Helping countries stop migration

This post was written by a student. It has not been fact checked or edited.

Migration happens when people leave their home country to live in another country. This can be due to conflicts in their home or for safety concerns or because of the poor living conditions in that country. Some people leave legally after getting the required visa or work permits and others go there illegally taking a dangerous route through smugglers.

Some people feel that immigration is ok both legal and illegal migration because of the need of the migrants to protect themselves when there is a conflict in their homes by moving to a safe country. Others feel that immigrants are causing economic hardship in their countries and some attribute crimes to migrants.

I feel that migrants although they bring diversity to their host countries they may cause problems like the housing problems being faced in Canada. The health system of the host countries may be overstretched too. The home countries of migrants loose a lot of local talent who leave due to the tough economic conditions of their countries

I think that the immigration problem can be solved when the rich countries help the poorer countries develop more and help them to stop conflicts. The rich countries investing in the poorer countries can create jobs for the people there and the rich countries will gain profits from their investments. In my country we have foreign multinational companies and our government is always inviting countries to invest in the country. Conflicts make multinationals leave countries so the rich countries have a role to play in reducing conflicts in such countries. The rich countries are already doing a lot under the United Nations peace keeping forces but the conflicts keeps cropping up here and there. Everywhere there is conflict there is a lot of immigrants. The rich countries should refuse to sell weapons and any raw materials that can be used to make weapons to countries at war totally, that is if two countries are having a conflict both countries should not be sold weapons. That way they will not have weapons to keep fighting and the conflict will end. This will help end migration.

Finally countries whose economies have stabilized can actively provide opportunities to their citizens to grow economically they should pay workers better, provide better health care and good basic infrastructure so that their citizens will not want to leave to go to the richer countries.

  • People who migrate is often those who wanted to escape what is happening in their countries. Things such as war, or the people think there might be a war going on in their home countries later and people wanting better education for their children. Some people decided to risk their lives and try and immigrate illegally. Maybe because it was quite hard to get a visa and they may not have as much time so they might make the decision to risk their lives and pay a lot of money to get onto a small boat and cross the English Channel if they are aiming to live in the UK. It might be quite hard for the guards to spot them because the UK has a massive coast line as it is an island.
After doing some research, 108,000 people entered the UK legally during June 2022. The number of people who had entered the UK illegally had risen from 13,000 in 2018 to more than 35,000 in 2021. Although most of the people immigrate legally into the UK, 35,000 is still a lot of people.
I think that housing is a really major problem because there are too much immigrants coming into that particular country and there would not be enough houses for the immigrants to live in.
I think immigration might not be easily solved because when you said that rich countries can help the poor countries, that might not be possible as most rich countries are quite populated. In addition, the rich countries need the money to keep their citizens satisfied. If that thing was to happen, where would the countries get the money from?

    1. Hello 🤗
I agree with you on one point and disagree with you on other points. I agree with you that war is one of many other reasons that leads immigrants to immigrate to other countries. There are many countries in which there are no wars, and their citizens seek to immigrate in one way or another, and from my point of view after research and review. As for the age group that is always looking for immigration, we find that it is the youth group, believing that other countries to which they immigrate will give them much of what they wish for, such as money, and not only that, but some of them are looking for marriage to foreign women so that they can obtain citizenship and benefit from the benefits of this nationality, but I disagree with you. Also, you said that rich countries must give money to poor countries, and this is not true at all, because it is a duty for the presidents of poor countries and its citizens work to raise the economic level of their country. Instead of young people resorting to emigrating to other countries, their country must provide them with job opportunities, so industry, trade, and agriculture increase, and this is what creates economic prosperity, but poor countries are not supposed to not work on themselves and only want to take money from countries. There is no gain without thought, effort, effort, and struggle on the part of officials and citizens together
      Thanks

      1. Hello beloved_dolphin.
Thank you for replying to my comment. I was just agreeing with gentle_dragonfruit's point but saying that it might not be really possible for rich countries to give money to poor countries because the rich countries have to have some money to keep people who live in that country satisfied. I also said that if the rich countries were to give money to the poor countries, where would the rich countries get their money from?

  • You make a good point. If there are rich and powerful countries that can assist other countries, it would be beneficial for them to do so. Most poor countries need assistance and many people leave their countries due to lack of security, job opportunities or healthcare. If rich countries can provide help to these poor countries in terms of security and other amenities, these countries can also develop. This will reduce the level of immigration and people will want to stay in their own country. It is a win-win situation because the poor country will develop and the rich country can maintain their status by helping another country

    1. Hello ambitious panther;
I think your comment is correct but there are some mistakes. How do you think immigration will stop if the world's rich countries help poor countries? If the rich countries of the world help the poor countries, then maybe the poor countries will be developed and livable. But people from that country will definitely go to other countries only for the big value of money. In most of the poor countries of the world, the value of money is much lower than the value of money in rich countries. As a result, anyone from rich countries can earn a lot of money with little effort. Suppose you live in a poor country and it is very difficult to earn money in that country. Now a rich country helped to develop your country. As a result all unemployed people like you can easily earn a living by doing jobs or trading. Now suppose you work 16 hours a day. You can earn maybe 30 to 40 thousand taka per month by working these 16 hours. But if you do this work in a foreign country and you are paid 30 to 40 thousand dollars there, then of course the value of that money will be higher in your country. By doing this you can earn 3-4 lakh rupees per month. Now which one do you choose? 30-40 thousand taka for 16 hours work or 3-4 lakh taka for 16 hours work. You'll definitely want to choose the latter. Also you said rich countries should help poor countries. But, how could you say this? If rich countries help poor countries then workers will not move from poor countries to rich countries. Rich countries will not want to help poor countries. Hope you understood my comment. What is your opinion with my comment? Reply as soon as possible.
      Thanks.

