How do you feel about what’s happening in Syria?
How do you feel about what’s happening in Syria?
In December 2024 after over 50 years of rule by the Assad family, Syrian rebel groups took control of the country. Many Syrians celebrated in the streets, hopeful for a new beginning after years of war. However, other people do not trust that the situation will change for the better.

I am deeply concerned because in an advanced era a country is still suffering from a food shortage it is an oppression
of human wrights but with the recent happenings there is a new ray of hope but also a possibility of oppression
with the civil war which is a matter to be discussed within the country to unite and be stronger
I am genuinely angry about Syria. I can’t believe that people haven’t learned anything, even though we’ve been ar war for as long as we know about human existence. We persistently repeat the same mistakes, even today in 21st century. War is terrible and there is not justifiable or reasonable reason for it to start. I feel the most sorry for the people who suffer and lose their loved ones every day. It’s horrible to imagine going to sleep not knowing if you will wake up or survire tommorow or if you will hug your mother for the last time.
Although I also feel bad for the people who went through all that suffering in Syria, I feel quite hopeful about the situation, but not entirely. Now that the Assad regime is gone, Syria is granted a one-time-only chance to rebuild itself and become a democratic country where no one has to suffer. However, achieving that will be very difficult, as there are so many unresolved problems: There has to be a new head of state, injured people have to be helped, missing people have to be found and cities need to be rebuilt. Additionally, if something goes wrong, like a bad new leader or harmful intervention from another country, it would all go back to civil war, a dictatorship and suffering. But I believe that if a new, democratic government is in place, all the injured people are helped and the destruction is repaired, then Syria can turn itself into a prosperous country. Overall, I think we should be optimistic: Syria now has a chance to make things right, and we should hope for the best.
I agree with you because Syria really does have a chance to start fresh now that the Assad regime is gone. I believe it’s a huge opportunity for the country to heal and grow. But, like you said, it's going to be really tough. So many people need help, and there’s so much to rebuild. It’s like when you break something important, and you need time and effort to fix it, but it’s hard to know if you’ll get it just right.
The new government must be really careful. If they choose a leader who doesn’t care about the people or if other countries try to control things, Syria could fall into more problems. We’ve seen that happen in other places before, and we don’t want that for Syria. But if they get it right—like choosing a leader who truly cares, helping all the people who’ve suffered, and fixing the broken parts of the country—then Syria could be great again. It could be a place where everyone has a chance to live peacefully and happily.
I also think that the world should support Syria, not by making decisions for them but by offering help and encouragement. If the Syrian people and their leaders stay focused and work hard together, they can make Syria a better place for everyone. I believe it’s possible, and we should stay hopeful and optimistic!
I completely agree to your point and relate to what you are feeling since what happened in Syria is extremely astonishing and proves as an eye-opener for the entire world, how too much greed for power can drive person who promised his people to serve them selflessly to chase his selfish goals. It is indeed alarming of the lives lost for power and old mistakes, the mistakes through which the common people have to suffer. The people that are the heart of the country are at constant alert as they don't know what lies ahead. What we as global citizens can do to improve situation in Syria is to be empathetic to them, show them moral support and aid them whenever needed.
I can understand you and I also feel very sorry for all the people who lost their loved ones, but don't you also feel a bit hopeful for the people of syria? The Assad regieme is gone and now there is a chance of peace in this country. I hope that the new president of syria doesn't do those terrible things with the country and its inhabitants as the Assad regieme did. Nowadays there is the chance to rebuild the country and maybe turn it into a democracy. I hope that the government of the HTS stand up for the interests of the people of syria. It could be that they repeat the same mistakes, but the chance for this seems, to me, not too big. It deffenitly get not so worse as it was, when the Assad regime was in power.
Thoughtful and compassionate reply
I agree with you because Syria has been at war for a long time now. Loads of houses and city's have been bombed i think the president should rebuild some houses and hospitals for people that have suffered from the war. I think he should do this because loads of people have lost their lives in the war. I do agree with you because imagine if you will go to sleep and you don't think you will survive .
I also agree as Syria has been in war for a very long time as a lot of houses hospitals schools offices have been destroyed and a lot of people have died due to this people have been evacuated and houses have been abandoned due to this so I think that other countries should give Syria better equipment and better tools
I totally agree with you, I also havé thé impression that no one learns from their mistakes and that humanity always advances towards the point without evolving, in this area.
I strongly agree with your opinion, because the war in Siria, has become one of the most devastating humanitarian crisis of our time. More than a decade of conflict has left, hudreds of thousand deads, millions of people displeced, and a country engulfed in suffering. It is heart breaking watching entire generations growing up in fear, without access to a decent life and basic needs, injured children, and families running out from their homes are a constant reminder of the urgent need for peace. We can not remain indifferent to so much suffering. It is time for the world to act with humanity.
I strongly agree, with what you are talking about, for me its impossible not to feel angry and helplessness at the tragedy that stills occuring in Syria, for me its imposible to understand how there are many people suffering in that way now a days. Years of war, displacement and suffering, have left deep scars on Syrian people, on childrens, entire families. Millions of refugees without a home, facing a world that often turns its back to them. Childrens who have known nothing but horror...its painful to see and hear about, but its more painful to see the indiference of so many people. But in the middle of so much darkness, the fall of Assads regime brings some hope. Hopefully, it will be the beggining of a better future for Syria, and Syrian people.
In my opinion I think that it is a huge turning point in Syria as there will more democracy and things will be more fair so it is a new while blank page in Syria's history where Syrian citizens write their own history with their hands . In that moment many citizens are with no food and no money but happy for their shining future for a super developed country where everything is better than the depressing past . I am of course happy for what happened and best wishes for Syria.
I am genuinely happy for Syria on getting their democracy back. The war although they came out victorious left them with a huge loss. From loss of lives to properties, homes, families, and loss of resources. Wars live countries in sorry states that natural factures like famine, food scarcity and drought could easily worsen their state. Most countries that have gone through war suffer huge losses in which it takes a long time for them to recover from. But the fact that they have gotten back their democracy and their human right aren't being oppressed any more would help them support and help each other in this tough time.
I agree with you by saying that Syria made for themselves democratic country and peace fell over the country. In the period of occupation they lost their houses and properties but for every tough time their is an ending for it and this ending is the begging of great and happy time.
i completely agree with you. The return of democracy to Syria is a significant step forward, especially after years of hardship and devastation caused by war. While the losses both human and material are immense, having a goverment that upholds human rights and allows citizens to have a voice can help in rebuilding the nation. Stability, cooperation, and international support will be crucial in overcoming the long term effects of war, such as economic struggles, displacement, and resource shortages. The resilience of the people will play a key role in Syria's recovery, and with unity, they can work towards a brighter future
Even me I felt happy for their freedom from the president in Syria and also sad because many house were burnt and it will be hard for the citizen to breathe because the is less tree and the fresh air is covered with smoke and many people lost their lives and property with so many mineral recourses will reduce
I personally feel like this could be a big opportunity for Syria to rebuild itself. Like I get why some people don't like how it had to be done by a coup but no choice is free from consequences. If Assad were to remain president then there would have been more corruption and oppression. Plus it was only a matter of time before someone would have wanted a change whether it be rebels or not. The problem is not Syria itself but the people who led Syria and now that they are gone it is an open canvas to new opportunities shaped by the people of Syria. Syria is like a Phoenix burning up in the ashes before rising up again reborn and ready for new opportunities. However I give my best wishes to all the innocent people caught in the crossfire.
I totally agree with you. The people are rebuilding a country in their own image, with their own hands, wich is a historic turning point for Syria
A very good comment, and I totally agree with you on this. The opportunities presented to Syria are certainly more abundant with the changes in political governance. However, in recent case studies such as those in Iraq, with the toppling of Saddam Hussein's regime, and more recently in Afghanistan with the return of the Taliban administration, I would encourage you to consider how Syria may charter itself on an alternative path in its future, and to take advantage of the opportunities you have so cleverly articulated.
To supplement my prior comment. I would encourage you to consider the rise of groups such as ISIS in Iraq and the return of the Taliban government in Afganistan. I think that there are opportunities but the perils must also be avoided. Once again, an excellent contribution.
I am actually very surprised. Not only because the rebels were able to end al-Assad's regime after a 13 year long war, even though the opposition to a regime supported by non other than Iran and Russia was made up by lots of different factions (which had conflicts between them), in just eleven days. But also because when it was clear al-Golian (or al-Sharaa) and the HTS had taken power, many people assumed or feared that as Islamists, they would act as the talibans did for example: imposing the Islamic law; ending the secularity the al-Assaad regime had said to maintain all these years; and persecute some religious minorities, as Syria is a country with different ethnic and religious groups, or forcing them to go away, something similar to what happened to Christians during the Lebanese civil war. Nevertheless, they haven't done anything s to that and they even have tried to appeal to Westerners by promising to respect all the minorities as well as women's rights, maybe in order to avoid any conflicts with Israel, which has destroyed every weapon left in Syria to avoid invasions from there, and the USA which has always been against the HTS and al-Goliani due to its past connection to Al-Quaeda. Therefore, I have been surprised but also happy as al-Assad's bloody regime has finally ended and Russia and Iran have taken a big blow.
Yes, I agree with you. The intensity of the civil war varied over time with the following groups the Syrian government, rebel groups, and actors outside the country being active players. I know that the conflict has caused a severe crisis with so many people displaced in and outside the country. The country also faces issues such as food insecurity, lack of access to basic services and a huge destruction of property. I feel one major issue that needs to be looked out for is the issue of the refugees. Millions of Syrians who ran away from their country are seeking refuge in the countries that are close by and beyound and it is a big challenge for host countries. Host countries have to look out for them in terms of security, basic needs of individuals etc.
I agree because Syria started as a great country with resources which could lead to cultural development and much more but then all of a sudden they started too loose all their resources because of they civil war that occur also with the bad leadership which caused different damages to the country which surprised me. The civil war brought about different problems like:
1. It made children orphans
2. Caused insufficient food
3. Led to loss of lives
4. Increased Illiteracy rate
5. Increased mental health issues
6. Led to displacement of people
I also feel that they could solve things better instead of them going to war or anything that will cause loss of lives and different other dangerous things when they could just sit down and settle it.
Thank You!!!
Just like Syria the citizens ar trying to run from inflation into another country some they can seek greener pastures. But in the case of Syria people where taken as refugees because of the food shortage and violence. If Syria decides to improve in sports, politics and stop food shortage. This would set an example for other countries to see and take intaitive. Thank you.
It’s hard for me to watch so many people lose their homes, starve and live in a fear because they were denied the basic human right, which is the right to live, and also the end solution seems so far away.I’m honesty disgusted and I can’t belive that people still haven’t learned that war doesn’t bring anyone any good and those who are not even the reason of it ,suffer the most.I feel helpless, but I also wish for the people to get more involdved and provide help for the people who are in need!
In my opinion, I feel hopeful and concerned. I feel hopeful that Syria will achieve democracy and peace in their homeland. No one should feel unsafe or unwelcomed in a place they call home. However, I also feel concerned for Syrians. As great as they feel that the rebel group has taken charge, nobody truly knows their intentions. Many leaders like to lure citizens in by making themselves feel fair or like the people have no other options. I think that by the rebel group overthrowing the country, it may make some people feel stuck and helpless. And I'm not saying they don't want the possibility of a strong and fair government, I just believe that all people want a choice. And it seems like the only option their being given now is the rebel group. So, I am hopeful that Syrians can have a strong and democratic future with this new government. However, I'm also concerned about the groups intentions and the fact that if their despicable, the people will be taken advantage of, again.
I feel a mix of anger and concerned for Syria. Angry that one individual would rule for 50 years and bring this much trouble to the nation. I must say the situation is really complex people are suffering with basic needs like food, water and shelter scare for many, properties and economy destroyed. I am also happy to know that there are organisation working to bring aid and support to those affected. It is a good thing that we are learning about this, we can all help by raising awareness and support for the organisation.
