However, apart from the positive impacts, is there any negative legacy that you can think of after the event? For example, how shall people utilise the new build stadiums and hotels?
The legacy of the world cup happening Quatar is that many people have sacrificed their lives due to this event. We should really think about the people who are working in inhumane conditions and not just the fact that we are going to have a wonderful time enjoying our team play. Although I love watching the world cup, ( I support England ) I think it shouldn't even happen as people could loose their live to the cost of our pleasure. I agree because people shouldn’t lose their lives just because of a set of football matches that only last for 28 days. Also a lot of pollution must have been created in building all of the new buildings, and the temperature in Quatar is extremely hot. Hi @Rowan. This is a very good question. I would like to voice my opinion on this. I think there should be repercussions for Qatar because these are serious issues.
The issue of the mistreatment of migrant workers is an abuse of the basic human rights of people and if even the workers in Qatar are being treated unfairly then I really wonder how much more visitors from all over the world coming to watch the world cup. As this is a very big global event, the safety of spectators from over the world should be of utmost priority and the matter should not be taken lightly. In my honest opinion, this matter should not be overlooked although I do not feel the opportunity to host the event should be taken away from them because Qatar hosting the world cup not only affects them it affects other Arab nations too as it helps to improve their representation in big events globally but at least there should at least be some repercussions for their actions. They should either be fined or given any other form of deterrent. This should ensure justice for the workers that have been mistreated and will discourage Qatar from doing something of that sort again.
The issue of LGBTQ+ is a serious issue. In my honest opinion, Qatar should not let biased views cloud its judgment. The major aim of the event is to watch the World cup and that should be the main focus. This is a global event so Qatar should have expected that of course lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgender, queers, and others would be attending. I completely agree that there should be some sort of fine etc as this reflect incredibly badly on FIFA and overshadows the joy of the world cup and people of different nations coming together. It is also a violation of human rights and promotes such a bad image.
As for your view on LGBTQ+ I also completely agree. Although I understand and respect that people can have differing opinions on the matter, being LGBTQ+ is not a choice and as such people from the community should feel welcomed at any event, let alone one as big as the world cup. I think the world cup is an event for everyone and as such we should celebrate all people in the world, no matter their gender, ethnicity, sexuality, age etc.
All countries world can organize and host the world cup under certain conditions. The director general of the events doesen't apply it, he exploit the workers, (the workers have very small houses, they work in the heat without security protection and they are badly paid), he restrict certain freedom like how to dressand like sexuality... and there are suspicions of corruption foe the qatar elction. For me with such actions Qatar should not host and organize the World Cup.

The fifa world cup happend 12 years ago in Qatar whith lost of improvements to the country!
It was kind of unfair when the fifa world cup came out because people who built the luxurious hotel for people who wanted to watch the football match get treated badly and stay in poor hotels. Also it's unfair that people have to pay hundreds of billions of pounds just to see a football match.

Economic, touristic, social, environmental and cultural etc. are just a few of the legacies that have left their mark. Such major sporting events can benefit host countries as they can have world-class sports facilities and improved infrastructure. Also, thanks to these major sporting events, the host countries can become more rich in terms of tourism. Major sporting events can help encourage people, youth and children to participate in sports. It can provide an opportunity for host countries to show themselves internationally. It can also accelerate the needed urban transformation and improve society. These are just some of the legacies I've described, and I'm sure there are many more.

2.The current political crisis has witnessed, or at least raised the possibility of, the emergence of a Qatari opposition movement.
3.This means that there is an increased risk for parties working according to contracts or seeking to conclude contracts to develop the infrastructure for the 2022 World Cup. ...
4. There is a risk of non-fulfillment of financial dues and the lack of a realistic ability to implement the terms of any legal contracts.

