality.
I learned that gender inequality is a problem for everyone it is an unfair treatment towards people. Sally Ride was the first American woman in space she was also interviewed and asked about what make up she would be taking whether she cried under the pressure and who would be doing the cooking this is just one of the unfair stereotypes. Construction is one of the most man worked jobs. Space suits were actually designed for men which caused a problem in NASA's all female space walk which to me proves that people should think of women too. My opinion is that women are just as important as men or maybe even more important in some cases.

  • I know a lot about gender inequality, it means women are treated wrong. I think this is wrong and should have been changed in the past. Some people still treat women unfairly which I do not like and other probably do not like. I think that we should all change if you have not already. We should not discriminate each other based off of our genders. Also the space industry should have more woman, there is a low percentage of women in the space industry. In my opinion it is not the space industry's fault, I think woman just didn't participate. This is my opinion, what do you think and why? I would love to read your answers.

  • I know that Nasa suits were made for men. I also know that the first woman ever to be in space was 1963 although the space race started in 1955 this information tells me that for 8 years women weren't allowed in space. Gender equality has been a huge problem in many countries. On June 16, 1963 Soviet Cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova became the first woman to travel into space. In conclusion, I can see the importance of gender equality here in on Earth and when exploring Space.

  • The rights of women are not on par with the rights of men. In the UK women are not getting paid the same as men, there is a lot of men development which means inventions only go for men and completely ignore the fact that women exist, for example spacesuits, they were built just for men and became a problem in the future because it was manufactured for men which led to a cancellations of missions. I know that women are not at the same level of rights like men, women have such an unfair life because they are so limited compared to men, yes women have much more rights now days but yet still not the same as men.

  • I had got an 8/8, but what really shocked me was that the interviewers had the audacity to ask Sally Ride about "what make-up she would be taking, whether she cried under pressure and who would be doing the cooking in space". I don't understand how people back then saw women as "weak" and "fragile". If they would have asked me this I would have been completely mad. I find very unfair the stereotypes that women had to face back then, and still to this day. And to make matters worse I am pretty sure that the interviewers knew that astronauts do not really cook in space since their food is specially prepared before being sent to space. It just really shocks me what people said back then in relation to this stereotype.

    1. I agree because if women keep being stereotyped i would say that the world will be in danger of women celebration days and they will be danger of gender inequality increasing in the world.

  • I know that women being in forms of space industry like nasa is a really big step.. it always has been. take Katherine Johnson, for instance. she was the first black female to work at nasa, and it was an incredible step. she faced a lot of hardships and still stayed at her job, and helped neil armstrong! i think even though the space industry is a hard business to get into, especially form women, women who do it are very strong and powerful.

  • I scored a 7/8 it's pretty shocking to me how gender inequality can travel anywhere and is also an issue in space which is definitely not good for society, it's gasp worthy how global gender inequality is and how it can affect both men and women although due to studies women suffer about 4x more than men do with gender inequality and is a very shocking how common and global gender inequality is that it can stretch to even space. Gender inequality is an overall huge problem that needs lot of solving which generally isn't good for any community, it is a huge issue on pay, stereotypes, male-dominated work, and even as far as products for and by men. With knowing all of this and reviewing the right answers and calculating the statistics of gender inequality it would take a very longtime to bring equalness for genders in every country. If that is the case then gender inequality still has major improving to do especially with how common it is everywhere, even in workplaces, or even at home.

In conclusion gender inequality has been stepped too far and it will take a while to reverse it back the way it was and bring down at least half of it in every country and even in space. This is harmful to every community man or woman, and this has caused many issues throughout many years even way back in the 1900's. So, I believe that it'll take a lot for gender inequality to die down, but it definitely is possible as long as every community is contributing to this major issue with gender inequality, even in space.

  • In my own view gender inequality can be defined as the act where a boy or a girl is treated less fairly to the other especially the female ones who they believe are less useful to the society and they believe that they deserve to be in the kitchen. All this are wrong and can be classified as gender inequality.
    THANKS.

  • gender is not the matter after all because gender affect some people in some countries does not means that it will affect other countries like UK(united kingdom). it's not fair for women to stay at home and do house chores while men are forced to go to work like engineer and mechanic. I am here to say men and women are equal. I know in space industry men was the first and in 1983 a woman named Shawna Panday says nothing should push us back that we should keep trying and never give up so gender does not matter.

  • In my opinion gender inequality is a huge problem.I say this because men think women aren't good enough to do certain jobs.Such as construction work. And one of the most important jobs is being president. This is a very important job and really inequality because not a single president has been a female. That's why most people voted for Trump in the 2024 election.
Also most women get fired from their jobs and get replaced with a man. Most jobs do this because they think women aren't capable of getting work done. But women can be more useful than men.And it's better to have two hands than one. That's why i think men are unfair. And that's why i think its unfair for women to have jobs.

  • I do know about the stereotypes in women and men, and people saying that women can't do sertain things and men can't do sertain things like men do consrutsoin and i think girls can do it aswell. Also i heard that when women go to space they have to wear already used or warn clothes that men had used already. I think that they definetly have to upgrade that

    1. Hi, courageous_snow. Thank you for your comment, which makes some interesting points. You mention that women astronauts have to use worn men's clothes. Could you share your evidence for that claim?

  • What I know about gender equality is that people are saying that women and men cant do certain things for example women cant play football and men cant do ballet which is not fair because we can be anything we want. Something that really shocked me was something called The motherhood penalty which is unfair treatment to mothers and they get less pay because they look after children which means it is hard to get jobs to provide for there child. The space industry are trying to get more women interested in becoming an astronaut or working with space which is a huge improvement to society

  • Gender inequality is when someone assumes someone does something or is doing something because of their sexuality, for example some people believe boys can't wear dresses and girls can't play football which is not true bu ancient beliefs have triggered this way of belief. Women are especially targeted in this category because a lot of woman would like to do male- dominated tasks like being an astronaut, construction worker or engineer but this is not possible because woman are thought to stay at home and do house chores . So how can we solve this problem? We ought to encourage woman to have a voice, make space suits suitable for woman and girls, and let us have a more open mind. If we are this diverse this could tackle sexism and other issues based on your culture, religion, race and sex.

  • This amrican woman was first woman in space and the year was in 1858

  • I loved the quiz because it was a bit of a challenge for me even thow I know the answers to the quiz.

    1. Can you tell me what you learned from the quiz?

  • Equality is just a 8 letter word but it has a deep meaning . Equality does not only means to give right but it also means to give equal opportunity to everyone. But we fail to provide this Equality to women's all over the world. Women's are forced to do household chores and works like taking care of children and elderly people . Women's are not provided with equal chances to showcase their talent in front of people. They are captured between the four walls of their homes. There is no security for them in the world. Many companies also hire more number of males as compared to females. Females have to try very hard fight with the society to come up as an independent women. In my opinion everyone should be given same opportunities despite their gender. Women's are the most important part of everyones life. Human life begins with their mother who is a women so we should respect every single women. Also as in the space women can also prove themselves. There is a very beautiful quote that women's have reached great heights in their life and can also travel through the space. Kalpana Chawla is a very important example of this who survived her life through many difficulties but went to space and found many new gravels over there.
At last I would just like to say Respect every woman .