I agree, what is happening in Syria got me concerned because the rule of the Assad family has caused great pain to Syrians and right now, the severe damage has left people homeless, many buildings destroyed and many asylums might want to return but their fear wont let them. but I still don't understand why they will still want the rebel group leader to lead them even after seeing what a regime can bring. Maybe is because they wanted a fresh start or because of the promises he made but there is a saying, ' Learn from Experience' so have observed that most times, they make promises just to win the peoples favor and get into power but only some people make genuine promises and they keep it so it is really hard to differentiate. If they allow the rebel leader to rule them, he might give them the same torture as the Assad family. But I am telling you having your say or freedom of speech it's what builds up a prosperous nation. So I think Syria will experience a great turning point if they give democracy a chance again.
I agree with you. I am glad that after 50 years, the Syrians have gotten their freedom and independence back. But I am also worried that the rebel group which promised prosperity for the country might turn on their people and set a new regime. Hopefully, if that does not happen, the people will be able to rebuild their homes and take control of their own lives.
Even though the war might have left majority of the Syrians in a miserable state, depriving them of many things, and also leading to loss of their loved ones, I think that democracy which they got at the end is the best thing because in my own opinion, it’s the best system of government in this 21st century and I think majority of the countries practices democratic system of government which is why citizens have say in such countries now leading us to the first definition that Abraham Lincoln gave us concerning democracy, which he said that “it’s government of the people, by the people and for the people”.
So I’m on the ground that I am exited that finally, the citizens of Syrians got back their political right, after over 50 years of rules by the Assad family.
Now due to the fact that it was a rebel group that took over the country, I understand that it’s a normal feeling that some people will be in doubt whether it’s the best for the country, but I think that this rebel group most have the best interest of the country in mind before they will risk their lives for overthrowing the government, therefore I don’t think there is need to panic but rather it’s an ample opportunity for the citizens of Syrians to embrace democracy and make the best out of it, for the tough time is over.
I wish the people of Syrians the best as they venture into this road of success.
THANK YOU SO MUCH...
Great comment. Very warm-hearted. Do you think the rebel group will allow Syrians to "embrace democracy", and if not, what can Syrian citizens do about it?
I think the rebel group might not allow the Syrians to embrace democracy easily because there are different participants with different goals, vision and mission. Some might support democracy others might not, I think the citizens can continue to advocate for rights and work tirelessly to promote democracy and its values. The path to democracy might be long but I think that Syrians in the country and those living outside the country should work together to promote democracy.
I am concerned about Syria because their former president imprisoned people who spoke against him would be sent to prison as fast as possible people weren't free to talk people were all scared but now the former president has fled ,they now have a new president that will bring back democracy and peace to the land and people will be free at last people will be in good hands
Syria is a country that is suffering from war and civil crises.Syria needs a leader to help them build back homes and cities. Some people choose to stay in syria while some people don't,still some people choose Ahmed Al-sharaa as their leader. I am deeply concerned because in this advanced era, a country is still suffering from hunger and poverty. But with the recent happenings, it seem there is a new ray of hope. With the coming of the new goverment , it will give the country some sense of stability because without a govermant, it will be difficult to end the war.
I feel hopeful for Syria because this is their turning point to become a better country. After 13 years of constant war, Bashar al-Assad's regime is finally over and people don't live in a dictatorship anymore. I just can't imagine how hard it must have been for this people to live for this long in a dictatorship, being silenced. I never lived in a dictatorship, but my parents did and they always say to me how hard it was. There wasn't enough food and if you tried to protest you would just be sentenced to life time in prison for not respecting the dictator, people lived in fear. It is sad that in the 21st century there are still dictatorships, and people can't express their opinion.
I am happy for the people in Syria because they can start a better life, not being afraid of the government.
I also agree with the points you have made on the state of Syria currently. Many people have died in that civil war, and many others had left out of fear or simply because it was too dangerous to stay. That on top of being in a dictatorship, like you have stated, can be really tough to go through. The constant war has taken a toll on Syria's citizens. I feel hopeful of the situation right now, because despite the war that had cost so much on Syria, I'm glad that it has at least ended on a more positive note. People in Syria no longer need to live in a dictatorship, constantly in fear of their safety because of Bashar Assad's oppressive regime. Like you said, the people in Syria can now live a better life free of war and government oppression.
I feel hopeful too knowing that things have changed. I know some of the Syrians will be willing to go back and rebuild their country, those who fled from the country a long time ago. Some of them will now have the opportunity to show their children and grandchildren their father/motherland. It is going to be an excitng moment for some families, I also know some families might feel sad because they lost love ones but I am glad they all have the opportunity to rebuild their country the way they have always dreamt of. The beginning might be rough but let's not forget change has its own challanges, I know they will definietly find a way to work it out. All they need to do is take one step at a time.
Thats so bad iam so upset about what happening in syria. imagine that you are locked up in a scary prison because you objected a bad politics and they also locked up children they are just a children. In syria womens were tortured in a really bad way. i think that after what happend syria need to open a new page and star a new life with a fair president and they must settle down searching for food and water and live a new life.
I tottaly agree with you. The conditions in the prisons are horrible and children and women are treated very violently.
I’m really, really mad about what’s been happening in Syria. The people in charge have made everyone’s lives so sad and hard. Lots of people lost their homes and families, and so many are hurt or scared. It’s just not fair! After all this time, things still aren’t better, and that’s just so frustrating. And then on top of that, other armies came into Syria and made things even worse. Instead of helping, they just fought and made everything more confusing and dangerous. The people there deserve to be safe and happy, not stuck in all this awful mess. It’s like the world just keeps piling on, and it’s really unfair.
I feel concerned about Syria , because a lot of bad things have been happening to them , like they have been in civil war for over 50 years , and they have been governed by the Assad family for as long as the civil war. But in December 2024 the rebel leaders chased the Assad family and took over Syria.
I am happy that the Syrians have gotten their freedom after the harsh rule of the Assad family. However, the war ended with huge losses, though they lost many lives, and properties I hope they have learnt a couple of lessons because even today in the 21st century we as humans make mistakes repeatedly without learning from them. I feel so sad for the people who have been affected in many ways, be it famine, loss of loved ones and resources, I hope the new government will make Syria a better place for the people.
I feel sad that the country lost so many potentials, doctors, lawyers, scientists, educationists and even children, people who would have taken the country to a greater height. This loss will indeed have affected and weakened the institutions, many of them must have fled the country, leading to breakdown in education, healthcare, government, amenities etc. This will most likely affect the next generation because they might lack professionals to train them resulting in the country struggling to development the citizens.
I agree because for over 50 years Bashar al-Assad and his family have been ruling and he was a strict and if you talk against them you will be sent to prison and in worst cases you may get killed by the president. so the people of Syria made flee so right now the president of Syria is Ahem al-Sharaa some people think that he is going to make the government strict and he might make to many rules and the first step i think they should make is by re-building every building there
I agree with you reflective_swan the Syrians deserve to be free after over fifty (50) years of living in poverty and hunger they need a better government.
After 12 years of civil war the Syrians were free. Many Syrians did not have the opportunity to talk if not they will be forced to go to prison.
But after Assad fled many Syrians went to prisons in search for their loved ones and family members.
I am very happy that Syrians have gotten their freedom back and can live in peace.
In my personal point of view, I am extremely hopeful and scared at the same time.
I am hopeful about the freedom of Syria because the captives and the prisoners that were captured become free. Furthermore, the injustice disappeared when the Assad family escaped from the country. people also will start working normally and children will learn without any fear or threaten.
I am scared because of the spread of terrorists in the country that can harm anyone. Moreover, Syria's civil war will cover the whole country. Also, the country may be divided into parts.
To conclude, best wishes to Syria because they are suffering from a lot of problems.
I am profoundly sorrowful about the satuation of Syria especially for thoes innocent children who have lost everything before their very eyes . Each of them had a dream about the bright future which has been stolen by thoes who are just thinking about thier own benefits , thoes who have changed the beautiful ground of Syria into battleground. The world must not stay silent against this great theft . Thousands of new genrations are lossing every basic things .
I am extremely hopeful for the following months for Syria. Syrian citizens have been living under the harsh rule and conditions of the Assad Regime for the last 24 years, but this landmark of a hope of democracy after everything that they have lost, and the destruction the the Assad Regime brought to the country, is astounding. But it's going to take a while for them to get back on their feet, and gain stability and rebuild everything that they've lost. This is a huge opportunity for Syria to be able to create what they want to see, and not what the government what's them to do. I am extremely excited to see how the Syrian people rebuild after the unforgiving war, and turn into a hopefully thriving civilization.
What are the most important steps Syria should take to rebuild and create a stable future?
I think the most important steps for Syria to become a stable and developing country is for them to achieve political stability and peace by involving constitutional reforms, fair elections, and power-sharing agreements. Having this will make it easier to be able to plan what's next for Syria, and have multiple opinions in the government. The second most important step (in my opinion) is for them to rebuild infrastructure and establish essential services such as healthcare, water, sanitation, and electricity. The essential services will help bring aid to the wounded soldiers and civilians from the war. Rebuilding infrastructure is primarily for the economy. It will help boost Syria's GDP and GDP per Capita, and establish wealth and income for the citizens of Syria.
I was happy and angry. here one reason I was happy for the Syrians freedom from the president and the reason I was angry was because of the bad law the gave the citizen president have been giving the the citizen and putting the good citizen in prison
THANK YOU
I am really angry and dissatisfied with the countries involved in the war and the opposition groups against Bashar al-Assad, because if the opposition groups hadn’t been formed and started the rebellion, the situation of the people wouldn't have reached where it is now. Also, the U.S., Iran, Russia, and Turkey should never have intervened. It’s obvious that they were only defending each other for their own benefit instead of thinking about peace. They didn’t care about the people; they only cared about their own interests. All the superpowers of the world intervened in the Syrian war for their own advantage, but in reality, it was the innocent people and children of Syria who became the victims. It truly breaks one’s heart. Perhaps Bashar al-Assad was hard on the people, but before the opposition groups started the war, and the war spread all over, people had food, clothes, safety, and jobs. Maybe not everyone had these rights, but I am sure that their situation was much better than it is now.
In my opinion, I believe that Syria's revolution will be a turning point in Syrian history, however, it may not all be good. The leading force behind the Syrian revolution is al-Sharaa (al-Goliani), they have promised to respect women's rights, all religions and be democratic, however, can we really trust a former Al-Quaeda/DAESH member?
Will Syrians finally get democratic elections or will it all come back full circle? Even if al-Sharaa fulfilled its promise, Syria has so many different groups of different ethnicities and religions that a democratic vote seems almost impossible. Will the votes just break into violence and riots? Will al-Sharaa just rig the election for their leader (Ahmed Hussein)?
Will they go crazy like the Taliban? Can we trust the rebels to be supportive of a democratic nation if it even happens? These are all questions we still don't know the answer to. While many people breath a sigh of relief that Syria now has peace, it doesn't feel like that will last for long. Whether it be the population breaking out into riots because of the new elections or the al-Sharaa turning into the Taliban, most times, the ending just goes back to the way it began.
In conclusion, we cannot be sure that this revolution has guaranteed Syrian freedom as the people behind the revolution are not trustworthy yet. Furthermore, we cannot trust Syria's own people as they're all radically different with no clear distinguisher, while this might look like a break for Syria, it might just make things worse.
You ask some great questions here that show brilliant creativity. Well done! When do you think a decision would be able to me made? Is there something that needs to happen that would help to make up your mind?
Sorry for the late reply, but after doing further research into the subject, I believe the situation isn't what one would call "straightforward". To accurately assess whether this revolution will be a turning point for Syria or just a repeat of the past, we need to look into ALL the different possibilities.
Firstly, seeing tangible evidence for al-Sharaa having accountability. If they follow through with their promises (i.e. respecting women's rights, protecting religious minorities and fostering democratic process), we MAY see signs of change. Without transparency, we won't know HOW they will ensure their terms are held up.
Secondly, can al-Sharaa include ALL of Syria's different minorities? There are Kurds, Sunnis, Alawites, Christians, Druze and others inside of Syria. If certain groups are marginalized, tensions are likely to boil over into violence, just like the past.
Thirdly, will countries such as the U.S., Russia, and Turkey push for stability AND hold al-Sharaa accountable for their actions. Or will geopolitical interests overshadow the needs of the Syrian people? International pressure could stop al-Sharaa from reverting to extremist tactics or rigging elections.
Fourthly, and most importantly, will Syrians have freedom of speech? Are civil society organizations emerging to advocate for human rights, democracy and reconciliation? If citizens feel empowered enough to voice their opinions, this could signal hope.