Big events, like anything in the world has benefits, but also major drawbacks.
Outside of the World Cup, the Olympic games is the most prestigious sporting event globally and is similar in the bidding process. The Olympics has done phenomenal things for cities such as London in terms of tourism, but also at huge costs. In 2012, thousands of people were relocated from their homes in order to build venues to host the major event. Alongside this, crime rates rocketed, and litter became a big issue. London was placed under major pressure and ultimately the event proved amazing for visitors but devastating for locals. Although due to the bidding cost and extortionate prices of construction, the host country often loses money, the games leave a legacy. A legacy that is remembered. A long-term attraction to the place due to the memories and experiences attached. Therefore, there's a definite and powerful legacy, but likely at the cost of those with residency in the host city.
I'm not sure about this because you can't say the same about other big events like even the ongoing world cup. I think the fault was from the planning committee of the Olympics because in the bid that was submitted to host such events was the ability to accommodate large number of tourists and structural facilities that will be used to host such an event. It's so sad that instead of London gaining, they lost due to improper planning. a country like Qatar hosting this ongoing world cup has had a major boost in their economy because of things like tourism, aviation costs because they estimated a total number of 1,300 daily flights in and out of Qatar and this will give a major boost to the economy. If you look at the map, Qatar is located in the Middle East, west of the continent of Asia, on the Arabian Peninsula, meaning that the temperatures are moderate from November through May during the events of the World Cup.

I personally think that the legacy that this world cup is going to leave is that this world cup is going to bring the world together. People from all parts of the world are going to be there from all over the continents, either as spectators or as the footballers themselves. From my point of view, I think Qatar shouldn't hold the world cup because while they were building all of the stadiums (which cost 200 billion pounds ) lots of immigrants who were building the stadiums died from poor work conditions. Qatar also known about having banned any support to the LGBTQ+community so if anyone who is supporting the LGBTQ+community could get potentially arrested prosecuted or killed . Qatar's football team also would have gotten automatic participation in the World Cup.
I think that Qatar should not hold the World Cup because they have spent millions of dollars on new stadiums when it is not necessary and Qatar are not really a football into country.

I think it is bad that people died making the stadiums. But Qatar has bad records for human right and how they treat LGTBQ+ so county's like England who normally play with a rainbow strip across the arm can't do that because they might get arrested by Qatar police and wont be able to play because of there laws but we don't have power to change there laws because it is not are county so we can't do anything to it I'm not trying to say we should tell them to change there laws instead just help them.
Players wearing the rainbow armbands would not be arrested, but they were told they could be fined by FIFA for breaking a rule around making a political statement.

I think this is unfair for people in Qatar that are making the stadiums because they are not getting paid that much and that people are dying because of how much money they get. Also, that some people don't want to see the match because of sexism and racism because of their rules.
Can you explain what you mean by racism rules?
I am not too sure because I have just tried searching why but nothing came up. I think that the racism rules would be about why no one should bully anyone because of their race/the colour of their skin. Although, I know that homophobia and sexism have been really common in Qatar during the world cup and that it is really serious.
If any region, like the Arab world, has been kept away from hosting a mega event, then now is the time to share the love with every member of the global village. This is because no one should feel deprived of being recognized as an esteemed member of the global community. Everyone has the right to boast about being a reason for an event. The last time I talked about the positive impacts of this World Cup. Today I'm going to talk of the negatives impacts of this event.
First, the construction of the stadium caused a lot of problems. For example, the enormous pollution of the air with the planes, the tourists, the public transportation.
And this consumes a lot of energy. The reduction of the space dedicated to nature to build the stadiums (concrete, size of the stadiums...). There is the noise pollution too with the differently machines and that disturbs the local community. While speaking of he local community, the qatari builders and immigrants buldiers are working in very
bad conditions. We count more of 6000 dead and this is problematic.
I thought that Qatar will benefits this event because it's economic benefit and from this event Qatar will earn many billions dollars and it will get back the billions dollars that spent in building the stadium.
But from my point of view, I think Qatar it's not the Appropriate country for this event , As an Islamic country, and this event received many negative opinions from several people , they say that Qatar spent many money and instead of that Qatar can help the homeless children and orphans and reduce poverty and famine as long as they have this wealth.