  • The population of women in space is kinda shocking to me. There is barley any women in space the industry is low on women. I don't think that it is space companies's fault. It is really about who participates at the same time, it can be the people who gives you an interviews fault. For example if you were going to a space company interview then you have good things about you only but you are a female and they don't hire you it could be just because your a female. I think another reason why is because some men tell women not to join space industries. This is my opinion, what do you think?

  • I scored 4 out of 8 and I think that male led designs are unfair because women are people too and they deserve the same kind of treatment every one else does. Because if a woman wants to be an astronaut and be safe while doing it they won't be able to. And what about seatbelts? If you hit a hard stop in a car you could fly out without the right size and shape they won't be safe ! everyone is in danger if we don't treat everyone fairly. In the 1950s police came slower if a crime happened in a black neighborhood. In conclusion I think we should treat everyone fairly.=\

  • Gender Inequality is a big deal. I hate the way people talk to other people based off their gender. In my opinion, everyone should be treated the same way, no matter their gender. Everyone is the same, they may not have the same body, but we are all human beings. In conclusion, my opinion is Gender Inequality is a big deal.

  • I know that Gender inequality is a big thing for both genders but mainly women.

Even though this is a small thing, I feel like it isn't fair how a girl's favorite color can be blue or something but if a man's favorite color is pink then it is a problem.

Now for the females I feel like it isn't fair how people always assume that women can't do the things that men do. Kamala Harris had things planned for women rights but we didn't get to experience what she had for us because she was a woman and we have never had a woman as a president.

Another thing is that the space industry should make astronaut suits in different sizes instead of making them only big which only the men can fit.

This is what I feel about gender inequality.

  • In mexico, the space industry is something that is not quite mentioned in global media, but something that is seen is the dimension of sexism going around in the country. It is heavely known that Mexico is a male dominated country, with all male billionaires, all male construction workers, and (until recently) all male political figures. In mexico the idea that the male should be doing the "hard work" and the women the "gentle and emotional" is extremely strong. This due to many reasones, one being the overwhelming amount of religious criteria; for example: in mexico "La Virgen de Guadalupe" (Virgin Guadalupe) is an extreme force in the civils values. She is such an important staple that people dedicate a day to walk from their houses to the basilica by bare foot. Now, the virgin is a female right? Although discrimination towards women is very present in Mexico, the idea that the mexican women is hardworking is huge, religion also reinforces this with the Virgin of Guadalupe. Now these concepts colide with Katya Echazarreta, the first mexican woman that traveled to space. She has worked for NASA (Mars 2020 rover and Europa Clipper) and now has a whole foundation open for all ages, all genders, where she makes space learning accesible in mexico. As a woman, she sets the oportunity for girls, and all, to keep learning and demolishing the sexist ideas the country reaches. And like the Virgin of Guadalupe, Katya has had an influence in re-defying the stereotype of women not being strong, and powerful, to them being more than that. Different subjects, yet important to mexicans!

  • It's truly inspiring to see women in the space industry pushing boundaries and challenging the status quo. Their determination and passion are not only advancing space exploration but also paving the way for future generations. I'm grateful for the trailblazers who are breaking down barriers and for the organizations that are supporting and empowering women in space. It's heartening to see women taking on leadership roles, working on cutting-edge projects, and inspiring others to pursue careers in STEM fields. From astronauts to engineers, scientists to technicians, women are making a significant impact in the space industry. Their contributions are a testament to the power of diversity and inclusion, and a reminder that everyone deserves an equal opportunity to reach for the stars. As we continue to push the boundaries of space exploration, it's essential that we create a more inclusive and equitable industry that reflects the diversity of our society. By doing so, we can unlock the full potential of the space industry and create a brighter future for all.

  • In my perspective , gender inequality is a problem we can solve by using our critical thinking to come up with ideas. One idea to adjust this gender inequality is we should include things for both genders. For instance, models are usually females instead of males because people think males should do construction instead of modeling. This is a stereotype, another example is about physical looks. Males shouldn’t have long hair, or females have super short hair according to people. But this doesn't affect them in any way. We should allow others to express themselves with gender equality.

  • I know that the lack of gender equality has been a problem around the globe for years, for example now in 2025 women have more house jobs and are told that this is for men or boys and that boys are stronger than girls or women.Another thing is that women that have kids and want to be in the space industry are less likely to be able to join. As the industries stereotype them and think they will be more worried about their kids rather than work. Dr. Shawn Pandya has proved this wrong; she has children and still works in the space industry even though it took her a while to get where she is today. Also, Mae Carol Jemison was the first African American women engineer, physician, and former Nasa astronaut to travel in space. She started women's history in space. Katherine Johnson was also an important woman in space history; she studied how to use geometry for space travels . She was also one of the first African American women to work at NASA as a scientist. I believe that gender inequality has improved since the 1950s but it could be so much better around the globe too.

  • Well, I live in Mexico and I would say that it is a big problem here because machismo is very widespread and above all, machismo is linked to the old school, to the traditional, which is why many conservative families continue to live in a macho way, for example, not letting women work and having them take care of the children or the home, that is, cooking, cleaning and so on. And in some cases, men beat their wives when they don't do their chores well. And Mexico has a lot of feminicides. Here is some data that I found (In 2022, 968 cases of feminicide were reported, an increase of 127% compared to 2015) and on the subject of the space industry, I don't know much, to be honest, but I know that the majority of astronauts are men, as in most jobs. Here is some data that I found on the internet about gender inequality in the space industry. Women make up 20-22% of the space industry workforce.
Women have less access to leadership and management positions.
Women are over-represented in part-time or temporary contract jobs.
Women are under-represented in technical and scientific roles, such as research and engineering.

  • In my country, America there are many problems including gender inequality. And many other problems stretch beyond, but I say it's not fair as we cannot make things without a woman's perspective. As proven that only ages of 24-25 of men have a job, but only 52 percent of women do. Further within this can lead to many other problems like the motherhood penalty as many are unemployed for motherhood. But women like Dr. Sian leo Procter and many more embrace themselves as women and encourage others to follow their dreams. These women work in the space industry, Also they show that women can do many male dominated things and that not everything is made for men. What can we do without a women's perspective, And thought process on how to do and design on things. Nevertheless I think that gender equality is a huge problem globally and needs both women and men to help.