And lastly, to answer your second question, I'd say that observing concrete actions instead of just rhetoric will go a long way.
I have very conflicted feelings about the fall of Assad. On one hand, this is a symbol of hope worldwide. A symbol of fighting back against tyranny and corruption, that dictators are not free to do whatever they like and the people have the power to fight back. On the other hand, there is lots of uncertainty. Really we cannot know if the new government will rule fairly like how they have promised with a democratic system in which all are treated fairly. I would really like to think that after enduring the struggles they have Syrians are actually free but knowing the backstory of HTS I have to question this hope.
The satuation whcih is going on in Syria is all because of other countries who are just thinking about thier own benefits they did not care what whould happen for Syria's people and right now this satuation is really hurting me if they did not interject in this war now everything were all right the countries supported thoes who would help them to acheive to thier goals like America and other countries supported the opposition they made the satuation worse and it caused the ISIS's entry which took many parts of this country
I am both, happy and concerned about Syria. Happy as Syrians will finally be getting their democracy back. Women, people of other religion etc. will have a chance to experience their rights. Yet I am severely concerned about them too. Even though they faced the war and emerged victorious , the country is still in deep loss. A lot of Syrians have lost their lives or migrated to a foreign nation and rest in fear and don't know if Syria completely safe. Though they will take time to recover from post war condition but they will eventually head on the path of growth and development.
I partially agree with your thinking, happy_morning, but I don’t feel happy about Syria. You say that people of other religion will get their chance to experience their rights but that could turn out as a lie. We know that Ahmed al-Sharaa has promised more happiness and freedom, but is he lying? He could turn out to enforce strict religious rules and be a mean dictator. No one should believe what he says until he can prove it. Have you thought that Ahmed-al Sharaa might be keeping big secrets? Bad ones. Moving on, I do agree about feeling concerened because they have just ended a civil war, many lives have been lost, but there are also the evacuees. Syria needs t9 do something about them. Anyway, things happening in Syria is deeply concerning and someone needs to do something about it.
Hello, 👋
I would like to share my feelings with you about what is in syria. I feel very hopeful for syria because what happened there is considered as a turning point for it and is a big chance for it to be better. From my point of view, syria's family first step is to try to compensate what they lost in the years of war. And the second which is the most important step is to choose a fair person to judge them and help them. As we know in the war of syria, people left their country so I think that they have to agree all to return back to their country.
Thanks 🌺
Interesting ideas. Do you think it's fair to force Syrian refugees back to Syria even if they have settled and adjusted to life in a new country?
Of course no, it is their choice but they have to know that their country is safe now and if they want to return back at any time they can. From my point of view, a country is like a mother and a person who was born in this country is like a son or daughter so no one can leave his or her mother. Also, it is not a must to return back but just any place that they feel safe and comfortable in it is better.
Thanks 🌼
Hi,
No, I don't agree. The other countries such as USA, Iran, Turkey and Russia are still present, So Syria is not secure. I think the war is just starting, and it will only get worse. None of the refugees should return to their country. The people in Syria should go to other countries until the foreign forces leave. Syria would never be secure until the USA, Iran,Turkey and Russia leave. And who can guarantee their lives if they return? How can anyone ensure they won't be killed or face danger?
I am hopeful because..
Syria has gone through a lot from a hunger crisis during the Assad Regime while currently facing an economic crisis and also trying to rebuild their broken country. Syria needs a lot of help due to the many factors that are affecting them.( Weather, Rodents, thieves, poverty, etc.)
Ahmed al-Sharaa the current leader is said to be a good man with good intentions and willing to help Syria in this hard times, I hope he does that. He has also said that Syria is not a threat to the world.
I am hopeful something good can come out of Syria.
Thank you!!!
I feel concerned for the future of Syria because even though the war is over who knows if the new leader will truly be able to improve Syria. Right now, the country has a lot of damage from the war and a lot of money is needed to fix it. This makes me very worried that the people there might not be able to care for themselves because of the war. I am still on edge about whether the people should be celebrating or worried about what is to come.
A mixture of hopefulness for how handle this civil war but also a mixture of disgust for USA and Russia because it reminds of Vietnam back in days were South Vietnam & North Vietnam like South Korea and North Korea.I hate how they are using Syria as a proxy for their own fighting and battles.I hope that Syria can become stable and come together and agree on how their country should be handled.
I feel hopeful about Syria, now that Asad is gone, Syria has a big chance to use it, but they must use their chance wisely, because this is their only chance for their story to end in peace and democracy. But a concerning thing about Syria is that they are still aren't choosing a worthy leader for their weak country. This makes them an easy target for external forces to close in on Syria and occupy it. Russia is the only force that can really protect Syria, so it must watch out. In conclusion, this is the only chance for Syria to get strong as it was in the old days again, so they must use it.
I agree because we should be optimistic and hopeful about what is happening in Syria. Ahmed al-Sharaa promised Syrians that he would make the country a happier, more free place. We should take his word for this because he hated the Assad family regime and is just like the Syrians. He stepped up to make Syria better place, rescue all poor Syrians and help Syria, not destroy it. We can make Syria better with Ahmed al-Sharaa, the rebel group leader who also didn’t like to be Assad family. I know this because Ahmed al-Sharaa has the qualities to help Syrians, rescue them, improve Syria, rebuild homes. We need to trust that he can do what we want, otherwise where will we get. If Syrians always refuse those who are new and never give them a chance then they won’t get anywhere. Syrians need to let the rebel group leader take control so that we can be hopeful for the future. He will make the country better, he is not the same as the Assad family so just give him a chance and they will get somewhere, which is better than nowhere. Be hopeful for the future.
The satuation in Syria is primarily the result of interferance from other countries that only care about own benefits , without considering the consequences for the Syria people . This ongoing crisis deeply hurts me , as it could have been avoided if these countries had not intervened in the conflict . If they had refrained from supporting faction that served their political goals , the satuation could have been much better today . For example , countries like the United States and other supported the opposition groups , which worsened the satuation and led to the rise of ISIS , taking control of many parts of the country . The consequences of these foreign interventions are not just political but also deeply humanitarian . The Syria people have suffered immensely due to the chaos and instability caused by these external powers . These interventions did not bring peace but rather exacerbated the violence , creating an environment for extremism and terrorism to flourish . Had these countries truly cared about the well being of Syria people , they would have supported peaceful negotiations rather than fueling the war with arms and resources. This crisis highlights the tragic effects of geopolitics , where innocent lives are sacrificed to achieve political goals .
I am hopeful about SYRIA, getting a new president who will rule them and bring peace to the land will really gladden my heart and the hearts of the people of Syria, they will now be able to build their country again. It is important that we take a look at some of some challenges faced by SYRIA before a new president comes into power.
1. Economic challenges; the rate of things are expensive
2. Humanitarian crisis; affects group of people either a threat to their lives
3. Food insecurity; there was no food in the community
4. Education crisis; people didn't have education
5. Gender based violence; gender inequality
I believe the incoming president would have to take a serious look at these challenges, look out for men and women who will help him build the nation.
I feel hopeful and concerned about Syria's current situation because ,there is a possibility that the new authorities in Syria will be able to have a positive impact on Syria and that they will be capable enough to take a step towards democracy for the better . I also feel concerned that there is also a possibility that Syria's new authorities can be as strict and dictatorial as the others who came before. But hopefully maybe they won't be like the others and that they will be able to take Syria on a path towards democracy.
I am genuinely concerned about Syria because loads of people (16 million) are in poverty and need aid and it is not fair for people to be treated like this as high as 620,000 have been killed it is stressful if you go to sleep and you don’t know if you will wake up again
I agree with you, no one should live a life like that and no one has to worry about whether they will still be alive tomorrow
I am feeling surprised by the conditions of Syrian people. Globally, there has been a lot of talk about Syria. My solution would be to conduct an immediate global ceasefire, with the help of organizations like the UN, where several allies will provide Syria with much needed resources like labor, engineers, defense equipment, humanitarian aid to help people out of severe poverty. I think democracy is the way to move ahead, as again shifting to dictatorship can lead to the same problem, which occurred with the Assad Family. I do not think repeating the same choice as in 1971, of opting for a dictator as their leader, is wise by any means. Democracy will provide the freedom to the citizens to criticize the work of the government. I would like you to know that India faced somewhat the same situation, nearly 80 ago where different religious populations were forcing separation of the country. But the Republic of India, after being separated, opted to have a democratic form of government with the national constitution being the godfather of the new Independent India. Now, after taking the risk of forming the constitution, India has managed to climb its way in the top 10 countries in the world. Another such example of South Africa where the democratic government failed to recognize Black people as the citizens denied universal adult franchise. After several rebellions, the government and the first non-racist election were held in 1994. These two examples should inspire Syrians that democracy is the by far the most suitable, flexible and effective form of government for them.
How do you think Syrians can build a stable and fair democracy after everything they've been through?
Hi bright_horse,
I don’t really feel surprised because the civil war had happened for a very long time and it was going to be clear there would be some bad conditions for Syrians in the future after buildings were bombed, prisoners were put in jail and food supply was running low. However, I do feel concerned for the Syrians because they have just got a new, mysterious president they know barely anything about. If I was in that position, I’d be terrified. Though I do agree with you that democracy would be a good way to move ahead, we have to look at both points of view. Holding and election would make the decision fair and just, but there are currently 6.3 million Syrians out of the country so they can’t do that. We have to think of something else we know that would work, something that the evacuees can do as well as the Syrians. I don’t really know but a good idea is to ask for help. Any ideas?
I think that Syria had suffered a lot, and all those people who escaped from their country in hope for a better life. Even though war is over, now is the time to do very important decisions about what will happen next. How to save millions of starving people who don't have their homes, sick and injured people? Everything in Syria is devastated. Everybody deserves free will and a chance to vote for their country. If they change the government and laws so everyone has equal rights, there is a big possibility that Syria can start over. I really hope that people have enough strength for keep fighting for their ideals.
I feel concerned, but not curious but worried. When we did the lesson today, we saw photos of a bomb hospital in Syria, causing damage to the healthcare systems. Next on a slideshow we read that Ahmed was likely going to put religion rules on Syria putting me into more worry. in the end I’m suffering from this feeling of being concerned. I hope the citizens are okay and all my prayers go out to them.
Can you tell me more about what you read on the religion rules?
In the lesson, we did an activity where we had to look around at photos and describe what we think was happening or in the pictures. Then after my teacher let us take turns reading what the pictures actually were. Them soon after having a quick discussion. When it was time to discuss the picture of Ahmed Al Sharaa the photo said that Syrians were scared that he was going to put religion rules on Syria. So during this lesson is where I got the religious rules from.
Well HTS is an organisation inspirded by islam and a majority muslim country , so its a bit logical for them to add religious law :)
From what I see and have observed with Syria’s activities during the Civil War, it is quite stereotypical unlike the U.S.A.. This is because in many of the pictures shown, it is men who fight in the war and women are no where to be seen on the battle ground. This is also because Syria is in the Middle East where everything is old fashion unlike the U.S. where feminism is being fought for. Women in Syria are like housewives and stay-at-home mom to care for kids and their husbands and they are the caretaker of the family and the men are the fighters.
You say that "in the Middle East everything is old fashioned" and imply that feminism isn't being fought for there. You also say that in Syria women are housewives and stay at home mums.
There are lots of assumptions in this comment and I wonder whether some of these are based on stereotypes? Can you have a go at...
1) Finding out how many countries allow women to serve on the front line.
2) Finding examples of Syrian women who have fought for womens' rights
3) Finding examples of what Syrian women do for work outside of the home.
I would love to hear if any of these answers surprise you!
Thank you for pointing this out Olivia@Topical Talk, I've done my research over the past few days and learned that every country allows women to fight on the front line except for two in 2018, Norway and Sweden. I am a little surprised that only two countries don't allow women to fight on the front line. I'm sure that Syrian women have fought for women's rights such as Asya Abdullah. Syrian women work in restaurants, services, and even agriculture. I'm sure there are jobs that women do but these are the main jobs. I wasn't trying to stereotype but I was trying to convey that from my perspective, it seems kind of stereotypical in Syria, but not everything just some.
We are concerned because although there is a new government, we need to ensure leaders have learnt from mistakes and that the new leaders take into account the views of citizens.