  • You have raised an interesting point. If a country has everything its citizens need, they would not want to migrate elsewhere. For instance if the country pays its work as well, providing high salaries that cover all their expenses, people would not look for jobs in other countries. This will reduce the level of immigration. Additionally the wealthier country can invest in poorer countries by creating more job opportunities with the same pay they offer their citizens. This would give the people in poor countries a reason to stay and thus reduce the number of people who want to leave. So I believe that if countries work together to support each other it will have to reduce immigration rate. Though people may still leave their countries but they will do so at a minimum rate. This will not affect the economy of the Host country and immigrants will have something to benefit from In their own country

    1. I agree with you polite_king, this is because, like you said if countries have everything the citizens need they would not need to migrate to a new one. So i believe that countries should try to improve themselves instead of trying to stop immigration because citizens are leaving because the country is not providing.

  • I agree with you that having too many immigrants in a country can sometimes affect its economy leading to overpopulation and a lack of job opportunities. When there are too many people, jobs become scarce and finding a place to live becomes difficult. This can lead to rise in the prices of everything. So I believe it is better to find a long-term solution in their own countries so they can live comfortably without having to leave. By doing this both countries can maintain a stable lifestyle

    1. I'm not sure about this precious_swan because we do not know what they are migrating for it can be anything. Take for instance you are an immigrant migrating because of war and you go to a country that takes part in world affairs and also has to many immigrants if they send you back to your country after using your money and spend a lot of time to go to that country they turned you back? What will you do? How will you feel?
Anyways people go to other countries for many reasons and if we turn them back they will feel unwanted. I think we should not turn them back but allow them into our countries so that they will feel wanted and safe. When the populations start increasing they can take transport them to another safe country.
What I'm trying to say is that we should not reject then but embrace them.

  • I concur with you. Instead of creating divisive immigration laws, richer and more advanced countries should source for the reason why immigrants are coming to their country, and combat against it. For example, the asylum seekers have come because they want to take refuge in the UK. The Uk can allocate the money for relocation to to the military forces of the country of the assylum seekers.
Helping the countries of your refugees will only increase the relationship between you and the country of your refugee. I beleive that intervention is solving the problem is the actual way of stoping these divisive laws.

    THANK-YOU.

  • You have a good point but I think that immigration happens because people are forced to most of the times.
We live in an era of cultural openness and diversity so it would be the total opposite direction to stop it.
It would mean that we would have to live only on our country no matter what.
I understand having frontiers and legislations but our world does not need too many strict restrictions.
A lot of money is spend in tackling immigration in some countries but wouldn't it be better to try and harmonize immigrants to the host country?

  • You have made a very good viewpoint. I also do believe that it is the duty and responsibility of all the rich and poor countries to stop the migration as it can have negative impacts in any country. If the poor countries are able to provide a stable live for its citizen, then this problem can be solved in a great scale. But it is not a piece of cake to ensure the stable conditions of all the citizen. For this it requires support from other countries. Again, in many cases the rich country took the talented people from the poor country and use them in the advancement of their country by giving them a good salary. It is one of the reasons for not developing the economy of poor country as all the talented people choose to leave the country. So, the rich countries need to focus on making their people skilled and talented rather than snatching away the gems of another country. If the rich countries help the poor countries, then this problem can easily be solved.

  • While I do agree that other countries should try to help eliminate conflicts, their efforts may not prevail and the conflict could continue. Additionally, if the countries trying to help stop the conflict have conflict with the countries involved it could put those countries at risk, causing more migration due to unstable national safety which defeats the purpose of attempting to rid of the conflict in the first place. If one wanted to stop migration through ensuring national and government safety it would be very difficult as countries have various issues, conflicts, etc. Considering this it may be best to find another method of attempting to stop migration.

  • People think this idea in hurry. They don’t think about the people for whom is very important to leave that place ,to leave that country and go and live another place. The people need time to adjust themselves in the new place and again the people think that is it wrong and countries should stop migration.
People might have migrated due to some urgent issues only, but the people does not think about that. They only give their views and never see what’s the reason behind it.
Why migration is also important, and why it should not be stopped? This is crucial a question. People just simply say that it should be stopped and does not explain it’ Why’ . Migration in some places is very important to get more opportunities , chance and socialising with other peoples.
But sometimes it is important to stay in that place. Only if you are in some problem, one should not run from the problem, but should solve it . Then only changes will come inside us and we will become strong.
I’m not arguing to the people that do not want mitigation, because some persons from all of them have their own reasons behind it. I think they want that the people are migrating should do something for their country before they do something for other country.
In that case, I would agree to this point, because we should always do something for our country, because country always do something else and give us so many rights loss, which makes us equal to others and spread justice . For every country should have people with different qualities skills and healthy mind, so that they can develop something and do great in their life……..