  • We believe gender equality is still a huge issue - women feel intimidated by male dominated industries and this puts them off applying or working there, in our world now a days this should not be such an issue - there needs to be more down to improve this problem - maybe around recruitment and advertising.

  • Gender inequality is still a massive problem worldwide, although many countries have heavily progressed in closing the pay gap and we begin to see more women in more male dominated industries there are still many countries that are behind.
Seeing more women as astronauts is empowering and important for younger generations; the more women we see as astronauts, the more young girls that will aspire to be one. It's important that young girls have more role models in male dominated industries as women will not want to work in a job they cannot see themselves in.
Women that have children being astronauts show more women that they don't have to give up on their dreams after they have a child. It is possible to be a mother and an astronaut in unison.

  • Women have less access to leadership and management positions withing the space sector, a trend that reflects a structural inequality not only in this fielf, but also in most science and technology related sectors. This reflects the inequality that exists between men and women. This problems is improving in many fields, but specially in the space and technology field, there is still a noticeable gender gap

  • 6/8
Gender inequality is a very important problem in the wold. It is true that, sometimes, there are things that men can do more easily than women (or the other way around) but that doesen´t mean that women cannot do it too.
What we have seen is the diferences between women and men in the space. For example, until 1963 no women had been on the space, wile three years before was when the first men went to space (and they only sent one) . Another example is that there are only one African-American woman who has gone to space.
As this there are lots of examples (and not only about space) that shows how far women are from achieving full equality. Now the question is, what are we going to do to solve this?

    1. I disagree because there has been more than 1 African-American women that has gone to space. There have been four.
First there was Mae Carol Jemison, secondly there was Stephanie Wilson, thirdly there was Joan Elizabeth Higginbotham and lastly there was Jeannette Epps who has just went last year.
To answer your question, the women in space are the ones doing something about it. That is what is being done. And from them, other people are being inspired to do more.

  • Gender inequality is a preference treatment between the make and female gender. It is having the mindsets that one of the gender should be given more rights, opportunities and resources or even connections in all aspects of life.
It also has an effect such as
    1. It is to discrimination and preference.
    2. It does not give room to uncovers one's potentials.
    3. It can curtail a person's human rights.
    4. It exposes an individual to dangers since the person has been isolated and must have lost his or her self esteem.

  • I got 6/8. I learnt how gender equality persists in the space industry, women are still not getting their well deserved opportunities to step in the same boat as men. All this is really unfair, I believe women are more than just capable to acces the field of space exploration. After understand this topic, the first person who came to my is this one Indian female astronaut that became an insipration for many females, Kalpana Chawla. She is the FIRST woman of Indian origin to fly to space! She overcame the gender barrier and got just the right people who supported her to achieve her ultimate success. Late Kalpana Chawla continues to encourage many people who also want to fly to space and I strongly believe role models can help more women to involve in space industries!

  • I know that gender inequality is a huge problem in some countries the women are forced to stay home, cook, and clean, and are forced to stay home with children. They are also denied work at some places because "it's a mans job". But it's the same with men but opposite they are forced to work and provide.

  • What I know is that motherhood penlty effects almost every mother around the world if you don't know what that is its pretty much that mothers working certain jobs they would get paid less and sometimes just for being a woman you would get paid less than men but I know if jobs provided mothers with paid baby sitting or the same amount of pay as men mothers lives would be better.

  • When I was doing this quiz I learned that only a few percentage of women but 94% of men have jobs. Not only that but women have been earning 24 percent less in their salary. This just shows how much of an impact gender inequality has on people. Not only for women but sometimes for men. Also,People think that women are "less hard working'' Even though if they sometimes don't have jobs they will most likely be at home, taking care of kids, washing dishes, cleaning rooms, changing the babies diapers Etc.They are working at home while people are saying women are less hard working and saying ''This job is for men you cant work here!''This is just another example of how much of an impact gender inequality can have on women or men.

  • Gender inequality is suffered by both female and male

  • I scored 7 out of 8 and I learned that gender Inequality is a very serious thing in the space industry and world wide. so far only four black women have been to space and the fourth woman Jeannette Epps, was on space on March 4 2024- not a very long time ago. But there have been 299 men in space and twelve who have been on the moon. Women in total have been just 100 in space. Not a small number but still unfair when regarded to men not to mention that no woman has ever walked on the moon. That is very unfair. Only 22% of women are in NASA. Women deserve to be given as much opportunity as men. People believe that women are the 'weaker sex' and get tense under pressure which is not true. Some women are stronger than men physically and emotionally.
However, the women in the space industries are making a huge difference now. They are proving those stereotypes and unfair expectations wrong. They are also stopping those male dominated industries and most importantly, they are inspiring young girls to follow their dreams without caring about what other people think. It is women like Wu Zeatin, Serena Williams, Mae Carol Jemison and Jeanette Epps are the women who has made history by fighting to stop gender inequality and these are people to be looked up to.

In conclusion, gender inequality is a very bad and serious thing and should be looked into and stopped. The women in the space industry are really a big step for the world.
    THANKS

  • One of the gender equality events that happeded were Katherine Johnson when she was hired for NASA. She was only hired for only math not engineering or more NASA jobs. Because they thought women couldn't do jobs that required more work and strength. But women can do all that men can do.

  • Gender inequality is one of the most known problems between men and women today most of the men in the world today and most of the women or even young girls can do some things men can not do so I say that it is best for women to also participate also .

  • I know and beleive that there is s strong relation between gender inequality and space industry. This is because women are suppressed even in this sector and are compared less worthy of the opportunities to become an astronaut or have any other major role in the space industry than men. Many women attain knowledge and skills and want to pursue their career in this field but are offered less oportunities.Whenever any women are given jobs in the space sector or any industry most the given factors take place in the form of inequality and discrimination -
    •They are paid less
•They are less likely to pursue growth in the sector.
•They might be considered less notable compared to their male colleagues.
Many of these factors show women inferior to men.
I also feel that the hardworking and determined women are also not supported or appreciated by many people. But this can be changed by setting examples and showing extraordinary growth in the space industry by women. For eg in my country,India astronauts like Sunita Williams,Kalpana chawla have set an outstanding example which motivates many women individuals and makes them have interest in this sector.
To conclude i feel that there is inequality for women even in the space sector and thud can be changed by promoting women and appreciating their equally respectful work

  • For me i think gender inequality should stop an d also the parasail treatment given to women in most of this works done today so I suggest that inequality must stop an d the same treatment should be given to the same gender .