I feel bad for the people who lost their homes and family members . Also for the people who are sick and hungry. I also feel quite disappointed because it's not fair because the people from Syria didn't get to vote for who should be the president .I hope that Syria will change to a peaceful country.
In all honestly, I'm genuinely concerned for the well being of Syria and the citizens. They've been going through war for many years; young boys fighting in the war instead of playing tag and hanging out with their friends, young girls having to give up their education for their safety, and parents having to worry about whether or not they'll live to see another day. We do not know what the new president has in store for Syrians, however we do know that we do not want to repeat history and have the Syrians have to go through it again. At the end of the day, even though Syria is across the world from where I live, we can still make an impact and help out by speaking and spreading more information about the situation so that Syrians and they're future generations can have a happy life and won't have to experience the same things that their mothers or fathers went through.
i feel very concerned about the place and I think the new leader" Ahmed al-sharraa" shouldn't be a leader because he sends people to jail when they disagree with him and when they disagree with him he sends them to jail and in jail they get killed. I personly think that's not ok because if a young child disagree's like" 12 or 13" they will also be sent to jail and get killed. It's not fair for young children to get killed and have short life. The country is in deep danger already with the war and i feel like he is making it wores and lots of people died in that jail beacuse of the war. Almost half a million people died in that war and got killed because of that.
i feel concernd because a lot of people have died because of the family and the peoplewho died cant come back and it was only because of that corrupt leader . i think that the familys of the people that died should get money or soemthing that can help them through there time of saddnest . also im concernd about what the new prime minster because he might be corrupt like the last one because he might be just as crazy as the last one and if he is then there might be a cival war agian and nobody want more people to die
I feel concerned about what is happening in Syria because some people are poor and don't have any money and people treat them with disrespect like there nothing . And the old leader of Syria locked people up for doing something against him like smoking and while there in there he kills them but when people do something bad you always deserve a second chance no matter what you did. I also feel sorry for them because they are at war with Russia I hope to see in the news that Syria is safe now
About Syria Im concered because this treacherous civil war happened because half of the people didn't agree and they might have been loved ones from families and they die just because they disagreed, in my opinion honestly i think the other half agreed with the old president of Syria because they didn't wanna get locked up and die like the rest and this killed millions or thousands of people as the previous president of Syria reigned Syria for 50 years and got away by killing millions and thousands of innocent lives just because they didn't agree with him they even locked up and killed teenagers or kids that had a long life in front of them.
I think it is good that Syria will have a new leader because the old leader was horrible to the people in Syria lived in poverty so i think it will be good for the people in Syria to have a better life . I also think the new leader will help the society.
After watching the video in which Mr. Gregg explained of what Syrians have gone through, what I observe is that there is a ruling strategy going on in the country. First the Assad's were in power, and now the rebel groups. Moreover, some people want religion to be the way for their governance. So, for this matter, I have a grave concern for the country of Syria. I hope that the Syrians raise their voice and so choose democracy as their government.
The Syrians have faced Dictatorship for many and many years and so they should get free from these troubles and make democracy compulsory for their country. In this way elections can be held, everyone can vote for what THEY think is right and try to give their country's future a bright start.
THANK YOU
I feel concerned about what happened to the people of Syria during the civil war. Many people had to flee from their homes because of the war which is not quite alright if I should say. War is not something that most people like to experience at all because lots of activities in the country might shut down like going to school, and this might greatly have effect on poor people. War causes destruction, insecurity, reduces population of a country and so on. The war started due to not handing over power to another person or lineage which citizens of the country do not like. Citizens are meant to be happy and not think of ways to flee from their country to other places that are better than theirs, if somebody wants to rule in a country it should be based on the minds and opinions of the citizens, so that things like war would not start.
I feel really concerned for the poor Syrians having just ended a war and a new president that they hardly know anything about. Ahmed al-Sharaa could turn out to be a really strict disciplinarian who enforces unfair religious rules and becomes worse than the other family of presidents. It must also be really horrible for the Syrians whose loved ones are lost and they have to search all around the world for them. Really, it’s just not fair! Having just concluded a civil war, an untrustworthy president being elected, people in Syria must have no clue what to do. Let’s not forget those who escaped or evacuated. They are not in Syria at the moment so they only get clues from newspapers about what’s going on, which will definitely not give them satisfaction. It’s a serious, concerning matter that needs to be dealt with as soon as possible.
I am way too surprised to even react to this as I never thought Syria would be in this kind of situation and I never thought that the people were serving football and military I also want to reply to amicable fly As I agree with you and how I also feel concerned I feel a mix of emotions And I also feel really bad for the people that are in starvation Because they don't deserve this kind of feature to them And I am actually questioning Why the government started it cause that it has got me really concerned as I'm feeling the government( al-Assad)did it for no reason and also put people in prison for no reason. I am also disgusted by his behaviour and I hope that there WILL BE a turning point
Thanks for listening and have a good day 😊
I feel an immense amount of concern for the citizens of Syria as well as the refugee. If the country does have an election in the end, due to the countries dark past and extreme brain washing, a lot of citizens might instead of choosing a leader that cares for them, will elect a man who puts religious values on the highest pedestal. Not only this, the safety of Syrian refugees isn't guaranteed in other countries for long, as after a matter the heads of the countries are sure to raise judgement on the staying of the refugees and might decide to abandon them or mistreat them as a whole, another matter of concern regarding the refugees is that, if the new leader decides to take back all the citizens who seeked asylum in other countries, those people will be forced to abandon their livelihoods and will be back in poverty. I sincerely hope that if a election is conducted in the near future, the leader chosen, will be the one who truly cares for his citizens.
I feel very hopeful about what's happening in Syria. With the Assad family out of the picture and a new leader coming into the picture I'm very hopeful. With people getting locked up for protesting, or being killed, or even becoming homeless from all of the destruction, Syria was in bad shape. People went without aid or basic care. The new leader should be elected by the people because he says he will bring new life to the country. He will protect the people because he fought on their behalf as a rebel. The Syrians are headed for a better future. That's why I'm hopeful.
Syria's situation is really sad and complicated. It started in 2011 when people wanted more freedom and a better life. When the government refused to listen, protests turned into a war.The country broke into pieces, with the government and rebel groups fighting for control. Many countries like Russia and the U.S. got involved, making the conflict even more complex, like two sides of a playground fight with everyone else joining in.
ISIS also took advantage of the chaos, causing even more violence.
People especially kids lost their homes, families, and futures.
Many fled to other countries, becoming refugees. Countries like Turkey and Lebanon took them in,but the strain was huge. The UN and other groups have tried to help, but peace is hard to find with so many sides involved.
Despite all this, there's hope. Syrians are trying to rebuild and survive.
The international community can make a difference by focusing on peace, providing aid,and ensuring that Syrians have a chance to rebuild their lives. It's a reminder that everyone, no matter where they live, deserves safety and a future.
I am genuinely concerned about what is going on in Syria right now. Although the war has finally come to an end, a lot of destruction and havoc has fallen upon Syria, making it hard to rebuild the great country they had before having the almost 15 year long war. Many individuals who fled Syria feel as if it is still not safe nor stable enough for them to return to Syria, while others are still grieving the lost of the various people that have tragically passed away during the violent protests that happened before and during the war. I am concerned whether they will be able to make a comeback in time enough for everyone to remain in a suitable place to live off of in the comfort of their own country.
I feel hopeful for what is happening in Syria currently as they have the potential to rebuild a better government. The people rebelled for a reason and I am confident that they can create solutions to past and current problems without people being negatively impacted by war. With this new beginning, I hope that the people of Syria can unite and create a better government for everyone.
Its unfortunate that so many lives were taken but I do feel hopeful for Syria because the dictatorship that was once established is now overthrown by a group of people who felt oppressed. This courage from the people of Syria makes me hopeful for the future of the country
Overall, we feel hopeful that a new government will bring about democracy, but we also feel some concern because there is no guarantee that the new government will be effective and welcoming to all. There should also be separation between religion and laws in order to encourage freedom of religion. People can practise whatever religion they want in private and the laws should not affect that.
I personally can’t believe about what is happening there has been so many terrible terrible wars! For example ww2 millions of people died and we still haven’t learned to live in peace it amazes me that leaders can’t work together it would save so many lives and now that the Assad family is no longer in power I fear for the rights and lifestyles of the Israeli women because there is quite a large chance that they could be affected by the new leader seen as how his preference of lifestyle seems to be I can only say what I already know about this new leader but I think that they should have an election to make it fair for all the citizens of Israel to make it a safe and happy place to live once again will take a lot of work and time but one thing that is very important is how is controlling it and no one is going to live there if the leader is not fair to both genders and all identities in Israel women and girls all females should be treated fairly and have the exact same rights as all of the men do anywhere and everywhere they should be able to go to school and be educated and I also think that all Israelis deserve a respectable leader to help them rebuild their lives and make the country happy once again
i am really upset about what is happening in the world so i am deeply concerned about Syria i have recently been reading a book about a war in Syria - no ballet shoes in Syria - about a young girl who has to evacuate to the UK
i really hope it doesn't go on for much longer as wars are so very very bad. i think it is so sad that people have to leave their homes and that their family members are dying i would pray for their safety even if you aren't christian.
thank you - fantastic_ostrich
Citing the recent turning point for Syria which is shifting from dictatorship to democracy. I am very concerned about the happenings in Syria, as mentioned in the video many people argue that the new laws should be made and amended according to the framework of religion however some disagree, if such argument continues, the wounded Syria could also witness another civil war however if the situation is handled at such premature stage then it can be solved. I am also deeply concerned about what lies next for the Syrians since they have just broken the shackles of dictatorship and have entered a new era of democracy, what the new government would be like, will it listen to people or just repeat the old mistakes. What spikes my concern further is the instability and trauma that the country has faced, necessary aid should be provided to the Syrians and the assurance that their future is safe now. I deeply express my concern over the losses the country has faced and my condolences to those who have lost their loved ones and hope that they can recover from their losses .
I feel so bad for the people that went through all of that chaos in Syria. It is also very unfair how the Assad family just came and ruled over Syria in 1971 and then in 2011 President Bashar al-Assad's regime started a civil war and killed over half a million people. It did not only kill over half a million people, but it also destroyed many buildings, including schools and hospitals which left people in basic services and in need of help. Luckily for them, in December 2024 Syrian rebel groups gained control of the capital also ending President Assad's rule. Assad left the country and was granted asylum in Russia. After Assad fled, a lot of Syrians went to prisons wishing to find their loved ones. Then, Ahmed al-sharaa who was a rebel leader, became Syria's new leader. Some think he will be a fresh start to the country but others think he might introduce strict religious rules. There are a lot of decisions to make that will decide the future of that country but I wish Syria the best.
I feel deeply concerned about Syria and I also think that Syria is unfair because the people (the Assad-Family) that used to rule Syria were dictators from 1971 from 2011 and started random Civil wars that kills over half a million people each year.Unfortunately , people that live in Syria are going through Asylum.I also think that the new President of Syria is a bad person, because he is very strict, has religious rules, and because he is making women wear Hijabs and cover.Even though, Syria is at a big turning point and a lot of decisions are being made. I hope they are good decisions, but I wish them the best.
I'm a bit uncertain of what i feel about Syria right now.. I'm torn between hopeful, sad and concerned. I feel hopeful as i anticipate that the rebel leaders will do way better than the Assad family and will be successful in bringing a positive change in their country! but then, i feel sad as it's a bit unfair how they took over; i believe Syrian people should unite together and plan something mutually beneficial and should be allowed to choose their own leader. And I feel concerned as some people are encouraging the idea of creating a government based on religion, which i think won't be much helpful, it will just cause more discrimination and fovuritism which will lead to more civil wars.
Although it is still unsure what the new Syrian government will do for the country, I, personally, am hopeful that the land of Syria will experience their turning point in a positive light and are given the freedom and aid they deserve. The people have struggled for fifty years and went through an incredibly dangerous situation during the civil war. This alone has stirred my emotion on the situation. The people have went through all of this and still held up strong. Not to mention that Ahmed al-Sharaa, the man who many people wanted to become president, was apart of the people. If he were to achieve this role then there is a very high chance the people will be able to live a positive life.
I feel very devastated about what happened to Syria. I can’t imagine my country being at war. I am also concerned about how the people are going to survive. It is a very chaotic place, which is full of broken buildings, damaged hospitals and shattered schools. So it is probably very hard to live there. They also don’t have a president and many opportunities.