Wealther countries - both Islamic and not Islamic - do spend money on sports, culture, pure scientific research (such as on subatomic particles and outer space) and so on. That money could be used on dealing with - and preventing poverty, famine, pandemics etc.

Football is the most watched sport, and it is a great honor for it to be hosted in an Arabian country for the very first time. I feel that the legacy of big events are the hosts, the fans and the competitors. The hosts of the world cup play a very big role in the playing of the sport. Qatar is a country filled with oil and natural gas and they have invested in it and are the richest in the world. They used their money to build seven stadiums and refurbished one in four years which is a very hectic job. They have built one of the best stadiums in the world. The fans also play a big role in making the competitors perform better. Competitors are encouraged by their supporters to play better. The competitors who are the people representing their countries in the sport are the talents that are being watched. The show their skills and passion for the sport. Also, I feel that this world cup is a very special one because the artist of the theme songs came from three different continents which are America (Trinidad Cardona), Africa (Davido) and Asia (Aisha). This shows racial equality.

I feel that the social legacy of events of the is to support and strengthen global unity. Football is a game of equality where different nations from different continents compete to win the sport. This promotes global unity and brings racial equality. It also encourages and brings opportunity for people to show their talent by representing their countries. The political legacies are the infrastructures built in order for it to hold. The government spent a lot of money and it also created employment opportunities for the people.
In my opinion, hosting big events is really beneficial for example Qatar it is going to benefit in a way that it is strengthening international relations. In a sense that when people from all over the world come and meet for a common reason that is sports they get to interact and become friends, some might even get new international business partners and they develop their businesses to international.

When I have read that Qatar spent nearly 200 billion dollar to host the World Cup competition, I was shocked. And I wondered why do they spent such amount of money on something will happen maybe once in its history. I told myself ,it is more worthy if it spent this money to support the environment sustainability. Then, I told myself that I have to find out the reasons behind spending this big number of money.
Actually, I felt so proud ,as an Arab person , of what l found. The results that I reached forced to respect all what Qatar did to host this global event because this great country thought forward and tried to be sustainable as much as possible. "The architects in charge of building Qatar’s new stadiums pledged to utilise modular elements when designing these structures. This has largely come in the form of stadiums with upper tiers that can be detached at tournament end." Moreover,up to 170,000 seats will be removed from these stadiums and donated to other nations to help develop their sporting infrastructure. Furthermore, The unique 40,000-seater of the 974 stadium’s design incorporated 974 recycled shipping containers in homage to the site’s industrial history, and will be completely dismantled upon the conclusion of the tournament.
The resulting materials will then be reused in other construction projects in other lesser-developed countries.
Those results and others lead me to say that this is the true legacy.
I agree with this event, as Qatar becomes a tourist country after the World Cup takes place in it, and also encourages tourists to come to it, and this event opens up horizons for it, an example of that enables it to host football finals such as the champions league.
I'm amazed as to how big and important the men's world cup is and it is good thing but I really wonder. We have been learning about diversity and representation and its importance on the student hub through the topic Black Panther: Diversity and Representation. I really learnt a lot from it but it got me thinking. Why isn't the women's world cup as popular as "talked about" as the men's world cup?

Qatar should not be able to hold the World Cup as the World Cup is usually held in the summer not winter and they won bids from the US and many more so they bid to get this opportunity. They also won the right to hold it in 2010.

Some countries are simply very hot in summer. If they bid to host the World Cup (or other big events such as the Olympics) how would you suggest that the events be staged in summer?
I believe that Qatar should not be holding the World Cup because they have not really got any experience with football and had to build seven new stadiums for the teams to play on. Usually, we would have the World Cup in Summer but this year, due to the extreme weather conditions; hot and humid and in basically a desert, this huge football competition has been held in Winter.