  • I scored 8 0ut of 8 in the quiz and learned a lot of things of how women help in the space industry. These days women are restricted from job opportunities all because of gender inequality and that isn't fair. Because of this, 22% of job opportunities are given to women. But these days the place you can find women sometimes is in their homes doing their chores, cooking and so on. Mae Carol Jemison was the first African American woman to go to space and DR Sian "LOE proctor" was the first poet and artist on space who went to space to fufill her dreams. from what I heard in NASA women are given more job opportunities than men and which is also a worldwide problem.
In conclusion gender inequality is not only about women problems it is a worldwide which should be stopped so that everyone can be equal, so we should find a way to solve this global problem. THANKS

  • I got a 6/8 on the test. In my opinion women should be treated just the same as men. Even if they look different they still should have the same rights as men. It is almost the same as segregation because its all about stereotypes. Many people think that all women are weak and super sensitive. Lots of people believe that all women can do is cook and clean like in the movies which is NOT true. Lots of women can do the same things men do.

In the past women didn't have the same rights as men. They weren't allowed to buy property, sign contracts, or vote which is really unfair for them. But they fought with their words and got those rights as well. So now we just have to do the same thing so men and women can truly be equal.

In the space industry there are mostly men It's the same thing with many other jobs. That's why space suits were originally made for men so when women try them on they can be a little too big because men have bigger shoulders than women and sometimes men are taller. So if they only made space suits for the average male human then women would not be able to fit in it. And many people including women plan on being astronauts when they become older so if we don't make changes fast their dreams might not come true.

For the reasons I listed above I think men and women should be treated the same as equal.

  • The things I know about gender inequality is that many women dream for jobs in the space industry. Some women don't go because there are not many women in space jobs that are noticed for them to be inspired to be in that field. The lack of women for many jobs has decreased the amount of requests to get hired for women. One example is that in the records only 70 women have ever been to space. In our lesson today we learned that women only earn 24% of what men earn when they work. Right now 26% of the women are stay at home moms because of the lack of jobs that are suitable for women, 4.1% of women are jobless/looking for jobs. In conclusion not many women are working in jobs or working compared to men.

  • What I know about gender equality in space is that the people who invented the space or astronaut suits only designed it to fit on men's bodies but not woman bodies so that is gender equality.

  • Gender inequality refers to how non equal rights to opportunities for example that is a men under women working in same company and in a same post they to work for 8 hours the women gets the salary of only 70% of the salary of men they think that they are low that is women or low they need to do other work so they won concentrate and men are high mostly womens are being treated badly in this gender inquality, and gender inequality is high in space industry for about 30 years only 20 to 30 percentage only of women are working in space industries in the most of the space industries we are not able to see women leaders they are few only more and more opportunities should be given for women to join space industry like schools and college training for space education program.

  • Gender inequality is a big problem in many parts of the world, and it happens when women are expected to stay at home, do chores, cook, and take care of the kids, while men go to work as farmers or engineers. This doesn't seem fair because both men and women should have the same chance to work and also share taking care of the kids. Just like in the space industry, where women are doing amazing things but still face challenges, everyone, no matter if they’re a man or a woman, should be able to do whatever they want—whether it’s working in space or sharing family responsibilities. Gender shouldn’t decide what we can or can’t do!

  • I learned that a study in the UK found that on average mothers earned 24% less an hour than fathers in 2023. It's a very good example of gender inequality. This situation should not exist because I think women and men are equal. I have also learned that Sally Ride was the first American woman who went into space. It's a big step forward the place of women in our society. I already knew the domain of construction was one of the most male-dominated industries globally but I don't understand why because everyone should practise the job they want. I have also learned that across the world 95 percent of men between the age 25 and 54 are employed but just 52 percent of the women the same age are employed. I find that unthinkable to say that women are unable to take care of their children and to work. On this quiz I just have 4/8 because I didn't think there were so many inequalities in the world.

  • On the 16th june 1963, a russian women (I can't remember her name) made 48 orbits in space on the vostok 6, making her the first female astronaught. In my humble opinion, the Soviet Union was superior in to most other countries at the time in championing equal rights for men and women. The Bolsheviks gave women the same civil rights as men. This increased the efficiency of the workforce. The soviet union promoted women as powerful members of society using propaganda. Despite this, the some sources claim that the gender pay gap between women and men in the soviet union still resulted in women earning less on average than men for doing the same job.

  • Through the quiz I was shocked to find out that a qualified, well educated , respectful woman like Sally Ride who achieved a great milestone by establishing women in space was asked such a stereotypical question about her "make - up" , "cooking responsibilty" and "crying under pressure " on the national TV. Whats even more hysterical is the fact that "Blue eyed perfect face and smile " or even a soft, tender and delicate body are the unrealistic yet stereotypical expectations and boundaries set by the society that compels women to morph themselves in order to fit in and make them feel even more insecure. While expectations are mounting astonishingly , the rates of inequality in wages is increasing . According to a report by UN Women for every dollar a man earns for a job , a woman on the other hand , who does the same job, is paid only 77 cents out of it. And in countries like South Korea , gender pay gap is of a shocking 31.2% and this number is even worse for women with disabilities, those who are displaced or of a different race.
Whatever might be an individuals race, caste or even gender, for the work they do they put their hearts, souls and time into deserve an equal salary. In this scenario I feel that if we neglect women's right to equal pay and opportunities the industries would soon be incapable of generating useful and inclusive materials. If we try to snap of the wings of a flying woman with aspirations, dreams and the will to change the world we are truly robbing off a great talent and personality of future.

  • I know a lot about the gender equality and the space industry because it is a huge problem in India. It is considered surprising in India if a woman wants to join or has joined the space industry. The space industry has always been male-dominated, with gender inequality affecting women's representation in the workforce, leadership roles, and technical fields. NASA's Artemis program announced in 2021, aiming to land the first woman on the moon by 2025, marks an important step, but gender disparities persist. Only 16% of NASA's aerospace engineers are women, and UN Women reports show significant wage gaps and fewer leadership opportunities for women in STEM.
I think it is really unfair and some action should be taken so that women can get justice, fair opportunities and equal rights.

  • Gender inequality remains the significant issue in many industries including space exploration historically the space sector has been dominated by men with women often underrepresented in technical, leadership and astronaut roles. According to NASA only about 11% of its workforce consists of women with event fewer in senior roles, in terms of astronauts only 15% are women, a stark contrast to the growing presence of women professionals in other fields however women in the space industries are increasingly playing pivotal roles in challenging and changing this dynamic. Female astronauts like Sallly Ride the first American women in space and Peggy Whitson who holds the US record for cumulative time spend in space, have paved the way for future generations today companies like space x and NASA are making strikes by actively recruiting and promoting women in STEM feels the European space agency {ESA} recently appointed its first female Astronaut commander and women are taking on leadership positions in private space exploration forms like blue origin and Boeing, they work includes both technical innovations and advocacy for diversity driving to ensure equal access to opportunities and resources for women space science and engineering by mentoring young girls advocating for equal pay and breaking down institutional barriers women in the space industry continue to challenge gender norms and promote an inclusive, diverse future for space exploration their contributions not only address gender inequality but also enhance the fields overall Innovation and success.

    Thank You.