I usually wouldn’t care about topics like this, but seeing all the bombing and deaths upsets me. Especially for kids and underaged people, babies and toddlers might have lost their parents at the moment. Which is unfair, if I were to be a mother I wouldn’t like my children to suffer without me. Not just that but people that were hoping to get a brighter future to help their economy could have died or not be able to do so anymore. Everyone should be able to live in peace and not to endure torture.
In my opinion I think that what Syria is going through is horrible. The people in Syria need a new leader after all the things they are going through there are still 23.23 million people. I think that it is important for them to build schools. If the kids do not have school they don’t get an education.
Although I am hopeful that the conflict in Syria will be over, I am mostly angry at Bashar al-Assad, who is the former ruler of Syria. The future of Syria would have been better if he had listened to what his citizens wanted. Ever since Abdul Halim Khaddam passed away and Bashar al-Assad took over, the country has been in chaos. He imprisoned innocent citizens, just for going against him. Sometimes, he even ordered them to be killed.
When I heard about this horrible war, I immediately felt devastated for the children and hospitalized. These innocent citizens are living in poverty and oppression from the rebellious acts of others. If Assad becomes president, there is no foretelling the unfortunate events the people of Syria will go through. My condolences to the innocent people having to suffer in their own home, some without one anymore.
Honestly, I have mixed feelings. First of all, I feel really proud of them in the aspect that they have been able to stand together against the regime, they have been able to make things change. However, it is really sad to see how people have lost everything due to a civil war. After they struggle this devastating period, citizens life's have been completely destroied and it is something that makes me feel bad
I am very angry, how can someone be that selfish for power, that they can destroy their own country, launch missiles to their own people, and then leave, just like that, its not fair that he was having fun trying to control people and then leave them with nothing, absolutely nothing, no homes, no schools, hospitals, food, and leave in a palace like he's done nothing, he doesn't deserve to live in that peace, with that confort, after what he caused to his country and what he made live to others citizens. I think it was a total hell, with no aid, no place to sleep, no food. He lefts his country with nothing, his people, his home. He destroyed all of that.
I feel very bad about all the people who had to face the Assad's family regime because there are families which have lost their homes and probably many family members.Even though I don't like to talk about these topics or about wars, just because I can't understand how they can still happening in the 21st century, I think is important that us, students and childrens, raise our voices and talk about these to be noticed because the only thing these conflicts do is to harm people, most of them children. Beside all, I feel hopeful for Syria's future and I hope they never have to presence any type of government problems, although they still don't know how the new leaders will be.
It wont affect me directly but the fact that a listed terrorist organization who used to be affiliated with Al-Qaeda is in charge of a country, probably shouldn't happen
I feel very sad about what is going on due the amount of people who died, the refugees and bombed building. It is also quite sad how long the civil war has gone on for. This war could be named as one of the worst wars as it is against the same country and basically gone on for our whole lifetime.I predominantly hope that the country changes the way they behave and makes peace with each other.
I feel happy that the war is over but at the same time not happy because some Syrians are being forced to go back to Syria and the people think that there will be strict religious rules and no one wants to live in a country/world with strict rules because you want to be as free as a bird.
i feel that syria should stop the war and come together i hope that syria dose come together and can be a family again because we are not alone in this world
I am deeply worried and glad for Syria my reasoning is, they might get stuck with the wrong president and get stuck with rules that they cant change, but also glad for the Syrians that they've found there freedom and the will get treated better hopefully then some of them did.
I am caught in the middle because i am very hopeful for Syria's new begining as it is like restarting a new country and hopefully there will be no more wars that Syria are involved in in my lifetime. I am hoping that the rebels can change Syria and help them recover from this tragic war.
I am also a little worried because they are still recovering from this war . They still need help to get back to the way things were before .They have still got low food storage and many medical buildings have been bombed during this war. There are still prisoners from the Ahamed al-Sharaa regime that are lost and living below the poverty line.
overrall i still have hope for Syria I believe that they can have a fresh start and change for the better.
I feel deep concern for the Syrian people. Upon hearing Gregg's video, I was reminded of their struggles: They couldn't criticize their government for their inequitable treatment, they couldn't take power in order to have a better life, and they were treated like a "belonging" of the Assad's, regardless of being HUMAN BEINGS. Despite now being free of the Assad's 50 year reign and free of Bashar al-Assad's regime, now they're left with the mess they left behind. The Syrian people were left in humanitarian need, left without homes, schools, and hospitals. They don't even have enough food to properly sustain themselves. It brings me so much sorrow to think about all the Syrians who were forced to flee from their homes to avoid the regime and remain safe, only having to return to the mess of impoverishment, scarce food, and little to nothing of their cities. Furthermore, they were left governess. Despite the rebel leader, Ahmed al-Sharaa taking over, I'm concerned for their future. I'm worried that Ahmed al-Sharaa won't keep his promises towards the Syrian people and that history will repeat itself. Above being refugees or Syrians, they're human beings who've been so affected by everything that's happened, they've suffered enough, way more than they should've needed to. I'm concerned for their well-being, but all we can do is hope that Ahmed al-Sharaa will keep his promises sine he, firsthand, fought back and witnessed the injustice himself of a cruel governor.
I am concerned as Syria should have the vote of their government. They should also be able to stay where they are if they are concerned about their country and do not feel comfortable going back to their country.
I agree because…it all makes sense how the government should like make things fair and keeping everyone safe putting them in shelter yeah it is true you may be uncomfortable going out to the country and protecting yourself and others.
I fill very sorry for them they got no home and they have to stay with us and we don’t want them to stay so we say they should go back to there home and we are wrong we should let them stay with us until there home is built why do we kick them out well we do because they are not allowed there but we let them in and that was good of us but people kick them out and that is not good so let them in.
I am not particularly happy with what’s going on in Syria as they have been through a deadly war with Israel. War is not the answer it changes life’s people have to migrate to different countries when they could just be living a happy and peaceful life. We should have a world with peace. War changes peoples life’s it ruins their country and can cause loss of lives. We should not be doing this. Country’s should come together and create peace and harmony. War is not the answer. We should always be able to wake up and feel good about ourselves and not wake up scared that your house is potentially going to get bombed or not wake and feel your country is getting ruined.
One of the facts that made me concerned about the war in syria was the rebel who are the reason there are refugees. For those who don’t know rebel groups are those who think they’re in charge and tell people what to do but haven’t been elected those people are the type of people who we don’t need Anymore those those people are the people who like to destroy buildings and do whatever they like and don’t let other people have a say in what they want for the country and another thing I would really like to talk about is debating personally I don’t think this they should start debating because half 6 million people in Syria I’ve had to leave for the home and seek asylum so those people that fleeed from their home don’t get to vote and it is really unfair and concerning what if those refugees don’t get granted asylum? They then no longer have anywhere to stay so that they are living out on the streets and they get rejected again and the US and Russia may add more trouble to that war because Russia supports the former Syria president while the US doesn’t support the former Syria president the US thinks the former Syria president are releasing chemical gasses
And now to the most important thing who do we support
Thank you for taking time to read this comment
Yours sincerely

If Syrian rebel groups were to take control of the country after over 50 years of rule by the Assad family, it would certainly mark a historic turning point. I think this event could provide opportunities for Syria’s future such as a new political system, a transition to democracy could give Syrians the ability to vote for their leaders in an election. There would be independent branches of governance to prevent a dictatorship from forming again. Therefore, a democratic system would need to ensure fair representation for all, preventing one group from dominating others.
I feel really sad and bad for the people who are living in Syria and it is very hard for us to see what is happening. Their country is being destroyed and buildings are being damaged and not being repaired. the Syrians must be angry and heartbroken
I’m deeply disappointed in the way the regime is treating the country as it is making the Syria evacuate the country and they are refugees and asking for asylum and protection from their own country.
A feel really sorry for Syria because the need to flee from there homes and leave their homes and leave there love ones behind. They have to learn a brand new language and live in a brand new home a brand new school (if it’s a child) which is really sad also hundreds of people have died.
Your sincerely emotional-orchard
According to me, the rule of Assad family were marked by several violence in nature. It is really an incident which marks a stunning violence in Syria. Many people in Syria are in the trap of trouble because of the violent impacts which was created by the Assad rule. Peoples are fighting to get back their rights and basic needs like food and water. They are troubling because of the violent activities of Assad rule. I felt heart broken by seeing this , but one single incident astonished me completely, is that, The rule of Assad family came to an end because of the sound of shouting, with holding placards of people from Syria,to stop the rule of Assad family and release them from the trap of trouble. First it brokes my heart, but now, I feel happy hearing the end of Assads. This is really unbelievable. For me, it's just a thundering turning point....
I feel very sorry for the people in Syria because they have had to leave their home because of war, danger and fear.If they don't get what they need they will die and there won't be much people living in Syria. They need water to keep hydrated, food to not starve to death and cloths to not get to cold.
I am actually very surprised because they need to a civil war and the president was the worst. They treated if they can do something wrong or something that the president does not like they have to jail. And I think they are like us because Donald Trump wanted to send all the Mexican immigrants back to Mexico. Also he want to go to war for no reason but the other country went to war. Adittenaly the country did not even have the jails clean it was all rustuy and some tryed to escape and others escape because they wanted to see there loved ones. That is the is what I think of Syria. An I was realy surprise of what was happening in Syria
I feel bad for Syria because the president of Syria didn't listen to the people of Syria because of his love for greed. He probably even said that he would protect this country from danger, but then doesn't pay attention to the people of Syria. Its also very sad that millions of people had died due to the civil war. It's also very sad to imagine walking in Syria and getting shot because of the war. Also, knowing that your parents will be looking for you, not knowing you are dead.
How I feel about what's going on in Syria right now is concerned. I say this because some of the Syrian people are feeling skeptical about the new leader and don't trust him. This could lead to the people protesting against the leader and demanding that he should not be the leader. If they don't find a new leader in time before the Syrians start the civil war, there would be no one to help pay fines or rebuild any of the apartments, hospital, homes or schools. This leads to another point. If prisons don't get rebuilt, then prisoners can escape and commit more crimes. Many innocent people that didn't want anything to do with the war or any fight at all might end up getting severely hurt or kidnapped and forced into the war. Which could cost them their lives. This is why I'm feeling concerned about what's going on in Syria right now.
I feel concerned for Syria because of the millions of people suffering from poverty and health issues. After the civil war the access to important needs such as food and shelter. the lack of such basic human needs causes sickness and since there isn't any available medical buildings in Syria because of the amount of damage done. Also, since Syria is going to be under a new government that offers promises that can rebuild the community and help people back onto their feet I think that they should ask the 6.3 million syrians who sought shelter in other countries if they agree with the new policies the remaining syrians will be under.
I am very concerned about what is happening in Syria because with the hospital being destroyed because of the civil war, people can't feed their children or getting the help they need for themselves and their kids. Even with the people in prison being killed and the prison being unclean is not a safe environment. If the people in Syria do not get the help they need, they won't have long to live in that country. I am very proud of the people who escaped Syria because through all the things they've been thought they need to get into a safe environment.
Actually I agree because I would feel the same way. People can’t be healed from danger if there is no hospitals or heal from not knowing a lot from school being shut down and bombed.
We all heard about all that is happening in Syria, and it’s not difficult to guess that this will be an important change for the future of all the area and external countries: a civil war, a lot of deaths, freedom… But, which is my point of view from this situation and how I'm feeling about all this news?
I would say that I'm feeling mostly concerned. Is this liberation a turning point for Syria? In my opinion, a big one, but it’s too early to know what is exactly going to happen in these few months.
To continue with, will Syrians really be able to enjoy the freedom they are willing to? After doing some research, I doubt it. Syria has had a big cultural importance for hundreds of years. And this is not the only reason to explain why some developed countries (Turkey, Israel, Russia...) want to take advantage of this situation. Therefore, we are talking about a lot of external and powerful country’s interests.
In addition, I'm also worried about the future of women's rights. We all know how that is going in some other countries (for example, in Afghanistan), so, how will all this situation end up?
Finally, I would like to add that Syrians should be able to choose their government and future through elections, because, in my opinion, it is the most fair way to fix all this situation, taking into account that they are the ones that will have to endure the elected government.
But, the most important thing about all this is that the end never justifies the means. And that is an important knowledge all humans should know about.
In my opinion it is a huge turning point for Syria as they are in the middle of the civil war and many people don't have houses as they've all been knocked down
There food is rationed for them there are starving children in Syria
This just shows how lucky some of us are
Hello everyone,
Currently I am hopeful about what has happened in Syria over the past few months. Let me tell you why. I am hopeful about Syria because now the country will be able to have a democracy which means they will be able to choose how and who they want to run there country. It will also mean less hostility towards the people of Syria as their leaders aren't dictators anymore. Also like Gregg said it will positive consequences on other countries too as Syria has been in the middle of conflict for lots of years so now they have a new government it will enable the country to have less wars or hostility. They also have a chance to rebuild their country the way they want it with no wars or hostility which will harm or hurt the people because the Assad family is gone. Therefore, I think Syria has a bright future ahead of them and that we should hope for the best.
I am so happy that Syria has gained democracy. Now that syria has gained democracy, I am sure Syrians are very happy.
I have mixed feelings towards what is happening in Syria, a mix of worry and happiness. I'm happy that finally Syrians will be free. They deserve to enjoy a more democratic climate after years of dictatorship under the rule of president Al-Assad. Many Syrians suffered injustice under Al-Assad's rule. I really feel sad for the Syrians who have suffered because of the destruction and poverty that Syria faced all these years.
I feel devastated with the living conditions of Syria currently, and strongly believe that such a developed world should not allow this to continue happening, However, I am pleased that there is a spark of hope for this country, and I pray that someone takes that chance to make Syria change for the better.
Now that Assam Regime has gone Syria have granted a one time wish to rebuild Syria to make it a democratic place when nobody has to suffer any more. However Syria need to help all of the injured people missing people and rebuild harmful cities and towns. Hopefully now that Bashar AI Assad is the leader Syria should have a fresh start.
Syria does not deserve all of these wars they deserve peace and to not to be afraid in their own country. I think now that Bashar AI Assad should help all the struggling people and get them food water and shelter before they rebuilding new towns and city's . As I person at school i think we are very lucky to have a roof over our heads and i am very grateful.
Syria has undergone a significant change after more than 50 years of rule by the Assad family . Many people are celebrating hoping for a fresh start , but others are still unsure whether the things will truly get better. I feel happy for those who see this as a new beginning , but at the same time I worry about what will come next. History has shown that sudden change in power can sometimes bring more problems instead of peace. One thing that concerns me is that whether the new leaders will be able to keep the country united. In the places like Libya , after its leader was removed , different groups started fighting for the control over country , and instead of peace , the country faced a lot chaos and problems. Still seeing people celebrating in the streets give me hope . Maybe this is the start of something better. If the new government can bring peace, protect the rights of people , and improve the lives of everyone , then this could be a huge step towards the brighter future for Syria. I just really hope that this change leads to something good and not more struggles.
Does supporting Syrian refugees lead to a burden for other countries? Is al sharaa truthful? Is Syria safe ? After having the ratio of Sunni and Shia Muslims as 79%to 14% can voting be democratic or say appropriate. All these questions rely on the leader al sharaa but but but I don’t think he will be truthful because all 5.5 million Syrians are out of country and the remaining are mostly fearless rebels in support of Al sharaa .Therefore according to me I am really concerned because they leader isn’t trustful , other countries might kick refugees anytime and the religious boundaries are in the way of voting.
I have many mixed emotions about what's happening in Syria. I hope that Syrians could help fix the country and help each other grow the community bigger and greater. But, the new president of Syria could make things even worse than the Civil War. He could make even more strict rules than the Assads. They should add a lot of things to the country to make Syria more safer. Like voting, more supplies for the poor, etc. I hope the Syrians can fix their mistakes, but it's a matter of if they can even see the mistakes. The people of Syria have a chance at building up a new beginning, and I hope that they will take it.
I like this comment, but could you explain what you mean by "it's a matter of if they can even see the mistakes". If you explained this in more depth, I think it would be a great comment.
l feel hopeful that this is going to be over soon and to see the people happy again
I feel that the new leader (Ahmed al-shara) is going to make promises that he isn’t going to keep he will end up taking the refugees back to Syria and he will rebuild the city. Although there might be a down side to him there is also hope because he might not be as bad as we all think he might rescue people and he could make a difference.
I am very concerned as this war has been going on for about 15 years now and it has impacted the community sufficiently and is creating serious arguments across the world as over 6.3 million have migrated out of Syria and are seeking asylum.
And l will like to see a better president
‼️ My concerns are still high because of the war in Syria and that their are still under a sense of danger. ‼️
They are all still weak and are traumatised of the deaths and bombing ! A small ending doesn’t remove the suffering that these people have experienced and endured. I still stay hopeful for a happy ending to their country and hearts for they are still an important start to this world and are poor citizens with no home, no food, and no economy!
In my opinion , I feel hopeful because even though there is a war you need some hope, without it you will be sad all the time. And that there will be peace ☮️ in their homeland . I feel sad for the people who have lost their loved ones and resources. I hope the new government will make Syria a better place for the people.
I would like to see a better government in Syria.
I would like to see a better government in Syria.
Hello this I am courage and I thought about so happy because Syria had finally had peace and democracy. I wish Syria good luck in finding a leader to regain their unique population.
I feel concerned about Syria. I mean how would YOU feel if there was a Civil War in your country? I would feel scared and concerned for others. If you were in charge what would you do? Kick the teams leaders out of Syria? Abandon the country and let there be chaos everywhere? Or would you just flee and hide? Or maybe even go to another country and become a Refugee? Or would you give up? 🤷♀️
If you had the cure to the war what would you do?
If you leave you would survive and be happy 😃
Or would you stay and all be together❤️
Would you just watch those you love get hurt?😭
Or move away and pray for your country?🇸🇾🙏🏻
YOU CHOOSE!!!!
Tell us what you think!
I think that the Syrians can stay if they are comfortable because you wouldn’t like it if your parents told you “ pack your stuff we’re going back.” To Syrian because you would be comfortable and had already made your self at home.
I feel sad for what is happening in Syria.
In my opinion, I feel disappointed towards the civil war for the Syria civilians since they didn’t have a choice to leave before the war
In my opinion, I feel concerned about the people and the homes in Syria. I think the ones who have traveled should stay safe in that country. They might want to stay since they might feel a lot safer in that country but I think another countries still join up with Syria and give items like food water and send over medical help to the people who need it. I feel hopeful for the future.
I’m am so happy because Syria had finally had peace and democracy. I wish Syria good luck in finding a leader to regain their unique population.
In my opinion I am hopeful about what is happening in Syria🇸🇾
as it could be a turning point for Syria🇸🇾 with a new leader in charge that could change the country for good
I think that the war (that might still be going on) has made (or has already) a huge impact on the Syrian people who had to migrate because their homes were in the middle of a no-mans land( a place that is for war fightings) as it was severely dangerous for them especially children,
It has also impacted on many other countries as some people have turned them down so if people wont let people who’s homes are endangered then they will get hated a lot and more wars would start and all community’s wont have anywhere safe to stay. It doesn’t cost anything to be kind and help others out. Goodbye❤️
In my opinion, Syria is in great danger still because the government might shift their focuses and ignore the health of their people. The government of Syria has the power to force them into greater sadness and fear for they are concerned for the government can be under the impression of power and worthiness upon them selves-not thinking twice about they’re people and impressions. But they also are still able to re verse they’re country into what it was before, leaving no home or love.
In my opinion … I think that everyone could have there own voice and speak you’re word and believe in there and wish Syria would just have peace in the world
I feel genuinely concerned for the safety of the civilians in Syria. What would happen if another war happened? Would they have no shelter? Will they be safe? I feel surprised that the war destroyed all of their homes, hospitals and schools. I hope they will get all of their buildings back
In my opinion,I feel sad for Syria and of that they have been through a lot for these years and didn’t have food , water and shelter and comfort and it’s not right for them to be through all that pain of losing there loved ones the most important people in there life and I think they should stay where they are because in Syria there is no hospitals, schools and they home has been ruined from the war
I feel very sorry for Syria especially the ones that lost loved ones due to the civil war and brutalness of the Assad family. This nation has gone through about 50 years of dictatorship of Assad Regime but the situation is still dire. 25.6 million people need aid and need a new government. I myself think that there is going to be an election to vote for the leader/president for Syria.
In my personal opinion, I am very concerned and curious to see Syria's outcome, as it has only been about two months. To start, I am amazed that groups of rebels took a stand for themselves and fought against their rulers: The Assad family. Recovery will require perseverance and strength, but the Syrians will find a way to make Syria home. Hopefully refugees will come back to Syria and help remake Syria again, whether it’s helping provide food, help with governmental problems as in finding out what type of government they want, or help rebuild syria. Even though Syria is in blue times, I trust that Syria will become even more beautiful than it already was.
I am deeply concerned about what Syria’s next step will be. Will they try to get things settled with the government or will they focus on the people’s needs? I personally think they should focus on containing a stable government before taking care of the people’s needs. The reason I think this is because building a stable government would help with poverty even more. But in the end I just hope things get better.
I feel surprised and angry, people should know how to control themselves, while they’re hurting over millions of people or Syrians. I never expected such a horrible action from a person, but although Syria got a chance to rebuild themselves and start fresh. I’m surprised, because the people had to experience 12 years of war. People left, because it was too dangerous for them, and it’s their homeland. Even though the rebel groups had taken over, some Syrians still are too scared to return back to Syria.
I feel like Syrian citizens should vote on who should be the president. And poor people should be able to have all the food and shelter they need. Also the government should be able to help and give reasons why some people should not be the president.I also feel like some of the buildings need to be rebuilt.
Based on what I have learned in my class lessons and from the video, I am feeling a mix of anger and concern for Syria's well being. First off, over half of Syria's population is either in poverty or in need of serious medical attention which is very concerning for any country. Then, they have just gotten rid of a leader who caused a twelve year civil war in their country, so their government is not very strong right now. My anger in this situation is that how could this have happened? Why did this have to happen? A twelve year civil war? That is simply horrible. A man like that and his family ruled for over 50 years and no one could do anything. Sixteen million people lost their lives because of an unfit ruler. Hoepfully, Syria can earn their strentgh back with a new ruler.
I feel angry about what is happening in Syria because of how they were treated. If that was me then my life would probably be horrible, and plus the same people that have power for 50 years will be boring in my opinion.
I hope Ahmed al-Sharaa of Syria will treat the people well, and give the people what they deserve. I also hope the new leader Ahmed al-Sharaa will keep his promise, and not lie or be a bad leader.
I am very sorry and angry for everyone in Syria. Mainly because the people in Syria were most likely left homeless because of the war. They also have no food or water due to the war that just ended. Imagine having the same family run your state for 50 years, wouldn't that be horrible? if I had the same president for 50 years mistreating me I would be angry. So I am very happy that they fought back and won.
The Fall of the Assad regime in Syria has parallelled several recent political changes, but the closest example is the fall of Muammar Gaddafi in Libya(2011)
Gaddafi ruled libya as a dictator after coming to power in 1969. In 2011,, the wave of the "Arab Spring" movements also hit Libya🇱🇾 and leading to an uprising against Gaddafi. NATO military intervention enabled the rebels to seize power and Gaddafi was killed in October 2011.
Althought libya hoped to start a new after Gaddafi's fall, the country was plagaed by political chaos and fighting between rebel groups. At one point, the conflict intensified.
In the following years, libya was unable to stabilize due to internal conflicts, power struggles and the intervention of international powers.
The incident is similar to the current situation in Syria. After the fall of the Assad regime, Syria may face similar challenges———
1. Internal conflict
2.political instability
3. struggles between different groups for power.
The question now is,,, will Syria fall into chaos like Libya🇱🇾,,,or will they be able to build a stable political system ❓
.......thank you.......
The reason why I chose " something else" is because I have mixed feelings towards the Syrian situation. I couldn't choose just one option . I feel concerned about what the future holds for our dear Syrian citizens, will there be a new , fair president that serves their country and citizens with love and care? Or will the same scenario that happened since 1971 with the Assad family happen again? I am deeply concerned about what will happen as this decision is a real turning point that will depend what the future of Syria will look like. Will it be a bright future or one surrounded by injustice ?