  • I scored 7 out of 8 in the quiz but the important thing is what I learned. I learned that gender inequality is everyone's problem not only women because I thought it was women's problem only. Also mothers earn 24% less hour than father and that is unfair because no one is better we are like each other. I didn't know that In Australia 12% of women work and 88% doesn't work but people think wrong because women have to work and have their own career.

  • In my opinion, gender inequality is an issue that plagues our society (both men and women) as it simply makes humanity less efficient. At its core, women can do most tasks that men can do (bar some physical limitations) but men simply put, have hogged the global limelight. Now, why is that? Well, I believe it comes down to primal instinct. Back in the old days of humanity, strength was all that mattered, and men had more physical strength than women, so, the stereotypes began developing. Old Biblical tales began fueling inequality. For example, Eve was created by taking a rib from Adam. All prophets are men. See? Inequality isn't just a case of greed. It's moreso a case of human incompetence and lack of understanding.

But inequality isn't just for women. In many countries, conscription isn't mandatory for women and it is for men. All women's programs seem like a backwards step. We went from all men's-programs, to all women's programs. How did that fix anything? We just changed the branding of the inequality. Inequality is still inequality. It's like opening up opportunities for black people and ONLY black people. That's racism but you just changed sides.

Advocating for only-women's organizations is impossible to do fairly. So, in my eyes, we should have equal opportunities for both men and women. Women don't get to have exclusive access but men don't dominate. If more men apply at a job, then that isn't inequality. It's when both a man and a women that are equal, but the man is picked because he is man. That is true inequality and that, I think we can fix.

  • Hello 👋
Now are you let you know about agender inequality .?
Gender inequality has been a persistent issue in the space industry, affecting areas such as astronaut selection, leadership roles, funding, and STEM education. We have many more information like 1-Historical Barriers:
In the early days of space exploration, women were largely excluded. The first group of NASA astronauts (Mercury 7) in 1959 included only men.
    Slow Progress in Astronaut Selection:
As of today, women still make up a minority of space travelers. For instance, fewer than 15% of all astronauts who have gone to space are women.
    Bye 👋

  • I loved to take a quiz through which I got an idea about my knowledge of gender inequality and women's role in space industry.
After completing quiz I scored 7/8 . Also l learned many more new fascinating facts :
Women such as Dr. Shawna Pandya, Sally Ride and Dr. Mae Jemison are challenging stereotypes in space industry and breaking barriers.
Globally, women make up only 28% of the workforce in STEM fields.
The space industry is largely male dominating holding women only 15% of leadership positions.
These facts are very useful and will definitely come in handy while arguing for greater diversity and inclusion in STEM fields and the space industry.
I'll be surely using these facts in my future posts to support my arguments. Thankyou for the above quiz.

  • hello,
I scored 6 out of 8. I want to add something to the quiz. I knew lots of informations from school that I want to share with you. Here are some of them:
    - In the past, women had no right to buy or own or even control the money with her
    - Always, pink is for women and girls and blue is for men and boys (I studied this in the class with my teacher)
    - In the social studies, I studied that in the past it was impossible to see a woman as a president or a pilot but now it is a little bit became better chance by the progress of ages

Well, I really was shocked when I knew this information because it is really " UNFAIR" to do that and I felt very angry.

For the second one, I think that it is very difficult to be solved because people's minds are like stubborn and will never change their mind. However, I think this rule is good because pink is like a cute and simple color which is suitable for girls. And blue, is like a dark color which is suitable for boys because they are strong.

Finally, for the last one, I was furious and I was encouraged to help and take action towards that problem.
To conclude, I hope all of these problems could be solved in the fastest way.
    Thanks!!

  • I managed to get 6 out of 8 on the quiz which I would say is good for me but I can't really focus on that when one of the answers I got wrong was on Sally Rides interview.

It's honestly quite concerning thinking about it deeper because the basic questions you would ask a famous astronaut is "How did u become an astronaut?" or "what education did u need to be an astronaut?". I would never think someone would want to ask "who's doing the cooking while you're in space?" and "did u cry under pressure?". None of these questions would be said to a male astronaut, she should get more respect for being THE FIRST female astronaut to go to space.

The whole situation much have been really discouraging for other female kids who want to be astronauts and I don't think these are the type of questions Sally returned to answer.

  • I think that people prioritized men in the 1900s were able to go to space so they designed everything only for men, but as time went on, women got more rights and were able to get more jobs and they started to be able to become astronauts but women didn't have the right equipment to fly because they were all designed for men so women now find it harder to go to space.

  • I think that female astronauts should have the same rights as male astronauts. This includes specially made
Spacesuits for women. Another thing is that male astronauts are paid more and women should be paid more as well because some women have a family and kids to look after. I think that gender equality needs to improve in the space world. In conclusion I believe that every one should be equal in the world

  • One of the most shocking things I learned from this quiz is that "95% of men between the ages of 25 and 54 are employed, but only 52% of women are." I was expecting the percentage of men to be somewhat equal or similar to women, but instead its basically double the amount of women. A debatable reason for why so little of women are employed in the world that one of the people from the webinar pointed out is that possibly due to the abundance of men in industries, can cause women to feel overly intimidated and want to back out of the field or not commit to it. She had said as a woman herself, while she has been working in her station and in the academy she saw that there was around 5 and it made her feel slightly intimidated by the abundance of men and lack of women in the field. She said it sometimes made her feel as if she didn't belong or was out of place. This could be a key factor to why women are less abundant in some fields over others.

    1. I agree because... women have always been thought to have been below men and that their rights have only been equal since 1918. I agree with you when you said many women have felt out of place at the work, and this sometimes cause them to quit.

  • According to my knowledge 600 men have been sent to space but as compared to it only 100 women have been sent to space . I don't think so Space X , NASA or isro said that we will not send a women to space actually this starts from a her own home , where a girl is not allowed to get a her higher education completed as what her family members believe is that she will be in kitchen only whether she studies or not , after getting married or becoming mother she is stopped from doing her jobs as she got a penalty. At the end , we can't fully blame a organisation however . Let's begin with our own house

  • What i know about gender inequality in space industries is that the first woman to ever be in space was in 1963 but the space race started in 1955 so for 8 years woman were not allowed in space . This must have been discouraging for all women interested in astronomy and in general science. it is seen "MALE" subject which is hinting that a women can not do it.

It is one of the most persuasive forms of inequality for centuries, it has caused discrimination and exclusion of woman non-binary .It has also blocked woman from leadership roles and has led to increase gender based violence.

    1. I'm not sure that gender inequality in the space industry influences gender-based violence. Please could you explain this idea?

  • In my opinion, the cosmos belongs to everyone, yet gender inequality still shadows humanity's journey beyond Earth. While pioneers like Valentina Tereshkova (the first woman in space) and Sally Ride proved that women could be astronauts, the space industry's terrain still remains uneven. I want to talk about why equity matters and how we can achieve it.