I also feel angry of what Bashar Al Assad did to the country. A whole country was ruined as a result of his doings. What made me most angry was how he normally left the country behind after all of what he did like a coward.
On the other hand, We still need to be more optimistic and hopeful for a better future that holds justice, equality and faith for Syria. As an Egyptian, I have some Syrian friends that live in Egypt so I always hope that their homeland remains safe and secure.
As Gregg Carlstorm mentioned, Syrians are currently having some disagreements of who should lead their country making this a balanced argument that includes two opinions, who is right? Which opinion should be chosen? And should there be a third opinion on this debate ?
I would like to advise our dear Syrian people to choose their new president wisely in order to live a peaceful and fair life.
I am feeling happy for Syria after the war stopped and everything is settled now not just this but we shall not forget about what happened in Syria and I feel really bad for what had happened especially for the citizens who either had left their country to save their lives or died during the war. I am genuinely angry too because why do innocent people who are living their lives peacefully have to suffer the most because of the country's political issues? I mean this is just not right , those poor people had to leave their motherland to save their lives and settle in a completely new country and start over their lives leaving their jobs, businesses, friends and family behind. In the end I am happy for them and hoping that they rebuild a stronger and better country and hope the citizens choose the best leader who works honestly for their country and them. WISHING SYRIA THE BEST FOR UPCOMING TIMES.
You’ve highlighted the struggles of the people in Syria and the importance of rebuilding for a brighter future. Do you think other countries have a responsibility to help?
I believe that other countries first have a duty to make sure that their citizens are satisfied with the policies and working of their own government. Many countries infact are struggling with their funds. Apart from that many countries work in an 'ally' 'rival' relationship because of which things get complicated. So, overall, countries can definitely help Syria, however it depends on their ability to do so. They might have a responsibility to help the world but they can't be forced to do so. With that said, the world would obviously be a better place if countries help eachother but there are various factors that determine whether a country should help others or not, which range from diplomatic relations to personal country development.

I feel hopeful and concerned about Syria. After the Syrians fought for 13 years against Assad, they finally won, meaning that the Syrians now have peace and freedom instead of being ruled by Assad. However, I am concerned because after the war, most buildings in Syria have been destroyed such as houses and hospitals. Also, some of the people of Syria have been injured and their food has been shortened. In the end, we should hope for the best for Syria.
I feel that Syria is most definitely getting a chance to restart and reset their country after over 50 years of being under the Assad family’s rule along with war. Although this is a chance to reset the country, they can still ruin themselves for the future if they put the wrong rules, policies, and people in charge. Due to the lack of leadership at the moment, people can use this time to their advantage and make the country as fair and prosperous as possible for their people.
Prior to the classroom lesson we had on Syria, I feel like my understanding of the situation was quite superficial. I had heard about the ongoing wars and bombings, but I didn't fully understand what was happening. I have seen media coverage about the conflicts and wars, but like the Israel/Palestine war, I felt that a lot of it was misleading and biased information as news reports are mostly just one person's opinion about an event rather than an actual reliable source.
After the lesson and after reading some other comments, I am optimistic that with a new leader like al-Sharaa, Syrians can finally reach peace and begin to rebuild the country. I hope that Syrians can have a second chance at life and not have to worry if they will make it through another night. The lesson has made me realise how fortunate I am to have a stable home and a family, and that I live in a country that doesn't have to face war and conflict for many decades.
I am concerned for Syria because in a time like this there are so many things going on in the world. I don't think this is a situation that the United Nations could handle right now. Syria has also gone through so much In the past regarding Assad's regime. Without the concern I am cheering on Syria, in hope for a better country and to rebuild their democracy.
I feel very bad for Syrian people, but I think this their right time make their war land into a beautiful country by forming a new government. If ahmed-al-sharra becomes the president, I think it will be nondictator rule as he fought against dictatorship. It's also with the hands of other countries. If they help Syria economically, then it would be easy for syria to form a government that they dream of.
What is happening in Syria is the most horrible and forgotten crises.
After a long time the people of the country are suffering and paying the high price.
Millions of people have been desplaced, humanitarian health-care is insuficient and economic is in ruins.
What I find imppresive is how Syria has been pushed into the background ,becoming less and less important and there are not answers for the poblation.
I think it is time to put Syria in the center and demand answers for evoryone of those people.
When I came to about the conditions of the people of Syria I was feeling very concerned and devastating at the same time. It was heart breaking to know that people are unable to find their own leader. Also it was a great turning point . The war was being continued for about 15 years which stopped but still it is grief for the common people
My opinion on the matter is that this is a big turning point for Syria as there is a new government being made and after 50 years, the citizens finally get to make decisions about the government. But at the same time, this is also concerning. The reason why this could be concerning is because now that there is a new government, they have to rebuild everything from all of the wars that they were in, they have to decide on the brand new head if state for the country, and finally, the citizens don't even know the intentions of the new people running the country. So with all this being said, my opinion on the matter is that this is a big turning point for Syria as there is a new government being made and after 50 years, the citizens get to make their opinions and decisions about the government, but at the same time, all of this can be concerning at the same time for the Syrian citizens.
I feel both hopeful and worried. Hopeful because, after so many years of war, Syrians finally have a chance for peace and a new beginning. It’s great that now they can choose their own future, the only problem is that they can decide if they want religion to play a big part on the government or just be a private matter in people’s home (I personally think it should be private because religion is not as important as it used to be in the past). But I’m also worried because rebuilding a country is very hard. As I said before, people have different ideas about how the government should work, and they might not agree. Still, I admire Syrian people for their strength over these long years of conflict and I hope they can build a better and safer life now.
I’m really concerned because what’s happening in Syria is really important because it’s not fair that the ASSAD family get to be in charge and ruler of a country should be: fair , understanding and kind.
I don't think Syrians should feel sorry for themselves anymore, they've got a golden opportunity right infront of them! The assads have abondoned Syria, which i see as a chance of a lifetime; the huge relief that has washed over Syria is a sign that something much better is to come. So, i'm hopeful that the syrians would use this chance for their benefit and rebuild all the destruction. i hope all the ones who lost their loved ones and homes, get to fulfill their loss.
After years of destruction, what do you think are the biggest challenges Syrians would face in rebuilding their country, and how might those challenges affect their future?
I feel concerned for the people in Syria most especially those whom lost their loved ones. I also hope that the people of Syria should have a starting point for their country and those refugees whom ran away from their country during the war I would say they all did the wrong thing they should have stayed being to fight the war with their country.
I hope that the country of Syria finds a good leader and a better starting point.
What factors do you think would make someone choose to flee their country during a war instead of staying to fight?
one factor that would make someone flee his or her country is security they would leave the country so as to gain safety in another country and protect their lifes.
I agree because their security might be quite strong and demanding.

I am very concerned about what is happening in Syria. If I put myself in the shoes of the people who are experiencing that situation, I don't think I could even handle it.
What worries me the most is the children who are suffering this war. In class, we watched a video that showed the life of a girl who at first, had a normal life: she celebrated her birthday with her family, her cake and her gifts. However, as the war started, everything began to get worse. She lost her parents and she had to take care of a small child, as if he were her little brother, although he wasn't.
Children in Syria haven't only lost their homes and families, but also the safety and the possibility of a peaceful childhood. Syrian children are suffering in a way that very few people will imagine. I'm sure that when they grow up they will carry a huge deep trauma from everything they have experienced.
The situation in Syria from my point of view is lamentable. So many years of war with millions of people losing their families, homes, jobs, ALL their lives.
I feel angry and worried every time I think about the years of war in that country.
Personally, I hope I never have to flee my country due to a war. I can not imagine how hard it must be lost part of your family and friends, lost your home and see your country being destroyed.
Since the Assad family has leave the leadership, I think that it is the opportunity to build a new country with freedom and human rights for all citizens.
Me as a Syrian in the UK I've had some ups and downs for the past few years about the political situation in my country. After we toppled Al Assad I feel hopeful for Syria , we are able to build a new Syria as well when Bashar-Al-Assad (war criminal or president) kept bombing us we lost hope , we thought to ourselves that he was the one in power, he had controlled most of Syria which meant overall that he won the war and Did you know he and his army damaged all the buildings and that was worth 250 billion dollars and the Syrian GDP per capita 8.97 billion US dollars. Imagine how low that is Syria would not thrive without international support we have to to start all again from 0. As well if the Assad regime stayed here I wouldn't be allowed to visit my home country since my family were against the horrible regime. And my hopefulness peaked when Syria had been appointed a new president Ahmed-Al-Sharaa some might think that he got into power straight away but no Syria had no proper government for over a month and on the 29th of January 2025 he has been appointed as the official ruler of Syria on the other hand if I want to go back I'll have to wait, since he has been about 4-5 days in power so there is something to wait for but in my opinion it will be a massive hopeful spark to the Syrian people. Genuinely I dislike war and I didn't want this to happen in the first place because all o four houses have been destroyed and numerous have been killed but on the other hand we got what we wanted but with war it could have been negotiated with peace. Thank you.
I feel bad for them and concerned too because according to what heard, the syrian country is really suffering, over 16 million people need help because of hunger and poverty many schools and houses have been destroyed due to the war
I feel concerned about Syria 🇸🇾 as there was a war that lasted 20 years and all the ditruction
needs urgent 🚨 help . I also feel hopeful as it is a new 🆕 beginning which hopefully 🤞 can help us to rebuild peace ✌️ in Syria 🇸🇾. Comment please 🙏
Yes I am deeply concerned about Syria but I am also hopeful for them to have a brand new start to the world and to prove that there was war for no reason as sometimes people can make mistakes and so can the countries I also genuinely hope that Syria will learn from their mistakes and live a peaceful life As anyways around Syria has had a harsh life and I hope that Syria carries on with their life like the normal times
I am hopeful that this could be a major turning point for the country of Syria and the Syrian people. However, I understand why some people may have some concerns to this as the country was out of control before and it could eventually lead to chaos again. I strongly believe this could benefit the people of Syria and stop the suffering from the past and prevent it from occurring again. This is a crucial opportunity and I pray that the government of Syria makes a change for the country and citizens for the better. The people of Syria should stay strong and support each other and remain positive and hope for best.
I am concerned because there isn't a real president in Syria, so I think an election should be held immediately. Also a large amount of buildings have been destroyed from the 12 years civil war . Food are also in short supply so people have barely any food to eat.
I think they will need to have an election straight away because no body knows what he is like because he could be a bad person. Also there has been a civil war for 12 years so I think the should have a election straight away.
I totally agree with what you are saying respectful_orange - although, I have an idea of what they could do instead.
I think that they should keep the leader they have right now for a year to get the country back on its feet and then hold an election for a new leader. This way the candidates will have enough time to gather up ‘ideas’ if you like to rule the country, therefore making them a better leader and get the support Syria needs to make the country good again .
I feel concerned about Syria because after 12 years at war ( which in this case they will be relieved ) a new leader has come in, but the citizens might dislike this idea because he might not make orders that satisfy them. In this case, I think they should hold a election because it's fair and they might think someone else should in charge. However, the refugees can settle back and Syria is freed from the Assad family.
I feel concerned about what is happening in Syria because people in Syria are worried about their next leader and what he may do to religions. Despite what their last leader did, some are hopeful and not concerned.
I feel deeply concerned and angry for Syria from now because the leader of the Assad regime fled to Russia seeking for asylum but other followers might still be in Syria so they could start another civil war. I am angry that Syria has not yet learned that an immediate election should take place so that the leaders of Syria are made by vote so that it is fair who the people pay taxes to. The countries of the world will never learn their lesson to not start wars because there is no reason that should be acceptable to start war or even civil war. I am deeply sorrowful for the people who suffer because of the civil war in Syria, I think they should not have to suffer.
I fell very concerned for Syria as of right now they are suffering from food shortage but i also feel mad because yet after doing war after war, what have we learned?NOTHING. So im mad because war does nothing except show that the leader of that country is greedy and shouldt be a leader if all they want is just more money from taxes, they go to war for more land to get more people so they can get more money from taxes
My felling of what happen in syria is noting i can really imargin in my life. since i was born, i have never seen a country that was ruled for over 50 years by a particular family. so i support the president that set war against the family that was ruling the country of syria by fighting him and brought freedom to the country of syria.