Now, looking at humanity's current orbit, it's not pretty. Women make up just 20-30% of the global space workfore, with even fewer in any leadership roles. Pay gaps still persist and stereotypes still steer girls away from STEM fields. During the Apollo era, women like Katherine Johnson (of Hidden Figures fame) fough invisibility. Today, challenges still persist. Only 11% of astronauts since 1961 have been women and spacesuit designs or mission protocols often ignore female needs like periods.

But why does it even matter? Women make up half of our population, excluding 4 billion people kills innovation. Diverse teams solve problems better, something that is vital if we want to go forwards with space projects like colonizing Mars. Representation is also key: when girls see figures like Jessica Meir conducting spacewalks or Alyssa Carson training for Mars, the dream bigger.

Progress is happening. Organizations like the UN's Space4Women mentor girls in STEM while private firms prioritize diversity. Gender neutral parental leave at ESA and NASA's Artemis program (which aims to land the first woman on the Moon) signal change. Education is key.

In conclusion, the stars shine brightest when we reach for them together.

  • The space industry is still today an industry less accessible for women than men. Indeed, back in time women were considered as less capable than men in the scientific field. Yet, this stereotype is unfounded. However, it led to a spatial industry full of injustice towards women. They were for example huge gap of salary and a lack of representation of women in the highest jobs.
Even if the spatial industry has understood its fault, there is still a long way to go before a perfect equality in the industry. Some stereotypes are sticking and people have difficulties to see the potential in the girls.
One of the solution would be to stop brake the little girls who love maths or science because of a stupid prejudice which said that they are less capable than boys. Also, it’s important to present the engineer’s path to everyone.
But I think that the most important to remind is that girls can do it and society is in the process of changing!

  • Something I know is that gender inequality is a big, BIG problem. Due to this problem, women are being forced to stay home and clean, take care of the kids, cook, and lots of other things. while men go out to work, and when they get back home, they sit around and do nothing.Women end up arguing with their husband and if this happens a lot, it could possibly result in a divorce.

  • Gender inequality across the world is a huge problem, unemployment for certain people just because they're female isn't just. Denying people entry to certain things because they're female also, isn't just. Everyone has to understand that.

  • 5 out of 8. I learned that the female population in the workforce is severely lower than the male population. With this, I understood that the chances of a male making it into space-workforce rather than a female, proving the gender biasness. Due to this, the rarity of seeing a female in the workforce as opposed to a male is significantly low. I've also learned that gender inequality can be for anyone and not just females.

  • I got 7 on 8. I got to know many things about the gender inequality that still continues in our so-called "modern" societies. We learnt about how women are not seen as equals with men, and how this is a big problem for everyone!
The thing that I found really concerning was when we studied about how most industries that are physically demanding are male-dominated. People are bound to think that women are not as capable as men just because of their different physically conditions, which is really unfair. What makes us think that when we don't even know what one can do? Why are we all not given the equal chances and opportunities to prove ourselves, and this does not only apply for women but also for men.

  • When we think of space, we imagine vast possibilities, endless exploration, and limitless dreams. Yet, for many women in India, the journey to the stars is often hindered—not by gravity, but by the weight of societal expectations.Growing up, I’ve heard stories of Rakesh Sharma, India’s first astronaut, and how he proudly described India from space. But what about Kalpana Chawla and Sunita Williams? Their names weren’t always celebrated in the same way. Even today, many young girls in India hesitate to dream of space, not because they lack intelligence or ambition, but because they are told—directly or indirectly—that science, technology, and leadership in space are not “for them."The Indian space industry, especially ISRO, has made remarkable progress in including women. From Ritu Karidhal and Muthayya Vanitha leading Chandrayaan missions to the increasing number of female scientists, India is proving that women belong in space. However, challenges remain. Women in STEM often struggle with limited leadership roles, stereotypes about their capabilities, and the constant pressure to balance family and career.Gender inequality in the space industry is not just about numbers; it’s about perception. When a young girl looks at a rocket launch, she should see a future where she belongs—not one where she has to fight to be accepted. The universe doesn’t discriminate. It doesn’t care who builds the rocket, who calculates the trajectory, or who lands on another planet. It’s time we, as a society, embrace the same mindset and make space for everyone—quite literally.

  • I think that gender inequality shouldn’t even be a thing anymore. It is just awful to think that in some countries women are still obligated to stay at home taking care of her children and husband and they aren’t allowed to work. Some of these women are still abused by their husbands or other men in their lives, which is just horrible. Thankfully, these situations have been getting better in most countries and as time passes, more women are able to do the same things as men and have the same right as them.

There are a lot of jobs which are still men dominated but I hope we’ll be able to change that by educating children and changing people’s mindset. Because women are just as important as men and that should be seen in all aspects.

    1. What are the most effective ways to change people's minds and promote gender equality in male-dominated fields?

      1. I’d say probably by giving talks about this topic in those jobs, the TV and schools. Obviously not everyone is going to agree and some people are a bit harder to persuade bu I think that by insisting enough on the topic it would be possible. There also are some people, specially children but also grown ups, who do not actually know anything about this topic so by teaching and educating them it would make it easier to solve.

  • I know that gender equality is a big problem globally because most space suits are fit for the average man. I also have another example that crash test dummies are designed after the average man and women are smaller than the average man meaning women can get hurt more in a accident.

  • I've discovered a lot of facts. First of all, I realized that women get paid less than men an hour. Also, I found out that over 90% of men are employed, but only 25% of women are employed. The last fact I found out about was that crash test dummies for cars were specifically made to have the proportions of men than women, meaning that women would more likely get injured. So in my opinion, these things are unfair and they should be stopped.

  • I think gender inequality is unfair. I think it is unfair because, being treated differently because of your gender, is very unfair. One example is the motherhood penalty. Many women are not getting paid equally just because they have children. I think women with kids should either get paid more or get assistance because they need the support.
Thank you for reading my comment.

  • Gender inequality, it is a major issue in the world which altera the overall growth of human society .everyone in the world is familiar about this topic but the problem arises when people ignore it and do not take initiatives to stop it .
I scored 4/8 in the test and the results were shocking .I came to know many new facts and news about women empowerment.
It is highly disappointing that though gender inequality is a problem for everyone, noone tries to stop it .
Through the quiz we conclude that women's are highly discriminated all over the world.
As stated in quiz only 54% of women's of age 25-54 are employed whereas for men this reaches to 95%. Is this good? This shows that women are forced to not become independent and aren't provided with the support they need for the accomplishment of their goals. We have observed that industries like construction, AI, technology etc are highly male dominant and women do not get the opportunity to work here.
Space industry also face gender inequality. The space suits are generally created according to male which creates problems for girls.
Can you imagine a women who accomplished the task of going into the space was asked about her makeup and cooking in the interview instead of asking about the experience and journey isn't it ridiculous?
The major problem with the society is they don't want to erase gender inequality from our world.
But in current world people are taking initiative to stop this activity. Like in India through 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Yojana etc and I believe that these small steps will make a big difference.

  • Gender inequality is a really big problem which is related to space as the first man that walked on the moon was in 1969 and the first women who walked on the moon was 2024. As you can see this is a massive gap being 55 years apart which is just absurd. women should be treated the same as men with everything:space, home, work.

  • Women have a lesser rank in society and that has always been the case, but it should change as the expectations of women have been different depending on the type of work. The expectations for looking after the children and doing the dishes and washing clothes is crazy they should be able to do all jobs not certain ones that is completely unfair. Men have a higher rank partly because of their strength and because men don't go on maternity leave. Women need to be involved in the STEM industries as well. This could also help to being part of big space projects and eventually men and women will both work in a society together where women and men are treated equally.

  • I think that most jobs are male-dominated because most people agree that women should be at home taking care of the children, cooking, cleaning. I think its unfair because most male-dominated jobs allow women to take part in the job if they don't have the right equipment how are they supposed to do the job right? In our lessons we found out that the space suits are not designed for a womens body because men have a much manly figure. I agree that gender does not matter.

  • what I know is that only 26% of the STEM workforce is woman that is crazy to think 74% are male. And 12% of woman are construction works so only 88% are men that is a lot of men. Also we need to change pay because woman get 24% less than men so we need to change this now because they work the same time but doesn't get the same amount money.

  • what I know is that in some countries, gender inequality is a huge problem , because Women are forced to be sitting in their homes doing chores, cooking, and taking care of children, but men are forced to go to work. N.A.S.A. (national, astronautics, space, administration) spacesuits were originally made for men not for woman so when the woman where getting into the spacesuits it was to big and did not have the right proportions for females.

  • I think women in space should be allowed because everyone should get a chance of want to do and just because you're a certain gender doesn't mean you can't do a particular job.Lately women haven't been at work because they have to look after there children and when they do go to work they don't get enough money, this is called the Motherhood Penalty. This would explain why 52% of women between 24 and 52 are employed and most men work in space as it's a male- dominated industry and the space equipment is for men. I think if women can set up their own projects in space and their own equipment more women could be in space.

  • it is not fear on women that they do not get to folow out ther dreams just because of a sily littal thing calld stereotips. And some women do the opasit of the larw and then inspier others to do the same. Dr. Norah Patten
had adream as a kide to be an astranort but she was allways thore that she couldent but sht proved eveone roing
that said she couldent do it.

  • I think that it is unfair that women get paid 24% less than men , and not just women working-hard mothers get paid less than fathers do.Do these men may be single but may had had a relation ship and if they did they would have more money than women.

  • I think, that there are too many stereotypes in the world and that people should not expect things like men always having a job and women always staying at home. Instead people should never expect people to do what they are expected to do.

  • Hello again! I am proud to announce that i got 8\8 for the 3rd time! My point of view as a girl is that women are 100% treated unfairly and wrong! Just because women may be shorter or weaker than men doesnt mean we cant do the same as them! Luckily, where I live we're not the worst for women being treated different but I know many places that are know for having unfair rules for women! The main thing is i think women should be treated the exactly the smae as men as everyone is different in there own way and that shouldnt be bad! Thant you for reading!
    Bye! 😊

  • i think that men have dominated some jobs for years and i think woman need a chance to do them jobs if they want to. Just because men might be stronger doesn't mean that you can just single them out. i think that if you want to be a astronauts they can be astronauts .

    FOLLOW YOUR DREMES

  • I think that NASA and other space exploration companies should have made suits for women a long time ago, like in 1983 when Sally Ride was the first woman in space. In contrast, this could cause women to think they are different from men. So, in the first place, they should have made unisex suits so that any astronaut can use them. Space exploration has been a very male-dominated industry since the first moon landing. Women also only make just over a quarter of the STEM industries which could be holding them back.

  • I think that spacesuits from NASA and other space companies should've always had gender neutral suits and should be more open to both genders with the astronauts that work for them.

  • Sadly in many countries around the world ,jobs for women are restricted to either factory workers or shop keepers. In countries like Afghanistan women have zero rights. So although there are gender discriminators, we can still think on how we can improve ourselves as a country.

  • What i know about gender equality is that it is a huge problem for woman in every country because woman have been said to have to be house wives and not live there lives like free woman. it is also an issue that men design the space suits so they wont fit woman because it was made to fit men not woman. i agree tha women in space is a good idea because it will have a perspective from male and female.

  • What I know about gender inequality and the space industry is that more men would be an astronaut than woman,
that would probably be because they are not brave enough to go out and get more woman along side with them.
People are now trying to encourage woman to be an astronaut and start training at a young age, ( but not to young )
so they can be an astronaut when they are older.

  • In my opinion, gender inequality is extremely important, especially in industries where it would benefit them massively to have a diverse group of opinions and knowledge. I also think that all genders should be equal, all across the world, as that is only fair and most women are just as capable as men. In the space industry, in my opinion, gender inequality is a massive problem, as there is a gender pay gap, as well as lots of male led developments -such as the fact that spacesuits were originally designed to fit men, not women. There are also lots more men working in the space industry than women, so I think more women/girls should be encouraged into working in space. We could do this by some women who worked in the STEM industry visiting children in secondary schools to talk about their jobs and hopefully encourage them to take those subjects.

  • What I know is that in some countries gender inequality is a big problem especially when it can benefit the world. It is unfair that women are not treated the same as men just because they are a women. It is also a better to have a more opinions in a work industry so you get the correct things for a women. Finally, women can do anything that a man can if they are given the chance. It is not all about the gender.

  • GENDER INEQUALITY IS A GLOBAL PROBLEM THAT IS BOTH UNFAIR FOR MEN AND WOMEN. I THINK THAT A MAN AND A WOMAN SHOULD BE ABLE TO MAKE THE CHOICE OF OCCUPATION THAT SUIT THEM BEST. WOMEN FOR EXAMPLE ARE TO TAKE CARE OF THEIR CHILDREN AND DO CHORES FOR WHAT PEOPLE THINK. MANY GIRLS OUT THERE MIGHT WISH TO BE A ASTRONAUT BUT BECUASE OF THE GENDER INEQUALITY THEY HAVE TO PERSUE ANOTHER OCCUPATION.

  • what i know about countries gender inequality is a huge problem because women are being forced to be sitting in there homes and doing chores and their husbands are doing all the work like let them play football and let them do sports

  • I now know that women have a harder time trying to do jobs - including being a astronaut - due to men being the first people to do this and stereotypes that people have created. Because women in the early 1900s had been thought to only work in the house cleaning and looking after children.