I think that the war has had a huge impact on people and places in Syria. I think that people in Syria should focus on starting to rebuild some of the important infrastructure eg.hospitals, schools, homes etc etc. this will mean that people that are ill don’t have to travel to get treatment and that children can get an education.
I feel so sad that such a beautiful country is in wrecks . :(
I think that a 99 % of Syrians are homeless.
It is very sad that a lovely country is being is destroyed by the wars that have been in Syria . I thing that Syria should change
Why do bad things always happen to good people ?!
Its SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO sad I will eat a WHOLE jar of expired olives
DO IT!
I feel actually feel mad about what's happening in Syria because all this war and what's happening?Nothing, the only thing your actually doing is destroying your own country as it is a civil war.And its all about the leader of Syria.I mean personally why did the rebel group just try host an election,i mean it is expensive but its better then having a whole civil war im i right. So in opinion i do feel bad about the refugees and that but mad and concerned because we have so many wars on Earth and we learn nothing while in the war.So im very concerned about whats going to happe in the future of planet Earth.
I agree because there is no point in doing so much for this instead of doing a simple election they should simply do an election so no one gets hurt nor suffers from hunger and starvation. And yes I also agree that war gains nothing but loss in the end because, people die, suffer, starve all because of one lousy war. Because two places cannot make an agreement, but they'd rather see their own people suffering less then the other side is or equally they should hear what the people think about this war.
I feel Unhappy about what is happening in Syria for about 50 years which feel painful. The Assad family is not a good rulers for Syria. their form of government is not acceptable for the country Syria. In order to prevent this Syrian government have to make a good choice to make Syria better and good.
I feel very terrible at what is happening during these times in Syria while they are currently in war they shouldn't be at war and they should be at peace with all countries. But sadly they are currently not, I hope this war ends soon because people in Syria are suffering from hunger because they have less food than they did. I pray that they are safe and that no one becomes deceased during the time of this current war.
Personally, I feel quite concerned that our world cannot have peace and always have to be at war because one person wants to be leader of a country but that country refuses.Whats the point when that country already has a leader. The person who wants to take over is responsible of the deaths of many people. And for as long as we know that humans have lived, their has always been war, some because of different religion and some because of people wanting to be leaders but that is no excuse for letting hundreds and thousands of people die. This is not fair for Syria because they had a bad leader that let them down. Syria should be ruled by a kind, respectful and patient man that will help Syria build Syria once more and make it a better and more safe place to live.
I don't think that I am the only person who is really concerned because there are a lot of problems that extend in Syria for so many years. There are people worried all over the world, there is war going on, a lot of people suffer, and other countries also become a part in the fight.
People care about Syria because of the war, basically. The war started in 2011, where so many Syrians started losing their homes. Some families went out of their country to live in other safer countries like Turkey. Others stayed inside, but even they did not have enough quantities of food, water, medicine, electricity and others. Even most of the children could not go to school thanks to danger.
Terrorism is another thing people are concerned about. Groups like ISIS caused a lot of trouble in Syria. Even though they lost power, they are still dangerous to people. There are a lot of countries which take part in this war, including the United States, Russia, and Turkey. Here comes the concern because it is going to lead further to more fights and even bigger problems in the world.
To conclude, Syria is a needy place described by words such as war, suffering people, and threats of terrorism. It is just being prayed that Syria would be safe one day, and families could stay together fearlessly.
i feel saddend about what has been happenning to the syrian citezens because they didnt really do any thing wrong because there leader was corrupt but now he could go back and take his land because he is a important person in russia and since russia are really big and have support by china right now they can do a lot.
i feel so happy for Syria because after years of torment they're finally free from the Asaad family and a new beginning is avalible for them i hope they have many happy years to come
The situation in Syria brings a mix of emotions; hope, concern and uncertainty. On one hand, the end of over 50 years of Assad family rule marks a historic change and many Syrians see this as a chance for a fresh start . The possibility of rebuilding the country, improving human rights and creating a more inclusive government is encouraging.
However, there are also reasons for concern. Power transitions after long periods of authoritarian rule can be unstable and questions remain about whether the new leadership will truly bring lasting peace, democracy and economic recovery. There's also the challenge of uniting different factions and ensuring that past conflicts don't resurface.
Overall, while there is hope for a better future, much depends on how much the new government handles this transition and whether it prioritizes the well-being of all Syrians.
In my opinion the situation in Syria is an opportunity for a new chapter after the devastating 13 year long war and famines while it was ruled by al-Assad'd regime. I think it was only a matter of time before groups and rebels started to stand up for themselves and have the right to freedom and democracy. However i think that people should be aware as nobody truly knows their ideas and plans for the future of the country. I hope that they choose to rebuild and help those that have starved for years and became homeless. It is terrible that most Syrians felt in danger and unsafe in a place they call home so hopefully they can take this chance to pick up the broken peices of their lives and feel safe again.
I found and discover about what is happening in Syria and I feel unhappy about it. Syria is a good country if I am to say this people are suffering so much about it and they need help.
I feel immense sorrow for those who live in Syria. The dictatorship they were under was unacceptable and the innocent lives that were lost were absolutely unjustifiable. Thankfully, the Assad Regime has gone and the people of Syria have a chance to, slowly but surely, rebuild their land and create a place that is safe to call home. The people who are to lead the country must learn from the previous president’s mistakes and not repeat the gruesome history. Furthermore, I feel quite hopeful that the new regime will flourish in to an erudite democracy where there will be little suffering and more opportunities for people to live their lives as normal as you would expect people to, who have witnessed a substantial amount of life altering trauma. Though I have high hopes for the upcoming events, doubtlessly, there will be many challenges ahead that must be overcome calm and collectively to ensure smooth sailing for all plans to go according to intention, or else, everything will collapse and the upcoming regime will cripple like the rubbled remains of houses in the in the city of Aleppo where the lives of 31,000 were mercilessly taken during the civil war conflict. Though it will take many restless nights and persistent hard work, I truly believe that with necessary aid from other countries, Syria will return to being a prosperous land of freedom and opportunity that it so diligently was. Overall, I believe we should be optimistic and faithful: Syria now has the opportunity to regain strength, stability and become a better place, free from the horrors that once held it captive.
Passionately argued. Well done!
I feel an immense amount of sorrow and grief after finding out what the people of Syria and the refugees have been though. It truly brings me pain that many of them have lost their homes after they have been destroyed and even had to flee the country, nobody should have to live through such a hard and heartbreaking experience. Living through a war is something I wouldn't wish on anybody and I feel most sorry for those who have lost their loved ones and have barely anything to eat. However, I am happy that because of this new turning point they will be able to live happier lives with freedom and democracy. I hope they can forget about their tragic and painful pasts and think about their bright futures ahead of them. My best wishes go out to Syria.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and compassion for those suffering in Syria.
"I agree with you. To build a well-organized state for the people of Syria, it is necessary to end the war and conflicts to achieve an independent nation. Additionally, it is crucial to provide assistance to those affected by Syrian war and take various necessary steps. Through the implementation of different measures or strategies, the people of Syria can achieve a prosperous and well-organized state. To established
That would be a monumental shift in Syria's history. If rebel groups took over the Assad family rule, it would mark the end of an era defined by authoritarian government. It is understandable if many Syrians celebrate, because a new government could offer hope for a fresh start.
However, skepticism is completely valid because Syrian rebel groups are diverse, with differing ideologies and such. The key question is how competent the new government is, and whether or not they already have a clear plan on how to improve the country.
Ultimately, the Syrian people can only hope that the change in leadership will bring more progress than turmoil into the country, paving the way for a stable, inclusive government.
In my point of view, I am on the fence between two feelings that I feel towards what is happening in Syria. I firstly feel concerned about what is happening to the innocent syrian people as they have been suffering from oppression for a long time, in addition, it is very hard to find cheap, good food there as the prices and costs of living are extremely expensive, which isn't fair as it is nearly impossible to purchase things like a house or a car there. I think that the new government should try to work on facilitating the daily lives of syrians. I also feel nervous of what the new government would offer the syrian people in terms of justice, safety and stability. I personally think that every human being should have access to these three conditions, as they have major significance in everybody's life. Furthermore, I think that the syrian people are the most ones who deserve these life conditions, since they haven't experienced them with the previous president , so it is finally time for them to retrieve their rights as global citizens.
What's happening in Syria is very concerning.
Certainly, the overthrow of the family is a great thing for the inhabitants, but now, they need to organise themselves for a new government, which is not a simple task.
I am feeling very sorry for country Syria. Even though country Syria is independent country . Country Syria has approximately 3 or 4 constitution still Syria is struggling with political freedom.
From 1963 to 2024 the country Syria was ruled by Assad Family in 2024 the country Syria started procession. Hence Assad Family ran away from country Syria. Still country Rasia is helping Assad Family.
Lot of people of Syria has migrated to other country for free life style. The people of Syria is facing lot of difficulties in day to day life. There is shortage of food , no hospital and school because it has being have destroyed because of civil wars. I am feeling very sad for people who have lose there love ones.
I think if people will get united then no one can attack on them. The should now stop civil war and focus on building the hostitals , school ect. People of Syria must focus on agriculture so there circumstances get better.
I agree because this is the truth, if people in Syria get united nobody could attack. As all the hospital and school were destroyed, they should focus on building new school and hospital. I think thye should also focus on agriculture, which could help them to be stable and could also help them in economical way.
I feel hopeful for Syria because this is their chance to create a better future. After years of conflict, Assad's regime is finally coming to an end, and people are no longer under a dictatorship. I can't imagine how challenging it must have been to live in constant fear, unable to express themelves freely. It's dishearting that even today, some countries still endure oppression. But now the people of Syria have the chance to rebuild their lives without fear.
I am personally very angry about the people of Syria, because after staying in the control for 40 years and fighting for their freedom for 12 years they haven't learnt anything. War is a very terrible thing in this technologycal century. Still the people of Syria have again chose their president without any elections. They are just repeating the same mistake again and again.
I also feel sorry for those people because some of them lost their loved ones; their basic needs like school, hospital, were destroyed in the war. People were not able to get enough food and water for their families.
I am also pity them because, if they sleep in the night they were not knowing if they will wake up tomorrow or not, wether it is the last hug with their mother or not.
Syria and people of Syria have suffered a lot and I am sorry for them and also I pity them, but I Still think that they should have learnt something from this suffering.
😡😟😥
🇸🇾🇸🇾🇸🇾
I am legitimately concerned about Syria. The conflict that began in 2011 turned in to a devastating war. The war has led to 5,00,000+ deaths and over 13 million people are displaced. The economy has collapsed, with poverty, food shortages, and sanctions worsening the crisis. However, now Assad regime is finished, so Syria has a one last chance to rebuild itself and make itself a democratic country where equality matters the most. If a new democratic government is formed, it should repair the destructions and garner some support to the people effected. At last, I would say Syria can become a prosperous country if managed well. We all hope for the best.
I am extremely sad for Syria. It doesn't have enough things or resources for their citizens. They also do not have a lot of food and water to ear and drink and they do not have a lot of buildings or houses for them to live in, so some countries should help Syria in their needs because they are so good country and polite country .
THANK YOU!
I feel really sad about what’s happening in Syria. The country has been through so much, and so many people have suffered. After years of war and destruction, it’s hard to imagine how things can get better. People are scared and many have had to leave their homes to find safety. I understand why some are hopeful that with the Assad family gone, things might finally change for the better. It’s like when a storm clears, and you think the sun might come out. But I also worry because it’s hard to know if the new leaders will do the right thing. I think Syria still has a long road ahead, and it’s going to take time to rebuild. But I really hope that one day, children can go back to school, families can live safely, and people won’t have to be afraid anymore. The road to peace might be tough, but it’s worth trying to help Syria find it. Do you think Syria will be able to rebuild and find peace again?
I am deeply concerned with what is happening at the moment but a bit inside of me is hopeful for the future. It’s concerning that some refugees have been lost and are hiding in unknown places this is decreasing the population in Syria. Also some Syrian refugees need lots of help at the moment probably suffering from starvation and thirst. Additionally, I’m hopeful as the Assad regime is gone and there is time to fix Syria. Also adding on to what lots of people said is that in the end whats the point of war if so much damage and disruption is happening it’s making everyone and everything worse. So we need to stop, think, improve and help each other to make the world a better place including Syria.