  • Gender inequality is just like racism, just think about it. Racism is one race against another. Gender inequality is one gender against another. They're basically the same but its gender instead of race, and race instead of gender.

  • From this topic, what I know is that there are many unfair aspects within a workplace for women. For example when in the hiring process a man is more likely to be chosen over a woman as well as how a woman with the same job as a man is paid only 82 cents for every dollar that a man makes. Even outside of the workplace women are still treated unfairly, if a woman does a certain thing like playing a sport she´s seen as different or considered a tomboy but it would be seen as a normal thing for a man to do. After taking this quiz in which I got an 8/8 but I had to make some guesses as I didnt know some of the answers and they all turned out to be correct, I learned about the mother penalty, I knew how women get paid less than men but I would have never known that it affects mother especially because they would need it more now as they are providing for a child.

  • I know many things about women and how men displace them from society due to its gender, but I don't know many things about the society related with the space.
I know that women have not the same opportunities than men in a lot of situations but in the space or industries working in aerospace engineering is harder as there are not women at all. Most people who train for being an astronaut are men and it is not fair. People think that women are not able to travel to the moon or going to the space because they don't pass the assignments but this is not true because most of them are not able even to apply for them and this is what is making women feel display.
A women must have the opportunity of applying for everything they want without receiving bad comments or being overlooked. The world should be a safe place where you must be able to feel comfortable and away from problems.

  • According to, UNFPA gender equality is first and foremost, a human right . It means that the rights, responsibilities and opportunities of individuals will not depend on whether they are male or female, handicapped or able bodied, young or elderly, white or black, or from rural or urban settings. Gender inequality is opposite of gender equality. Gender discrimination is prevalent in almost all societies and its prevalence is multidimensional. In addition, it is a obstruct in the development of any country.Through this quize , I can learn a lot about gender equality. I have learned things that I didn't know about it. It helps me to learn about this topic, to create a skilled and conscious perspective.

  • Gender inequality has always been a major issue that women have been trying to overcome for a long time, facing unfair stereotypes like the motherhood penalty. Despite significant progress, it remains a current problem affecting various fields, including the space industry, even though women play an active and equal role in space science, technology, innovation, and exploration. One example is Katherine Goble Johnson, who played a crucial role in space exploration in the 20th century. As an African American woman, she discovered an error in a flight-test calculation on her first assignment. She was selected, along with another woman, from the computing pool at the Langley Aeronautical Laboratory (later part of NASA) to assist the all-male Flight Research team. Yet, unfair stereotypes persisted. When Sally Ride became the first American woman in space in 1983, interviewers focused on whether she would take makeup, cry under pressure, or cook, rather than on space exploration itself. Women remain underrepresented as astronauts, engineers, and leaders. Moreover Space programs initially excluded them, and today they still face barriers in STEM careers, funding, and leadership. A key example of male-led development is space suits, originally designed for men. In 2019, NASA had to cancel an all-female spacewalk because the suits didn’t fit. However, progress is being made, with the Artemis program aiming to land the first woman on the Moon and increasing advocacy for gender diversity in aerospace.

  • Woman have fought on different occasions to prove that they are as important as men both in science and in society. A clear example of this is Valentina Tereshkova, a historic figure in space exploration and in the struggle for gender equality. In addition, she was the fist woman to travel in 1936 on the Vostok 6 spacecraft, an event that made her very well known worldwide. Previously, she had worked as a textile worker and parachutist on occasion, but the skills that these jobs gave her led her to make history. During her flight, wich lasted about three days in orbit, Valentina took some important notes that happens in her body, wich later served for other missions. Her seccess led many women to join the space industry and helped to change the view that space travel was only for men. Tereshkova went on to become a politician and to promote scientific education for women and set an example for others to follow. In conclusion, Valentina Tereshkova was a great inspiration and she influenced the space industry, and inspired generations of women to participate in STEM carrers and fighr for equality.

  • What I know and have learnt is that it is a lot more unfair on women workers who work for space industries because if they have kids then they wouldn’t be paid fairly because the mother would need a bit more extra money to pay for her and the kids depending on how many kids you would have

    1. Should both parents share equal financial responsibility for their children, regardless of their jobs?

  • The space industry is definitely an industry which should be a wide topic of gender equality because the space industry is usually seen as more targeted towards males as many young boys want to be astronauts which has created the stereotype that the space industry is for men to partake in. There has been a recent rise of women working in the space industry for companies like NASA which is a great achievement for the forwards movement of gender equality.

  • Empowering the next generation of space explorers starts with a crucial question: what's holding us back from achieving true equality in the space industry? As I reflect on this, I'm reminded that gender inequality is still a significant hurdle we need to overcome. It's heartbreaking to think that women, who make up half of our global population, are underrepresented in this field. They face countless obstacles, from being pigeonholed into administrative roles to lacking role models in leadership positions. But what gives me hope is the resilience and determination of women in space. They're pushing boundaries, breaking stereotypes, and inspiring the next generation. Initiatives like NASA's Girls in STEM and the UN's Space4Women are beacons of change, empowering young women to pursue their dreams. And it's thrilling to see organizations and governments taking concrete steps towards creating a more inclusive space industry. Let's continue to uplift and support each other, because when we work together, we can achieve greatness!

  • Hello!!
I think there is a lot of difference between men that have been to Space, more or less 70 womens and 500 men. But most of the womens that have been to Space are from this century
It is important the appearance of women in Space because they have different points of view.
I think this is improving and in the future, not very far, the number of womens that will go to Space will be more or less as the men.

  • Gender inequality in the space industry has been a persistent issue, with men historically dominating astronaut selection, leadership roles, and STEM fields. Women remain underrepresented, making up a smaller percentage of astronauts, engineers, and decision-makers. Early space programs excluded women, assuming they were less suited for space travel. Even today, they face challenges, such as fewer long-duration mission opportunities and limited recognition. In 2019, NASA had to delay an all-female spacewalk due to a lack of properly fitting spacesuits, highlighting ongoing gaps in inclusivity.

Leadership roles also reflect gender imbalance, with fewer women in top positions at space agencies and private companies. Female researchers and engineers often receive less funding and recognition, limiting their career advancement. However, progress is being made. NASA’s Artemis program will send the first woman to the Moon, and private companies like SpaceX and Blue Origin are actively working toward gender diversity.

Efforts to inspire young girls to pursue STEM careers are increasing, with initiatives aimed at closing the gender gap. As more women break barriers in space exploration, the industry moves toward a more inclusive future, ensuring that discoveries and advancements reflect the perspectives of all humankind.

    thank you!

  • Women have been having a little batel to have the same rights as men in the space industry, but they diden't get a good result. Women in terms of work have beed always behind men, and some time ago, as we all know, women haven't been recognised as someone important. In the space Industry women have been less seen, for example we haven't see almost any women, and in my opinion this should change.
